5 comments about Baten Kaitos(tm) Official Strategy Guide (Baten Kaitos).
  1. I always buy game guides for role playing since I am the type that likes to get everything in a game.Brady game guides are the most accurate. I have found them to be more so than the Nintendo Guides.Prima being the worst. One of the Nintendo guides I had purchased had so many errors in it that I called the company and had to make many notes in my copy. You will not be disappointed with this guide. It will help you to get everything and do things in the correct order. However the game itself can be played without a guide. I did that until I got my copy. If you speak to all the people in the game, more than once, you can find your way around.

  2. I always have confidence in Brady's guides. I don't even buy Prima guides anymore after the really bad experience with the Legend of Dragoon Guide and the full of spoiler Aidyn of Chronicle Guide. Brady Guides don't usually give out any spoiler and quite comprehensive (well they had a pretty bad spoiler for the Beyond Good and Evil guide, though I still find it very useful apart from that).

The Baten Kaitos guide was a little bit of disappointment though. I am not saying that there are heaps of flaws or whatsoever, it is just that things were not really that well organised.

The guide as all the basic things that you need: what you need to do and all the side quests that you can do. Nonetheless, the arrangement of materials could be greatly improved. The story walkthrough is good, but the side quests are quite disorganised in a way that you would risk losing out things that you need to complete your side quests. One of them being the Museum side quest in Mira. Should the guide mentioned when you first get it to keep it for a much later initiated side quest, I would have kept it instead of throwing it away for other side quests (some of them demand a lot of blank magnus spaces if you want to avoid back tracking). It would be good for Brady's to actually build a side quest section with all the references marked inside the main story walkthrough. Readers could then have a choice of whether they want to do the side quests or keep stuff for the side quests at all.

Also there is a boss battle that Kalas was forced into but the guide didn't mention it. It only said get yourself prepared. But if you prepared the wrong character, you are stuff. They manged to do it for the one where Gibari was forced into the battle, but wonder why the Kalas one was missed out.

The boss stragegies and enemy strategies are good, but just in the text. So just read the text instead of reading the elemental + and - because there are a lot of flaws. Weak to light could be -80 in one enemy but marked as +80 in another. So leaving you wondering what they are trying to do. A think a better consistency check is really needed in this guide.

Also the monster list doesn't tell you what usual or most frequent useful items are dropped by the monsters. With a game that involves collection of a lot of cards, I think this is an essential issue that needs to be addressed. Prices of items in the shops are steep so the best way to build up cards is by defeating monster. However, readers won't have a clue what to fight to get what. I need to make the notes myself. This is disappointing for that part was quite detail in the FF VIII guide by Brady's.

The most useful parts of the guide were the experience point vs level chart and the way the teach you to take photos to earn the most money (the only way to be rich in the game).

In all, if you just want a guide to get through the game quickly, this is a definite choice. If you are a person who wants to do everything, this might not be as promising as other Brady's guides.

  3. so far, baten kaitos is my favorite nintendo game and the guide really helps, it gives you all the details, good boss fighting techniques, and a full list of magnus but there are some flaws in it. like for one, in one part they mess up on were a very powerful magnus is and i also can't find how you get the pendulum blast for gibari, i searched the entire book but no luck. all in alla good guide

  4. Brady usually does a passable job with their guides for RPGs, but this one is an extreme exception. I can understand and forgive the occasional typo, but this guide seems to be littered with them. It's incredibly annoying to look up boss strategy and see "+80%" damage for "dark" attacks, only to execute a big "dark" attack and see "-80%" on the screen. This transposing of positive and negative effects seems to happen on every 4th boss listing.

The guide itself is also poorly laid out, with the columns walk-through text broken with photos and and running roughshod around distracting side quest text bubbles. Whoever was in charge of page layout should probably try harder next time.

In addition, the charts, lists and directories in the rear of the guide, usually some of the most imporant parts are laid out awkwardly. Sometimes broken up in a illogical manner, sometimes page after page of items, with no breaks and not in alphabetical order. Try finding the entry for "Spicy Curry Magnus" when it's not ordered by healing magnus, nor in alphabetical order!

Overall the guide has helped me complete the odd confusing RPG side quest (which I swear are being designed more and more these days to require a 3rd party guide like this, the game publisher must get a cut). However, if I had known before buying how little it would really help and how much it would sometimes even hurt, I would have passed on it.

  5. Thankfully I got this strategy guide from the library, or I would have wasted good money. While the walkthrough is decent the quests are not well organized. A lot of the game is real time dependent and no warning is give. For one quest you need an item that take fifteen real hours to develop yet the book gives you no warning. The worst part is the short cut description of enemy weaknesses. A warning that an enemy is -50% towards light will either mean it is 50% weak toward that element or that elament is only worth fifty percent damage on that enemy. The text description of strengths and weaknesses is much more accurate, but by no means perfect. For one boss one area said it was 100% weak towards dark while just below it said 100% weak towards light. That information is kind of important. Do not waste your money on this book unless your obsessive about miscellanious quests.

  4. This guide is great. Since 2000 I've always wanted to beat this game, and never knew how. Now though It helped me find every mask, and all that other good stuff. It has allowed me to enjoy the game for once. Buy this guide if you are in deep :ahem:, anyway this guide is a must.

  5. I recently purchased this book even though I have had the game for quite a while. I never had really been able to figure out how to get through the game and be satisfied with it. This book really helped me out and let me enjoy the game a little more! I was very frustrated, and being the BIG Zelda fan I am, I couldn't stand letting it sit there and gather dust knowing that I didn't have a 100% file. I would highly recommend this book for this game. It was very complete and easy to understand. It reveals all the secrets and comes with a cool poster if you get a newer book.

  1. Since when did finding Spyro items get easier? More items, more methods, new techniques. Help the little dragon out; don't wander around and have to go back. Follow the guide. Could have a little bit more pics, be a little more descriptive. I did get stuck in one place because directions confused me.

  2. I found the guide very useful during gameplay and even if you don't follow it step-by-step, the maps and list of all the Dragon Eggs and Light Gems help tremendously. Well worth the money if you're having trouble with finding items in the game. Also, it helped me know how to defeat the rock monsters. I got SO stuck there and I figured it out right away from the guide. Very easy to used and I was pleased with the way it was written. Great job, Prima!

  3. There are very few bad things about this guide. The directions are helpful, concise, and make gameplay much easier, but more fun, too. The pictures are small, but they have great detail, so they help more than hinder. Also, the minigames section is REALLY helpful! This is what helped me through most of the game. If you have this game, trust me, YOU NEED THIS STRATEGY GUIDE!!! It's a big help...

  1. I think the book is great with a lot of good info

  2. Is very helpful, but there is a lot missing, and it's hard to find what you're looking for in the book as opposed to the game... The maps are very helpful when you can find the one that applys to the game... I'd like to see an updated version of this book, I would definitely purchase it!!!

  3. This is by far the worst 'strategy guide' I have ever encountered. It was out of date before the game was even released, with much of its information seemingly taken from the game's beta testing. It has at the most 10 pages worth of accurate information, and you'll have to figure out which parts of the book are accurate for yourself.

The rest is either out of date, wrong, or can be EASILY found for free on the internet by anyone with even the slightest bit of competence in using a search engine (if you can't figure out a search engine, I doubt you could even install Guild Wars, so the guide won't help you anyway). Most of the things that aren't out of date are HORRIBLE or TOTALLY INADEQUATE strategies that will cause hours of endless frustration.

You would be much better off just playing the game and figuring things out for yourself than using this guide. Unless you plan on using it to fuel a fire, there is no reason to own this book. Don't waste your money.

  4. This guide is not bad. It has a good general map and pointers to the baddies.. The problem with it is, it is outdated. It also focuses (as it mentions) on Tyria. You'll find a few things "off", but as a general guide, it isn't bad. You're better off looking at Guild Wars Wikis for more up-to-date information.

  5. This has a great book. It gives a good overview of all the missions. There isn't really any more info than you can find on the Wiki site however it is something I can hold in my hand! I like having it in print.

  1. in buma in a house go to the fire place and press

  2. I think this review is ok for getting through the game but there are so many typos and several mistakes. One mistake is on the art list in the back it screwed up one of noa's arts.

  3. There are some item which are not mention in this book(ex: something good, etc). If you have any question about this game you can send me e-mail and write `legaia` as a SUBJECT.

  4. Legend of Legaia is an incredible game. But this guide is not. The only good thing about this guide is the arts list for each character. That's about the only help you'll really get from it.

Compared to other RPG guides, Prima's "Legend of Legaia" guide is shallow. Where are the maps? The comprehensive items lists? The bestiary? The secrets? They're all absent from this guide.

The walkthrough was perhaps the worst part. There's nothing but text and screenshots. Some screens are in the wrong place, and I began to wonder how exactly anyone could get anything from this guide. There were no maps, and they didn't mention the items I could obtain in an area. They mention items on the way to the target, but never anything off the beaten path.

Then there were the boss strategies. They had HP listings for some of them. Other times they either didn't have HP listed or they said something like "He has around 13,000 HP" which in turn doesn't tell me a whole lot. At least some of the strategies were good, but they didn't mention the basic tip you give anyone who goes at Legend of Legaia. You heal almost every turn (even at GameFAQs they mention that in nearly every FAQ).

The guide was also absent of basic enemy information. Where was the bestiary? What could I steal from the enemy? What did the enemy drop? Better yet, WHAT ENEMIES WILL I RUN INTO IN A CERTAIN AREA? The guide doesn't say.

Then there are the appendices in the back. They had a list of seru magic (not very handy, we know what enemies are seru just by looking for a symbol next to them in the game) and an accessories list. The accessories list and whatnot were out of order. There WAS an items list, but again: out of order. They could've at least put it in alphabetical order to make it easier. Secrets items (such as the Chicken Heart, and Chicken King) got little or no mention at all.

The entire guide read like an FAQ... only with screenshots. Seriously, if you want to MASTER Legend of Legaia, this guide isn't the way to do it. If you just want to beat the game without getting anything, the guide isn't even needed. Save your money and go to GameFAQs for help. There people will actually help you master the game and find everything. Oh, and there the people actually HAVE secrets.

  5. This book is a waste of money. It's full of missed items and mistakes. The walthrough provides no help at all. Find better walkthroughs on the internet and save your money!

4 comments about Star Trek Legacy (Prima Official Game Guide).
  1. Where to begin...

About 2/3 of this "Strategy Guide" is a listing of all the ships included in the game and a list of the maps included in the game. Personally - all of this information should have been in the manual. This is not necessary information however because the statistics are much more meaningful in the ship select screen in the game - and the maps are not exactly that unique.

The rest of the guide is a few "tips" which are pretty much no-brainers, and a walkthrough of the single player campaign. This is probably the most helpful part of the guide, although they do not really break down the missions enough and simply gloss over the details.

The game itself really isn't deep enough to warrant the need for a strategy guide - and I believe Prima figured this out, which is why they padded 2/3 of it with pretty pictures of Star Trek ships from the game.

I would recommend renting the game for the X Box 360 and see for yourself how much you need a strategy guide. I will go ahead and summarize strategy in STL for you so that you are good to go:

    WEAPONS:
Phasers dissipate over distance, so try to get in close before letting loose. Also - don't constantly press the fire button - let your phaser banks charge up so that you get some good drain on the enemy shields. This should be the primary attack of any ship designated "Cruiser"

Photon/Quantum torpedoes give the hull of enemy ships a beating - this should be the primary attack of any ship designated "Destroyer" and try to save them for when you have drained the shields with phaser fire. Unload a few of these into the hull of an enemy ship and it will seriously damage it.

Warp: You cannot warp near asteroids or planets. Use this to your advantage, and be sure not to get caught in a disadvantage. Neither asteroids nor planets can hurt you - so feel free to warp right in.

That is pretty much all you need to know. In any 1 vs 1 ship combat - be sure to match up ships to their equivalent. You will not be able to beat a larger ship with a smaller ship.

The Borg cannot handle a sustained assault of multiple ships. If it is 1 vs 1 and the player is Borg - outfit your fleet with Destroyers. The Borg have no shields and the torpedoes damage them quite a bit en masse.

That is about as deep as the game gets. There are no shield facings to worry about. You can do subsystem targeting... but it really has no effect in the grand scheme considering how hard it is to pull off in MP/Skirmish.

Borg Cubes are really powerful weapon-wise, but really weak hull-wise. >4 ships can take down a cube easily with the loss of maybe 1 ship.

  2. The only gripe I have is the keyboard controls and lack of reference material. Overall fun game!

  3. If you get the game you should get this guide. It give you info on all the ships all the maps and all the missions. Plus its full of beautifully designed pages.

  4. This game is the best for Star Trek! If you need any game of Star Trek, this is the one.

  1. Okay, a rating of 1 might be a little harsh - I'll admit that. But, the guide IS incomplete which is really bad in my opinion if you're going to shell out your hard earned dollars to buy a guide with the intention that the guide will supposedly allow you to achieve 100% completion of the game.
This guide WILL NOT help you complete the game 100%, and this is why:
It does NOT have all of the energon cube locations. So if you're trying to achieve 100% completion this guide fails. This might not matter to some gamers, but if it does than do not buy this guide.
Again, I believe if you're going to spend money on a guide it should at least be 100% accurate and complete, otherwise why bother.

  2. Everything I could say about this guide I've already said in my review for the guide to "Spider-Man: friend or Foe." It breaks down the complexities of the game into easy-to-follow details. It makes the game much more fun when you know what you're doing. Thanks again.

3 comments about X-Men(tm) Legends II: Rise of Apocalypse Official Strategy Guide (Official Strategy Guides (Bradygames)).
  1. As usual, I bought this book after I completed X-Men Legends II, and actually used it to play through the game another time. To a certain extent, I'd say that it's a pretty handy guide for anyone who needs a step-by-step walkthrough of the game, even though it does have its fair share of errors and omissions.

The maps in this book, like those in the first book, are particularly useful. Numbers are allocated on the maps, and a table is always found beside a map to identify what you can find at these locations, be it a disc, a sketch book, a comic, a homing beacon or even a boss fight. This essentially makes the text redundant, as a player can simply look at the map, check the incidents from the table, and proceed without having to read a whole lot of text to proceed.

The characters building section of the book is also adequately written to provide the reader a general idea of how to level up your favorite characters. Players who're interested in maximising the potential of these characters should find the tips here pretty useful.

The book also has a mandatory "trivia game" section that has with all the answers for the Q&A mini-game found in every act of the game. There're a couple of errors here though, so you may be frustrated by the unintentional sabotage that causes you not to get 100% correct on the questions.

All in all, this is an above average guide that is nicely structured, well presented and informative. Recommended if you really need the assistance.

  2. We have been using this book while playing the game and have found that it is very frustrating. Things are mislabled, in the wrong place, and there is not enough information on some of the characters. We found better information looking on the internet. Also it does not tell you that you can only get some of the extra characters, like Cable and others, in the PSP version of the game. I would not recommend this book to people buying the game.

  3. It is a great game for one person to play alone or several.
