2 comments about Toy Buildings: 1880-1980 (Schiffer Book for Collectors).
- An outstanding book for dollhouse collectors. Toy Buildings is a must for any collector with interest from Bliss to Converse to Keystone buildings. This book is not limited to dollhouse, but covers a wide variety of toy buildings, many that my brother had. It is an excellent refernce for history of manufactures to present day values for many toy buildings of this era. The color photos are of high quality and does an outstanding job of detailing many old toy building. Most dollhouse collectors have accumulated many Mystery buildings, this book is very useful in unraveling these Mysteries. Written by two excellent collectors, who have written several dollhouse books, this book offers new photos and information on houses and buildings not discussed in past publications. I am a collector of over 25 years and am very glad that I have added this outstanding book to my library.
- Terrific informative book, many beautiful illustrations. A must for any dollhouse and antique toy collector.

- ...which become obsolete probably within the year. Nevertheless, this is a good guide for what is and is not available, a price or value relative to another model, or what was ever made in the first place. It's obsolete by now as a price guide (one look at eBay will tell you that), but a comprehensive guide to the hobby.

2 comments about Games: American Boxed Games and Their Makers, 1822-1992 : With Values.
- I'm sure many of you will have noticed that board games are becoming popular again, and also collectable! It is invariably in times of good economy when people seem to enjoy playing and collecting games. The times in history that the best games were invented were the Victorian era, the Roaring 20s, pre-war economic recovery (late 30s), post-war (50s), and off and on until the late 90s current recovery. Because of this, finding game collector's resources such as this one is very useful.
I have several of the board game books which refer to the history, have images of, and list the values of collectable board games throughout their history. "Games: American Boxed Games and Their Makers, 1822-1992: With Values" is, by far, the best written and most useful in starting a collection. I feel that Bruce Whitehill's pricing is very accurate and that the exhaustively researched history of each game and every game company has lead to some important insights about my collecting. I have found that I use this book most often in conjunction with another good book, "Board Games with Price Guide," by Desi Scarpone (also available on Amazon). The main benefit of the Scarpone book is that there are full-color photographs of every game he lists. He tends to list more pop-culture games, while Whitehill highlights nearly all of the Victorian and traditional games like the Parker Brothers classics, etc. The Scarpone book also doesn't price as accurately; with prices generally being stated as a range, and being more wholesale oriented (half retail). This book has only eight pages of color plates and only 1/3 or fewer of the games listed has a black & white picture, but there are far more games listed, priced, and described (with contents and histories) than any other book. I refer to it three times as often as the others. It also has great, detailed sections on game history, collecting games, and how to price them, and a GREAT games resources section! Above all, I think this the best single ! book about board games that I have discovered. I would like to see the publisher/author do a version that has color images throughout, but I love the book for what it is even without the color. If anyone reading this review would like to contact me with questions or comments, I welcome them.
- Bruce Whitehill has written a terrific reference work that belongs in the library of any serious game collector.

2 comments about Today's Hottest Die-Cast Vehicles.
- A brand new, year 2000 304 page book devoted to the the popular collectible Die-Cast vehicles. There are more than 500 large, sharp black and white photos and a super 32 page color section with large, sharp photos. Values are year 2000. If you're into Hot Wheels, this book provides the most comprehensive Hot Wheels list I've seen. Included is a brief introduction to the collectible, and of each category. Major topics range from Corgi, Dinky, Hot Wheels and Johnny Ligtning to Matchbox, Racing Champions and Tootsietoy. Each toy description is complete and numbered, and includes Good, Excellent, and Mint condition pricing. A really great reference and pricing guide that's a must have for collectors of these toys. There are over 5,000 listings with more than 12,000 prices. Very useful.
- First of all, I HATE the BIG UGLY picture of American Car Racer...do not know his name, on the cover of the book. Second, I hate NASCAR and Cheap political HOT WHEEL junk I do not even care for looking at. The book should focus on HIGH QUALITY COLLECTIBLE BRANDS ONLY. What a waste of paper~!!!

1 comments about Teddy Bears Past and Present: A Collector's Identification Guide.
- Linda Mullins identification book is a must for the teddy bear collector. I have followed Mullins' teddy bear shows in So. California for almost 20 years and this book captures the knowledge and experience of Mullins. This book offers comprehensive information that not only clearly identifies past collectible teddy bears but provides bear "seekers" valuable information on the newer bears the collector should be watching. Thanks Linda Mullins for such a fine book!
