  1. This is his latest Coca Cola pricing guide. All pictures are in color, unlike his big book that mixes color and b&w photos. It has helped me with my large CC colection but is far from being as complete as is his 11th volume. It is a good guide. BB

  1. There's not a lot of printed information in this book, it's mostly pictures, but I absolutely LOVE this book. The pictures are great, & they come in handy if you need something to refer to, say for auction information (buying or selling). I highly recommend this book if it's pictures of vintage items you're after, you won't be disappointed!

  2. I've had this book for years and look at it often. the European dolls pictured are not seen in most other guides . I wish some of the photos were better and that the color was more true to life in them but I can't fault her research or her doll knowledge. I don't know this author like I do Jim or Michael or Joe so this is a legit review and not done out of kindness but the guys i mentioned are top notch too and don't need friendship reviews either

  1. I love this book! There are pictures of track sets, play sets and every other odd Hot Wheels accessory that you would ever get to see in one place! I can't believe that he has all this stuff in his collection!
I hope Mr. Zarnock does another edition of this book with even more pictures!

  2. This book has a lot of valuable details on years certain options were available, as well as photographs of package art. It has helped me complete some of my sets (just from the photos) as well as identify some of my pieces that I wasn't sure of the origin.

Good reading if you want to relive your childhood!

  1. this hefty tome covers the lower end of the market with nothing much for the serious collector of quality models.

  2. First of all, I HATE the BIG UGLY picture of American Car Racer...do not know his name, on the cover of the book. Second, I hate NASCAR and Cheap political HOT WHEEL junk I do not even care for looking at. The book should focus on HIGH QUALITY COLLECTIBLE BRANDS ONLY. What a waste of paper~!!!

5 comments about Toy Car Collector's Guide: Identification and Values for Diecast, White Metal, Other Automotive Toys & Models (Toy Car Collectors Guide).
  1. A great new, year 2002 softbound 336 page volume. There are more than 800 brands of cars included, from 1910 to 2000. An interesting history is provided, as well as current values and buying and selling tips. The book covers Hot Wheels, Matchbox, Corgi, Johnny Lightning,Tomica and more. There's detailed information about scale, evaluating models, and insights into buying and selling. Comprehensive guide for the collector.

  2. This book has a review on almost every kind of toy car, but leaves out the prices of a lot of them. There is almost no selection for hot-wheels, but there is a lot of selection for matchbox. My problem is that I have cars with no model numbers, which makes this book useless. I was able to find ERTL and a few others I had though.

  3. The books has many companies listed and gives histories but gives a generic price range. I mainly purchased this book for 1:18 scale models and was sad to see that a roughly half of my collection is not even listed in the book.

  4. I've just seen this book at a local bookstore. I was pretty excited when I found it and started to browse. But then, I became a little disappointed! The author gives a few pages to companies like Corgi and Dinky, and far too many to Majorette. I would say that the Majorette part is almost one tenth of the book! Overall the photos are pretty good and there's some good information too.
I didn't buy it, but maybe I would later, and only if I find it at a very, VERY, low price!

  5. Do not spend your money on this and all Dana books.Unless you want to see a bunch of letters and photos of listed cars that are not a collector items.Majorette items do half of the book.If you are lookin for a book on die cast models cars, buy something by an english.

5 comments about Blast Off! Rockets, Robots, Ray Guns, and Rarities from the Golden Age of Space Toys.
  1. Blast Off! is a fun and fascinating read for any fan of science fiction, space toys, or comic books. It's a beautiful coffee table-sized book with sexy images of robots, ray guns, and toys of all types that make you feel nostalgic even if you don't remember these toys from the first time around.

This book offers a history of "in the know" type stories about specific toys and the personalities who created and purchased them. There's the Buck Rogers XZ-31 rocket pistol that led Macy's and Gimbels into their most vicious price war ever, dropping prices by the hour to support the most successful toy promotion the world had ever seen. And there's the collector Bob Lesser who pays double the sticker price to win dealer loyalty. And there's a never-been-published story of the untimely death of Flash Gordon creator Alex Raymond. Plus the authors offer insight into how toys have affected history, entertainment, and the space program.

If you're a fan of Buck Rogers like I am, you should also check out Blast Off! author S. Mark Young's interviews with Erin Grey in Filmfax (Oct/Nov 2002 and Feb/Mar 2003) for a sensitive rendering of a sensational story.

  2. More than merely a definitive catalogue of the subject, Blast Off is a socio-historical journey. Toys offer provide the prism through which the authors examine fascinating sociological phenomenon. Make no mistake this is the definitive book for this topic, but it becomes a tour de force by examining the history, economics, and sociology implied by these fascinating products from our recent past.

  4. As the author of ZAP! Ray Gun Classics, I've looked at a LOT of books on vintage space toys and in my opinion this is the very best one. The diversity of items, production values, factual information and other comments are all superb. I return to this book whenever I need a space toy "nostalgia fix" and I always seem to find something new. No vintage space toy collection should be without it.

  5. I gave this book as a birthday present to my boyfriend, who is a lover of vintage robots. He was thrilled with the book! Lots of great pictures and interesting bits of information. I definitely recommend this book to anyone who enjoys in robots or vintage toys, either as a serious collector or just someone with a general interest.

4 comments about PEZ: Warman's Companion.
  1. Pez books are getting better and better. Still leave out a lot of info not covered. But a good help book to new collectors. Cover no Japanese pez at all, and little foreign pez.Would like to see more of encyclopedia try book on pez.

  2. Thiis very descriptive and information Pez book serves as a great visual guide to what is out there in the world of Pez. The photographs are very true to color and clear--an important aspect. I have made reference to it already on several occasions.

  3. The Good - there are lots of nice pictures of pez. The bad - good luck finding specific pez, or a real list of pez, because the organization is bad and the index is a joke. Sometimes pez are listed in groups (i.e. to find Olive Oil, look under "Popeye"), sometimes individually (Peter Pan and Captain Hook are in different places), sometimes (frustratingly) it is BOTH, with no cross references. For example, the Disney are not grouped - Donald Duck is seperate from Micky Mouse, BUT the "Disney Extreme" series pez are in their own group (confusingly named "Micky Mouse Extreme" and filed under M) and those pez are NOT found on the Micky, Donald, Goofy pages (and looking up Donald Duck in the index will NOT lead you to the "extreme" Donald on that page).

The groups (or non-groups) appear to be chosen at random, and then later more groups and non-groups were added to this addition of the book somewhere close to the spot they could go (without checking the old edition or updating it). This can be seen by the fact that the book is only somewhat in alphabetical order - somehow "Mimic the Monkey" ended up between "Micky Mouse" and "Micky Mouse Extreme". The upshoot of all this is if you want to just look at lots of pictures of pez, the book is good. If you want to see a particular pez, you might be able to find it - or you might not (even if it is hidden somewhere within). If you want to see all the versions of a particular pez, forget it - they may be strung throughout the book in multiple locations (if they are in there at all).

  4. My sons collect Pez dispensers. They are 3 & 5! They love this book (which we purchased on Amazon after checking it outof the library-we loved it so much, we had to own it!) I frequently will find even my 3 year old just sitting & looking at this book. He likes to show which Pez "expensers" he has, and point out which he would ike to have! Great book, well illustrated, fun for kids & parents, too!
