5 comments about Collector's Guide to Dolls of the 1960s and 1970s: Identification & Values, Vol. 1.
  1. This is a terrific book with tons of bright and detailed photos. Contains a lot of the popular dolls from this period- along with some that are not so popular (which is nice for identifying). Contains dolls such as Liddle Kiddles, Dolly Darling, Crissy, Flatsy, Playpal, Thumbelina, Barbie, Darcy, Tammy, and so many more. It is a pleasure to read so you will find yourself coming back to look at it even when you don't have a doll to identify.

  2. Cindy has done it again - This is a FABULOUS guide to all those dolls we played with back then! Cindy has indexed this book by all of the popular (and not-so-popular) doll manufacturers in order by year of release. Everything is full color, with approximate secondary market values! Vinyl dolls from the 60's and 70's are rapidly growing in value on the collector's market and buyers have the BEST opportunity now to scour, ID and sell - this is one book you do not want to be without at doll shows! I enjoyed reacquainting myself with most all of the dolls displayed. Thanks, Cindy!

  3. Cindy Sabulis' Dolls Of The 1960s And 1970s (162-5, pairs pages packed with color photos of the dolls and most often their boxes with identification tips and values ranges. This will prove an invaluable guide for any avid doll collector needing a complete reference to makers and dolls of these eras.

  4. This book is great. I am very pleased with it. It has lots of dolls to look at/look up. The dolls are catagorized by manufactorer but if you can't find your doll that way the index is extremely easy to use. It has helped me a lot in my doll collecting and it has also helped add some dolls to my want list. All in all wonderful book, worth buying.

  5. I saw this book sticking out on a shelf in the library. Though I don't have a doll interest I decided to check it out. I've checked it out at least five times since then.
The book is so colorful and beautifully laid out. The woman has a sense of humor about the bizarre items of the past, some of which would never pass today like the doll Flatsy. Another item of this book was Growing Hair Cher where a person could make Cher's hair go up and down with a key.
I've shown this to other people and it always manages to get a couple of laughs.

2 comments about Collector's Guide to Classic O Gauge Trains (Collector's Guide to Classic O-Gauge Trains).
  1. This book is well done. It has clear photos, and is super-organized and delightfully written. The U.S. toy train industry grew and changed since the beginning of the 20th Century until the 1960 downturn. This book covers this time period and is a fine cross-section of all the major (and some minor) manufacturers and the history behind them from their genesis, who merged with whom, and who lost out in the long haul. I highly recommend this splendid toy train overview to the many amateur and professional collectors out there who will have a definite interest in this excellent publication. It's author, David Doyle, has researched the subject! From one model train collector to another, get this book. I give it a Fiver!

  2. A nice reference guide book for a variety of great American O gauge toy trains. While it doesn't exhaustingly list every piece produced by each manufactor it provides a good cost reference for general pieces. Some of the manufactors are not very well represented (i.e. Hafner, Dorfan) and the color pictures only cover a few examples of each company's trains. Still, for the price, it is an essential general reference for the collector.

3 comments about The Big Toy Box At Sears(1951-1969).
  1. The Big Toy Box at Sears is a compilation from the awesome Sears Wishbook catalogs of the 1950's and 60's covering boys toys. It is one heckuva a trip down memory lane with cap guns, foto-electric football, GI Joe, slot cars and more.

You'll be instantly transported back in time if you're a guy. I can remember the catalog arriving at home in September and immediately making out my christmas list.

My only two complaints is that they had gone into the 1970's to see more great GI JOE stuff along with Hot Wheels and the first wave of Star Wars toys.

Secondly at close to $50 bucks it's a bit steep although it is over 500 pages.

  2. In the brief introduction to this book the editor states, "If there ever was a "Golden Age" of Western Civilization this was surely it. In the following pages one can see both the reflection of yesterday and the seeds of the future, for few things in our culture are able to capture the sense of the times as are the trivial artifacts we give to our children to play with." Well, these were the playthings that the richest nation in human history gave to its children in the Golden Age between 1951 and 1969. The entire world offered their finest toys to America- but none were finer than those made by our own manufacturers (Marx, Ideal, Mattel, Remco, Kenner, Lionel, Gilbert...)

This edited sellection is mostly of boy's toys from the "wishbooks." You will find Marx playsets and electric trains especially well covered. But there is so much more: Mr. Machine, Robot Commando, Big Caesar Galley, Barracuda Sub, Lost in Space Switch-N-Go, Barracuda Sub, Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea playsets, Batman playsets, Hamilton's Invaders, Mattel Shootin' Shell, G.I. Joe, etc., etc., etc. Your only complaint will be that 583 pages aren't enough.

Not all the pages are in color, but I don't remember that all the original catalog pages were in color either. Covers are also reproduced in color for all 19 years.

  3. This book provides the reader with interesting information on the particular subject, namely toys at Sears. It covers, as per the title, from the period 1951-1969, providing an excellent visual display of the annual catalogues, including the toys & trains sold. It brings back memories of years / Christmas's gone by & trips to Sears department store (in my case Gamages in London England) to see the annual Christmas display. I give it a top 5 star rating as it appeals to the writer's values, nothing less. An excellent book.

2 comments about Cracker Jack*r Toys.
  1. This is an amazingly comprehensive collection of Cracker Jack prizes, with HUNDREDS of detailed photos showing THOUSANDS of prizes. While this book is a must-have for the serious collector of Cracker Jack prizes, it will delight anyone with pleasant memories of those special prizes.

The accompanying prize lists with descriptive and historical information are presented chronologically, with prizes grouped by series where applicable. An elaborate identification system reflecting the prizes' date, composition, marking, type, size, color, and description is utilized, with estimated value for each prize given.

Searching through CRACKER JACK TOYS for that fondly remembered surprise can be almost as much fun as originally digging for it in a box of Cracker Jack!

  2. After my grandmother passed away, we found a shoebox full of cracker jack toys. It was her special treat for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. We took them and mounted them for memory reasons, but this book brought our love of the little toys to a reality of why we loved them as children and the precious value that they have for us today. A great part of our childhood in a great book!

5 comments about The My Little Pony G3 Collector's Inventory: an unofficial full color illustrated guide to the third generation of MLP including all ponies, playsets and accessories from 2003 to the present.
  1. This book is DEFINITELY worth it if you collect the current release My Little Ponies. Everything is very organized, with pictures of the different ponies both in their original packaging and removed from the box. Some even have detailed Cutie Mark pictures. There are notes about special European released items and the peculiar Mexican and Brazilian ponies, as well as those available for general distribution worldwide.

The only error I caught was a picture mix-up involving Fancy Hair ponies Royal Beauty and Rainbow Treat on page 112. Other than that, everything was perfect!

It is a fabulous paper resource to organize and catalogue one's collection.

This could also make a very good gift for children who like the My Little Pony toys, due to the pictures and interesting information, but beware--they could fall in love with one of the RARE ponies like Rosey Posey! ;) Of course, perhaps that would create a budding collector!

I can't wait to see a second or third edition as the My Little Pony line continues! Heaps of thanks to Summer Hayes for taking the time to get this guide together!

  2. The pictures are nice and glossy with excellent descriptions of each item. SO many pages from the past few years of all the pony toys and playsets and she provides checklists next to each item! I was personally excited about getting this book and was lucky to get to meet Summer in person and have her sign it for me. :) I highly recommend this book. I will definitely be using it for years to come. Thanks so much Summer for a fantastic product!

  3. This inventory is a toy collector (or kid's dream) come true! Each page is full of high quality, colored pictures with the name and description of the ponies IN YEAR ORDER of when they came out. A picture of the new in box ponies of EACH one is also featured at the bottom of the page!

This guide also feautres EVERY pony and My Little Pony piece from 2003-2007 when the book was published- If your little girl (or boy) loves the ponies, you would be at a loss to not purchase this book for them.

Can't afford to buy or purchase every pony out there? Well this would make a great addition to the pony collection and doesn't take up as much space and money as owning all the ponies!

  4. This inventory is a toy collector for all i got this book is great it have a lot on G3 my little pony toy for all of us to know if you a my little pony toy collector this collector book is for you

  5. The guide is beautifully done, with clear pictures and fantastic organization. There is clearly a lot of research and work that has gone into this labor of love, and it shows. This book is just brimming with valuable information.

It's a great resource to have on hand. For those of us with extensive collections, it really makes all the difference when trying to organize and inventory ponies and accessories.

As someone who owns both of Summer's books, I highly suggest getting one of your own--it's a great investment!
