Although this book has beautiful pictures and interesting recipes, you should be aware that it is the exact same book as "Handmade Soap, a practical guide to making natural soaps," but for the title and photos on the cover, together with its omissions -- the author fails to state what "mixed herbs" are in the recipe, and also fails to state how long soap must be cured before making the hand milled recipes. Several emails to the publisher have failed to elicit a response.



2. This is a good book for someone who already knows the basics of soap making. Some of her ideas are amazingly creative and beautiful. I think a previous reviewer missed this aspect entirely. For someone who already has made many batches of soap, details like curing times are unimportant. My wife and I were looking for a book that hit on the artistry more, and although we have several books already, we both were amazed at the beauty (and simplicity) of the soaps in this book. I do agree that the techniques need to be fleshed out better. There are some beautiful cakes of soap in the book, but not always a good enough explanation of how to make them. A good editor would have made this a 5-star book.

1. This book explains most of the terminology involved in candle-making, as well as explanations of different techniques and step-by-step instructions for getting started. Each style of candle described includes a list of equipment needed and great photographs of the finished product. There is a detailed description for each style of candle and hints on how to overcome more difficult steps. Each style of candle is followed up with the exact making process, including notes on the author's personal experiences and failings (and how to avoid repeating them.) This has been a very enjoyable book. It was also my first candle-making book.
