- The book has some good ideas and seems adaptable to creating your own designs. Most of the designs shown are not to my liking, but could be easily changed to suit different tastes.

4 comments about Creative Serging: Innovative Applications to Get the Most from Your Serger.
- I found this book very disappointing. I have a large collection of sewing & serging books that are inspiring and useful, and this book isn't either of those. There are few applications in this book I would ever use, and it most likely will just sit on the shelf.
- I loved this book. It has lots of photos and the instructions are accurate. Lots of ideas, too.
- I went through so many serger books before I finally found this one that gives tips & ideas for using the cover & chain stitch functions on the TOL sergers!! The book is worth the purchase price just for that. It also contains good basic, entry level serger information, and some interesting garment projects that will help you stretch your serging muscles and get you thinking about all kinds of creative possibilities.
- This book is really only useful to those who have newer sergers that chain & coverstitch. There are 2 helpful pages each on stabilizers, thread, & accessories - out of 170+ pages of text. The text is written in a gushing "golly, gosh, aren't we irreverent & fun" style. The project instructions are sketchy, more outlines than instructions. In the end it doesn't matter, as the projects themselves are so unattractive & home-made looking I wouldn't ever consider making them. A disappointing waste of money.

5 comments about Encyclopaedia of Curtains.
- I would recommend this book to anyone. It guides the reader in making all types of curtains-from sheers to swags to bed linen. It is easy to follow and although no patterns are included, one can easily follow the steps for making the pattern!
- At first glance this book seemed excellent but after reading it it transpired that the instructions are not always very clear. Although an experienced curtain and blind maker at times I could only decipher instructions in the light of existing knowledge. A beginner would sometimes have difficulty in working out what to do. Text and diagrams were often not clearly connected or illustrated. Also, alternative methods of procedures were not highlighted. For example, different ways of dealing with the construction of a roman blind.
- This book goes into detail as how to makes curtains and blinds and has lots of photos and illustrations and makes curtain making very easy.
- This book is full of wonderful and clear information that has helped me not only sell features, but construct them as well. Thank you!
- I own many books of this type, and this one is the most complete guide to window coverings all in one place. I refer to it constantly, even when using other guides to sewing drapes. The instructions are clear and well illustrated with drawings, not photos. Lots of photos in the idea section, however.

4 comments about Veiled in Beauty: Creating Headpieces & Veils for the Bride.
- I ordered this book at the same time as "I Do Veils and so Can You," and this book puts that one to shame. This book does a great job of demonstrating how to cut the different shapes of veils from tulle, easy to follow instructions for various headpiece construction techniques, and a wide variety of options for embellishments and finishing. There are lots of options presented in terms of fabrics and materials, and the book suggests actual things you can buy at your local fabric store. Don't waste your money on the other outdated books out there when you can learn everything you need from this one!
- I bought this book after reading the other reviews. I thought that this one would be better than 'I Do Veils So Can You.' This book has better pictures and some ideas that the other did not, but not terribly much. I do think that those extra ideas were worth buying the book for. It has more infomation on making a wire frame and decorating the headpiece. I did have a hard time understanding some of the directions for making different types of veils. I am still searching for a book with better information on making veils.
- I purchased Veiled in Beauty to go on my shelf of resource materials, you know the shelf you go to when the coffee hasn't kicked in at 7 in the morning?! I must admit I am very thankful that I have millinery experience as you are not shown how to make the foundation pieces such as juliet caps, crescents, wired frames and so forth. You are shown how to cover these pieces though, utilising a number of methods such as crinolin(horse hair is crinolin out here - don't trust my spelling of it), covering a buckram frame (book suggests underlining fabric with flannel, a item not easily come by in Australia any more- try pellon, a fine wadding used under quilt tops to enhance embroidery etc).
Veiled in Beauty contains some beautifully taken photographs. It also features a number of illustrations that clearly demonstrate numerous styles of veils. If you are patient, you can match some of the suggested styles and trims to the photos. You are shown how to make veils, such as single tiered veils, two-tiered veils, veils with a pouf, bouffant veils and so forth. Also features instructions for mantillas. Lace applications are demonstrated as well as edging techniques. You are shown how to make continuous bias.
Something that may be interest - you are shown how to make your veil removable from your head piece. That way you can get extra value out of your cocktail base by wearing it at your reception or even to other events after your big day. You're also shown how to make barrette bows- this might be a great idea for your flower girls? Don't forget the wreathes, made from fresh flowers either.
To succesfully use this book I would suggest that you must have a fair amount of patients and an ability to follow the written word. The instructions are clear, but it does no good if you are like me and just want to get right into it.
Like every resource, DIY, style guide book, etc- what you can do with what they sohw you is limited only by you. Let your imagination take over and make sure you purchase some surplus nylon illusion to experiment on before committing to your final piece. Veiled in Beauty is a lovely book that I wouldn't hesitate reccommending to someone who has a little bit of time on their hands. Don't buy this if you expect to be able to produce your bridal head wear in a day and are relatively new to sewing. It might end up more pricey then paying someone to make your veil in the first place.
This book is a 3 and a half star for me - like another reviewer wrote, it just lacks something that I can not put my finger on. When I do, I'll come back and edit this review.
edit: I found it very difficult to make a veil using the instructions in this book, that's my primary gripe.
There is a better book for bridal veil referencing, if you can use your imagination to update styles. I can't find it on Amazon. It was written by Margo Ann Daley, and is called Hats for Brides and Weddings. I made a number of veils based on the instructions in that book without problems (please remember I am fairly well experienced with millinery sewing and any issues tend to solve themselves instantly in my head and flow forth to my hands- if that makes sense).
- i didnt even receive the product i order ,i received two dvds on baseball pitching i wouldnt recomend even using amazon when you can go to your local book store and pickup any given book, or they will order it for you i found this out through trial and error on amazons part

3 comments about Jackets for Real People: Tailoring Made Easy (Sewing for Real People series).
- I am a fan of Palmer and Pletsch books and have found them very helpful in many ways, but this book was a bit of a disappointment. While there are photos of many "real" women being fitted (helpful) the instructions for the actual tailoring are mostly illustrations. If you need to SEE what something is supposed to look like, a drawing can be inadequate, and that is why I have not given this book more stars. That said, if you get both the Singer Library book on Tailoring (which is full of photographs) and this book, you will have the tools you need to make a jacket. I was able to make a lovely tweed jacket on my first try using the Singer book alone. Then I tried to make one using JACKETS FOR REAL PEOPLE and kept going back to the Singer book for clarification. JACKETS FOR REAL PEOPLE is high on fit, lower on technique, while the Singer book is high on technique, lower on fit. Hope this helps.
- Arrived without fuss, however book cover was damaged although advertised as new.
- This book teaches you a lot of useful tailoring techniques, primarily speed tailoring using fusible interfacing. The book will guide you through each step of the process of making a jacket, from choosing appropriate fabric and pattern for your sewing skills, to fitting, cutting, marking and sewing the jacket and lining. They have excellent instructions for making welt pockets, bound buttonholes and bagging the lining. I don't know how I survived without this book! They also have a chapter about the most common fit alterations, but for more complete directions I recommend their book Fit for Real People.

1 comments about Metric Pattern Cutting for Children's Wear and Babywear: From Birth to 14 Years.
- Babywear & children's clothing will no longer have any secrets after you have used Winifreds' book. It explains how to make all styles for all ages and then some. It's easy to use and written in plain english! The best I've ever come across and I would highly recommend it for both beginners and advanced patterns makers.
