1. I look for Sudoku books with three qualities. First, I want puzzles that have only one solution. If I find a book that includes puzzles with more than one solution I discard it. Two, I want books with grids large enough that I can enter candidates in the cells. Third, I want books with challenging puzzles. Many of the descriptions on Amazon omit such info.
   
   I prefer grids that are about 4 ½" x 4 ½". The grids in my newspaper are about 3" x 3" (which is tolerable because not many candidates are needed).
   
   Shortz's Sudoku by the Sea: The puzzles have only one solution; the grids are 4 ½" x 4 1/2". I was disappointed to discover that this book includes 270 "Light and Easy" and 30 "Moderate" puzzles. This book may not even be suitable as a gift to a beginner, since most beginners quickly want to move beyond "moderate."

1. I love word games and there aren't enough out there- it's a field dominated (almost exclusively) by crossword puzzles. The Boggle workbooks (there are currently two) are terrific- as easy or hard as you want them to be- you're just making words out of adjacent letters- you get higher points for longer words, etc. I am addicted to these books. I've now bought each twice, just keep re-working the same two. So I really wish they'd bring out Boggle Brainbusters 3!



2. I love playing Boggle, both the original game and the computer game, so I was disappointed with this book. The rules are somewhat different, making it too easy. Also, there is no "correct" word list, so you can assume all the words you make are correct. Just not what I had expected.



3. My daughter and i use this and we both love it. We will take turns or time each other. And some of the puzzles are very challenging and others not so much so I can always find one that suits us both.



4. This was the first Boggle book that I bought. I absolutely love them because I enjoy the challenge of making as many words as I can. The book starts with a simple 4x4 block of letters and has about 36 lines that you can use to make words. The challenge to me is to try to make double that amount. After a certain amount of the 4x4 grids, they increase to 5x5, 6x6 and then there are a couple of 18x18 grids in the end. Also, on each page there are special "Brainbusters" for you to find. They give the clues and then you have to find the words. Some are easy, some require a bit more thinking. It's great brain exercise. This is a great puzzle book to have during a lunch break, waiting at the doctors/dentist office, recuperating from an illness/surgery, during a trip or waiting on transportation for the trip or just relaxing at home or even in the park. If like to have fun with letters and words then you will enjoy Boggle Brainbusters.



5. This is a paper version of the classic dice game, without the dice, tray or egg timer! The rules are still the same, you link letters up and down, side-to-side and diagonally to create as many words as possible. The more letters in the word, the more points one gets. And if you make it over 100 points, you're really doing well. To add some serious brainbusting, they often stick in mystery words and word categories to find while you're linking letters. Challenging.

1. I am a complete Sudoku addict and am very disappointed with this book. The only reason I bought it was because I was desperate for more puzzles and it was the only one available at the store I was in. First of all, it costs $4.99 which to me, is way too much money when you can get a Kappa book for $1.99 which has better puzzles. Another thing that bugs me about this book is that some of the answer keys in the back don't match the corresponding puzzles. When I get to the difficult/Very Challenging ones in the back, sometimes I need a little help! But unfortunately, this book has quite a few errors in the answer section so when I've hit a dead end, it's over.
   
   I would recommend Kappa books from your local supermarket. This simply costs too much money for not mush quality.

1. I ordered this since my sister received it and thought it was a great book. Unfortunately, this copy does not come with the answers. Look for the hard cover version, that has the answers in the back.



2. CDB! (Stories to Go!)
   
   I was very excited to find this book for my grandbaby. We had great fun with it when her aunts were small. Who would have thought back then that William Stieg invented 'text speak'. I even stumped my youngest daughter with NQ!



3. I have always chuckled at this book, ever since I helped in my children's school library 20 years ago. William Steig has such a clever way of putting letters together and illustrating what he is trying to say. It is interesting to children of all ages.



4. Having enjoyed Steig's first such book as an adult, we sent a copy to a budding linguist at college. Upon ordering I was delighted to find this second enjoyable book available. Steig has such delightful images and twists of humor that I could not pass it up. Great fun in drawings and puzzling out the meanings.



5. This is one of my favorite childhood books, so I was thrilled to share it with my daughter. We have both CDB and CDC now, and she loves them (and thinks it's pretty cool that Steig also wrote Shrek!) Besides the fun of sounding out the phrases and the laughs it provides, I think the books are mentally challenging and verbally stimulating for children of all ages. Educational maybe, but so much fun. Who doesn't love the illustrations?

1. Not rocket science entertainment here but overall a good deal for the price. All you need is a coin and a pen. Great for travel.
