4 comments about Origami Paper: 24 7" x 7" Sheets in 12 Colors (Origami).
  1. As a beginner, this was a nice set of paper to work with. Lot's of colors to start and easy to fold..

  2. This set of origami paper was very convenient and my 8 year old daughter had a lot of fun using it. Not to mention the convenience of having it shipped right to our mailbox. She loves to get mail and packages. The price was very reasonable too.

  3. The paper was fine. I used it with a basic origami book. My group of 7 kids went through it all in about an hour. It probably would have been a better value if I bought it at the local craft store.

  4. I thought the paper would be thiner, but it has a substantial feel to it.

5 comments about The Big Book of Brain Games: 1,000 PlayThinks of Art, Mathematics & Science.
  1. This was purchased for two kids, 9 and 13, to take on a trip for use in the car or the expected rainy afternoons. Fun to do and a challenge for their grandparents, too.

  2. A superbly designed book of puzzles. You will find all types of "brain games" with different degrees of difficulty clearly marked. An index at the end of the book allows you to choose a "brain game" according to its type and degree of difficulty. Solutions to all brain games are at the end of the book.
Very colourful and inviting for all ages. Just leave it on your coffee table and all the family will stop to browse it and try their hands (or brains rather) at any of these attractively presented puzzles.

  3. This book is great! Very fun...the only parts we don't enjoy are the parts you are supposed to cut. We don't want to cut up our book so we most likely won't do those activities. Our favorites are the activities that don't require anything but our mind or that we can read to each other. Very fun to do with another person to pass the time.

  4. I bought this as a Christmas present for my 3 kids, who I homeschool. They have all been enjoying the puzzles, which are very challenging for both kids and adults! The graphics are very colorful and appealing to kids. This is a great book to leave out on the coffee table - I highly recommend it!

  5. This book is SO much fun, and there are many challenging puzzles to figure out. It's addictive!

5 comments about Are You Smart, or What? A Bizarre Book of Games & Fun for Everyone.
  1. I am a huge fan of brain teaser books. I have a huge collection of these types of book. BUT after reading this book I say that this book is not as good as it seems in the review. If you think that you will find many Logical and mathematical riddles, this isn't the book for you, but on the other hand if you are into word games this might be a great book for you .

  2. The item was shipped as promised, on time and looked like knew. I would definitely buy products from this seller anytime.

  3. I just adored this book and enjoyed every single puzzle in it. As one reviewer points out, this is a book for word puzzle enthusiasts. It might be compared to Will Shortz's "Puzzlemaster Presents" series. What I love about this book is that it can be done without the aid of a dictionary, as it uses a vocabulary from common cultural literacy (e.g. types of candy bars, etc.). I also appreciate the fact that the references aren't dated like some game books are, which can lead to frustration when I am asked to rely on my knowledge of stars from the eighties. Overall, I simply loved this book for the accessible but challenging fun it provided. I hope that Mr. Battaglia will be gracing us with another book of this type soon!

  4. This extrordinary book takes you deeper than a basic quiz book. It challenges your way of thinking and seeks the reader to apply diverse and lateral thinking in order to come up with what turns out to be, the most obvious answer. It challenges the mind far more that you may think and even challenges you to think. An excelent book to improve spatal orrientation, visual ques and logical thinking. Want to improve your cognition and perception? This would have to be the way. Further more, it is great to use to encourage family members to do the same and simply - THINK. A must try to anyone wanting to indulge the brain in lateral thinking.

  5. Pat Battaglia has a gift for challenging the reader with his verbal and numeric teasers. With each page skillfully crafted to whet your appetite for his next challenge, he offers an array of puzzles that make it difficult to put the book down. Many of the mind benders are so cleverly done, with a nice balance between difficult and easy, he almost compels you to turn the page to find out what lies ahead. When you miss the obvious, the frustration mounts and yet you push on, desperately wanting to decide for yourself, "Am I smart, or WHAT?" The book is excellent fun !

5 comments about Mensa Guide to Solving Sudoku: Hundreds of Puzzles Plus Techniques to Help You Crack Them All (Mensa).
  1. This wasn't the first sudoku book i bought, so i already new some techniques, but i bought it hoping this book could help me solve those difficult puzzles in which i was stuck. And it did, great book, explaines and repeats all techniques, most of them are easy to understand, others are preety long. All in all great book.

  2. The information contained in this book is informative and useful to the Sudoku solver, but the construction quality of this book leaves a little to be desired.

Within 2 days of receiving this book and working puzzles in it, pages came loose from the binding and started falling out. The binding on this book is terrible. If you want this book, use extreme care handling it otherwise the pages will fall out.

The information is good, worth 5 stars. But the poor quality of the binding knocks 2 stars off.

  3. This book gets five stars because it is the first book I found that actually helped me get better at working hard puzzles (and I was no slouch before I got this). I see some reviewers complaining about the puzzles being smaller than many books, which is true, but this book has over 700 puzzles in it. I'll take more puzzles any day.

  4. After solving many puzzles, I found 3 star and lower puzzles too easy, but I occasionally came across a 4 star puzzle that I could not solve without guessing. This book gives you multiple advanced solving strategies that should allow you to solve any "solvable" puzzle. I was disappointed to learn from the author of this book that some puzzles that indeed have one unique solution can only be solved by guessing. The 798 puzzles in this book, however, are guaranteed by the author to be solvable without guessing. So far, I have found this to be true. Hence, I have spent long hours on some of the puzzles with ultimate success without the fear that I am simply wasting my time. I agree with other reviewers that the grids are too small for the amount of note taking that is required to solve them, so I have been transcribing the puzzles onto larger photocopied grids. This strategy also saves the puzzles for another solver or for me at another time.

  5. I have never knowingly done a seduco myself but my wife is hooked. She says this book has brought her to a new level. Now she is going back and trying the ones she had put aside because they were too hard.

  1. i got this for my 6 kids and they've used it so much, the pages are falling out.

  2. I like this book because the pictures and instructions were very clear. The difficulty of each piece is labeled. It is a good book for teaching children the art of Origami.

  3. This book had several origami projects that every single student I had could be successful at. Good instructions. Very pleased.

  4. I brought two of these books for my son and they were both easy to use and alot of fun.

  5. This is a good starter book as it claims to be.. but as I leafed through it I realized that anyone who has had even some remote experience with origami or paper crafts will find this book ... perhaps too basic.

I was hoping for at least a couple of more 'exciting' or slightly advanced projects at the end of the book, but the book stays simple till the end. Also, paper with both coloured sides looks better even for some of the basic designs.

Other than that, it offers exactly what it says on the cover.

5 comments about My Best Mathematical and Logic Puzzles (Math & Logic Puzzles).
  1. Marvelous book. I found it better than many books but my friends, who were not that conversant with intermediate mathematics did not like it much. Though this book doesn't require a knowledge of calculus, people who have this level might appreciate the book more. But it has more to do with mathematical 'thinking' rather than mathematics itself.

So get this one if you are good at mathematical thinking and want to challenge yourself. If you are weak in math and would rather read puzzles that require only logic, cleverness, and lateral thinking only, this may not be the one for you.

  2. Martin Gardner is the grand old man of puzzles and recreational mathematics. I recommend this book for intermediary and advanced puzzle enthusiasts - beginners might find some of these too challenging.

Intermediary puzzlists will find the pleasures of often working at the upper edge of their skills. The solutions at the end of the book are complete enough so that even those who didn't get it right the first time will get aha insights.

The book is well worth its price even for puzzle enthusiasts. Even I knew many of the puzzles beforehand - classics indeed - but the notes in the solutions often add a twist, a clever solution or a human interest point of view.

The age recommendation of amazon.com - 4-8 years - is probably either an insider joke or a typo. I'd recommend this book to people between 14-80 years of age, and even over.

  3. "My best mathematical and logic puzzles" presents 70 of the best of the brain teaser that Martin Gardner published over a period of 25 years in his Mathematical games column at Scientific American. It some cases references to new developments related with specific puzzles have been added.

Martin Gardner was always especially careful to present in his American Scientific column only new and unfamiliar puzzles that have not been included in classic collections before. Now you can challenge your solving skills and rattle your ego with a compilation of his best mind-benders.

Here is an example of what you can find inside this book (31. The absent-minded teller}:

"An absent-minded bank teller switched the dollars and cents when he cashed a check for Mr. Brown, giving him dollars instead of cents, and cents instead of dollars. After buying a five-cent newspaper, Mr. Brown discovered that he had left exactly twice as much as his original check. What was the amount of the check?"

One of the best things about Martin Gardner books is that a carefully explained solution follows each problem, this way you learn and add new abilities to your problem solving skills, that will sure be helpful in solving real life problems, while entertaining yourself with a good and challenging reading.

  4. Nice collection of puzzles with varying difficulties, which do not require any special knowledge of mathematics.

  5. Very nice. I like the old-fashioned approach (I think the author has been writing books like this since the 1960s) and the problems are interesting and varied; most of them you can do in your head (hence an ideal "bathroom book") but some do make you break out the pencil and paper just to double-check. Highly recommended for interested people who studied Maths to around age 18 or beyond.

5 comments about People Puzzler.
  1. I subscribe to People mainly for the Puzzler! It's easy but not too easy, and nothing like the "newspaper crossword". My husband and I actually argue every week, "It's my turn!", "No it's my turn, you did it last week!" Now, I get to do a puzzle every day! As one reviewer said, the ink fom the back of one puzzle can transfer to another page, so I just put a piece of paper behind the page of the puzzle I'm working on. I'm glad that the pages are in full color, and not on cheezy newsprint. The star info/bios are fun, but a little dry, it almost seems like they needed page fillers. When does a new one come out?

  2. This is best crossword puzzle book EVER!!! I recommend it to EVERYONE, and I even say I got it off AMazon.

  3. Liked the puzzler book but pencil or pen marks go through to the back of the page. I have to put a piece of paper on the other side to keep it from bleeding over.

  4. I'd say I'm more of a word search gal than a crossword puzzle girl, but I have always enjoyed the Puzzlers in People magazine. I find them to be of a 'medium' difficulty, and often contain items that I recognize easily. The hardest part for me is to avoid the temptation of peeking in the back when I get stuck (my husband has caught me doing this a few times)! I keep this in the drawer of my bedside table to work on a puzzle or two before going to bed.

  5. I actually don't have this book... I have the new one that they say hasn't been released yet (I got it at wal-mart). Anyways... these books are super fun and they are pretty easy. I like the fact that clues are reused throughout the book, so the more you do the easier it becomes. If you have any knowledge about 'pop culture' then you will be able to do this. Is this the hardest crossword book... NO. But if you're just looking for something fun and easy to do on a slow day then this is perfect.

5 comments about Sudoku: Medium to Hard.
  1. This item is great because it's hardback and has spiral rings which makes it easy to flip over and use. The paperback sudoku's were ripping too easy. I recommend this to anyone.

  2. I buy these for my husband but so many are much too easy. This one gave him a challenge and the book itself is nice to travel with- harder writing surface.

  3. the book is too tiny for me to use. It would fit in a pocket, but there's no room to fill in possibilities, so it's not useful for the way I solve Sudoku.

  4. I'm a beginner Sudoku player, but this little book is a good one. It is small and handy with the spiral spine. I also like that the answers are there, it keeps me interested in continuing when I am stumped on a puzzle. Good value & great fun.

  5. i really liked this one because
    1) it's not big and bulky - an carry it with you and not get bored anywhere (metro/subway, doctor's appointment, airport, whatever)
    2) it's on a spiral - not a book-form, so you don't have to bend the pages to see better. It's easy to write on while holding. and once you're done with both sides, it's easy to rip out. or yo can rip out and just carry and sheet or share with somebody.
    3) as someone who's already done the "easy" levels of sudoku, i really liked that it starts at the medium level and moves up. and no those super hard ones toward the end are not impossible.

5 comments about Will Shortz Presents The Little Black Book of Sudoku: 400 Puzzles (Will Shortz Presents...).
  1. Transaction was quick and I received the book at the time it was estimated to arrive.

  2. This is the third time I have bought this exact book, so that should tell you how much I like it. There are 100 puzzles for each level of difficulty for a total of 400 puzzles. Great quality paper, easy-to-use spiral binder.

  3. I have to say this is a great little book. I love the fact that it is spiral bound, plus the high-quality paper it is written on is great for erasures. I recently ordered about five sudoku books from Amazon and this is, by far, my favorite. Love Will's books.

  4. Nice book of sudoku.
It has 4 sections of 100 puzzles.(levels of challenge).
-Light (serious sudokuers will fisnish in one day)
    -Moderate (Nice n easy )
    -Hard (relaxing)
    -Hardest (brain storm)

The book has a very nice spiral design .
Small and easy to carry. Keeps busy when you are commuting to work ..
It took me 3 weeks to finish on an easy pace.
Best Sudoku book I had so far..

There are 400 puzzles inside but 2 of them are same so you actually get to resolve 399.

  5. There are many ways to find Sudoku puzzles; but, what is unique about this book of puzzles is that it is a spiral notebook. Much easier to open the pages flat to do the puzzles. Other bound books must be held open by one hand while marking with the other. This book lies flat and is much easier to use.

  1. I had so much fun with this book. I cannot wait until the next book of People Jumbo Puzzles comes out. I ordered the first one also, and just starting to work in it. The nice thing is I dont know all the shows, or Ieven all of the people, but I can figure them out with the other clues that surround the ones I don't know.
MAKE SURE YOU USE PENCIL, AS IT IMPRINTS TO THE OTHER SIDE IF YOU USE INK. I DO THE PUZZLE IN PENCIL, BUT WHEN I AM FINISHED WITH THAT PARTICULAR PUZZLE, I CHECK AND CORRECT MY ANSWERS IN INK. KEEPS ME HONEST,
(even thou it is just for me)
