  1. If you can't decide what kind of border to add to your quilt, read this book. It covers borders, from simple pieced to advanced appliqued designs. Find out how to make your borders fit your quilts. Sixteen patterns are included for pieced and appliqued borders. Whether you prefer beautiful floral designs, swags, or a dogtooth edge, these are just some of the designs included in this book.

  2. I really like the patterns included in this book. You can choose simple pieced designs, or some really beautiful appliqued designs for borders.

  3. I really like the patterns included in this book. You can choose from simple pieced designs or beautiful appliqued border designs.

  4. The value in this book is in Chapter 2.

Chapter 1 covers the general steps to creating a quilt. Anyone who has made a quilt will find they already know this information, but beginners might really appreciate it. (There are other books for this information, though.) Chapter 2 is where she gets into borders and it really is a "border primer". She covers every possibility from no border to stretching the design into the border, single & multiple bands, squares, triangles, and appliqued borders. In Chapter 3, she covers scalloped edging, prairie points, piping, and dogtooth edges.

Chapter 4 is the Gallery and Patterns section. As there are only 3 or 4 *pieced* border designs and since this is the lion's share of the book, I was a little disappointed. All the rest (of 17 total patterns) are for applique. Beautiful and varied, but applique is not my thing...yet.

If you're looking for some really nice applique border designs, this is definitely the book for you. Just xerox and go!

  1. Magical Fabric Art a wonderful book for the beginner to expert. Ms. Scarpa walks you through each step and enables you to start your magical project on the most desirable moon and day of the week. Whether your project is 8"x10" or a quilt for your King size bed, this book is packed with the information you need for your work turn into an enhanced magical talisman. She gives the beginner example rituals for dedicating their work as well as explaining candle magic, Chinese ideograms, gemstone use, deities, spells for attracting love, harmony, and protection. On top of all this wonderful information she includes the idea of turning your sewing chest into a workbox of power. Whether the reader is looking for a spell for healing, protection, attracting love or just increasing personal power, Ms. Scarpa has delivered it in this book! I, personally, do not see why one could not adapt her teachings in this book to include modifying and empowering business suits, protection on the hem of a child's shirt, or attraction symbols on your favorite out on the town outfit. Definitely a new way of thinking about ones personal fabric he or she wears daily! Thank you, Ms. Scarpa for sharing your traditions. RosaPearl, psychic/shaman

  2. The title of the book is certainly correct. I love all the projects and one thing that really impressed me about this book is all the information on color, this is another keeper.

  1. If you love to quilt or you're just starting to dabble in quilting. Try to get a copy of this one! This is everything you need all rolled into one. The contents are very helpful and instructional for the novice to the expert in the art. It has faboulous step by step pictures. I think it's like having a private instructor at finger tips.... This is a book you can pass on to future quilters or would make a great gift.

  1. I have a large library of quilting books that I go to for inspiration for projects. Rarely do I follow a pattern step-by-step, and rarely do I find more than a couple patterns from each book that I actually use. This is the exception...

Every project in this book would be a dream to create! I have actually made 8 projects from this book and have ideas for many more that stem from the projects presented!! Whether you want to start a full-scale quilt or just a pretty pillow, this book will have exactly the right project for you. The photos are gorgeous and the directions well-written. I am very pleased with this book. I even bought a second copy--for my mother!

  2. Soy principiante en patchwork y quilting y este libro me es útil porque presenta buenos proyectos fáciles y muy explicados, con algunas ilustraciones y fotos para cada uno.

  1. I am not a beginning quilter, but I do not consider myself experienced yet. Although I usually machine quilt, I used Tonee's book to make a quick wallhanging as a thank you gift. The result was great, and I had a wonderful time. Her ideas can be adapted to many different projects. I have since purchased her Christmas book.
