  1. I love this artist. I have watched him on PBS for years. The book has every detail to help anybody to get started in painting. The pictures of the paintings is very helpful too.

  1. I did not find a lot of useful information in this book. I own all of the rest of Jerry Yarnell's books so perhaps I am spoiled!

  1. While the principles detailed in this booklet are good, the reproduction quality is quite low. It appears to be a 10th generation Xerox copy with low resolution and rough copy. Retypesetting would help this publication a lot.

  1. While this book may be too much for the beginner, it is an excellent guide for those who are intermediate or more experienced textile artists. It is an excellent, step-by-step guide to many different techniques of fabric painting. The authors provide clear, concise instructions and beautiful photos to guide you through each procedure. Tools and equipment are thoroughly described and listed with a list of mail order suppliers at the end of the book. I love this book! I use it on a regular basis for inspiration and reference.

  2. Excellent resource for students studying fabric painting. It discusses how textiles are handled before paints can be applied. Great for art, design, and fashion courses.

  1. this is the best book to learn how to draw horses and learn how to do shading. If you keep practicing, you won't even need to use the book anymore. This book is great for any age!

  2. I would love to obtain any of the numbered Foster "How To Draw" books pertaining to oil painting. Contact me at

  3. A wonderful book with a two-page spread of a gorgeous painting which teaches more about horses than most of the gritty technical stuff can. :) I'm not a big fan of How-To-Draw books, but this one is very good because of the simple, straight-forwardness (and the awesome painting!)

  4. I am really into drawing and I am good at it. However, horses are probably the hardest animals to sketch because of their interesting shape and detail. This book makes it easy to draw all kinds of horses, starting with simple heads, advanced heads, and then progressing to full bodies, getting more challenging but keeping an easy pace as you go. Not to mention tips on keeping porportions straight, and supply suggestions. Now I really want to get "Drawing Dogs" by Walter Foster!

  5. This , like all the Foster books, is simple illustration for anyone beginning to draw, and especially if one is not all that familiar with horses. A good book to familiarize one prior to actually going into the field to draw from live animals.

4 comments about Acrylic Workbook: A Complete Course in 10 Lessons.
  1. This is the best book on beginning acrylic painting that I have run across so far. I've found the exercises challenging but not too difficult. The 10 lessons seem to give the beginner a good grounding in basic concepts of color selection, composition, building the painting, and special techniques. I would highly recommend this book to someone who is interested to beginning to paint but does not have time to take lessons.

  2. I ordered this book through a magazine thinking it would have good step by step instructions. Thank goodness I didn't pay much for it. The acrylic exersizes are all done in a messy watercolor-like style. It looks like something my 2 year old could do. I gave my copy to the goodwill (that was before I discovered reselling online...of course, I wouldn't wish this book on anyone).

  3. Please don't name your book a complete course in 10 lessons if it is not. Only for beginners and remember not a complete course. Only if you don't know anything about painting, it gives very basic knowlege and it should say that is what it does.

  4. This was one of the first books I bought when I just started acrylic painting.

This book introduces the reader to different brushes, textures, effects, etc.

I actually did many of the exercises from this book and they came out pretty good. I enjoyed doing the exercises because a lot of the exercises were easy and precision wasn't really required, which let me just work on the basics of things (shadows, etc.)

I definately wouldn't call this a complete course, but it might be a complete course of the basics of acrylic painting (to get you started). I would recommend this book if you're just starting acrylic painting and want a book that's fairly easy to do the exercises for.

  1. This book was a big disappointment! I always wanted to learn how to draw and paint clouds, so when I saw this book I was really excited. I am a novice in the field of Art and this book was no help whatsoever. It instructs you to perform certain drawing and painting techniques, but it doesn't tell you HOW to do them. This book may be good for someone who has previous experiences in Art, but for a beginner, like me, it's a big waste of time and money. :-(

  2. I found this book to be more than just helpful for painting clouds . It actually takes you through step by step on mixing colors . Also , I found the painting techniques to be easy to understand . This book also shows different types of clouds and explains them in a very simple way . This book not only teaches you how to paint clouds step by step , but is full of color pictures showing beautifully painted sunsets , sunrises , and also has illistrations of different types of cloud formations which i found to be very helpful . This book is great for the beginner as well as profession artist . By far the best art book i have ever seen .

  3. i found this to be very good not just basic but useable and easy to digest money well spent

  4. I had a hard time for years. I have painted on many levels. Yet Clouds and skyscape were hard. This is a simple way for you to step up your game. It's easy to follow and made my craft better.

  5. I have been an artist for over 35 years. I bought this "book" just to see if there was any cloud painting techniques that I could use in my paintings. I hate to say this, but I can paint better clouds and I think almost anyone else could, except maybe the new, first time artist. An then I would tell them to not by this book. The TV show "Joy of Painting" does better at showing now to paint clouds.

  1. I LOVE THIS BOOK! We all want to make the right choice when redecorating. Sunny Goode is very experienced and has put her vast knowledge and creativity into beautiful printed pages and easy-to-follow directions. I have done several faux finishing wall/room projects in the past so most of the "how to" sections were a review or variation on techniques. What I loved was the additional ideas and use of stencils. I'll use this book for years!
