1 comments about Paper Creations: Christmas Origami Book & Gift Set (Paper Creations).
- I did not purchase this book/kit from Amazon, but felt I should give it a review for others. It was on sale at my local B****r's Books after Christmas, and I felt that for $3.00 I couldn't go wrong for the book AND a good supply of paper.
Origami "purists" will probably not like this book much, as many of the figures are made from multiple pieces of paper, some of which have to be cut, slit, trimmed, etc. I did learn one of my favorite origami boxes from it however, named the "Gift Box". What makes this box so unusual to me is that when assembled (from 6 pieces) it looks as if there are ribbons running around the entire box, sealing it up. For the origami folders that like simple, but ornate, this could become a favorite box. If I could post a photo somehow, I would, as I look at the box each morning and smile at it's uniqueness.
So, if my $3.00 only taught me this one box, then I received my money's worth. Other items taught include "Tricolor Gift Box", "Picture Frame", "Pine Tree", "Swan Box", "Santa Claus", "Reindeer" and an "Angel".
My final comment: Buy this one while it is on sale. It is a good deal.

2 comments about Interlocking and 3D Paper Airplanes.
- I've actually become a collector of books on paper airplanes, and at this stage I must have 20 or 30 of them. So I thought I must have seen pretty much everything that was possible in the way of paper airplane design. I was wrong, though - I hadn't seen anything resembling the designs in Teong Hin Tan's book. He's hit on a couple of new, creative ways of using basic folds, to produce models that are beautiful as paper sculpture but that still fly. These designs tend to be a little more complicated than the 'dart' designs you may be used to, but, if you like paper planes, you'll be repaid by the practice you put in with the models in this book. Recommended!
- ...with special features, such as an interlock that makes the plane hold together and 3-D fuselages too! The aesthetic beauty of these models are unprecedented in paper airplane design. Being an origami author myself, I truly appreciate the use of Squash Folds and Inside Reverse Folds to achieve their special nature.

- We borrowed this book from the library, and my 9-year-old son and I have had a blast folding and flying the airplanes. Most of them have taken off with no problems and have proven to be awesome flyers. One or two models have been a bit of a challenge to fold, but we simply started over and tried again!
The instructions in the book are clear and simple -- simple enough for my 9-year-old to fold on his own, as a matter of fact. I recommend practicing the introductory folds in the front of the book in order to prepare yourself for take-off. For paper, we've been recycling old catalogs and magazines and have some very colorful models flying around our house!
We ended up taking this book to a family reunion with us, and all of the kids had a blast folding and flying their airplanes. It was a great way for long lost cousins to spend some time together and get to know each other again!
- I'm not sure why you'd buy this book if you didn't want to fold airplanes!
It's a great book, suitable for beginners, containing excellent airplanes to throw at your siblings and colleagues. The diagrams are easy to follow and everybody should be able to them

5 comments about Puppetry of the Penis: The Ancient Australian Art of Genital Origami.
- Before my mother bought me this book, I was just your average Nordic swedish fellow, with nothing interesting to offer to entice the ladies.
Now... my swedish ... tricks are the talk of the town. EVERYONE KNOWS of "The Swede" now. I'm FAMOUS!
- The most astonishing self-help book ever penned. Having seen the amazing show in London's glittering West End I am flattered that the guys are prepared to share their secrets.
Behind the bike sheds; after the rugby match; under the table - male misbehaviour will never be the same again. A revolution and a revelation. HOORAH! GET KNOTTING!
- Well what can I say about this fabulous book. Before I read this book my life was dull, imcomplete but through this book I discovered that my penis was not an inanimate peice of flesh just hanging there in between my legs but a instument of pleaseure that I can share with many people through the magic of puppetry! It is no longer the dull slip of skin that was but an all singing ,all dancing Marionette of mirth!
I've already been putting on puppet shows for all my friends and family and so far they have been delighted.I would wholeheartedly recommend this book to everyman everywhere.
- While detailed and imaginative, "Puppetry of the Penis: The Ancient Australian Art of Genital Origami", is only the tip of Simon Morley and David Friend's fascinating show of penis-art. This book explores the many different shapes and positions the penis can be temporarily molded into. And thank you Morley and Friend, for rising to the occasion, and putting your penis-art in a book, for the world to see.
Many of these penis-puppets are hard to accomplish without lots of practice. The "Hamburger", "Hot Dog and a Bun", and the "Loch Ness Monster" are among the more challenging puppets to create, but you'll have plenty of fun trying. Don't be ashamed to take matters into your own hands, and buy "Puppetry of the Penis", today!
- This book is just the thing to bring a little genital excitement into your dull, drab, wretched life. It proves beyond a shadow of a foreskin that it is a phallacy that the penis can't be funny. The authors' hilarious exhibit of penis performance art is guaranteed to drive all your inadequacies away. My favorite is the puppet with the pop-up feature. This is one of the funniest and most entertaining books I've ever seen. I'd love to see the show if it ever comes around to my obscure and vanishing corner of America's sexual landscape.

5 comments about Polyhedron Origami for Beginners (Origami Classroom).
- This is hands down the best book about making modular origami polyhedron I have ever encountered (I own about 6 or so books on the topic). The text does an excellent job of presenting three different ways (solid, skeletal, and outline) to make each of the five platonic solids. Towards the end there are also sections about how to make some stellated polyhedron and polygon tiles. Two things make this text wonderful for the beginning folder. Each fold is lucidly diagrammed and includes a well written explanation. The full color text is an added bonus. If you're interested in getting started as a polyhedron folder, this is the best place to begin. Happy folding. :)
- I'm not really an origami fundamentalist, but I prefer modulars that hold together without glue. Miyuki's models are wonderful, but many of them do require glue. I've overcome my aversion and enjoyed them greatly, but you should be aware of the fact that it takes a little more than simple folding for these!
- I was a bit disappointed with this book. I feel that many of the models are "simple looking" and therefore, couldn't figure out what to do with them once I'd folded them. They seemed too simple to put on display anywhere I do, however, really like the star section of the book.
As normal with modular origami, be prepared to fold many units!
If you are not a beginner folder, I recommend Tomoko Fuse's Unit Origami: Multidimensional Transformations over this book.
- We have used many origami books but this is the first that has consistently stayed on the kitchen counter for weeks at a time. We have origami tetrahedrons, dodecahedrons, and tetrahedral skeletons all over the house! My 8 year old son has gone origami crazy, all because of this book. The photos are gorgeous - colorful and full of inspiration. The illustrations are excellent - easy to understand, although some of the more complicated figures did take more than one try. Now we need a good source for bulk origami paper.
My son has tried using different size papers, experimented with variations on the instructions, and deconstructed the tetrahedron to see what folds it creates on the paper. He has discovered that the dodecahedron has 20 sides - it can be made with 10 tetrahedrons, each showing 2 sides out (I think - I haven't spent nearly as much time as he has on this stuff). He is still an early reader and has been able to do many of the designs just by following the illustrations and ignoring the written instructions.
Hands down, a wonderful book. Highly recommended!
- The directions in this book are very clear! It is an exceptional origami pattern book/instruction manual.

2 comments about How to Marbleize Paper: Step-by-Step Instructions for 12 Traditional Patterns (Other Paper Crafts).
- I bought another all-inclusive book on this subject but this book was the (marbled) frosting on the cake.
- Very clear, with instructions to build the tools needed to marbleize and complete list of chemicals and paintings needed. Purposeful.

3 comments about Fun with Folded Fabric Boxes: All No-Sew Projects Fat-Quarter Friendly Elegance in Minutes.
- My daughter an I where doing this technique with a regular square box that we knew how to fold and when we first saw this book we ordered it. We love the ideas and directions are easy enough to follow. Now we have many more styles to make. We love it!
- Wow!! This is a great book. Lots of diagrams and easy to follow instructions. I used this book with my adult education class and everyone was bursting with ideas from it. Try the boxes in paper also. Carol
- I was really anticipating the arrival of this book. I was not disappointed when it finally arrived. The boxes in this book are beautiful. There are many pictures to help you achieve stunning results. As you go through the book, the boxes do get harder, but with some patience you can succeed in making these wonderful little treasures. I would highly recommend this book!

5 comments about Mathematical Origami: Geometrical Shapes by Paper Folding.
- This book was a wonderful guide that helped me understand the relationship between origami and mathamatics. I highly reccomend it!
- A concise and well-written book, with clear diagrams and straightforward instructions, suitable for any beginner in the field. Includes the most well-known mathematical representation
of modular origami. Advanced users might prefer a higher-level book. Includes a list of references for further reading that might be helpful.
- My office generates lots of notices printed on brightly colored paper (usually printed on only one side). This is a great use for scrap paper. I think it is somewhat challenging (highschool level). I completed all but one. (the Decorative Rhombic Dodecahedron).
Americans should note that A4 paper is not the American satandard 8.5" X 11" but it doesn't make any difference for most of the structures. When you get to the Skeletal Cube shave the 8.5 inch dimension to 7.78 inches.
- Although not as fascinating as his PAPER CRYSTALS (a stellar work of modular origami), MATHEMATICAL ORIGAMI is a very solid work on the topic. David Mitchell again gives clear instructions in text and diagrams for a very intriguing branch of paperfolding. There are many books on geometric and modular origami, but Mitchell's are more than just "look at this neat design." Instead, they are well thought out and very intelligently written. A must-have for fans of the art.
- Almost all of the text and diagrams are simple and easy to follow. I was unable to make one of the projects. A few of the illustrations lack definition. This book is easier to use than another similar text by Fuse.
I am an origami beginner.

1 comments about Tea Bag Folding.
- This book is quite charming if you like working small. This book contains instructions on how to make dozens of projects using small squares of paper. Most of the projects require the folding of either 4cm or 5cm squares which is about the size of a tea bag, hence the name.
You can't truly appreciate how lovely these designs are until you make them for yourself. When I first looked at this book I was enthralled with the papers they used. After a brief search on the internet I found kcardinal.freeserve.co.uk/index.htm which has tiles of all of the papers used in this book. I simply copied the images to my desktop and had instant printable squares ready for use (after I cut them out of course.) A search for tea bag folding tiles turned up pages of free, downloadable, printable images for use in tea bag folding. The only downside to this book that I have found is that the instructions could be a bit more detailed. I love origami and have some experience in this area so I was able to figure out where the author was going by looking at the images of what it is supposed to look like and fanagling my way a bit until I got it right. If you don't mind a bit of a challenge the rewards are quite satisfying. If you are new to origami do not be intimidated. I encourage you to make use of the techniques and soon you will be folding like a pro. If you like origami and the intrigue of folding little squares that interlock or glue into a finished design you will enjoy this book. It is great to get the juices flowing and might even spark some ideas of your own!

5 comments about Animal Origami for the Enthusiast: Step-by-Step Instructions in Over 900 Diagrams/25 Original Models (Origami).
- In 1985 I bought this at a book fair when I was 5 years old, and I still think that it is one of the best books on origami out there. The version that I have contains a few confusing instructions (which may have been corrected in later editions), but they can be worked around thanks to the well drawn pictures.
- If you want some wonderful challenging and detailed animal origami to fold, you won't be disappointed with this book! It has quite a few of my favorite models. All the ones pictured on the cover are great...I particularly like the wonderful detail on the frog, with eyes and toes. The lobster is another personal favorite of mine.
- This is a great book, not quite for beginners, though. In this book, you work your way up through the angel fish (easiest) to the lobster (hardest). The book has great step-by-step intructions which helps you create a model with great detail. This is one of the best origami books I've ever gotten and I definatly recommend it if you're really into origami.
- I Remember When I Got The 3 Final Steps On The Lobster. I Got so Into Origami That I Started Making Lobsters, Crabs And Cranes During School! I Have Loved Origami ever Since I Was 9 Years Old. This Book Was A Little Easy For Me, But For People That Can Only Make Cranes, Tigers, Paper Cups and other Easy Things. This Book is A Little Over Your Head.
- This is easily my favorite book on origami. All the diagrams are clear, the models are very detailed, and more importantly, all of them are an awful lot of fun to make, and very rewarding. While it has models from the whole range of difficulty levels, it focuses primarily on the advanced folder.
A little bit of history- my parents bought me this book about 15 years ago, I couldn't have been more than 8 at the time. I had dabbled a little bit in origami before then, but this is the book that got me hooked. I still have that copy, ragged at the edges, pages falling out, but still as fulfulling as it always was. I just can't stop singing the praises of this book- it's that good.
