- Well, this is a really tough one to rate: The models warrant 5 stars, while the presentation is more like 1 star... I've ended up giving it 3 stars because the models are really more important to me - even if I have to muddle through the diagrams for a long time.
Here's what to expect before you try tracking this book down: First off, DON'T get this book if you're a beginner or if you're buying for a beginner! Anyone who's not a pretty advanced folder will only end up thoroughly frustrated, no matter how much he or she likes the topic of the book. That's not so much because of the complexity of the models (although some of them are definitely at a high-intermediate level) but because of the diagrams. Errors and inaccuracies abound, sometimes even stumping the most experienced of folders. On top of that, the photos are mostly pretty horrible, so much so that I've heard from others who haven't been inspired to fold from this book at all. And that's really too bad! The 15 models included are very nice, it's just hard to actually complete them using the diagrams provided... Just to give you a taste of the quality of the models: Among the authors who have contributed their models are Robert Lang, Gabriel Alvarez (featuring a great Daedalus!), Neal Elias, Robert Neal and Marc Kirschenbaum. So, if you're an advanced folder, by all means, try to track down a copy of this small book, but be prepared to be frustrated by the diagrams nonetheless. Otherwise, I'm sorry to say you'll be better off with a different book (say by John Montroll or Robert Lang).
- I kike this book very much. You can find in this books almost the most famous mythical beings. Althought the diagrams are not very clear, I think we can manage them. The models are excellent. they look lively and wonderfull. I especailly like the Cerberus, Pegasus and Shiva. These models are best folded ever. Have this books!

5 comments about Origami Page-A-Day 2004 Calendar.
- my son enjoys creating this little origami's (origami ?) each day, the only down side is he never wants to throw any of his creations away !!
- It's a great calendar idea.
Instead of just looking at another silly cartoon every morning, I get to fold a little origami creation. And the best thing is I don't even have to buy the paper, because I can use "yesterday's" calendar page. In other words I take Monday and fold it according to Tueday's instruction. (and that is the only problem, because you "loose" Monday's instructions in the process, so consider buying two calendars if you want to save the instructions). The diagrams range from easy to challenging and I love the new colors and patterns on the back of the pages. And you can't get more origami models for so little money anywhere else.
- I just bought this calendar for this calendar and couldn't resist making some of the models immediately. Luckily I had some extra origami paper lying around the house. You don't need the extra paper, as someone else has said, you use the paper from the day before, but by doing this you lose the directions, and since I was jumping around days I didn't want to pull out papers months before I'm supposed to get there. Like the $2 suit which come on June 14 and 15. I just couldn't wait. Of course with that one I used money. One downside to this calendar is that it uses one page for both Saturday and Sunday so you only get to do one project on the weekends. So sad. Also on a few days it tells you some facts or some history of origami which are interesting but take away from more projects. It has easy to understand directions and comes with a fold out sheet with symbols and those starter diagram things (I don't know the real name for them). This is a must have even if you already have a calendar for the year.
- I'm a big fan of origami, so I was really looking forward to using my calendar. It really does have a huge variety of fun things to fold. However, the pages (on my copy of the calendar, at least) aren't exactly square. They come very close (mine are less than 1/16" off) but this difference is enough to make folding difficult if you're trying to be precise. So I'm rather disappointed by that. But if it doesn't bother you that the models probably won't be perfect due to this, then this is a great calendar.
- The pages of my calendar are not square. They measure 145mm X 147mm. 2mm might not sound like a lot but it makes a big difference in the final product. This product is likely to turn beginners against origami. It is like trying to teach someone guitar on an instrument that is out of tune. The end product will never be good and the student will become frustrated.
