5 comments about Origami Page-A-Day 2004 Calendar.
  1. my son enjoys creating this little origami's (origami ?) each day, the only down side is he never wants to throw any of his creations away !!

  2. It's a great calendar idea.

Instead of just looking at another silly cartoon every morning, I get to fold a little origami creation. And the best thing is I don't even have to buy the paper, because I can use "yesterday's" calendar page. In other words I take Monday and fold it according to Tueday's instruction. (and that is the only problem, because you "loose" Monday's instructions in the process, so consider buying two calendars if you want to save the instructions).

The diagrams range from easy to challenging and I love the new colors and patterns on the back of the pages. And you can't get more origami models for so little money anywhere else.

  3. I just bought this calendar for this calendar and couldn't resist making some of the models immediately. Luckily I had some extra origami paper lying around the house. You don't need the extra paper, as someone else has said, you use the paper from the day before, but by doing this you lose the directions, and since I was jumping around days I didn't want to pull out papers months before I'm supposed to get there. Like the $2 suit which come on June 14 and 15. I just couldn't wait. Of course with that one I used money. One downside to this calendar is that it uses one page for both Saturday and Sunday so you only get to do one project on the weekends. So sad. Also on a few days it tells you some facts or some history of origami which are interesting but take away from more projects. It has easy to understand directions and comes with a fold out sheet with symbols and those starter diagram things (I don't know the real name for them). This is a must have even if you already have a calendar for the year.

  4. I'm a big fan of origami, so I was really looking forward to using my calendar. It really does have a huge variety of fun things to fold. However, the pages (on my copy of the calendar, at least) aren't exactly square. They come very close (mine are less than 1/16" off) but this difference is enough to make folding difficult if you're trying to be precise. So I'm rather disappointed by that. But if it doesn't bother you that the models probably won't be perfect due to this, then this is a great calendar.

  5. The pages of my calendar are not square. They measure 145mm X 147mm. 2mm might not sound like a lot but it makes a big difference in the final product. This product is likely to turn beginners against origami. It is like trying to teach someone guitar on an instrument that is out of tune. The end product will never be good and the student will become frustrated.

  1. I purchased this for my 10 year old daughter, and I was disappointed with the unclear instructions. I couldn't even follow them myself.

  1. Origami For Playtime by Satoshi Takagi (formerly the Director of the Japan Origami Association), uses bright colors and clear, easy-to-follow diagrams and instructions to teach young readers of all ages and cultural backgrounds the simple Japanese art of folding paper to create beautiful creatures and shapes for fun and enjoyment. Each one or two-page spread demonstrates how to make a different paper creature or thing, from a jumping frog to a flying airplane to a spiral shell and much more. A delightful introduction to this wonderful hobby, Origami For Playtime will prove a popular addition to personal, school, and community "do-it-yourself" crafts projects reference shelves.

  2. The book is full of bright ideas. However, I would not recommend it for the people who just start doing origami. The author sometimes skips a step so it is very confusing. I left some projects unfinished.

  3. I bought this book for my 5 year old and my friends' kids.
We're very exciting to try any of them, but the instruction is difficult to
follow even for me as an adult. And you have to buy your own origami paper too.

  1. These are beginning and low-intermediate folds. The instructions are alright and the colored pages add to the books appeal. I was a bit disappointed though since I was hoping for a more exhaustive collection.

  2. To begin with, as a person familiar with the works of Toshie Takahama and admire it, there is nothing "complete" about the book.

There are a lot of colourful models within and this book is definitely not among her best.

The models represents what used to be typically Japanese origami style, simple to fold, effective enough to be recognised. Of course not to mention, packaged in a colourful and attractive manner.

Would be a good book for beginners and a present for a kid.

  1. This is an excellent book that provides an arrangement of different origami, from flowers to aircrafts to animals. It has easy-to-follow illustrations AND they provide you with origami paper, a pleasant surprise! I highly recommend this book if you are starting to learn origami and if you're looking for an easy, simple book.
