5 comments about Origami with Dollar Bills: Another Way to Impress People with Your Money!.
- A better way to give kids money than just handing them a bill. Plus you get a history and fact to repeat while folding. Makes you look like you know what money is all about.
- This is a cute little book, but I was disappointed because it contains only 15 figures to make with dollar bills -- five using one dollar bill, seven using two, and three using three bills. Also, I don't consider most of the figures to be interesting ones or anything that most people will recognize upon seeing them. The figures are: eagle, eel, European dragon, fruit bat, horseshoe crab, Jedi, Klingon bird of prey, Oriental dragon, Phoenix, Roger's Rabbit, scorpion, sea lion, squid, tiger shark and vampire bat. Nevertheless, I set out to make every figure -- only to find that steps were missing from the instructions and photos, and I couldn't figure out how to get from here to there on several of the figures. After several failures I ended up giving up in frustration!
There is a bonus included -- approximately every 12-14 pages there is a 2-page spread of "fun facts about dollar bills."
- This is not what you would call a "bad" book, it is just one that did not live up to my expectations. The author gives us around 15 folding projects with a single dollar, a number of projects with multiple bills. I was looking for a book with only single bill folds. Some of the designs are cute, some not so cute. The directions are easy to follow though which is a plus and it is quite easy to teach the young ones the more simple folds. I must admit that the children were much more fascinated with this book than I was. The cost of the book though is reasonable and you probably will not be wasting your money in the purchase. Overall, an okay book, but I would have appreciated a bit more.
- Not as good as I thought it would be. Too difficult for a beginner. Thought it would be a good gift for children, but more for adults.
- Origami With Dollar Bills is a spiral bound book that will help you beat inflation by using the dollar bills in your wallet for something useful and decorative that will amaze your family and friends. If it had a few more designs, I would have added another star, but what the hey -- it's a cheap book and not a bad value at all.
So, even though the dollar bills won't get you much at the gas pump or supermarket, it can now become a bunny rabbit, vampire bat, shark, dragon and more. There are 15 objets to fold in all.
Now, that's getting your money's worth!

5 comments about How to Make a Towel Monkey and other Cruise Ship Favorites.
- I picked this up to surprise my wife every morning ! Makes her feel like she's on holidays every day. She looks forward to jumping in the shower every day just to see what critter awaits her that day. Only reason I rated a little lower was due to the fact the illustrations are a bit vague. But a great book just the same.
- When I got this book it looked like some unprofessional company had made it. The book was bound only by sprial and the pictures were not in color. I would recommend not getting this book unless you really want to spend the money. The Lost Art of towel folding was a far better purchase.
- I agree with other reviewers about the homemade quality of the book. The book itself was VERY thin and not what I expected for the $14+ spent on it. It's NOT the worst book on towel origami but not the best either. I'd place it somewhere in the middle. The author does explain things well so I have to give her some credit for that. Think the main disappointment was the thin and homemade quality of it. Wasn't the best first impression when I opened the box. I still find learning towel origami by the DVDs on the market the easier way to go. Looking at photos or illustrations in a book with a lot of text doesn't do it for me when learning the visual art of towel origami. I need to see it in action.
- after studying the book, things began to get alot easier to do. really enjoyed the book
- I think this book was written in a decent fashion. I bought it as a gift for my sister before we went on our Alaskan cruise. The directions and visuals were pretty good. However, the "book" does look like it was hand-made and it definitely wasn't worth the money. This "book" cost WAY too much. It wasn't worth it!

5 comments about Origami Flowers: Popular Blossoms and Creative Bouquets.
- Well, I shouldve done more research on this book, but I don't like it because it requires too many other things to be used other than oragami paper. And sometimes the images of the pictures didnt seem very accurate, so i got confused a lot.
- It is refreshing to look at the reviews and find that others have had the same frustrations with this book as I have. Yes, I agree the color photographs are absolutely beautiful and inspiring. They sure suck you in and are a powerful tool to entice you into buying the book. The artist is wonderfully creative with her use of the pentagon, hexigon and out-of-the-mainstreem starting shapes which makes this book so unique.
It is definitely NOT for the beginner. The first flower I tried was the pansy. I have been a paper sculptress for years. I love origami, tea bag folding and just about anything having to do with paper. I had to seek the help of my Mensa member father in order to get this one right! I was ready to hold a book burning party and roast marshmallows over this one!
If you do not use a thin enough paper you will have problems with some of the folding. Some areas get folded so many times that the piece becomes almost too thick to fold and I was using plain old printer paper.
If you love a challenge, go for it! I certainly do not regret buying this book and I still pick it up from time to time just to see if my mind is more open to the techniques it presents. Hats off to those who found the instructions "easy to follow." I certainly was not one of them. If you need a reason to slit your wrists I highly recommend this book (hehehehehe - just kidding). Good luck!
- The featured flowers are beautiful, but be forwarned: the process involves much more beyond folding. Scissors, glue... that's a given in almost all the patterns. For some, that's not pure origami, more paper craft. In addition, there are a few missing steps in some of the instructions. In fact, for 2 of the flowers, there seems to be chunks of instructions missing. Other than that, the usual project takes about 30-40 minutes for an intermediate paper crafter.
- Origami flowers is a FANTASTIC book, but it is not for the novice, or for one that does not want to spend some quality time constructing the flowers. The flowers do in fact look like the real ones, but they are complicated. One flower took me several hours to complete. I would say this is a book for the advanced-intermediate to advanced origami artist.
Beautiful flowers though!
- I agree with some of the other reviewers- this is a great book for someone experienced- the diagrams are very easy to follow, the folds come out looking great, and so on. I highly recommend it. However- if you're just starting out, I think a lot of the folds are a little tricky and might not come out right. Definitely not a book for an absolute beginner, but otherwise it's a fantastic book- I loved it.

5 comments about Origami Design Secrets: Mathematical Methods for an Ancient Art.
- Dr. Lang delves into the hows and whys of origami design exploring origami the way Alton Brown explores food and cooking.
The instructions for creating beautifully made koi decorating the cover are not included in their entirety, notably excluding the sequence for creating the scales. Instead, Lang describes the principles and techniques for creating textures on paper, leaving the creation of the fish as an exercise for the reader.
If you're looking for a recipe book for cool origami designs, then this is not the book for you. Rather, this book is for anyone curious about just how the heck someone makes a cuckoo clock out of one uncut sheet of paper.
- This book is a MUST HAVE for the origami enthusiast - it begins with excellent coverage of the basics and each chapter builds on the last. When you finish this book, you'll be able to fold anything, except maybe time and space ;-)
- This book is amazing, if a little daunting. It will take some time but I hope to be creating my own patterns some day. Happy folding!
- This is a must have book for origami designer as well as folder.
Robert J. Lang is obviously a great author.
The delivery of Amazon is faster than I experted.
The book was in good condition when I received it.
- Book is in excellent shape, is full of awesome information, arrived very quickly and overall, I'm psyched. THanks.

5 comments about The Guide to Hawaiian-Style Money Folds.
- This book offered many unique designs that i have not seen before. It has 15 money folds and a section on envelopes and boxes. This book will tend to be hard for the beginner. I have done a few money folds and some of the pictures of the directions are hard to figure out whats going on. The pictures just need more detail. There is a lot of cool things in this book though, i really enjoy it!
- This is a great book. Have learned several of these already and am eager to learn and teach even more. Great way to pass time while waiting any= where.
- My teenager loves oragami so I thought he might like this book. He did. You need fresh NEW money though or the folds won't hold right. Lots of cute designs inside.
- I really like all the designs that are included in the book. Out of the 15 different designs I managed to only figure out how to do 5 of the designs. Some of the instructions and illustrations were not very clear in my point of view. I really love all the flower designs, but I was only able to figure out two out of the three. Of course, it was the most beautiful design that I was not able to figure out. Although, I was more experienced with origami folding than my husband, I had to asked him to try to analyzed the instructions since he is a physicist and a mathematician. He managed to help me figure out two of five designs that I was able to create. This book needs a bit more clearer instructions and should use more color to help with the illustrations. Think very hard before buying this book because you might not get all your money's worth if you can only learn how to create very few designs from it.
- This is by far the best $ fold book I own. The directions are great and the ideas are very different. Even the difficult folds are explained pretty well. The book also shows how to do some regular paper folds like boxes etc. Awesome book & a great place to start for beginers!!!

3 comments about Large Origami Paper : 24 9" X 9" Sheets in 12 Colors.
- I received my paper and ripped open the pack so I could start folding. I was immediately disappointed by the selection of colors. The colors themselves are good enough, however they are boring. They make your creations uninteresting and drab. I prefer patterned color paper. The paper performs well and I recommend this paper for practicing because if you mess up you didn't lose all that much.
- This paper is bigger than I thought it whoud be.The colors are good.
- This is a pretty standard set of origami paper, no special bells or whistles, but the large size makes it suitable for very intricate, complex models with many tiny folds. It is also good for beginners who are still learning the art of origami. A word of caution: the dye on the red paper and the other deep colors tends to rub off while you're folding.

5 comments about Origami Jewelry: More Than 40Exquisite Designs to Fold and Wear.
- Origami Jewelry: More Than 40 Exquisite Designs to Fold and Wear Very nice presentation. Instructions and diagrams are fairly easy to understand. The pictures of the finished fold are nicely shown. I've been doing origami for 30 yrs and never thought of making jewelry. You always learn new things.
- I am relatively new to Origami so I found this book a welcome addition to the library, it covers the obligatory choosing of papers, tools to use and importantly for newbies a good solid instructional section on the "basic folds". The jewellery created was quiet nice, a little kitsch for my personal taste, but easily accomplished with a bit of practice.
The big thing for me though came with Metal Clay "paper", I am primarily a jewellery artist and use Metal clay a lot, I love the product of silver sheet clay or paper clay as some people call it as I can fold this like paper in origami styles and then fire it to produce minature fine silver jewellery. Good ideas in the book for me to transfer to silver replicas.
The diagrams were clear, easy to understand and photographed well. Thank you Ayako for a good book.
- As someone who is a novice I found this book relatively easy to follow. I have been doing origami for a long time, but I am not consistent with it. It is something I love and I know basics, but not something I am constantly working to excel at, even though I wish I had the time to. With a stressful job I needed an outlet and so have taken origami up again to relax and have a creative outlet. I saw this book and thought, wow how cool. I really want to try this. I am more than happy with my impulse purchase. The pictures are clear and concise. She gives you all the basic folds in the front so you don't have to go looking in other materials for them. The author also allows your creative juices to flow. She shows many different project pictures with the same origami shape. This allowed me to take her projects one step further and really make them my own. I have never made jewelry before (other than macaroni necklaces in kindergarten) and she details all the tools and materials you need. Really, if this peeks your interest, the take the plunge and buy it. You won't be disappointed.
- I ordered this book without high hopes and was pleasantly surprised. Finally, an origami jewelry book that goes through the process step by step with clear photos as a guide. All the questions I had regarding origami jewelry making were answered. In the past, much of my paper jewelry making was based on guesswork.
- What a creative and practical book! I love origami and have incorporated it into my card making, gift wrapping, decorating, and table setting for years. However, I had never made jewelry with it. The techniques in the book have opened a whole new area of possiblilites for me.

5 comments about Origami to Astonish and Amuse.
- This has to be the definitive book on really incredible origami. If you are a beginner, there are a few models in it you can do, but much of the content is fairly difficult, even for the experienced origami craftsperson. There are a number of models made from dollar bills, which is what I was looking for. What I didn't expect was the encyclopedic nature of the models. There is something there for everyone. The author has a pretty quirky sense of humor that one may or may not appreciate. He is definitely an artist in every sense of the word.
- This is one of the best books in my origami collection. The models are unique - buying this book is not another case of getting only 10% new models - they are all new and strangely enough, amusing!
I love that some of the models offer a lot of challenge, whereas others are easy to fold (you should see my invisible duck!)
Defiantly a book that should be in every origami enthusiasts collection.
- Truly astonishing and positively amusing. A fabulous use of an ancient technique. Pushing the limits to new heights.
- I love the sense of humor in Jeremy Shafer's creations. There's a nice range of models in here, from moderately accessible ones to the very difficult. When I got frustrated with one model, I put it down and just enjoyed reading the book. Jeremy's lighthearted jokes interspersed through the models made it fun.
- Origami to Astonish and Amuse is Jeremy Shafer's first and only book so far (as far as I know).
The models vary from the simple baby bird to the complex eight interlocking rings. There is even a model that is made from a t-shirt! It has clear and sometimes humorous diagrams and has a black and white picture for each model. Many of the models are action models and a few used for magic tricks. It also has crease patterns for models like the Flasher Supreme, Flasher Marble Maze, Dromenon Labyrinth, Walker, and even the famous Flasher Big Bang! It is really worth buying the book. Beginners and experts will enjoy folding the models in this great book. It is definitely 5 stars!!!
