1. this is the book that taught me to knit....for some reason, the author has a great ability to explain knitting to the beginner and the projects are interesting enough to encourage the beginner....while there are no instructions for increase or decrease, she puts you so much at ease that your appetite is whetted to go looking for more......she also has a crochet book that managed to stop the crochet mental block that plagued me for years.......both of jessie rubenstone's books opened the knitting and now crochet floodgates for me when no other book could



2. This is the first book I used, which I borrowed from the public library. I had a friend teach me how to knit and purl, but I don't remember sequences very easily and found this book to be incredibly helpful that first few nights in reminding me how to knit, cast, purl on, etc. The sequence of photographs for the steps of knitting, etc. are logical and easy to follow.
   
   There are also some really basic projects where you can knit a blanket, scarf, belt, hats and learn how to make pompoms and a strap for a bag. This is a great book if you are planning to teach someone else how to knit for a short time and just want to get a tiny book that's not too expensive that will demonstrate the basics of knitting, purling, casting on and binding off.

1. 20 projects in a box. Each project in its own sturdy leaflet which is fine to carry around but then you run the risk of losing it. Instructions are well written with good schematic. Yarns used are also practical, inexpensive and easy to find (if you're in America). Sacque and tam, summer top and pants, 4 afghans, overalls and tee, christening dress, lacy bonnet and booties, carriage robe, pullover with pocket (buttons in back),cardigan with hood, tie-on sacque (very appealing), hat and mittens, sock booties and cap, play dress, 2 cardigans, hat and booties, hoodie pullover. Except for the playdress can be knit for baby boy or girl. All yarns have their number given in the standard system so easy enough to substitute them. No additional set of beginner instructions on how to knit so this is aimed for the knitter who already knows all of that.
