2 comments about Fabulous Turned-Wood Projects.
- This book was a purchase I dont regret, but it could be better. While it has wonderful ideas and great pictures, the project instructions it gives could be more detailed with pictures that illustrate every step. There are a few projects in there, that are mostly detailed with text, and if you cant picture what they are saying, then the project becomes very difficult to accomplish. Like I said, I dont regret my purchase of this book, but it could have been done better.
- I've discovered that woodturning books for beginners distinguish themselves from other topics by the immense number of step-by-step pictures within their covers. This book does the same thing but with a difference. It presumes you can do some basic turning. Consequently, it doesn't have the same number of pictures per project focused on documenting every small step. It demonstrates larger intervals. Where this book sets itself apart from the other dozen I own is that it shows, in detail, how to put together different woods to create the most amazing designs in the projects you turn. The photos are much smaller than some of the other books and these authors have crammed a huge pile into 96 pages. If the photos had been the size used in many other titles, this publication would have doubled in size. From my perspective, "Fabulous Turned-Wood Projects" bridges the gap for beginners allowing them to see behind the curtain and discover the "magic" steps that result in stunning outcomes by clearly demonstrating how to assemble the pieces of wood in ways you might not think of for another three years! We plan on working through all of the projects!

2 comments about Popular Mechanics MoneySmart Makeovers: Bathrooms (Popular Mechanics Money Smart Makeovers).
- This is a well-written book that clearly explains what's involved in a bathroom makeover and what constitutes an economy, mid-range and high-end makeover. There are projects for bathroom redo's including installing ceramic tile and other flooring; removing and installing a vanity and pedestal sinks; installing tub surrounds, lighting, vent fans and countertops; building a glass block wall and window and more.
The projects are well illustrated and the explanations are clear and easy-to-follow. Not only does the book contain clear pictures and good projects, but it also includes information about each element in the bathroom. For example, on page 29, the page is devoted to sink materials and discusses the pros and cons of all kinds of sinks even cast iron and glass. Reading the book and looking at the photo steps makes the bathroom makeover projects seem possible as a Do-It-Yourselfer.
Great book, well written and photographed. Definitely recommended.
- Save you time and money. You can find more info on the internet for free. This book does not have anything to teach you. Save a tree let this book die.

1 comments about Journeys Home: Revealing a Zuni-Appalachia Collaboration.
- Collaboratively compiled and edited by Dudley Cocke, Donna Porterfield, and Edward Wemytewa, Journeys Home: Revealing A Zuni-Appalachia Collaboration is the story of a bilingual play created through a sixteen-year collaboration between Zuni and non-Native American Appalachian cultures. The play itself, a wealth of information about dialect, lore, motives, and historical background, and is enhanced with an audio CD make Journeys Home a unique contribution to contemporary Native American Studies reference collections, and a cultural blend celebration and not to be missed!

5 comments about The Home Electronics Survival Guide: The Simple Guide to Understanding, Hooking Up and Buying TVs, HDTVs, DVDs, Home Theater, Remote Controls and More!.
- I love this book! There are several things about it that I really like. First, it is full of wonderful cartoons by the author that make the book really fun. The thing I like most, though, is that it is full of photos of actual cables, plugs, backs of tvs, etc. so when I want to really understand something, I have a visual reference. Now I don't have to go to Radio Shack and call a cable a "thingy." The biggest problem is knowing what you want to know and this book solves that problem.
- I've spent too many years having to mash my hair back down after giving myself one electrical shock after another trying to hook stuff together. Finally--there's a practical guide to the maze of what plugs in where and in what order, and this book is not only practical but a lot of fun, too. Most instruction manuals that come with home electronics might as well be written in Sanskrit or Klingon, and the TV manual never talks to the VCR manual or the DVR manual. This book connects everything by showing us how to connect everything. It's a welcome relief, and I no longer glow in the dark.
- Finally, a very useful book on consumer electronics written in plain English. This book covers it all - from understanding the technologies and confusing terms, to selecting the right components you need, to choosing a good salesperson, and how to connect it all together so it actually works. Even if you choose to have someone else put your system together, this book is a great resource to help guide you through all the TLAs (Three Letter Acronynms) that the industry loves to invent to confuse their customers. Get two copies of this book and give one as a gift to someone who is overwhelmed at all the confusion on the market.
- It is a good book for beginners without electronic background.
- Helped a little, but did not give me enough info to hook up my LCD TV. I got it hooked up by a mixture of thinking a lot and trial and error.
The book does give a good basic discussion of modern TV systems. I forgot what I paid, but it's worth a few books just to get this discussion and the illustrations, but it won't get you to the Promised Land by itself!!
