  1. The book is very good. However, I am not so sure if some of the
foliage and flowers used will last for 2-3 days.

  2. This is a great book for people who are new to flower arranging.

  3. I was in Heaven through the fresh flower chapters, and then... I was descending to Hell through the dried flower chapters. My math counted 90 pages of Heaven and 54 pages of Hell.

  4. When you've been in this business for a while, the floral design business that is, nothing really shocks you anymore.

This is a decent coffee table book, nice pictures but nothing more really. It can not teach you anything, it can not give any ideas that you haven't already seen somewhere else.

  5. enjoyed book was very helpful just wished for more information. Seemed a little outdated and reasources limited.

  1. This is definitely a 'must have' book for your beekeeping library. Avitabile and Sammataro completed an exhaustive work that is worthy as a reference book for years to come, or as an information source for folks looking to start keeping bees. Highly recommended.

  2. I like this book quite a-lot. I recommend it over BeeKeeping for Dummies. Well written, nice pictures, simple style.

  3. This book gives you all the pratical information you need and also has some good artwork and pictures, most books show images that are hard to see, but this one has nice large images

  4. It may be a matter of personal taste but this is the first book on this topic which gives me a feeling of being able to access bee-keeping. It seems to strip away the lore and mystery which have always accompanied bee-keeping. For the record I have yet execute the plan to acquire bees for honey. At least this books makes me feel more like it is something I can do.

  5. Excellent reference material written for all levels. Would recommend to anyone thinking about getting started in this facinating "hobby".

  1. My hubby requested this book for his 55th birthday and really enjoys it.As soon as he's done with his current remodeling project,he'll probably start on a project from this book.

  2. I found a lot of interesting things in this book. I think it is a great reference for any parent that has boys and enjoys spending time with them with projects that capture their attention and curiosity.

  3. This is an interesting read if you enjoy old books and are a do-it-yourself type person, but it's not good if you are hoping for some old type projects to do. The articles don't seem to be quite detailed enough to actually build most of the items and a lot of the projects are simply lame. No "boy mechanic" would be interested in doing a lot of these today. I guess some people were more easily entertained back then.

  4. As a kid my dad gave am Popular Mechanics compilation from the 30's. They had projects that were amazing and challenging. My dad and I a ball building stuff out of this old book. This is the same sort of book.

  5. If you are looking for a book of small projects to do with kids, find something else!!! The copyright says 2006, but maybe it should be 1906. It is certainly not what I expected. While most projects have a diagram to help you out, the instructions are a little sketchy. We were looking more for small projects a kid and his dad could build together, not "safety chopping block", "self-closing gate","attachment for glasses aids marksman", or "webfoot attachment for swimmers". I'm NOT joking...it's in the book! I do recomment "101 Activities for kids in tight spaces". It's a little less crafty, but quite creative.

  1. Your service was superb. Never have had such attentive help, ordering an item. The CD is super. Thank you for caring enough to send an inquiry. francespatterson@Bellsouth.net Yes, I am w-a-a-y over 13. How about 70 years old!!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. I have only tried a few of the recipes but they have been very good. I am looking forward to the rest of them

  3. So many great recipes for everyday items. Lots of bread recipes, and sauces, it helps so much.

  4. This book is extraordinary. It is so unique, complete and really a great help in many ways in your everyday menus. I firmly recommend it to the ones that have high-blood pressure problems or simply if you are on a diet. Salt is the basic problem of why people don't reduce weight today. Think it firmly, start with this book and see marvelous results in your life. The tool is available to you, so no more excuses. Start NOW!

  5. This cookbook provides recipes for everyday food that doesn't rely on hard to find products. We are eating good meals and not missing salt like we thought we would. We even feel comfortable inviting guests to share dinner.

  1. This is an excellent book for anyone who is studying History of Costume, or who is interested in making the costumes. The book gives detailed sewing instructions with pictures. I've been sewing for over 50 years. I like the book just for my collection of sewing books. EXCELLENT!!

  2. I purchased this book for my wife, who enjoys sewing Renaissance English and Italian costumes. (Wife) I found this book very enjoyable to read, as far as the history of English costuming, patterns included, how to directions on sewing the pieces and trim, and detailed info. on why each piece was worm. I definitely recommend this book for anyone interested in sewing English costumes, as well as those that would like to learn more about the history of English clothing and culture.

  3. If you are looking for a great book about Tudor clothing it doesn't get any better than this book. The illustrations and the patterns are really wonderful. I love this book.

  4. Wonderful. Book arrived on time in excellent condition. Is a wonderful asset to my classroom and library.

  5. I didn't like the way this book was laid out, but there were some good tips for the Ren Faire costume maker.

  1. This book has fantastic how to diagrams as well as projects! It provides a history of crocheting that really adds. I bought this book for my daughter for Christmas, and after looking through it with her, I had to have one for myself. Great author, great book, great choice.

  2. I'm a international student in usa which means I have some problem with crochet pattern. This book is very helpful because it has symbol and picture to show how to do it. Since I have a basic crochet , I can easily follow instruction . recommand for a beginner!!

  3. I've made two of the philosopher's coats in different color palettes, and it was challenging and fun and great! Note to advanced crocheters: the directions are somewhat limited. I guess she figures that if you get to this stage, you don't need everything spelled out. I've had a ton of compliments on both coats. The other patterns are fine, but this was the reason I bought the book. Don't be intimidated! You'll love the challenge of it, and when you're done, you know you've created something very special.

  4. This book is a must have resource for the crochet enthusiast! Patterns are always nice to have but what I like the most are the detailed how-to's and the stitch encyclopedia in the back. Donna Kooler provides all of the information you need to create your own design with the stitches, beginning counts, repeats, et cetera. I would recommend this to anyone interested in expanding or even just entering the world of crochet.

  5. I bought this to replace a copy I owned that was destroyed in this year's flooding. It's a great reference book, with clear instructions and pictures.

  1. I don't fall in love with books easily, but this one was love at first sight for me. The photos were clear. The ideas and instructions simple and easy to follow. I borrowed a copy from the public library, now I want my own.

  2. The fabrics and patterns in this book are lovely. Photographic representation of all the projects are clear and wonderfully presented. The instructions seem clear (except I did find an important step for one of the handbags was omitted).

I give it 4 stars instead of 5 mainly because it contains templates that have to be enlarged on a copier instead of full-size patterns. It appears that is typical with sewing books, but it is an inconvenience and requires a trip to a copy store (plus the cost) since they need to be enlarged to such a degree, you cannot do it on a regular copier without great difficulty.

Fortunately there are only a few projects in this book that have templates - most of the crafts are going to be custom sized by you to fit your bed, chair, windows, etc, so templates would not be feasible.

However, I do recommend this book. I am happy to have it and I do not regret purchasing it. Christina Strutt's designs are sweet and warm and this book is a welcome addition to my collection.

  3. The pictures are nice , the fabric & the way it presents the instructions too.
That is all to it. Nothing more.

  4. Excellent book! Christina Strutt had my tastes in mind when she wrote this book. It is for people who don't know much about sewing, love vintage fabrics and want to learn some ideas on how to use them. The pictures are beautiful and the instructions are clear.

  5. I really love this book - simple but rewarding projects that most sewers would have no trouble with. lovely photography.

5 comments about Shear Spirit: Ten Fiber Farms, Twenty Patterns, and Miles of Yarn.
  1. This book is beautiful to look at and informative to read. This is not primarily a knitting pattern book, but a book about sheep and wool. The photos are gorgeous and the stories are about families and animals and farms--compelling and enjoyable for anyone who enjoys fiber arts and anyone who sometimes feels like chucking everything and going to a farm somewhere to raise alpacas.

  2. Almost every knitter and spinner I know has dreamed of having a hobby farm with sheep of their very own. This book tells stories of those lucky ducks who get to live the life we imagine. It tells of the romance (skirting a fleece with a glass of wine *sigh*) but also tells what an incredible amount of work these people go through to get us our pretty yarn.

The photography is gorgeous. Drooly gorgeous.

  3. This book was very much what I expected. It is meant to be more of an inspirational coffee table book than a how-to. As a handspinner, I almost wish that some of the projects were geared towards handspinners with instructions on how to make the yarn for the particular project rather than requiring the millspun yarn that the book gives (although I do understand that the people whom the book covers also want to sell their products). Overall, a beautiful and enjoyable book.

  4. Great pictures and interesting storiesShear Spirit: Ten Fiber Farms, Twenty Patterns, and Miles of Yarn
I also found a perfect sweater pattern I was looking for from one of the featured farms.

  5. Wonderful book, a must have for any knitter/yarn lover. Beautiful pictures along with great stories from the people and animals who bring us the yarn and fiber products we love so much. Very diverse, this book features fiber farms from around the country, no two are alike. Plus this book has patterns! Who could ask for more?

5 comments about The Big Picture... Scrapbook Your Life and a Whole Lot More.
  1. Stacy Julian has a novel approach to scrapbooking--it does not have to be chronological, and you do not have to scrapbook every picture you have ever taken. Instead, you should scrapbook what is meaningful to you, and tells your story or the story of your family. One suggested project is a scrapbook that is a journal with pictures of just one month in your family's life. Stacy reminded me that "the big picture" of scrapbooking is meant to be fun.

  2. I've been scrapbooking for about a year and own four books on the subject. I use this one by Stacy Julian the most because it contains more variety and more ideas outlined in an unfussy style.

Years ago all my photos were just thrown in a box and now, thanks to The Big Picture, they are organized so the whole family can enjoy them and the collection and storytelling just keeps growing. I also used to collect paper, so scrapbooking for me was a no brainer.

They will make nice keepsakes and carry on the family geneology.

  3. Stacy Julian has set me free from scrapbooking chronilogically
and feeling behind. Scrapbooking can now be the hobby
I always wanted it to be, filled with joy and not feeling
guilty like I am "behind in my work"!
I wish I had this book 5 years ago, I highly recommend
this book whether you are new to this hobby or
a seasoned expert. It will change how you view your
    photos and albums. Bravo Stacy!!

  4. I love this book and know I will use it as a resource for many years to come. Her focus on the memory first, rather than the pictures is awesome. I've tended just to chronologically work on albums and wanted to get away from it for years, this album gives you lots of ways to start in a new direction. Her layouts are inspiring but mostly it is the heart that she shares. I highly recommend this book.

  5. I bought this book because I'd heard how it took the "guilt" out of being behind in scrapbooking and because it makes you look at scrapbooking in a whole new way. It did neither for me. For me, scrapbooking has always been about preserving my memories. It also gives me a creative outlet. I thought her organizational system was interesting, but it would never work for me. I may not scrap in chronological order, but I'd like my layouts to at least flow in some sort of chronological order. I also thought her layouts in the book were horrible and completely uninspiring. For a few great scrapbook idea books, I would go with Jeanette Lynton's books, Cherish, Imagine, and Reflections.
