- Build it and they will come! After having visited Mr. Barkley's truly amazing backyard of creations, we had to buy a copy of his book as a keepsake. The photographs are wonderful...so much better than ours. My husband is currently building a clubhouse on stilts for our daughter and will undoubtedly reference this book for ideas and instructions. You don't have to be a child to fall in love with the tree houses, various swings, many collectibles and gorgeous gardens. Everyone who has looked at our copy of the book has been impressed. If you are ever near Rochester, NY, I recommend a visit to the tree houses and a souvenir copy of his book.

5 comments about Alphabetica: An A-Z Creativity Guide for Collage and Book Artists (Quarry Book).
- This book is well laid-out and easy to follow. The illustrations are exciting and explanatory. This allows me to use a little or a lot of collage in my artwork.
- This book is loaded with fun and funky ideas for any artist. Some reviewers mentioned that they believe the ideas contained here to be geared more toward altered book artists, but I disagree. Any artist can adapt the principles found in this book to inspire their own work. This book is a go-to resource for me on a regular basis. Love it!
- Out of all the books I own, Alphabetica is the most insightful creative book on my shelves...and even though I just received it, I can already tell it will be a book I go to again and again. There is more eye candy than is possible to comprehend in a single sitting - and the ideas put forth by the artists in the book are nothing short of amazing. Ms Perrella had a stroke of genius with this book - and the pure talent she has is showcased beautifully in Alphabetica. The other artists in the book stand on their own, adding to the inspirational factor - each artist produces fascinating work. The interplay between each contributor is awesome - although each work is interesting and makes you want to grab your supplies, the pieces play well together - there is not one single instance where the pieces are competing for the spotlight. There is definitely something to be learned from every page of this great book - whether you are a novice artist, or find yourself further along on the experience ladder. Alphabetica is a book you'll refer to time and again - as much for technique ideas as inspiration. I'm definitely a fan of Ms Perrella's after reading this book - she fills the roll as writer very well, and as artist with raw excellence. This is a must have!
- This book is FULL of actual artist examples in full color! You couldn't ask for anything better in this form of art. AWESOME!
- This is not a book for people who don't want to be messy. This is a book about digging into your art supplies and learning what they are for and learning the ones you love to use.
This book is truly wonderful in that it gives examples of top-in-their-field artist examples, shows many different styles of ORIGINAL work, tells the steps the artists used to get there, gives "Try This" ideas to get your wheels turning and finally, gives a small glimpse into the artist's studios and their lists of who inspires them.
This book does assume you have some knowledege of artistic supplies already. It does not give step-by-step instructions on "how to" do a journal page. It does discuss gesso, acrylic paints, dimensional items and so much creativity it is incredible. The "Try This" segments run throughout the book and give easy to find items and outlines for you and your creativity to explore yourself and your own style of work.
Fabulous!

5 comments about Even More Quilts for Baby: Easy As ABC.
- I love this book and have already made a baby quilt from it. The instructions were great and easy to follow and the project did not take a long time.
- I borrowed this book from the library twice in a row, and am finally buying one for myself. Most of my books only get used once or twice, but I've made 5 of the projects from this book and don't see an end in sight. Awesome presentation (fun to read and browse through) and good value (very versatile).
- Book came on time and in good condition. I'd buy from this seller again.
- I found that this collection of baby quilts offers the best options for simple quick quilts. I have always returned to this book everytime I make a baby quilt even though I have others to reference.
- The quilts in here are beautiful. They are also pretty simple to make. The patterns can be done quickly and I'm a beginner quilter. Like other people mentioned, the pictures are very helpful in selecting fabric and they're big and glossy so it's easy to see what the quilt will turn out like. This is by far the best of the Quilts for Baby books that Ursula has published. I can't wait till she puts out another one.

5 comments about The Traditional Bowyer's Bible, Volume 3.
- This book was excellent for outlining the process of making bows. Each section of the book is dedicated to a different area of bow making, and therefore was able to cover a substantial amount of ground. This book does require an advanced knowledge of bows and archery.
- This book was excellent for outlining the process of making bows. Each section of the book is dedicated to a different area of bow making, and therefore was able to cover a substantial amount of ground. This book does require an advanced knowledge of bows and archery.
- This was a very excellent book and I ordered the other 2 vol.
These also were very very good. I have enjoyed them very much.
They would be a very good addition to any boyers library.
Very good prices also.
- This final volume ( # 3 ) of this series has very useful instructional information concerning bow making tools, take down ( two piece ) bows, stone age bows, stone points ( knapping ), and making arrows. Bow designs from many cultures around the world are examined and explained in detail.
The tools mentioned range from simple hand tools, such as the wood rasp, to power tools, like the band saw. Power tools are not needed to make these bows, but can save time.
Properly made arrows are a very important part of archery gear, and this voulme shows how they are made correctly and safely using a variety of woods and fletchings.
Other chapters explain bow designs such as the asymetrical yumi bow from Japan, the materials for composite bows of Korea, and the hole nocks from some African bows.
- This volume is very explicative and not lost any details of his points. All the volumes makes a great help, and even a single powerfull source of information, to anyone who want to make the finest traditional bows, i recomend !

5 comments about Quilting With Japanese Fabrics.
- Kitty Pippin's knowledge and years of experience really make this book a treasure. Her teaching skills also shine forth in writing clear directions with lots of patterns to enlarge or copy.
This style of quilting, away from traditional western patterns and excessive machine-fast construction, appeals to me.
As soon as the book arrived, I sat down and gobbled half of it up! Marvelous photos-- I wish there were more detailed close-up shots of the finished quilts. Design ideas are coming together for me since reading it. The encouraging directions are a valuable and practical part of "Quilting with Japanese Fabrics." And, you can also use non-Japanese fabrics.
I am very happy to add this book to my growing Japanese quilting collection. Also in my "collection" of two books is Susan Briscoe's Japanese block quilting book (See my glowing review.)
- I loved this book because the auther works beautiful fabrics in a way I would so love to do. It is so well illustrated and informative that I feel I can do great things without all the gadgets usually associated with quilting and I love to sew by hand.
- A welcome addition to my library. Would be nice to see more books on this subject!
- This has got to be my favorite book using Asian fabrics to create beautiful quilts. I am particularly drawn to the mosaic-style pieces and the hexagonal piecing projects with sashiko embroidery. The introduction explains all the different types of Japanese fabrics and the elements of Japanese design. There are many reproducible designs in the back of the book for family crests and other traditional designs for sashiko embroidery. This book contains dozens of beautiful color photos that are very inspiring to the quilt designer. Diagrams, drawings, full-size patterns, and instructions are very clear and easy to follow.
- This would have to be the most interesting and inspirational quilting book I have bought. I was wary about buying a book I had never seen but am thrilled with it. I took it to my quilting group and am ordering five more for friends. Thanks Kitty, love it.

5 comments about How to Use an Airbrush.
- While not an exhaustive treatment of the subject, this is a very good reference. The foundation information needed to be successful in selecting and using an airbrush for model work is provided along with a variety of sample projects that demonstrate techniques. I had prior experience with airbrushes when the book was purchased but I did learn some valuable techinques and tips through the book.
- This book helped me alot with my airbrushing skill. I wish he had written more of the general info as well as some beginner lessons. The projects are ok, I would do a coulpe mabey, but they don't help as much as beginner stroke, and shadowing lessons would have. More info on how to(try) do artwork with a single action brush. All in all a great resource.
-
Actually, this book was precisely what I was looking for. I had purchased
and read several of the other airbrush instructional texts and, while they
were great in their own right, they were too generalized for my needs.
Most of them start out with how to choose an airbrush, air supply options,
etc., but then get a little too generalized as I said. They tend to talk
about airbrush techniques as applied to automotive painting, tattoo art,
and what-have-you.
The bottom line is if you are interested in learning airbrushing skills
as they apply to the detailing of plastic model kits, THIS IS THE BOOK
YOU ARE LOOKING FOR. Not only does the author cover the usual subjects
such as airbrush/air source choices, he goes on to ventilation concerns
and solutions, choices of paints and protective coatings, and other
areas.
He also presents several project examples as instructions on conceptual
areas such as modeling vinyl figures, weathering (i.e., making something
look like it's been through real-life wear and tear), as well as all those
little details that transform your kit from an overly detailed toy into a
miniature representation of the real item. I was particularly impressed
by the chapter "Adding Dirt and Rust to a '63 Chevy Impala". Here he
describes some very simple yet convincing method of taking a respectable
model kit and making it look like something that belongs in a junkyard,
right down to the grimy whitewalls and windshield wiper streaks.
For myself and others looking to make such transformations, this book
is gold. For others, it's definitely a bit too specialized and will
definitely disappoint, hence my suggestion for the title change.
- if you want to learn how to use a an airbrush this book can help you, but need more samples
- Wonderful jobs in painting plastic kits; but if you want a book to learn how to paint with an airbrush, get another book.

3 comments about The Potter's Book of Glaze Recipes.
- I am thrilled with this new book I recently purchased, I have had Emmanual Cooper's other books on glazing and recipes - and found them most informative and the glazes pretty true to explanation
I also have found that they are quite stable - we fire in the higher 1260.C upwards catagory and the sometimes glaze recipes unless worked out correctly can be very unstable and uninteresting.
All in all a very worthwhile book and easy to use, a definate "MUST HAVE" for your collection
- Easy to use and keeps open while I work on recipes.Great size . Great pictures on nice paper.
- This Book is a great book for any beginner Potter. It has over 400 recipes for glazes and it also explains how to adjust the glaze ifyou have a problem. I love my Book and I know I will use it for a very long time.

- This is a great quilting book. The selection of patterns are awesome. I would highly recommend this book to everyone. It is well worth every penny it costs.
- This is an awesome holiday quilt idea book. There are so many varied ideas that you could go wild with. Definitely worth the money spent.
- Gave this book as a gift. Person that received it loved it. It was hard for me to part with also. Had some really cute things in it.
- I'm always looking for gift ideas to make for Christmas. I found several great ideas when looking through this book. Now I just need to get sewing! This is definitely worth the money and a great addition to anyone's quilting library.

5 comments about Sew Today's Fashions for 18-Inch Dolls: Full-Size Patterns for Clothing and Accessories.
- I absolutely love this book. My daughter got her American Girl doll from Santa last Christmas, and she keeps asking for outfits for her. At $25 per outfit on average, it will get too expensive so soon. I found this book on a different website that offers a snapshot and description of each outfit, but of course the book is cheaper on Amazon.
I have some experience in sewing, so the outfits are a breeze to make in just a few hours. They all turn out looking very professional, fit the doll quite well, and my daughter is very very excited. She is only 5, but by watching me make them she is getting interested in sewing herself. I highly recommend this book to anyone with an 18-inch doll and some familiarity with sewing.
- I ordered this book because I've made scores of clothes using Hinds' EXCELLENT book, "Contemporary Wardobe for 18-inch Dolls," which has very fine instructions. I like "Today's Fashions" except for one difficulty: THE PATTERN PIECES ARE NOT NUMBERED. Numbered pieces are much easier to find and keep organized.
I also ordered Hinds' books, "International Wardrobe" and "Baby Doll Clothes," both with numbered pieces. The Spanish huipil (International)turned out nicely; however, one step was omitted in the instructions: finishing the back edges.
Hinds does wonderful, imaginative work; I'm eager to try many more outfits in "International," "Baby Doll" and "Today's." I've made doll clothes for many years; your delightful books are encouraging me to keep at it. Thank you, Joan!
- While the fashions are super (per my 9 year old daughter), the patterns do not seem easy to follow for someone with somewhat limited sewing experience.
- This is a lovely book with great patterns for making doll clothes. I am still enjoying making clothing for my friends' girls' dolls.
- This book was great for ideas and general instructions. However, I found the patterns to be way too large for the 18" dolls, and I found several errors in the construction directions. As a seasoned sewist, I knew how to work around this misdirection, but newer sewists may not.
I can still recommend the book though just for the inspiration.
