  1. This is a great reference book for Shelley china collectors. It shows pattern shapes, pattern numbers and color photos of the hundreds of Shelley tea sets. Great for a beginning collector or for someone who wants
to catalog their collection. Also,it gives the history of the Shelley company from 1860 to its end in 1966. I like this reference book the best of all the Shelley books I have collected.

  2. Though a little expensive, this book is a "must have" resource for any Shelley collector. As an avid collector myself, I use this book on a daily basis and have found it to be 99.99% accurate on patterns and descriptions. It does appear that the dollar value placed on items may be a little high, but that may be due to the fact the author lives in England and her values in pounds need to be "translated" into current dollar equivalency. Highly recommended resource for a Shelley collector!

  1. This book by Janine Bloch-Dermant has managed to succesfully capture the spirit of a very talented 20th centuary artist. By focusing on the whole person, and including details of his other talents, his business practice, his method and personal anecdotes, we not only get a clear understanding of his work, but are also inspired by his vision. As a book, this work is thoroughly researched and well compiled, including a Catalogue Raisonne', and details of the master's technique in pate de verre.

This book is a must read for lovers of glass art as well as anyone interested in pate de verre

  1. I was just not happy with this book. The artists redition of "art" made my eyes cross. I did not get inspired by the photographs at all and decided to try another "how to bead book". The author means well, but the photos were just too busy and nothing seemed to have placement. If this author has not taken any formal art instruction, I strongly suggest it.

  2. Don't waste your money!! There are far better beading books than this one. I hated to even give a one-star rating but I had to, otherwise it would not let me rate this trash.

  3. From the personal growth challanges in doing a Discovery Journey journal, to the examples of stitches used in creating original beadwork I have found Nancy's book a wonderful way to get out of the creative stuper I was in after moving from Ct. to Fl. I now can just sit down and throw beads together and before I know it I have a wonderful piece of bead art that all my friends admire, and to tell you the truth some of them envy because they feel I am so talented, (if they only knew the secret was what I learned from Nancy's book.) A must have in any beader's book collection to open up the artist in all of us.

  4. I have worked thru the exersizes in this fun book and found it to be an exciting and a challenge to me to push the boundrys of creativity a bit. Such fun and clear illustrations what a joy. Easy to follow and well written. Better than a lot of the other bead books I own.

  5. I bought this book after learning how to do a couch stitch. After one night of beading, I had learned many different stitches and was creating works I didn't think I could do! This book is a "must buy" for any new beader and I can't help but think that it would also be a good book for anyone who has been beading for a while but needs some new ideas. I checked out several beading books, and really believe this is the most helpful! Thank you Nancy! You've inspired me!

  1. I will use these designs greatly. My 11 yr old granddaughter used them to paint designs on water glasses and they came out beautiful! She now wants to use them to make a set for her other realatives.

1 comments about Pictorial Guide to Silvered Mercury Glass: Identification & Values.
  1. I haven't seen a great deal on this subject, so interested readers may want this. At least they can get some idea of the variety and beauty of these pieces. Many of the pictures are extremely blurry, as though either the camera or the object was shaking. Perhaps it has to do with the difficulties of photographing highly reflective surfaces, but some of the pictures are very good, so that's a doubtful hypothesis.
