5 comments about Dungeons and Dragons 4th Edition For Dummies (For Dummies (Sports & Hobbies)).
- The book is almost perfect, i miss ideas for wizard, druids, rangers, paladins, barbarians, bards and monks.
but i understand the main idea, sorcerer, rogue, cleric and fighters are really easier to play and construct, that's because it is for newbies.
- Do not bother with buying this. You don't need it. D&D 4th Edition itself is already Dungeons&Dragons for Dummies, I really don't see the need for something like this.
3rd Edition for Dummies was necessary, but not this. WotC dumbed down and destroyed so much of what D&D used to be, a 5 year old can play this within 10 minutes.
Don't bother purchasing the book. Or 4E for that matter.
- I was very surprised at how much I was getting with this item. The book to explain the book is 100 pages longer then what it was supposed to explain, and used mostly the same words to do it. A very worthwhile investment if you have money and time to waste.
- No surprises here. The book focuses on stuff a beginning player just learning the basics needs to know. Only a handful of races are covered in detail. Others, such as the Dragonborn, are mentioned as existing but the book provides no pointers and does not discuss their relative merits. The classes section only covers the four basics: Fighter, Rogue, Cleric, Wizard. There are sidebars that admit that other classes exist, but that is all you get. It is fairly obvious that space was not the reason the content is so skimpy; if you flip through the book you will see a high ratio of white to black: Wide margins and lots of blank spaces that could have contained text.
So surprises on authors' recommendations for feat and power selection either; it is more or less what you would choose anyway if you have read the rules and know how they work.
By the way, if you are confused about reviewers who are mentioning the sorcerer or druid, it is because they are reviewing the 3.5 version of this book and posting where the 4th edition book is being discussed.
- it should read .. Dungeons and Dragons (4th edition) IS for dummies. the reason there is nothing about role playing in this book is because 4th edition D&D isnt a role playing game (even less than third) it should be called D&D GOD-Power edition (the MMO for your tabletop) by WOTC .. no longer a role playing game, but now just a Fantasy game. if you buy this book .. realize that you are about to step into a world that is NOT D&D
but something that mocks it.

5 comments about Dungeons & Dragons Premium Dice (D&D Accessory).
- The bag is cute and the dice are nice but I just wish they came in a variety of colorsinstead of just blue.
- They see me coming every time. Every time Wizards sells a new set of dice, I buy them and every time I am disappointed. With this set it is the numbers printed on the dice. You would imagine after 30 years of making dice, people would get it right. This new set has three different number ones on them. On most of the dice there is the straight up and down "bar" which I prefer, and then the four sided dice has a one with a little flag at the top. The 12 sided dice has several numbers different from the rest of the set. The number ones on it have the flag and the serif at the bottom. The numbers should have all been consistent to make a perfect set. The dice bag however is nice.
- Cool little bag with a full set of good colored dice and it all comes in a ridiculously big box. Excellent.
- I'm so glad that Wizards of the Coast has made a set of "official dice" for Dungeons and Dragons. I've been using unofficial dice all my life, and couldn't tell the difference.
But now, wow! Using officially sanctioned dice has made all the difference in my game play. It's like a completely different game! 4th Edition D&D is actually fun now!
Thanks, Wizards!
- I was looking for a new set of dice, and since all the local hobby shops have fallen down I had to look to the internet. Since I have the Prime account I figured I'd give the D&D Premium Dice a try. I was a little annoyed that there were not pictures nor descriptions of what the dice might look like anywhere.
The dice are blue with speckles and white numbers, they're very easy to read, and very lightweight. I am satisfied with my purchase. One thing, it still includes the d% dice which is now basically useless in 4th edition.

5 comments about The Greatest Dot-to-Dot Book in the World (Book 2) (Greatest Dot-To-Dot Book in the World).
- My son would due the dot to dot books from Walmart in a short period of time. I wanted something more challenging for him. This book is more challenging.
- This is a great product for those who enjoyed doing Dot-to-Dots as a kid, but who want something a little more substantial than the typical offerings. The book has about 50 pages of great Dot-to-Dots, all of which consist of hundreds of dots. You can almost never tell what the picture is until you finish connecting the dots. I also recommend "The Greatest Dot-to-Dot Super Challenge" by the same author as well. That one has a few Dot-to-Dots with over 1000 dots per page!
- This is the third Dot-to-Dot book I have used with my students, usually after a test to fill time, and they all love them; these books are the student's favourite request. I would recommend these books to any parent or teacher; they have also been well received by university students. The books provide a useful distraction to students and adults alike plus they are wonderful for building hand-eye co-ordination in young and old. Buy the whole series, you won't regret it. D. Fraser Vancouver Island Canada
- I loved these as a kid now they are done for adults. I got them all and when I was laid up with foot surgery has fun with them. they varried by numbers. number sequences, symbols, letters, not for little kids..a big kid toy.
- These are a great upgrade from the dot-to-dots of my youth. They keep my mind working are are great for just killing time, plus I love to try and figure out the picture.

5 comments about Project Arcade: Build Your Own Arcade Machine.
- I like the book. but i wish to warn buyers about outdated parts. in the book and on the cd it lists many links. but many of the website have gone down and are dead. in the description for the book it says it gives details on making controls, but some cases it just gives links. some of are dead. but it does give good info on emulator, encoders and many other things that are hard to find on the web. but i think the man should have cut some parts short and added controle construction.
- This book covered so much more than what I was expecting. If you have never built an arcade cabinet before then I would recommend this book if only to see how many different ways it can be done.
- This book is a lot more "Techie" than I expected. It involves taking apart and reconfiguring quite a few things to get what you need. Sure it shows where to buy the components if you wish, but then why not just buy the arcade game already made. It does show you how to build the case. I thought it would show how to take your X-Box or Playstation and build an arcade enclosure to get the arcade feel. That is not what this book is about. You take a computer and several components, plus a moniter to make an arcade game. It is very informative but not quite what I expected. It is not a 1 or 2 weekend project. Do a search for mame to see what I mean. Mame is very important to this project.
- This is a good book.
My only thing is most of this is on the internet and may even be more updated if you find the right websites.
But it is helpful as for the beginner will help you plan things out in advance. Would be nice to have a few more illustrations like some sample wire diagrams of the controls etc.
But again..it has lots of reference websites listed in the book that can also assist.
My suggestion is -> don't build a Mame Cabinet if you don't have the internet...because you will need it.
Seems to have covered all the basis and the added cd is a nice touch.
- Following the Arcade scene for a few years, I've been promising myself this book once I'm ready to sit down and start building my own MAME Arcade cabinet.
After getting the book and skimming through the pages, I was disappointed to find it's either information I've already discovered on my own by surfing the Internet, or the links to additional content or files are severely outdated and a number of external links no longer work. The copy of MAME they provide you is ver 0.7x (Latest incarnation of MAME is over .100)
Don't get me wrong, this book is great for those who haven't already done the research and want an all-in-one book on how to do it. For me however, I gained nothing from the book.

5 comments about Tangram Puzzles: 500 Tricky Shapes to Confound & Astound/ Includes Deluxe Wood Tangrams.
- This Tangram set and book are very good quality. Tangrams are excellent learning tools for spatial understanding and problem solving. Because of the nature of this toy, it is much more versatile than regular puzzles. The same pieces are used over and over to solve the many different 'puzzles' which are presented in the book. (The solutions are also given at the back of the book.)
I have only one criticism of this product. I wish it came with a container for the pieces.
- I use this tangram puzzle with my junior high school students. The shapes are challenging, and offer great visual/spatial exercise for young minds. The book is big and has lots of puzzles to choose from. The puzzle pieces are nice too.
- A very nicely made product - the wooden pieces are very smooth without any splinters or sharp edges. The puzzles are awesome - during my pass-time, I try making these - some take a few minutes to solve, but some could take a few hours. It is so interesting that my daughter was trying to put together some when she was 4. You have 501, not 500 puzzles, because you have to arrange them to form a square to put them back in the packing pouch. Some of the puzzles are un-imaginable - I could not believe that you could make many of the shapes with the wooden pieces provided. The author/creator should be honored for his creativity.
I recommend this to anyone from 4 to 100+ years old - You are never too young to start training your brain, and never too old to stop. I would have bought it even if it cost twice of what it costs now.
- The first book arrived with the binding cracked from shipping. The online return form on Amazon is very easy. I mailed the first book back, free of charge, and Amazon sent a new copy promptly. The replacement was in perfect condition. The puzzle pieces are very nice, not a dollar store item. Overall, I am very happy with the service of Amazon and also the book. This would make a beautiful special occasion present.
- These beautiful wooden shapes allow both young and old to exercise the mind. My children enjoy them as puzzles and it is great for teaching spatial orientation (and patience) as well as creative outlet for the imagination (make up your own tangrams). The book itself has excellent images but the spiral bound nature of it is poorly executed. The wood pieces are very nice and solid with a good finish.

4 comments about Kaplan AP U.S. History in a Box.
- i'm hate studying, and i really hated AP US history. i wasn't even planning on studying for the AP exam because i knew i would do horribly no matter what, but my friend showed me these cards and they're AWESOME. they helped me so much, i only wish i had known about them sooner because i would have had more time to study with them before the exam. They completely refreshed my memory about everything i had learned throughout the course. these cards are great if you have already learned all the US history material and need a serious refresher.
- If you are taking APUSH, and plan on taking the AP exam, GET THIS! I took the exam in 2007 and got a 5 and an A in the class. I borrowed these from a friend to refresh my memory so that I could take the US history SAT Subject test.
This stack of 600 cards was absolutely amazing. It brought the whole class back to me (which I had almost completely forgotten) in a week. So, if your near the end of your history class, this would be a GREAT tool to not only bring up all that colonial info you forgot about, but also help you make your understanding of anything you didn't quite understand in the class concrete.
An amazing tool!!!
- The AP US History in a Box was a tremendous help to my son. It covered the correct material in a way that helped him retain the information for the AP Exam and I would highly recommend it!.
- This was such a great product!!! It included everything in the AP exam, and more too. (However, you can't just use this to study for the exam, you should use AMSCO or a Kaplan review book). The cards were all in chronological order even in the color coded eras. The only problem I had with it was that sometimes the cards would get out of order, and they had no numbers so that I could put it back in order. Also, I wished the cards were a little bigger.

5 comments about Poker for Dummies.
- Its good for beginners but its too broad.....it covers a little bit on every poker game and teaches you about bluffing, helped me win Id reccomend it!
- it's great that this book assumes that you know nothing about poker, because i knew nothing.
this book is great in helping you think of all the considerations in poker, what the odds are, the groupings of hands, what other players are playing etc, but with a bit of practise, you can make these decisions in a matter of seconds. and practise i did. when i found that lou krieger was host of royal vegas poker, i practised there.
the only aspect that put me off a bit, but was my own shortcoming, not the book's, was the issue of calculating the standard deviations, outs etc. being mathematically challenged, puts me at a disadvantage.
but this is a great book, which is comprehensively basic - as it should be. i'd recommend it to anyone.
- I love "Dummies" books and usually start with one when I want to learn something completely new. I have played poker recreationally most of my life, and been a consistent winner--because my competition was even worse than I was. I even won in my sole foray into a card club--because I was lucky. I had never played Hold'em, however. I wanted to learn more than just the rules of the game and get an introduction to some of the theoretical poker concepts that I knew were out there. This is the wrong book for that.
This book is just too elementary for anyone but a total and complete novice. The only "take away" for me was an understanding of what playing tight pre-flop means for Hold'em. The commentary on post-flop play was way too simple-minded.
This book spends too much time explaining things like tournaments, the World Series of Poker, and the Internet. I am still looking for the book I want.
- This book is great for everyone who's new to poker, especially casino poker. It explains all kinds of poker in detal and gives general rules on how to win in poker. You certainly can learn all your basics from this book, but I don't think it's good for people who want to learn Hold'em in particular - for that I'd recommend "Hold'em Excellence: From Beginner to Winner" by Lou Krieger. It explains everything in detail. Krieger certainly knows what he's talking about and explains it in a simple, easy to read form.
Poker for Dummies doesn't deal very well with internet poker; it only gives some general advice and the info is somewhat outdated. If you're interested in online poker, it's definitely not for you.
- Honestly, this book didn't do much for me. I never got interested in reading it, and just learned by playing and watching poker tournaments on TV.

3 comments about Masters Kakuro: 172 Challenging Puzzles (Kakuro).
- This book has puzzles difficult enough to be challenging without having to resort to looking up the answers. BUT! The numbers are small, skinny, and white, on a medium gray background and very hard to read. As with most kakuro books, the puzzles are way too small. Enlarge 40% and darken the background, and you're set to go. To me, it has been worth it due to the quality of the puzzles.
- I had little difficulty reading the puzzles (per the previous reviewer), and found the puzzles themselves large enough to easily work with (compared to many others). They range from difficult to nearly impossible, but somehow I managed to make my way through the entire collection. Overall, I found the puzzles fully enjoyable; this was a collection I always enjoyed pulling out for some mental gymnastics. I wish Bumgardner would come out with a Volume II, as he has a good sense of Kakuro style--puzzles that make you think, but not necessarily (compared with, say, the Dell collections) make you have to work more than think.
- Not a bad collection of puzzles, but as a previous reviewer said, the puzzles are very difficult to read. Mensa Kakuro is much better if you're looking for tough puzzles - better puzzles and easier to read. The Everything Kakuro Challenge Book by Timmerman is the best collection, the best puzzles I've ever done. All of them are on par with the best Dell Cross Sums, which I've been doing for over 25 years,

5 comments about Lottery Master Guide.
- I assumed a book costing $25 would be a valuable addition to my knowledge of playing the Lotto and Lottery. Gail Howard is more hype than substance. Having read and studied Professor Jones' books, and other significant authors on the subject of statistical analysis, this book is trite and unsubstantial.
Like "Sylvia the Psychic" on Montel, Ms. Howard has parleyed her image to connote a knowledge of Lotto but I would pass on her book. I feel like it was a sham and it cost me $25 for nothing.
- I like the book so far. It gets a little complicated. So, I have to re-read some of the tips, etc. I'm going to win Florida Fantasy 5! Yes!:)
~Jeniffer
- Gail Howard's books have been credited with helping dozens of people become millionaires- verified real people with real stories. No other lottery books I have seen have verified winners. Proof of Jackpot Winners can be seen at her website-numerous articles with testimonials and PHOTOS-important for me. I have learned to always go to the author's websites. That was enough for me plus I saw a real winner's testimony above. I ordered three of Howard's books, read practically round the clock after reading many other books on the same subject. She is clear on her systems, I get them even though math was not my greatest subject. A friend who just won something tipped me to Gail's books and it took me several weeks to decide-so glad I did.
- If you are new to playing lottery then this is the book to get. Plenty of charts to get you thinking and analyzing numbers so you can create your OWN systems. I highly recommend this book for all beginning lottery enthusists.
- First of all, let me just say that it takes A LOT of WORK and PATIENCE to pull off a success, using the techniques in this book. For those of you who think this book is a 1-2-3 gateway to winfall, think again. Great things hardly come easily.
With that said, I have been doing HEAVY testing with the techniques in this book for about a year and the results are confirmed. IT WORKS! The numbers I've generated within that year's time have captured over $13,000 in wins, not to mention the highly numerous Take-5 FREE PLAYS I amassed on a REGULAR basis. In one game I managed to capture 44 FOUR-NUMBER COMBOS! That is simply phenomenal!
My recommendation for those who are having trouble with the book is this:
1. Use Microsoft Excel
2. Track the frequency of the number skips - this will tell you which numbers to remove from your final group, reducing your pool to 17 numbers or less! (ex. if a skip of 10 hs been out for five games, check how often a skip of 10 stays out between hits)
3. Play BIG. You can't expect to win big with scared money. I've tried diligently without success. It took nearly $400 to net a $10,000 win.
4. When using Gail's 5-number wheels, there is a feature designed to refine your numbers. You press F4 to activate it. When F4 takes you to the next screen, press F4 at least 3 to 4 times (this takes you toward the higher spectrum). In either of those windows, you will find winning numbers.
5. To hit a jackpot, you will need to use Power Numbers. Sorry, but that was the ONLY way I was capable of capturing a jackpot. I learned this with my experiments that utilized PREVIOUSLY released winning numbers. Even when I had less than 15 numbers in my group, which included all of the winning numbers, the non-Power Number wheels still failed to capture a jackpot.
Good luck breaking the lottery!
