4 comments about Winning at the Races.
  1. this book is a must have for all serious handicappers....some of the angles alone have paid off for me big time.....a must have

  2. William L. Quirin is a genius! All of his works are completely amazing and infinitely helpful. I would suggest his books for everyone!

P.S.- His daughter, Kristin, is a wonderful person and a beautiful woman!

  3. the angles in this book are no longer profitable if they ever were and the formulas in the back of the book no longer are profitable. i have applied the angles in this book to tests on my computer database software over thousands of races.
    save your money.

  4. The book starts out well enough with emphasis on the importance of early speed and how effectively it finds winners. From there it touches on several elements of handicapping, but many of the approaches are outdated. Someone being introduced to the game for the first time can definately find some useful information, but it is not very helpful for experienced handicappers. I must say I was a bit disappointed as I have seen other books that referred to Quirin, so I was expecting more from this.

1 comments about Gambling Times Guide to Blackjack.
  1. The author Stanley Roberts calls himself the Blackjack Guru of the 80's. gu·ru ( A teacher and guide in spiritual and philosophical matters. A trusted counselor and adviser; a mentor. A recognized leader in a field: the guru of high finance. An acknowledged and influential advocate, as of a movement or idea: This description is totally accurate. A contemporary and a contributor to the founding fathers of Blackjack. Stanley Roberts writes to the beginning Blackjack Player and shows them how to advance through the levels of play needed to become an expert Player. Stanley does this with a minimum of "hype" for any particular system which is so evident in many other Blackjack books. Stanley starts with the development of Blackjack theory and methodology for beating the game. He expalains about the affect of casino rules on the house advantage over the player using noted author Lance Humble as his expert. Stanley explains the use of Basic Strategy as well as any other author. He even goes on with the help of Julian Braun to give the extremely rare and vital information on Double Exposure and Home Game basic strategy. Arnold "the Bishop" Snyder contributes a chapter on the casino conditions and other topics. Jerry Patterson contributes a chapter on a topic that became the next area of attack against the casino, the order of the cards and how it is affected by the shuffle procedure. After all the mathematics of the strategy and count systems had been developed then teams came into play. Ken Uston writes two of the most interesting chapters on team play and getting Barred. All areas of play are discussed including cheating, bankroll management and a plan for progressing up the ranks to an advanced player. This is a terrific for a beginner. There is no advanced strategy for Sale. But, it is written by a true visionary in the gaming world at a time when Blackjack was a Main course on the casino platter.

1 comments about Nick The Greek: World's Greatest Poker Player and Gambler.
  1. I purchased this book already knowing most of the biographical information about Nick the Greek. I was really hoping it would have a few interesting stories surrounding the life of the century's greatest gambler. Instead, I got a poorly written book that took famous quotes out of context and then fictionalized a "cleaned-up" story around them. Not only was the writing style painful to read, it took events out of context, attributed sayings to Nick that were actually said by other people, and had no sourcing or original interviews/insights from people who actually knew the subject. The entire book is done as a "fictional" story, but with the details cleaned up to the point that I had to check and make sure it wasn't a "young teen" book, rather than one for an adult. If you like Nick the Greek, don't buy this book.

2 comments about Phar Lap: A True Legend.
  1. This book has great pictures and some basic facts about the great Phar Lap but it's really geared for kids. If you are an adult you may find it a bit lacking.

  2. While I did appreciate the details and the statistics provided by this book, as well as all the great photographs and period advertisements; it reads like a book report. Its a summary of some very good stuff, but it's written such that it never really really drew me into the book.

2 comments about American Classic Pedigrees 1914-2002: A Decade-By Decade Review of Kentucky Derby, Preakness, and Belmont Winnersplus Kentucky Oaks and Coaching Club American Oaks.
  1. In American Classic Pedigrees (1914-2002), thoroughbred racing expert Avalyn Hunter informatively examines the pedigrees of the winners of the five American Classic horse races of the twentieth century: The Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes, Belmont Stakes, Kentucky Oaks, and Coaching Club American Oaks. Closely studying the evolution of the breeding horses to be racing champions; the degree of inbreeding among race winners; and presenting an exciting history of the races themselves, American Classic Pedigrees (1914-2002) is enthusiastically recommended reading for professionals as well as non-specialist general readers with an interest in the lineage of championship race horses.

  2. You might think that 700 pages of statistics and history would make for dry reading, but there's flesh and bone and heart behind those numbers. A. Hunter does a wonderful job of summarizing the horses' greatest races and then tying them back to the ancestors' performances. For example, who was "Teddy" and why does he matter so much to the horses running today?
Some horses are as great on paper was they are on the track, but why does it seem that some horses come out of nowhere and succeed when nobody in their family has ever accomplished anything? Or did they? Is somebody great lurking back there in the grandsire or great-granddam spot in the pedigree?
If the numbers are dry, the text is anything but. It's easy to say "this horse was first, this one second", but it's an art to convey the effort and the struggle or, for that matter, the ease with which some horses became legends.
My only wish for change in this book would be to add more pictures. Surely the Racing Museum or whoever holds the rights to Robertson's Thoroughbred Racing in America could provide more images. Yes, it would make the book even bigger, but while it's great to read about the blood ties, it's even better to see the slant of a shoulder in the filly that reflects the same power in the grandsire.

5 comments about Advantage Craps.
  1. I was a winner with this book. Yes, I loss some money at the tables, but I did come out ahead on two out of three sessions at 3 different casinos. When I didn't follow the book to the letter I got hammered. When I followed the rules I won. I don't think I would have made the money I did without this book. It's worth the 29 bucks. I made that back 20 times over.

  2. If you want to learn a proven method of winning at craps, then I recommend this manual. It contains a complete step-by-step set of instructions that make learning how to win easy, even if you have never played the game.

I had not played craps prior to reading "Advantage Craps." I am now able to win between $300 and $500 per day betting small. If you want to learn how to play the game correctly and make a lot of money playing, then you must purchase this manual.

I also liked the ...free coupons I got with the book. This makes this book the bargain of the year. Before you risk a dime in any casino, buy this book, try this system and prosper!

  3. This is by far the best place betting system I've ever seen or used. Also, the come betting strategy described is respectable but really only benefits the player when the table is hot. But lets be honest, if your lucky, a hot table is a 20 minute roll and one doesn't realize a hot roll existed until its almost over. The reality is you don't need a hot table to win a lot of money with this system. Anyway, I think the most important thing to pull out of this book is managing your bankroll and win/loss limits. By incorporating controlled money management skills with this place betting strategy you will become a CONSISTENT winner and a casino nightmare. Hats off to Roger Ford!!!

  4. I have purchased a number of systems that have been published by Silverthorne Publications. While this is one of the better methods I have seen it is still just a overglamourized version of what you can find in many books costing half the price. The truth is that unless you hit a hot streak or a semi hot streak in the long run you end up loosing more money than you win. I rated this two stars because the progression that you get to use when you hit a hot streak is very good and very profitable; however, if you dont hit that streak you will slowly deplete your bankroll.
I would like to warn everyone further on Silverthorne Publications. I recently purchased an online system from the company and they debited my account four times for the one system. When I asked for my money back for the three extra times I was ignored. I was ignored a total of three times even when threatening to get my lawyer involved. When some investigating was done I found no listing for a Silverthorne Publications, no listing at the address they use, and a disconnected phone number. When I dove deeper I found no records at all of a Martin J. Silverthorne. Buyer beware.

  5. I have bought several publishings from this company. Each publishing is a endless circle of telling you to buy another one of there publishings. They offer a 100% garuntee and dont honor it. If you email them they might respond once and tell you that your refund was submitted to your credit card and it is your credit card companies fault you have not got your refund. Dont be scammed like me and many others. Never purchase any publishings by Martin J. Silverthorne.
