  1. Pam Watts has chosen an inappropriate title for this book. In no way is this a beginner's guide to anything. One would have to be an expert sewer with an elaborate machine and many years of sewing and quilting experience to benefit from this book. There is no mention of hooping or stabilizing fabrics. These are techniques that beginner's need to know. Beginners do not use silks and satins and fancy ribbons for a project. I am very disappointed and I wish a more appropriate title had been chosen for the book. If you are experienced in machine embroidery and want to paint pictures with threads and fabric, this book is for you. But it is not a guide for a beginner.

  2. I was looking for an introduction to Machine embroidery. I would not use this book or recommend it as a beginners guide. Nice techniques, once you have an idea of the basics

  3. the book is very clear and easy to follow projects!! realy "for beginers" the reason that i don't rate it 5 stars is just because it doese not heave projects for medium more experienced
crafters and fiber artists or textile artists.

otherwise a very good book!! i don't know how can people say it is a 1-2 stars book?! and i do heave many books and magazines.
makig and teaching i heave to!!

1 comments about Boutis and Trapunto.
  1. Ms. Coget has put together a nice book that could serve as a good introduction to boutis and trapunto. However, for a craft as beautiful and traditional as boutis, the history, examples, patterns, and instructions are sorely lacking.

I purchased this book looking for more detailed "how to" explanations and examples than I could find online, and I was disappointed. The examples I had already seen online were far more intricate and the video clip I downloaded for free by Marie Yolande was far more helpful than the basic instruction offered in this book. Unfortunately, after reading this book I still have too many questions.

5 comments about Cross-stitch Patterns for Mother Goose's Words of Wit and Wisdom.
  1. The most beautiful cross stitch patterns for childrens bedroomart that I have ever seen... END

  2. If you're looking for a cross-stitch book that has everything including cute patterns, this is the one you're looking for. You can't ask for a better cross-stitch book than this one. The colors and the designs are so refreshing and very good. I myself have done three of the patterns in the book now. If you are truly a cross stitch enthusiast, this book's for you!

  3. This is one of my all-time favorite books of cross-stitch charts!

Interestingly, I first saw the book "Mother Goose's Words of Wit and Wisdom" in an elementary school library. I loved the bright colors and great illustrations. But it took me a while to realize that *all* the illustrations in the book were counted cross-stitch designs! Once I realized that, I wondered if there were charts available of these illustrations. After a bit of searching, I discovered that indeed this second book was available - a book of charts!

The front of this book looks like the original, with the rhymes and illustrations. At the back of the book you'll find the corresponding charts. They are full-size graphs, black print on a blue grid with a color key for DMC floss.

Also included is a nice little explanation about Mother Goose and the Sampler, as well as a short section called Cross-stitch Essentials that gives a short tutorial on cross-stitch techniques.

This book is a real keeper!

  4. I picked up this book about two years ago and I am still cross-stitching its patterns! It is simply the best cross-stitch book ever and it doubles as a children's book too!

  5. As a twenty-something crafter, it is often difficult for me to find cross-stitch books that are more modern and suit my tastes (I'm not a big fan of teddy bears and old samplers). I bought this book because my mother used to read Mother Goose to me when I was young, and I have been happily surprised! These aren't necessary geared toward the young adult stitchers, but the color usage and reminiscence of the patterns keep me coming back time and again. There are a few easy patterns, but most of them are fairly challanging to the intermediate stitcher, which is a plus. I definitely enjoy this book and am glad I added it to my collection while it was still available!

  1. Beautiful photography, but there's not much substance. The potential applications of the included patterns are limited.

  2. Beautifully illustrated and easy to follow instructions. The patterns, sewing instructions and examples are written in a way that anyone, beginner or novice will complete equally beautiful works.

  3. The book has some really cute, original ideas for children. I was very excited to get started on a project for my daughter. The instructions were very basic and did not include sufficient detail to avoid making mistakes. Also, the project was far too small to turn it inside out without pushing a hole through the fabric. I will most likely stick to embroidered items and will avoid the doll projects in the book.

  4. It is filled with beautiful photography that is cropped so closely you can't see a good image of the finished object. The projects are sweet, though, and inspire me to make all sorts of gorgeous little things for the children in my life. I never considered working a design (redwork style) entirely in yellow, for example, as is done on a blanket in this book. The sailboats are charming and the little mary-janes are too precious not to try. I would definitely recommend this book if you can pick it up second hand.

  1. This is a nicely presented book with very simple instructions. Pictures of scenes are created by using simple embroidered french knots on cotton fabric (quilter's homespun). I have made two of the scenes from this book, which features approx 8 patterns. The results are rewarding and are sure to be admired by embroidery enthusiasts.

  1. You don't need to have done much sewing before to follow the instructions in this book to make reasonably fitting and looking womens clothes. I like the way the book tells you how to change the design to do things like add pockets, make shorts instead of slacks etc. I've tried to make clothes from other patterns and these are by far the easiest and quickest I've tried so far - and the results are good. The blouse with collar and cuffs is my favourite.

1 comments about Diana Lampe's Embroidery from the Garden (Milner Craft Series).
  1. Diana Lampe's book of embroidery designs is as visually pleasing as it is instructionally detailed. "Embroidery from the Garden" includes precise stitching directions, vivid color photos, and a variety of South African and Australian flowers to embroider in a number of projects. Lampe's original designs are easy to follow and a joy to replicate. The exotic flora of the tropic clime are listed by their botanical names (i.e., Strelitzia reginae --- Bird of Paradise, Felicia amelloides --- Blue Marguerite), and illustrated to capture the flower's essence. This exquisite book is perfect for anyone who is serious about embroidery. Take a minute to stop and stitch the Rhodohypoxis!
