  1. Large all color plates and detailed notes about construction and stitches make this book an invaluable resource for anyone researching medieval Islamic embroidery.

  2. One of the most interesting books I have purchased for some time.
    Very well researched and presented.
I have recently attended an excellent class on this subject and am now endeavouring to receate some of these embroideries.

  3. Whether you are a lover of beautiful embroidery or a needleworker looking for inspiration, this book is an invaluable addition to any library. The photographs are excellent quality high resolution so that each stitch is visible. Both the introductory text and picture captions are full of rich information with details such as thread count, size, provenance, even carbon dating as well background on patterns and practices. This is a book that can be read again and again - well worth the price

  1. Christmas, the time of year when family's come together and crafts such as needlework are spread across the house. This year you may want to try something different other than, the usual christmas tree paper and food decorations, why not make something that will last for many years. Well then buy this book, for the sheer amount of christmas needlework designs and ideas could fill Santa's sack. I highly recommend this book for yourself, or a present for another crafty family member or a friend. Rita Weiss takes out all the complication of needlework and makes it easy, fun and creates a true masterpieces for you christmas time household decorations which will stand out from the crowd easily=Buy it now!

  2. 36 designs with instructions for making Christmas cards, tree ornaments, pin cushions, pillows and belts. Nineteen pages and the only color is the glossy soft cover.

Too small for tables of contents, but some of the patterns are:
    The three kings
    Building a snowman
    Santa Claus in his sled
    The skier
    The Herald Angel
    Poinsettias
    Christmas tree
    Christmas candle
    Santa's Reindeer

There is even "A Partridge in a Pear Tree"

What more could you want. All the pictures are simple enough for a beginner to feel comfortable.

  1. A quick scan of this book only amaze me! How can this book be sold so cheaply - there are some adorable designs for easy things to knit with fairly clear instructions and an introduction on how to sew the knitted pieces together. I advise that you add this book to your collection!

2 comments about Complete Book of Hardanger.
  1. Mrs. Geldens has presented us with as nearly complete a book as I've seen. There are introductory directions for novice stitchers and many uncommon stitches for the advanced Hardanger needleworker. Included are clear and precise color pictures, line graphs and written directions for the stitches. Especially appealing are the different size Kloster configurations for the stitches, from small to large a veritable treasure trove for the stitcher who designs his or her own work. And for those who don't design, 25 projects for different levels of ambition are included!

  2. When I first looked at the book I did not have a idea of the treasuring content it had. I found many stitches I had never seen before and complete diagrams to follow, and the projects are beautifully worked. I do not get used, however, to hand-drawn diagrams, maybe because it is not the usual way to present them in embroidery books; nevertheless, they are easy to follow, as well as the instructions for the projects the author included. My mother says it is a surprising jewel!
