3 comments about Picture Book Activities : Fun and Games for Preschoolers Based on 50 Favorite Children's Books.
  1. I totally agree with Trish Kuffner's philosophy on reading. The quotes she chose for the introductory chapters are absolutely priceless. Her short book reviews for each selection are delightfully insightful and the stimulating related activities project cozy, loving approach. My thanks to the author for writing this wonderfully inspirational book.

  2. I have been using this for about 4 months with my 3 and 5 year old boys. We love the entire experience we get from this book. Always having loved reading, this book has triggered a deep desire and great enjoyment in finding and reading good books to my boys, and then doing the related activities. I'm asked several times a day if we can do more activites for whichever book we are currently on.

  3. This book is one of the best resources on the market for language arts enrichment. It is authored by Trish Kuffner, who herself is the homeschooling mother of five. Picture Book Activities utilizes 50 award winning children's books such as "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie, Blueberries for Sal, Madeline and Harold and the Purple Crayon" as the basis for its curriculum. The curriculum is divided into the categories: Before You Read, As You Read, Let's Talk About It, Arts and Crafts, Cooking and Baking, Fun and Games, Rhymes and Finger Plays, Fun and Games, Let's Pretend, Music and Movement, Play and Learn and Enrichment Activities. There is also an appendix which covers basic craft recipes, making books with children, children's book awards, and picture book resources. On the book cover it states "fun and games for preschoolers" however this book can be utilized with children pre k through grade 2.

  1. This is great if you're studying medicinal herbs, it helps to "get up close" to plants that probably don't grow in your area. We really like pretty much all Dover products, and this was no exception.

  1. I love this book! The stress-free projects are fun to make and they don't have to be perfectly executed to look great. My daughter and I are working our way through the seasons--love the Spooky Cheesecloth Ghosts--and enjoying every minute. She's 12 now and those minutes of fun are precious indeed. Thank you for giving us another way to connect.

5 comments about Create Your Own Beach Sticker Picture (Sticker Picture Books).
  1. We took this on vacation with us and three kids between the ages of 2 and 4. It was something different and they really enjoyed it. It was easy to pack and provided about an hour of quiet activity that didn't involve cartoons. It only lasted about 2 more times for my two year old son but older kids could probably get a few more uses out of it.

  2. This is a terrific product. When the sticker book arrived my 3 year old was sick. This kept him busy for several hours. Highly recomend.

  3. I thought the stickers were the plastic kind that are not sticky (like window clings), which they are not. The stickers do seem very durable though and I think the kids will enjoy this.

  4. I cannot believe I paid this much for this book. Totally overpriced, I feel "taken" by Amazon.

  5. I bought this for my toddler to take on vacation. She absolutely loved it!!! I don't think I paid too much. The stickers are reusuable - you can create your own beach scenes over and over again. This is great for car/plane/train and definitely kept my child entertained. Kids love stickers and the great vibrant colors. Great quiet activity!

5 comments about Got Tape?: Roll Out the Fun With Duct Tape!.
  1. When I first saw this book I was intrested in but compleately inadept with duct tape. This book gave me ideas, inspiration and instructions.

It really helped me get going, and I am now much better with duct tape and have even compleated several pieces of costume clothing!

Don't get me wrong, using duct tape and making it look nice take a lot of effort. Learning to make your duct tape creations look great will take a lot of patience and a lot of time you can dedicate to it until you get the hang of it you will have to make things over and over so they will look good.

If you are willing to spend the time (and duct tape) to make things it's a ton of fun and is definently worth the effort when you finish your first creation.

I'd recomend this book to ages 9 and up.

  2. My high school students loved the design unit I taught based on the elements of design by creating accessories with duct tape. Written by a high school student who was also bitten by the duct tape bug, makes this book very relevant to teens. In fact, they got so involved they worked till the bell rang and had to hurry to their next class.

The projects are relatively simple and the instructions are easy to follow. There is a variety of projects from wallets and purses to can holders and a tie for her dad. This is a great starter book for the duct tape enthusiast. The price is very reasonable.

Who knows, maybe your teen will get hooked and win the Duck Tape Prom clothing scholarship.

    Becky

  3. ummm, this book is premium.

  4. Duct Tape is cheap..and it's available in a wide array of colors now too.
My daughter got this book from us for Christmas, along with about 5 rolls of tape that I bought separately.
She LOVES this book. It has about 25 different crafts...including clothing, glasses, and hats you can make from tape.
Great fun! She spent several hours making things.

  5. The book isnt everything we were looking for,it is fun and it does show you things to make but not enough. My son made a few things but some of the things in the book are not something you would make. He did say the frame was to long to make.
He did make a wallet and he uses it. I just thought there would be more things in it.

1 comments about The Best of Making Things: A Hand Book of Creative Discovery.
  1. I own an old 1973 copy of this book. The entire thing is charmingly hand written, right down to the copyright page, which weaves all of the usually boring title information into a drawing of a little castle overlooking the sea.
This book has given me countless ideas for my art classes. Making Things contains projects that range from potato stamps to bread dough sculptures to candle dipping to clothing patterns, bubble makers, stilts, love beads, emergency hammers, hack saws, whistles as well as traditional crafts like sock puppets and crayon rubbings.
I can only imagine how wonderful the updated version of Making Things must be.
