1 comments about Celtic Stained Glass Coloring Book (Dover Coloring Book).
- This is a cool book of Really neat designs. I was at first sad that they were such simple designs (and not on regular paper) but there are many, many wasy to color them and they become more complicated further into the book. I eventually gave mine to a teacher at my school but I still reccomend this book to anyone who likes usuing sharpies or paints.

1 comments about Cathedrals of the World Coloring Book.
- My 5-year-old son is fascinated with cathedrals. He loves to look at the book I have on a local cathedral. He tries to draw them and build them with his Lego bricks. It is difficult to find a book on this subject that is geared toward his age level, so when I saw this coloring book, I knew I had to buy it. He absolutely loves it. I might have to buy several more of them. He'll have this one finished in no time.

1 comments about The Best of Making Things: A Hand Book of Creative Discovery.
- I own an old 1973 copy of this book. The entire thing is charmingly hand written, right down to the copyright page, which weaves all of the usually boring title information into a drawing of a little castle overlooking the sea.
This book has given me countless ideas for my art classes. Making Things contains projects that range from potato stamps to bread dough sculptures to candle dipping to clothing patterns, bubble makers, stilts, love beads, emergency hammers, hack saws, whistles as well as traditional crafts like sock puppets and crayon rubbings.
I can only imagine how wonderful the updated version of Making Things must be.

5 comments about Kids Learn to Knit.
- I got this book as an adult beginning knitter (I had made a scarf before picking up this book) to help teach my 7 YO daughter to knit when she decided she wanted to. It has been extremely helpful. The diagrams and instructions for beginning stitches and such techniques as casting on and binding off are quite honestly the best I've seen so far. The explanation of how to make a slip stitch in particular I found clearer and easier to follow than anything I had seen in an adult book.
The projects also are attractive, well-photographed, and are actually the sort of thing kids might want to make. The very first project, the flag, became a series of flags with letters on it to make her name for her room. She's not quite to the final project, a felt-lined purse, but she's looking forward to it. The other projects are stuffed animals and fabric books - cute in a kid-friendly way, not too precious or 'boring'. Plus they are QUICK - kids won't get bored spending three weeks on a giant scarf or anything like that.
A few small caveats - they do all the projects on size 6 needles, which is AWFULLY small for beginners. We did ours on size 8 instead - it makes the projects a little larger, but so far we have not run out of yarn, so it doesn't seem to matter, and it's a lot easier for me to see what she has done, especially when something has gone wrong.
They also do all the projects on 'double-knitting yarn'. I had no idea what that was (remember I'm a beginner too), nor could I find it at the local craft store. I finally went with worsted-weight yarn as that looked about the same from the pictures in the book. I later found that double knitting yarn refers to the weight, and is about halfway between sport weight and worsted weight, so my choice of worsted seems to have been ok.
Finally, and this is a little detail, I certainly never would have thought of it. The first project is a little flag, and it is important to have the yarn end in a particular corner. My daughter did it twice getting it to end in the wrong corner. Finally we realized that it was not clear whether to count the row of cast-on stitches as a row or not and so she was always one row off, putting her yarn in the opposite corner of where it should have ended. Not a mistake a more experienced knitter would make, but one that could have been a little clearer in this book for kid learners.
Would I recommend this book? You bet, in fact, I already have. The quick, attractive projects and the wonderful instructions more than make up for the for points where we had some confusion. There is always some confusion when beginning to learn a new skill after all. I wouldn't have gone into as much detail as I did on this if it wasn't that I thought it might help other readers of this book.
Highly recommended, but best for a child who has a more experienced adult around to help them with the few points that might be confusing.
- I am a beginning knitter and I found this book very helpful or at least in having looked at it. I am anxious to try some of the projects. The pictures and explanations were excellent.
- I am a ten year old and I have been knitting for 3 years. I think this book is great for beginners and advanced knitters. The directions are simple and helpful and makes knitting super easy. Belive me, this book is #1!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- I bought this for my six year old daughter who was interested in learning to knit. It was explained so well in this book my mother in law now knows how to do a slip stitch where as before she would just tie the yarn to the needle, yes. Really. But no more! My daughter and her Grandmother are now slip stitch aficionados! The casting on for the six year old is coming along nicely but the actually knitting part is taking a little more practice. A great easy way to understand learning how to knit basics for the young (and young at heart).
- There are several books out there for kids and knitting. I purchased this book for my niece who is in 5th grade. The book was a little too young for her so I wound up giving it to a friend with a 1st grade daughter. The use of little characters to teach the concepts of knitting was ideal for a younger girl (1st through 3rd grade). The instructions were fairly clear, but the projects were a little goofy. I wound up buying a klutz kit book that included needles and instructions Klutz ® Knitting Kit. I wanted to buy her needles and yarn anyway so the price was about the same. I since have gone to the library to look at other kids knitting books and was able to find several others I thought were better for older girls such as the following: Kids Knitting: Projects for Kids of all Ages.

2 comments about The Little Mermaid Coloring Book.
- This book is appropriate for older children who read because the text of the H.C. Andersen story accompanies the outline illustrations for readers to color. Thea Kliros provides nicely detailed illustrations for the more advanced coloring book enthusiasts. This is not a Disney-modified version of the story that would appeal to early-elementary aged students.
- I am 17 yrs old. My mom got the mermaid coloring book for my little 10 yr old sister. This is not just a coloring book it is a story as well. The story is in small sized words filling entier pages and it is not the disney's story....but still nice. The pictures are okay some r better then other's. You can defenetly see the artist talent, but it looks like the artist was trying to add a a old master's look to the drawings. This coloring book was okay, but I am giving it only 4 stars becuse there is just as much story as there is drawings. My little sister likes it ok but she likes her fairy coloring book (that we alsogot off Amazon) muchbetter and so do I. All in all this cloring book was ok but I have had better.

5 comments about Make Your Own Playdough, Paint, and Other Craft Materials: Easy Recipes to Use with Young Children.
- Every parent, teacher, childcare provider, and scout leader should have this budget friendly book. The variety of recipes, science experiments, and resourceful materials presented are valuable for expanding a child's education. Using just about everything a person already has in his/her kitchen, creative materials can be formed with little cost. It includes over 100 recipes, and presents ideas for every season of the year.
I recommend buying this book, not just to have fun with your children, but for the knowledge they will gain, homemade gift ideas, holiday decorations, and the many other educational teaching elements it provides. You will find simple, but affordable gift ideas for children to make, discovery table suggestions, and many experiments. Each chapter of the book lists what children can learn and accomplish. Whether your child needs help learning measurements, hand-eye coordination, or learning science, you'll find this book to offer it all. The recipes and activities offer instructive and physical advantages for children, and teach them, as well as parents, about ways to recycle.
The Author has worked with young children for over ten years, and the quality of her experience in this book is evident. She understands that family resources are difficult to manage and still afford the extras, while providing an educational and fun activity for kids.
Kristina N. is a thrifty stay-at-home mother of six children, and home schools her preschooler. She does freelance writing in her spare time.
- I have to assume that this book is very good. I bought it for someone else and had it sent directly to them. They specifically asked for it by name and author.
- This book has been a great help to me as a stay at home mom of a toddler!! Great ideas to keep her busy when the weather is too hot to get outside(or as winter approaches too cold!). I love the ideas and my daughter has loved the varied activities in her "art" time!
- I think this book is wonderful! If you have any of the "how to make and do things" type of books some of these recipes might be included but to see them all laid out in order with recipes for different things is very nice! Plus most of the recipes all share common ingredients so you don't need to buy a lot of hard to find stuff for each project.
The way this book is laid out, with one recipe per page and large print,is very easy for children to read.My daughter really enjoyed being able to read the list and help mix up the ingredients. We especially liked the gloop and glop recipes for making slime.
If you work at a school or daycare or if your kids go through paint and playdough like it is going out of style,I highly reccomend this book to cut supply cost because whipping up large batches of supplies will save you lots of money and if you get the kids involved is an awesome learning experience!
- to my daughter with the four kids. Can't say she'll ever have time to look into it but she surely buys enough of the real stuff that she should. Can't say that I've looked into it myself.

1 comments about Quiet Time Busy Books: Fun Fabric Pages Personalized for Your Little One.
- I was looking for a book with ideas & instructions for quiet books & found this before it was even released & pre-ordered it & was so anxious to get it in the mail. It was a huge disappointment. It didn't have much at all in the way of traditional quiet book stuff (you know the ones where you lace up the shoe or button the button). It was weird quilting/applique stuff that didn't have much to do with interactive quiet book stuff at all. If I can find it I'll post some pictures. If you still think you want it buy mine! I gave it 2 stars instead of 1 because I think there was 1 idea or 2 in there that I thought I could adapt. I wish I had my money back though!
