  1. This is a superb find. The book couldn't be more straight forward. This is a book that not only allows you to develop your own tastes and preferences in fine tobacco but also allows you to track some of the variables that will impact your reviews. The isolation of the variables allows you to sharpen your awareness and "learn" more about the cigars you have sampled. Not overly complex but very detailed and a must for any serious cigar lover or casual cigar enthusiast.

  2. If you'd like to keep track of the different cigars you've smoked - not a bad idea considering the vast amount of smokes available - Cigar Dossier will have you logging thoroughly and in style. With about a hundred and sixty pages with four entries each, the average smoker could record a lifetime of stogies. Each entry provides space for the brand and size of cigar, where purchased, cost, time and date smoked, your rating, last meal eaten and time (I don't use this one, but it's a nice touch), wrapper color, your comments, and the cigar's band to be pasted. There's also a page on which you can list your favorite cigars and tobacconists, then a few more pages for your notes. It's nicely bound in a black hardcover with gold embossed letters. The pages are cream colored with soft burgundy print.

If I were asked to improve this book, I would add a block to each entry in which to record the country where the cigar is made. Other than that, this log has everything the cigar enthusiast needs. Cigar Dossier is a classy journal that would easily be a cherished family heirloom for future generations of cigar enthusiasts.

  3. Read the past reviews says it all. This is a great find. I've been keeping a journal for a few years and now a very classy hardbound book shows the passion people can express about the cigars they smoke. I bought this black leather bound book with gold embossed lettering "Cigar Dossier". Although I do have one problem: I have done about 50 pages with my cigar bands glued in its appropriate box and now this book is becoming much thicker than the binder. This will cheapen the look more and more as time goes on. Nonetheless, this is the best I've seen and definitely worth the buy.

  4. This is a smart looking dossier with plenty of entries to last you a long time. There are fields on each entry for Brand, Size, Where Purchased, Price, Box/Individual, Time Smoked, Date, Rating, Last Meal Eaten & Time, Wrapper, and of course a Comments section. There's even a place to put the bands from each cigar.

I've only just started, so I'm not sure if adding the bands will make the journal thicker than the binding. Use a glue stick instead of tape, and you'll be able to fit more.

The only thing it lacks is a "Country of Origin" field. But the Comments section is big enough to include that if you like.

All in all, a great buy. Recommended with 5 stars.

  1. I love SNOW! he makes the day and the Captain and the twin's are outrageous! Love it all!

  2. On a journey to Egypt Tintin meets absentminded Egyptologist Professor Siclone. The professor is in search of mystery. The only clue is a symbol drawn on a piece of parchment. Once in Egypt Tintin and Snowy follow the professor into an underground passageway marked by the symbol and find empty sarcophaguses marked with their names. They escape and find themselves pursued by mysterious criminals. All the while the mysterious symbol keeps turning up on stone walls, painted on trees, and on cigar labels...

This comic is fun because of the exotic landscapes. Tintin travels through Egypt and India which are drawn with exotic flare. Whenever he thinks he has entered the traditional untouched east, western civilization intrudes: He rescues a lady from bandits only to discover that he has just spoiled a scene from an adventure movie. He is captured by Bedouins who recognize him as a celebrity reporter and are happy to have him as a guest. He approaches two arabs to ask directions and finds that they are in fact the Thompson and Thomson team who have donned robes to blend in. The east meets west theme, inherent even in the mysterious cigars marked with an ancient Egyptian symbol, kept me guessing through the book.

The Cigars of the Pharoah maintains the quality of other books in the series. There are jokes for children and for adults, so it is a good purchase for families and public libraries. There are some loose ends which are tied up on part 2 of the story: The Blue Lotus.

If you are reading this to help learn French, Tintin comics are good for reading at a French 2 level. There are a lot of words that aren't basic vocabulary but it is still easy to follow the story because the writing and pictures tend to reinforce each other. This particular comic seems to have more every-day vocabulary than other Tintin books.

  1. My wife Pat gave me the second edition in 1995. I recently purchased the new addition. It only gets better. Not only is it put together beautifully but more importanly, it is fun to read as well as being very informative. I find myself frequently going back to it as I'm enjoying a cigar and a scotch. Great book, great price, go buy it. You won't be disappointed. Good smoking!

  2. A wonderful book! With an emphasis on Cubans, it gets into detail about the history of cigar production and everything about the leaf from field to final product, including how leaves from different parts of the tobacco plant affect the flavor of your cigar.

The reviews of popular brands are well written and informative, but as they are now 3+ years old, it's about time for a new edition.

An essential volume for anyone interested in cigars!

  3. This is a fine cigar guide, but it is getting dated. I hope the author will provide an update soon. Still, it is a very useful reference guide for cigar lovers.

  4. This book gave some useful information on cigars - particularly on the history of cigars, but overall, it did not answer half the questions I have. It does not even have a glossary.

  1. This is the leading book on cigarette lighter collecting. There are nearly 1000 lighters illustrated in color. The variety is incredible. From Zippo to Dunhill and so many more. There is even a value guide to give you an idea of value. This is the authors third book on lighters and they really went all out to make this the best book ever.

  1. I have one question however - What is the significance of the "Key" symbol to Cubans. How did it originally link with the Cohiba cigars? J Lorenzo johnmenc@mindspring.com

  1. I would have to say that this book is a good tool for the beggining sculptor. The book is informative as well as easy to follow. Most of the questions and doubts that I had were answered as I read from project to project. The book is not too overwhelming but rather simple and to the point. The book starts with a good section on selecting and caring for tools. Then briskly moves on to the wood needed and follows through to the projects in the book. Overall, I was pleased with the information gained from this book.

5 comments about Cigars, Whiskey and Winning: Leadership Lessons from General Ulysses S. Grant.
  1. Very good read for anyone in management.
Uses the Civil War memoires of U.S. Grant to illustrate management skills and practices.
Very interesting. Excellent gift for men.

  2. Kaltman has done the research for you and put it all in a great lesson by lesson format. Any leader can refer to this book for day to day operations.

  3. Grant may have been a poor President, but he was a great General. This book expounds the leadership principles of his war years. Grant was not only decisive, but he could also admit to mistakes. His treatment of his fellow officers shows he was a born leader. In three years, he rose from being a store clerk to a four star general. He did this using his courage, common sense, and good decision making. Lincoln may have saved the Union through his political leadership, but U.S. Grant saved it militarily with his good leadership.

This is a easy to read book. The book is in excess of three hundred pages, but most of the pages are not full. Some two hundred and fifty principles are detailed in the leadership of U.S. Grant. Too bad Grant did not use some of these principles in his Presidency.

  4. I've never been a fan of "lessons" books and here is yet another. There are some interesting and informative quotes of/from Grant, but the lessons are, at best, better than average for such a book. -- Louis J Sheehan

  5. This book is a quick read. I particularly enjoyed the author's focus on Grant's ability to react, adjust and adapt. Staying away from Grant's presidency was a good idea until the end. Even then, the author contrasts Grant's leadership style as a General to President and why he failed (at least historically) as a politician. What I didn't like about the book was the lack of reference to God. I understand that not everyone is firmly rooted in "the Word", but its absence leads to more questions...at least for me. Overall, thought provoking, mildly insightful and interesting. I heartily recommend Lee's Leadership Lessons. It is the best book of this style I have ever read.

5 comments about International Connoisseur's Guide to Cigars: The Art of Selecting and Smoking (Essential Connoisseur).
  1. This book is packed full of useful information.

Written in an easy-to-read formatt, Jane Resnick creates a lively atmosphere that honors the role of cigars throughout the world.

Buy "The International Connoisseur's Guide to Cigars" and enjoy the smeet smell of information.

  2. A detailed and richly illustrated tome discussing the finer points of cigar selection and enjoyment. As the title suggests, this is a guide for the connoisseur, not the novice. The perfect gift for anyone urbane enough to let a trash fire burn three inches from the tip of his nose.

  3. An excellent guide to choosing fine cigars. I would advise anyone interested in choosing the best cigars to buy this book.

  4. My husband loves cigars and this book has taught him so many things. Like how to smoke and really enjoy a great cigar.

  5. This was in absolutely perfect condition, and just what I wanted. I recommend the seller as being a completely reliable source.
