4 comments about Ken Uston on Blackjack.
  1. Ken Uston once again demonstrates why he was the world's foremost authority on the game of blackjack. His playing experiences were both varied and extreme. In this book, he tells stories (some told before) of his playing experiences, and details his ultimately fruitless attempts to get the Nevada Gaming Commission to stop the casino practice of barring card counters. Of note: in this book he disavows his previously touted Uston APC count, stating that it's just too difficult to use effectively, and that simpler systems are probably more effective in the long run. That piece of information alone makes the book worth having, and in this book he suggests which other systems should be used instead.

  2. A GREAT BOOK FOR ANYONE WHO WANTS TO KNOW WHAT IT WAS LIKE IN THOSE EARLY DAYS. IT HAS A FEW GOOD TIPS ON COVER THRU STORIES HOWEVER THIS A REALLY DATED FOR ANY PRACTICAL USE IN CASIOS TODAY.

  3. This book does NOT contain tips on playing blackjack. Instead it is filled with stories and anecdotes of how the infamous Ken Uston used Team Play to beat the casinos out of millions of dollars. Millions. At times laugh-out-loud, occasionally boring when the courts become involved, but is quite accessible even for those with little familiarity with 21.

If you want to read about other casino shenanigans, like how some physics students put computers in their shoes and beat the roulette wheel (and still to this day receive royalty checks), grab a copy of the Eudemonic Pie. For the book that started it all: Beat the Dealer.

If you're looking to become a card counter after reading this, check out the de facto standard for any serious counter: Million Dollar Blackjack, also by Uston. Do not waste time with the others, particularly Jerry Patterson's shuffle tracking scheme.

  4. Most anything written by Ken Uston is good. Filled with stories of blackjack and card counting in the late 70's and early 80's.

  1. Jeff Meckstroth and Eric Rodwell are considered by many to be the best bridge partnership in the world. They use a highly specialized version of Precision for their bidding. So, one might expect a book by one of them to be high level and complex. On the contrary, Meckstroth has produced a book that contains example after example of common decisions that club and tournament players face all the time. He continually points out why he makes the decisions he does, as well as showing how he finds those extra chances that help make him one of the best dummy players in the world. The 4S hand from match 7 was a revelation to me in how simple the correct line is, but was something I would never have come up with.

  2. The hands were not killers, just typical hands that any abover average player can handle. The pros can handle the pressure, and make fewer mistakes. But many of the hands they encounter are not the killers found in some of the hard Test Your declarer Play type books.

Good hands, and fun to read. Good job, 2 thumbs up.

  1. In this book you will find all the casino games that most people don't really know all that well, but should. Here the author includes all those popular casino games whose players should really find out what it is that they are actually playing.

Like numbers? Here in this book you will find an analysis of the odds and house edge for all these games: Baccarat, Mini Baccarat, Roulette, Progressive Caribbean Stud, Double Down Stud, Pai Gow Poker, Three Card Poker, Caribbean Draw, Super 9's, Let It Ride and Casino War. Included as well is an analysis of card-counting for Baccarat, and two general introductory chapters on Texas Hold'Em and Seven Card Stud.

There is a lot to be gained from reading this book. Even if all you get from it is knowing how the odds and house edge in some of these games will effect you, then it is well worth the price. Just one bad bet saved from what you learn in this book will be worth more than it's cost. Even if you are just curious, this book is sure to satisfy that curiosity. There's a bunch of great information here about all these casino games. It'll open your eyes, for sure.

  2. This is a very good book for people who may be interested in playing table games like Baccarat & Mini-Baccarat & Roulette & explains it in away that's they are not too difficult to play or that you have to be rich to play them. And that they are really not hard to win playing them, DESPITE THE FACT that they are house-banked games. I also love how he explains how to play Pai Gow poker. I was always confused in playing it, even through I read many books on how to play it. It's enjoyable game & can also be very profitable too. The man does know what he's talking about since I obviously made a lot of money following his advices. His line of books are really excellent. If you have other books from him, please make sure to add this one to your collection. You won't be sorry. I'm sure not!

  3. There is no usful information that is written in this book. The book is also poorly worded. Don't waste your time or money on this book. The author provides no strategies for playing the games he talks about in this book.

  4. Casino Table Games are not just Craps, Blackjack and Roulette. There are many other games, such as Pai Gow, Let It Ride, Caribbean Stud, and so on. In this book the author does an excellent job of explaining these difficult games, and how to play them well. As you will see if you read the review by "Casino Ace", here below, you will understand the value of this book to you.

As good as this book is, I have recently noticed that there have been reviews by persons who are posting plainly incorrect and highly prejudicial and skewed negative reviews. If you read the other reviews posted here, and for this author's other works -- and the books themselves -- it is obvious that those who are posting these skewed negative "reviews" have no clue, and are trying to somehow assert themselves without understanding anything at all about the material they are criticizing.

I have reviewed a few of this author's books, and for good reason. As you can plainly see, there are many other reviewers who have agreed that this author's books are terrific, and offer great instruction and well-written commentary on the subjects under discussion. This is also the case for this book.

This author is very careful in all his books to help the readers through all the stages of the games, and everything that goes along with them.

This is a very good book, and I hope you will give yourself an opportunity to find this out for yourself.
