2 comments about Essential Guide to Keeping Goldfish (Tankmaster (Interpet Publishing)).
- This book is all right if you don't want to try to treat medical conditions yourself. The descriptions of health related conditions were incomplete, and treatment rather limited. Too much space devoted to the nitrogen/ammonia cycle, and did not give a good description or explanation of how to cycle your aquarium. Therefore, that section merely took up space. The photos are the same photos that I have seen in several other goldfish books. If you only buy one book on keeping goldfish, this wouldn't be the one I'd recommend.
- this book is very good
lots to know about Goldfish and the care of the tank.
Gets right to the point.

1 comments about Koi Appreciation: The First Step.
- Koi Appreciation: The First Step by Kate McGill is a great book. Her introduction is superb. Defining "Appreciation" by expanding upon the words appearing in the dictionary and thesaurus is simply excellent. From the personal appreciation of Koi attachment, Ms McGill expands upon the "structured" approach in the appreciation of Koi. She covers body conformation, skin quality, qualities of color, patterns, pattern edges and balance, variety characteristics, and deportment.
Then each following chapter covers the specific quality requirements relating to each specific variety of Koi. Varieties discussed are Kohaku, Taisho Sanke, Showa Sanshoku, Utsurimono, Bekko, Tancho, Asagi/Shusui, Koromo, Kin-Gin-Rin, Kawarigoi, Hikarimuji, Hikarimoyo and Hikari Utsuri. The colored Photographs are top draw. I really appreciated the photos depicting the negative qualities seen in Koi. A great learning tool. The final chapter; Beyond The First Step, covers why one Koi impacts us so. Dominating, impressing and compelling us to place it on a pedestal- to be inspired by a living art form. A great book in learning how to appreciate the qualities of Koi through the eyes of a judge.

5 comments about Complete Idiot's Guide to Saltwater Aquariums (The Complete Idiot's Guide).
- This is a GREAT book for a person who knows absolutely nothing about aquariums. It gives great details in explaining everything from beginning to completion in simple terms that anyone can understand. It was most helpful in helping to set up my first and only aquarium.
- As a novice aquarist, I have to say that this book is GREAT! Ihad read many books on the subject, but this one gave me the courageto actually set up my dream marine aquarium. It has been eight months, and I now have a tank to be proud of. It has inspired several friends and family to start their own. They also have learned a great deal from this book. It is now well worn from use. It continues to be my bible for any questions I may have.
- I have read several books, and this one was by far the easiest to read! But don't let that fool you! Despite this, it is full of great information! If you are looking into getting saltwater fish, and don't want a book which sounds like a college chemistry book, this is the one for you!
- This book was funny and informative. I read his freshwater guide and loved it. He tells lots of useful information with pictures! Read this book!!
- As a beginner in saltwater aquariums, I have bought numerous books now but this by far is the best! I got it used & cheap from a used bookstore on Amazon and it was so worth it. Its very thick and packed full of information.....information that a beginner can actually understand! And this writer is realllly funny ! I have laughed out loud reading this book. He just throws in these little wise-cracks once in awhile and it just makes it that much for fun to read. This is a must for anyone who is just starting in saltwater aquariums or considering it. In fact, buy this book 1st if you can, before you even go get your aquarium. It starts out with picking out an aquarium, what supplies you need, what not to waste your money on, then up the fish to get, what to feed them, and how to keep them healty.

5 comments about The Marine Aquarium Problem Solver: Practical & Expert Advice on Keeping Fish & Invertebrates.
- Easy to understand and utilize, sound information all presented in a clear and articulate manner. Those starting in the hobby will find this a useful tool before graduating to more complex reference books. Well presented photographs are also a added treat. The expert reef keeper however, maybe left wanting something a little more profound.
- this book has to be one of the most informative, accurate, and comprehensive book on BOTH corals and fish I could find. There were numerous occasions where we had opportunities to verify firsthand the advice contained herein, and much to our astonishment, the author was truly on point.
- This book does a wonderful job of explaining all the basics of marine fish, and reef keeping. If you want to know what all the gagets are, and what they do, this is the book for you. It gives a good general description of all the equipment and how each item is used. It does not support any one tank set up method. It throws all the information out there and lets the reader sort it out for themselves. It's also a nice quick reference for fish/invert compatibility, tank, and feeding requirements. Great for the beginner!
- This book has the same contents as "The Questions & Answers Manual of the Marine Aquarium: Practical and Expert Advice on Keeping Fish and Invertebrates" by the same author but published by Salamander Books Limited (ISBN: 0-86101-861-3).
It covers a good introduction of the various gadgets (filters, protein skimmers, ozonizers, etc.) and explains the purpose of such devices. Tank set-up and care are also covered. Common fishes and invertebrates are covered, each in two or three pages with colorful, good quality photos of the creatures. Q & A approach makes reading a breeze. Highly recommended for beginners
- It's a good book if your not looking for specific info on a specific fish or invert. This book generalize a family of fish or inverts. It has very indepth info on equipment, but has no recommend setup. This book also include some nice ideas about ridding deritus.

2 comments about Fish Behavior in the Aquarium and in the Wild (Comstock Books).
- Learn how fish hear, recognize each other, navigate around obstacles despite blindness, take care of their kids, and many other interesting facts. Reebs is a Biology professor but he saves the references for the back of the book.
Give this one to your friends who don't understand why you need a 300-gallon tank in the living room...
- This book is a must have for anyone who is interested in fish behaviour.

1 comments about Garden Ponds: Basic Pond Setup And Maintenance (Garden Ponds Made Easy Series).
- I bought this for my husband. It came with all of the pages stuck together (on the outside, not cut properly). I would have returned it, but we live in Mexico and it was shipped to Houston for him as a gift. I brought it to him here in Mexico, so the return is not possible. The content is fine, the pictures nice, but quality like that is unacceptable.

1 comments about Our Native Fishes: The Aquarium Hobbyist's Guide to Observing, Collecting, and Keeping Them : North American Freshwater and Marine Fishes.
- A classic book on the keeping of North American native fishes. Quinn provides some excellent no-nonsense information on collecting, and sucessfully keeping the more common native species. If you're into keeping gamefish like I am, this is definitely the book for you. My only problem with the book lies in the visual arena: no color photographs and grainy fish drawings. Yuck. If this book utilized color photographs to represent these fishes, then I would give it the full 5 stars. An updated re-release is desperately needed. Despite that, this is probably the greatest book on a very unorthodox hobby. Lets hope this changes soon, as fantastic surprises await many unsuspecting aquarists.
