  1. My love of Hawaiian quilting attracted me to this book and Baltimore album quilting. The instructions and patterns are clear and the designs are awesome. I particularly like the simpler patterns like double hearts, fleur-de-lis, and you are perfect (a pineapple design). I think it may be possible to machine applique as well as hand applique these designs. Of course, there are many intricate designs too--many that require rouched flowers and curved stems and intricate applique that I can only imagine being quilted by the most devoted. The directions on how to cut out the patterns with paper folding are clear and helpful. You could spend a lifetime making the quilts in this book--and what a beautiful life you'd have!

  2. This book takes you through the steps of Baltimore quilts by hand sewing. Elly is an expert and experienced historian of Baltimore quilts as well as an expert in hand piecing Baltimore quilts. At the end of the 10 lessons you become an experienced in piecing Baltimore quilts. The book includes over 50 pages of quilt patterns to piece. Have fun with this great book.

  3. This book is a real enjoyment and contains a world of knowledge regarding Baltimore Quilting. It covers all areas of information needed to take on a quilting task of this nature. Elly Sienkiewicz is a true star in her knowledge and ability to share it with the rest of the quilting world. I would highly recommend this and her other books gladly.

  4. Great book for learning the basics of a Baltimore Album Quilt in 12 lessons. Try the companion books of patterns by Elly also. This book begins slowly and continues to make you want to do more and more appliqueing.

  5. I have been looking to find this book for several years and was so happy to find it on your website! It is a great and gives good instruction on the construction of the Baltimore quilt. Also it gives a good history of this form of quiltmaking.

  1. A faster way to do applique using your sewing machine. The result is beautiful and looks like turned applique. Saves time and looks amazing.

  2. This book has some basic designs that are less intricate than the Elly Sienkiewicz type Baltimore Album quilt blocks. I liked the simplicty of design and the fresher look with modern fabrics. A good book to jump into applique.

  3. I can never find an applique' book I don't like. This is truely beautiful for country applique' quilts. Easy to follow and use. Highly recommended.

  4. I LOVED THIS BOOK. LOTS OF IDEAS, DESIGNS ARE EASY TO DO IF YOU HAVE SOME APPLIQUE EXPERIENCE. HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK.

  5. The blocks in this book are beautiful. I'm toying with making another quilt with different blocks from the book this time. If you love applique, you'll love this!

  2. She is exteremely talented. She grew up in Japan and has used these techniques for years. They are like automatic. Most people in America were not exposed to this type of crafting. I would recommend you start with a very beginners book and work up to this authors abilities if that is even possible. She is a true artisan of her native crafts and has been doing this beginning as a small child.

3 comments about Needle Felting: Simple Techniques, Beautiful Projects (That Patchwork Place).
  1. This book was a slight disappointment, as it was rather like so many on themarket, although not a brand new publication, it left new designs alone. however, for a beginner to Felted fabrics, it would be good for the very beginner.
It was colorful and as stated simpple techniques. Basic information.

  2. This book helped me when I was just starting out -I had never needle felted before and I picked up this book and one other one. Since then, I've really picked up the craft. This book really appealed to me in part because of the look of it, and the insides are just as cute. The authors have made an excellent book to introduce novices to needle felting, and in a way that makes you feel like you could come up with your own ideas and implement them, at least to play around and improve your skills.

As the last reviewer said, this book does exactly what it says it will - offers simple techniques and beautiful projects. If that's what you're looking for, this does the trick. Loved it!

  3. I purchased this book after receiving (and loving!) the other book by the same authors. The first book helped me get a handle on the skill of needle felting and now I'm seeking out new projects. This book has some of the cutest, hippest ideas! I've been using it to make gifts for friends, and no one can believe I made them myself. I would say this book has inspired creativity in me, as I've even made some changes to things after mastering them. If you knew me you'd understand, that's really something! Great for anyone interested in needle felting.

  1. This book is a wonderful toolbox for all kinds of applique, both by hand and by machine. The instructions and photos are clear, and the book is well-organized. The practice projects are even attractive. This is an excellent reference for a textile-work library.

  3. If I could have only one book on applique, this would be the one. Every question I've ever had on every technique is clearly answered and beautifully photographed. When I don't understand what another book presents, or I'm having trouble with a technique, I come back to this book.

  4. I have been doing applique for quite a while, but still find this book to be an invaluable tool. The visual's are complete and beautifully photographed, and the directions are clear and conscise. It has inspired me to use methods of applique other than the ones I've grown "comfortable" with. Everyone from beginner to expert will find this book useful.

  5. This book has lots of lovely pictures and what look like complete directions. BUT I bought this book because the reviews all said what a great book it was for beginners. As a beginner I have to say that there are *so* many details missing that I do not find that it gives me what I need to actually start applique work. I wish it did!

I am disappointed, although once I actually figure out what I am doing with applique work, maybe I will find it a valuable resource. In the mean time, I am still looking for a good starter book.
