  1. If you can't decide what kind of border to add to your quilt, read this book. It covers borders, from simple pieced to advanced appliqued designs. Find out how to make your borders fit your quilts. Sixteen patterns are included for pieced and appliqued borders. Whether you prefer beautiful floral designs, swags, or a dogtooth edge, these are just some of the designs included in this book.

  2. I really like the patterns included in this book. You can choose simple pieced designs, or some really beautiful appliqued designs for borders.

  3. I really like the patterns included in this book. You can choose from simple pieced designs or beautiful appliqued border designs.

  4. The value in this book is in Chapter 2.

Chapter 1 covers the general steps to creating a quilt. Anyone who has made a quilt will find they already know this information, but beginners might really appreciate it. (There are other books for this information, though.) Chapter 2 is where she gets into borders and it really is a "border primer". She covers every possibility from no border to stretching the design into the border, single & multiple bands, squares, triangles, and appliqued borders. In Chapter 3, she covers scalloped edging, prairie points, piping, and dogtooth edges.

Chapter 4 is the Gallery and Patterns section. As there are only 3 or 4 *pieced* border designs and since this is the lion's share of the book, I was a little disappointed. All the rest (of 17 total patterns) are for applique. Beautiful and varied, but applique is not my thing...yet.

If you're looking for some really nice applique border designs, this is definitely the book for you. Just xerox and go!

  1. Even though I teach quilting, I always begin with the general direction section of a quilt book in hopes of learning a new trick or tip. I was rewarded in 48-Hour Appliqué Quilts"! Linda Causee explained how to make mitered borders in a format that I believe even my beginning students will understand! THANK YOU, Linda. I have read other author's explanations of mitered borders but none made as much sense as Linda did. The rest f the general directions contained plenty of graphics with the explanations making them so easy to understand. This will be one book that I will use to teach to my students appliqué.

The book only contains five quilts BUT those five have 73 different blocks between them. WOW! Most are flower type of appliqués but there are 10 that as especially for children such as animals, a house, a heart and Sunbonnet Suet and Overall Bill. If you only make one of each appliqué, by the time you have those 73 squares completed, you will be proficient at appliqué.

The quilt named Hearts and Flowers has a "double" affect. While you appliqué all the hearts and flowers on the squares, the patchwork itself creates a heart. This shows how you can create a background of the very thing you are appliquéing!

Each of the five quilts has a list of materials needed, cutting directions and very simple instructions for creating the quilt itself. The general directions are where you will find the "how-to" on the appliquéing technique. Whether you want to make a quilt for a child or an adult, this book will provide everything you need to make a wonderful keepsake.

  1. Excellent book with clear instructions. I am a self-taught quilter, and found this book to be extremely helpful and straight-forward. The author walks you through several different hand and machine applique procedures. I am working on the "calandar" quilt, and am enjoying every minute of it!

  2. If you can fold and cut a snowflake, then you can make quilts from this book, with the great photographs showing how to do each step. The section on applique gives good instructions for several different techniques. Good for any level of quilter.

  1. If you're like me and love to see autumn in all its glory, you will love this book. There is something for everyone, from piecing to applique, for beginners or advanced quilters. The photographs are beautiful and the instructions are easy to follow. The book covers both traditional designs and for those that like to walk on the wild side, there is something for you also. This is the first book I have purchased that seems to have something that will please everyone. My biggest problem now is deciding which project to do first.

  2. I saw a quilt at the Quilt Beginnings (quilt store) with a quilt made from this book. It was gorgeous! They used all fabrics from one collection. It was made with lots of rectangular blocks (so it was easy to piece), with an applique border (so it looked complicated enough). I now have collected the fabrics for it, and will be making it soon for fall 2002!
