5 comments about Snippet Sensations: Fast, Fusible Fabric Art for Quilted or Framed Projects.
  1. I discovered this book after watching the author on a sewing tv program. I really like the impressionist art style and thought what a great way to combine two art forms. However, in the tv show, she showed how to make flowers. They are NOT included this book. I did make the wreath that she discusses in the book and in one afternoon, I had a beautiful wallhanging. The step by step directions are great. Don't be intimitated by the samples she gives, just go for it!!

  2. As an artist, but not a seamstress, I found this book to be very complete as far as instruction in this method of creating fabric pictures. I found the method to be very simple to create interesting, original pictures from scraps of material Having no previous experience with fusible web, I had no problem following the directions and creating enjoyable pictures to give as gifts and to sell. I was not interested in the quilting directions included, but think snippet sensations. is a marvelous new hobby anyone should be able to do with ease

  3. After receiving this book, I read it cover to cover twice! I couldn't wait to get started. This is so much fun. The author explains every step thoroughly. There are a lot of pictures to help guide one as well. Once you get started on the technique, you can't stop. I love 'painting' with fabric. This author perfected the technique. Definitely worth buying.

  4. I have had a heck of a time starting to quilt, as I am afraid of color selection, that is- until I bought this book! This is the most fun I've had in years! The designs are beautiful, fun, and belive it or not, EASY! I am just a beginner! You can complete a project in about a day! This book is fantastic! The other snippet book is wonderful too! If you don't buy these books, you are a crazy quilt!

  5. I'd been dying to make the flying eagle that's on the back cover, but I had some difficulty with the instructions, which untilmately lead to a dud project. They weren't specific about which pieces NOT to add 1/4" to, as well as the sample progression photos were not all taken of the same project. I ended up with a flying torpedo/pidgeon/hot dog because I added 1/4" to the white head & tail. The rest of it was fine. Sigh.

  1. Want to applique with the Best! Pick up the book Faces and Places: Images in Applique by Charlotte Warr Andersen. The book is a complete guide to the process that she has developed to create her wonderful pictorial quilts. Do you want to create in fabric a portrait of your loved ones? This is the book to study. Anderson's writing is concise and simple to follow with many pictures to help you see the steps. Her book starts with the basics of needleturn applique (no freezer paper), through all the details for a great finished product. It has four learning projects, patterns included. Definitely time consuming, but the results are spectacular! A phenomenal book for the quilter seriously looking for a way to portray whatever they desire, even great for a beginner who likes a challenge. It's how I got started in quilting

  2. Although the content is a bit intimidating at first, Charlotte Andersen gives detailed instructions, easy-to-understand directions, and constant encouragement. When I first leafed through the book, looking at the photos, I was convinced I'd never be able to grasp this technique, let alone master it. After reading Andersen's text and getting caught up in her infectious enthusiasm for this type of work, I'm inspired and ready to make magic. A must-have for any quilter ready for something completely different from the old nine-patch block.

  3. I feel like a 5 year old with a new toy. This book is sooo cool. I am making a portrait of my grandparents using the instructions in this book. I am a very novice quilter, and I am able to understand the directions. Worth the money.

  1. This is by far the most helpful book I have when it comes to doing realistic pictorial quilts. There are so many details and tips about how to make features, hands, fur, and more look more lifelike...those alone are worth the purchase price. Although the author sews as she goes and I use the fusible web technique, there is no conflict. I find myself turning to this book again and again to help me solve problems. The author goes into some detail about how to draw features so that they can be easily rendered in fabric...there is a fascinating quiz where you match a drawn outline of ears, eyes, nose, or mouth with the photo from which it came. Comparing the drawings with the photos was a very instructive exercise. If you want to create realistic picture quilts that contain people or animals, this is the number one book to have!

  2. This is an excellent book. I'll keep it forever as a reference book. It arrived in perfect shape and in a short time from when ordered. Thank You.

  3. This is a great book. Charlotte brings people to life in her quilts. I am truly amazed and inspired by her work. She guides you thru the process to approaching quilt making with her techniques. I am still working on making my first face quilt and although it takes some work...it is well worth it if you are interested in this kind of quilt art. Another great book i am happy to own.

  4. Exceptional simple explanation and illustrations. A valuable addition to my library

  5. This product is good if you have already ready Charlotte's first book. It is not enough otherwise.

5 comments about Hawaiian Applique.
  1. This book has everything you need to know to make your first Hawaiian quilt - history, Hawaiian terminology, techniques from start to finish, and gorgeous patterns to choose from. Hawaiian quilts are a unique quilting tradition; appliques based on island nature, cut using a snowflake folding method and generally quilted with radiating "echo" lines. Books on this technique are few and far between, and this one is excellent. Aloha and happy quilting!

  2. This book has very clear and easy directions and patterns for making Hawaiian or appliqued quilts. Well written and lots of ideas for projects large and small.

  3. This book is well written. Vicky Fleming tells us about the history of Hawaiian quilting. The rules, Hawaiian words and phrases, colors and symbols of Hawaiian quilting. She tells us how to plan a quilt and how to applique and how to quilt it. There are many patterns to choose from. I'd like to make them all. I highly recommend this book.

  4. Havent done anything yet from this book but I will use it, either for the designs or just add information. This is quit a technique.

  5. Looking for a quick reference on Hawaiian applique and quilting? This book is perfect, as well as providing background history of Hawaiian quilting and the traditions connected with Hawaii. Beautiful illustrations enliven this valuable resource.
