5 comments about Fine Embellishment Techniques: Classic Details for Today's Clothing.
- This book arrived in fast time and in good condition. I was surprised at how quickly I received the item.
- I was a bit disappointed in this book. The designs are not very modern nor old in a cool way. I don't think the techniques shown are very creative, but if you are looking for standard simple techniques like simple ways of applying beads or how to do binding and piping, this book is for you. I think there's too much text and not enough pictures.
- If anyone wanted to research early 1990's fashion for a Beverly Hills 90210/Wilson Phillips/Shanice/Alannah Myles/Milli Vanilli biographical movie, take a look at the photographs in this book. The pictures are awfully dated but the techniques are less dated. Why do designers get caught up in such non classic fabrics and colors (sandwashed silk and purple with red)? Still a useful book too if you want to set up a hippie craft stall at your local bazaar.
- This book was pretty ordinary, if you've been embellishing cloth/clothing for any length of time. I bought it hoping for inspiration, but there was no inspiration to be had. Not only that, of the things that were included, I would never use. Today's clothing? Hardly. The techniques/effects were more suitable to vintage sewing than modern. If you must, buy this used, and then pass it along to others. In fact, I'll sell you my copy.
- This is a lovely book for those who are interested in fabric imbellishment. I was looking for something a bit more contemporary and elaborate, but this book has enough to keep me busy for a while.

4 comments about Color-Palette Applique: Winter in the Garden (That Patchwork Place).
- I am very happy with this pattern. I have to admit though I didn't read the details of this item when I ordered it, I just loved the image and so when I opened the package I was expecting a book. It is not a book it is a pattern with a 4 page booklet. The patterns are full size. (Yeah!!)
That is all I need and Sheila gives all the details you need in those 4 pages. The quilt is beautiful and I can't wait to get started.
If you are a beginner in applique and you are looking for instructions on how to applique you won't find that here.
I personally like this because I am not paying for 50 pages of beginner how to. These remind me of the pattern packs "That Patchwork Place" used to sell in the 90's. This is better, comes in a nice full color envelope.
- I am finding more quilt patterns are coming like dress patterns--- in a self-contained envelope - plasticized and made of cardboard rather than paper - that is re-sealable. Each envelope contains all the instructions on large sheets of paper that can be taped to a wall or pinned to a bulletin board. This prevents your instructions from becoming lost in the maze of fabric you're working with.
The appliqué patterns are at full size so no copying is needed. You can take the pattern out of the envelope and start right in on creating your own winter garden. The directions for creating "Winter in the Garden" are well written and have various tips such as how to do mitered corners and the best way to cut your fabric. A color photo of the finished quilt is in the directions and, of course, on the envelope itself.
A bonus booklet is included with this pattern. "Color-Palette Appliqué" explains what a color palette is and how the author used it in creating this project. If you read through this booklet before beginning your quilt, it will explains all the codes used in the directions.
If you are an avid gardener or know someone who is, this quilt is one that will keep the summer blooms alive all year long. Make it for yourself or as a gift and the summer colors will brighten the room as well as keep a body warm.
- I love this gorgeous pattern which comes with very clear instructions and advice as to how to make this quilt. I love applique as it is small enough to carry with me when I am out and want something to work on. I love working on it in the car while riding, and I work on it during my lunch break. Although I enjoy machine quilting and piecing I love the portability of this as well.

- This is a wonderful pattern. I was expecting a book not a envelope of patterns but it was really great, The pattern is ready to use you don't have to enlarge so you can use it. I'm extremely happy with the way Amazon handled the order. With the first order not getting here. They made sure the second got here the next day. Thank you so much YOUR GREAT.

5 comments about 501 Quilt Blocks: A Treasury of Patterns for Patchwork & Appliqué.
- There is only one thing I don't like about this book: It is so much fun to look at and read, I'll NEVER get around to cutting and sewing. But if I ever do make any of the fabulous blocks in this book, I am going to come out with fabulous quilts, hangings, table runners, and anything else I want. There are a few projects in here too, and the instructions and photos and pictures are all clear, concise and fun. I love this book, for the blocks and for the inspiration.
- I received this book in top condition and withing 10 days of ordering. Thank you!
- Useful book with multitude of block patterns - I like especially the variety of applique designs. I have one problem: the binding is too tight to enable proper photocopying of designs on inside of pages, a nuisance when you want to enlarge a pattern.
- this is the top of the line in patterns. Service from Amazon couldn't be better. One happy customer.
- Although strip quilting is my favorite type of quilting, this book was inspiring enough that I did a quilt for a classroom and had each student picked out a favorite block. The instructions on how to make the block were good. Although I thought making pieced blocks would be too difficult, it was surprising to me how easy it was to make some really cute blocks. Pieced patchwork blocks may not be my favorite but I now consider them to be attractive and fun.

5 comments about Adventure & Applique: Traveling the World With Award-winning Quilter Suzanne Marshall.
- I buy a good number of quilting books each year, and this is one of my absolute favorites. It was not only inspiring to me as a quilter, but it was very interesting to read the story of each quilt. Ms. Marshall's quilts are spectacular. I also like the format she uses, showing what comments were made by judges for each of the works shown. I highly recommend this wonderful book.
- This is a lovely book. Not really a how-to book. More of I-wish-I-could-do book. This is a very talented lady who does exquisite work. The book is full of wonderful pictures of her quilts, along with judges' comments about those quilts from quilt shows (which are incredibly picky and have confirmed my decision NEVER to enter a juried show!). There is a lot of inspiration here and a lot of practical advice too. I bought her Take Away Applique book years ago and found it very helpful. There is a section of this book that explains the take-away technique. If you applique or aspire to applique, give this book a try.
- i was very fortunate to be able to take a class with suzanne marshall last year at the vermont quilt festival ,she is an out standing teacher very down to earth and all an-all a great person ,never the less i was a little apprehensive to order her new book because i had taken hands on class with her thinking it might be alot of the same but it truly is worth it's weight in gold and even though the cover may make her work look hard she explains everything in such detail i would recommend this book for beginners ....
- Another beautiful book from Suzanne Marshall, who is, without doubt, one of the premier hand quilters of this generation. Her patterns and methods are without peer. Definitely a book everyone interested in quilting and applique should have on the bookshelf.
Sara
- Award-winning quilter Suzanne Marshall shares her applique techniques and tips on how to make a quilting project outstanding, surveying unique methods not to be found elsewhere. 5 comments about Piece by Piece: Machine Applique.
- Loved the ideas, and will try this technique as soon as I can gather my supplies. However, I fell in love with the quilt, and she doesn't discuss her unusual corded border. The quilt is wonderful, but the border makes it stunning.
- The instructions are great, step by step color photos, catering for the beginner up to the advanced quilter, there are good tips and ideas, and the quilt on the front is the pattern inside.
- This is everything the reviews said it was, I bought 2 and gave one to a friend. She has not done applique at this point, now she is excited,I am a needle turn person and this is the first time I have seen machine applique that I will try.Sharon is a great talent and this will make you want to seek out her work and if you are very lucky take a class from her.
This is a must have to anyone who loves quilting!
- The most informative and inspirational book for a long time.
Very good detailed pictures and wonderful instructions. Pure drool
material looking at what Sharon has made. She is a master!
If you want to make an amazing quilt buy this book!!!
- Step-by-step, detailed instructions with outstanding photos that demonstrate each step. By using this method, a beginner could produce results formerly achieved only by an experienced quilter.

5 comments about Mastering Machine Applique: The Complete Guide Including Invisible Machine Applique, Satin Stitch, Blanket Stitch and Much More.
- This book is by far the best I've read for learning machine applique.
There's lots of great information about thread, needles, and other tools needed.
I consider this a "must have" for any quilter's library.
- This was the first quilt I machine appliqued and I found this book to be a great asset. It explains everything you need to know about every phase of the project from start to finish. I was very impressed with the results and didn't encounter any frustration in the process.
- Mastering Machine Applique: The Complete Guide Including Invisible Machine Applique, Satin Stitch, Blanket Stitch and Much More
If I could only purchase one book about machine applique, this would be my choice. Harriet goes into excellent detail about adjusting and setting up the sewing machine for applique, explains how to select and use necessary supplies, and provides clear, detailed instructions and step by step photos for a variety of styles of machine applique.
Harriet fills in the missing blanks left in many other resources and goes beyond the basics, while being clear enough for a beginner to use. I highly recommend this book.
- This is a very lovely book, it has great pictures lots of examples, easy instruction and many tips. there is something for sewer's of all levels.
- Really informative! A must have for your library! The author carefully, thoroughly explains EVERYTHING for all skill levels. Beautiful pictures highlight the steps. I appreciate that this book is spiral bound; makes instructions easier to access as you learn the technique. I have been sewing clothing for many years and just started quilting. This book is so helpful on many levels, (needles, thread, stabilizers, techniques); your projects will immediately take on the look of a highly skilled crafter. I consider her THE expert on this topic; machine appliqué from A-Z is all here. Highly recommended!!

5 comments about Applique the Basics and Beyond: The Complete Guide to Successful Machine and Hand Techniques with Dozens of Designs to Mix and Match.
- will be able to learn from and expand the skills I have HERE IT IS: APPLIQUÉ: THE BASICS AND BEYOND. It will be my Bible when I appliqué!
The very first thing that caught my attention was the fact it was done in a spiral ring binding. This allows the book to STAY open which is very important for me as I am sewing and learning at the same time. I no longer have to set weights on the corners of the pages to keep them open. As a visual learner, this is very important.
The book is arranged in five chapters which include: Getting Started - Basics and Beyond, Equipment and Supplies, Preparing Appliqué, Projects and Patterns. Each chapter is very detailed with lots of photos to guide you along with the written instructions. There are tips scattered throughout each section as well.
The Embellishing chapter is jam packed with ideas on how to add that special touch to your project. From cords to beads to embroidery, there is an embellishment that will give your piece a bit of pizzazz.
There are eight different projects but using you own imagination and creativity, you will be able to create dozens of other projects. Five are wall-sized projects and three are quilt-sized. The projects give a difficulty level so you are sure to try the project that is appropriate for your skill level. Then once you have completed a lower level, you can give the next level project a try. All the templates are full-sized so you don't have to make a trip to the copy shop.
A two-page index helps you locate whatever you need to review or learn and the final page is a bio about the author, Janet Pittman. All in all, this book is one that I would highly recommend to anyone because you can add to your present skills or start to learn how. It is definitely a book that will remain in my sewing room library.
- This a great book for the novice as well as one who has had some experience with applique. It provides some basic ideas for doing applique work but then goes further into more sophisticated ideas and projects for using this technique. If you're a novice or just interested in exploring applique, this is a good buy since it takes you beyond the basics and provides some "seeds" that could germinate into creative applique.
- I own several books on applique, but will probably never use them again. This one has it all! Great photos and easy intructions for every method and then some. A must have for anyone who sews or quilts.
- This book has just about everything you need to learn how to Applique If you are Right-Handed as all of the people that wrote six star reviews must be. There are no instructions whatsoever for the left-handed person.
- This book is great for the beginner or advanced sewer. It shows many ways of applique that all make sense. This book has clear illustrations and wonderful pictures. There are detailed instructions that are clear and easy to follow.
