  1. This is a excellent item. We went on a fishing trip and it kept my daughter's insullin pump and her insulin cold all day. I'm glad I bought this and will probably purchase other Frio products.

  2. Awesome product. No more cooked insulin in my pump on hot days in the sun. It really does stay cold for several days. Be careful not to remove it from water too soon as it will not be as effective.

  3. I stumbled upon this item and it is the best. I have used an insulin pump for close to 10 years and have always struggled with keeping it cool in the summer especially at the beach. This wallet works great. It is easy to prepare and stays cool for as long as they say. Try it!!!

  4. I have been a diabetic for two years and most of that time I was in a hot climate. After having my insulin go bad a few times do to heat exposure, I was always looking for ways to keep my supplies cool when I was outside. Since I started using the Frio things are so much easier! No more bulky ice packs or asking venders for a cup of ice. I like that it is easy to use, it is activated by water, and you can use it over and over. I am glad I found a product that really works!

  1. This set was intended to house 7 days worth of vitamins and supplements. The idea is great but the individual compartments (4 per 1 day container) are too small to hold the 00 sized capsules. I can fit one 00 but nothing else or I can fit the smaller caps but no 00's. This would be perfect if your scrips or supplements are all small form factor pills.

  1. I take insulin before dinner, and use this case when I am leaving the house for an entire day, and need to carry a needle for the pre-dinner dose.

    Pros:
    1. The size of the case is great. It holds 100ml needles, and they fit comfortably even with the plunger pulled back pretty far. This was one of the things I was worried about, since the online info gives no hint about this.
    2. The case is sturdy enough, and the needles are fit in with elastic, so there seems little danger of them being discharged while carrying them. I have had this case in my backpack for some pretty rugged hikes with no issues.
    3. The "blue ice" packet that comes with it fits great, and keeps the hypo cool, but not freezing.

    Cons:
    1. The ice packet does not last long enough. On a hot day (mid-90's), I usually park in the shade, and keep the case under the seat. The ice pack keeps things cool for about 5 hours. I could really use another 3 hours or so to get me from when I leave the house to dinner time. I ordered an extra ice-pack, and with two ice packs, it seems to just make it.
    2. The case has a separate compartment for the ice pack, which keeps it from coming in contact with the needle. This keeps the insulin from freezing, which is something to avoid. The problem is that if you use the second ice pack, you have to jerry-rig something to keep the second ice-pack from coming in contact with the needle, which will freeze the insulin. I had a friend sew a nylon pouch for me, and that works ok, although it is just not as elegant as it could be.
I also tried putting the second ice pack inside the case, and then putting the needles in their own container. A toothbrush travel tube works great. The only problem is that the needle can move around, and potentially discharge when the case gets bumped. I am sure you could foam-pad your way around this problem, but again, that is what I bought this thing for in the first place.

    Overall

Overall, it provides good mechanical protection, and is in a reasonable form factor. I am a little disappointed with the thermal performance in that it seems to fail what would be a fairly typical real-world trial. On the other hand, it is $15.

There are several other compartments and straps designed for insulin pens and other thing-a-ma-bobs, but I don't use them, so not sure how well they work.

A holder for id and emergency info would have been a nice touch.

A meter, logbook, or a copy of War and Peace are not likely to fit. A tube of glucose gel, or a pack of life-savers fit just fine.

As discussed above, consider ordering the spare ice-pack with the case.

5 comments about Frio Cooling Wallet - LARGE -Keep insulin cool up to 45 hrs without EVER needing refrigeration!.

  1. I bought htis recently for my parents and find this very useful. This holds cool for two days (believe me.. 48 hours full) despite out heat beat trip in our car. Amust for anyone who wishes to keep medicines cool and stable. I will recommend this for anyone.

  2. I have had nothing but good luck with my Frio. It has gone with me to Britain, Italy, and in the next few months will accompany me to Poland and Greece. I have also taken it camping with me in the North Carolina summer heat without any problem at all. It has always remained cool inside, regardless of the outside temperature, for at least 48 hours (usually longer) before I have to recharge it. It is now four years old and, while it takes a bit longer than ten minutes for the initial charge, still working as well as before.

  3. I've used this wallet in high temperatures. Keeping it inside a hot car with windows rolled up during very hot days. The inside of the pack always stayed cool. Been using it daily for around a year now. I don't use it with the outer cover though.

  4. Used as directed and lost 3 pens when the temperature hit 100 degrees. Foolish me, I kept thinking that the error was mine. We had a small and a large pack. The small pack was essentially worthless, the larger pack seemed to be large enough to keep for for last for a few hours. Works great as long as the temp doesn't go much over the recommended maximum temperature for your insulin and/or you keep it cool by adding some kind of ice pack. If you're expecting the answer to having to carry around all the stuff...this isn't necessarily going to be it.

  5. It's by far the easiest way to keep supplies cool for a long period of time. I simply drop it into cold water when it becomes smaller and it's reloaded to continue cooling. Great for work and traveling. I use it every day!

5 comments about Frio Cooling Wallet - DUO PEN - Keep insulin cool up to 45 hours without EVER needing refrigeration!.

  1. My wife, Clara and I took a trip to Seatle, WA and we were concern of the long hours in airports and planes carrying her insulin, wondering how to keep it cool. She even considered not taking the insulin on the trip. Quick thinking, I searched for products that I could purchased quickly and I came across the Frio Cooling DOU PEN Wallet. The product description sold me on it and it worked as descrived and as expected. Clara recommends it!

  2. This wallet has made my life a lot better. No more worrying about where my pens are or if they are staying "cool". This is a great thing for those of us who need insulin daily and have to worry about keeping it cool after we take it out of the refridgerator.

  3. I bought a Frio wallet and followed all of the instructions (there aren't many instructions). I always kept it in a place where the air circulates. Within four months, it became moldy and smelled like dirty wet socks. The gel failed to expand, hence, no cooling.
I called the distributor who acknowledged that she had the same problem, but there was nothing she could do for me.
Buying a Frio is like throwing $25-30 dollars down the toilet.

  4. Makes taking medicine easy while traveling. I recomend this product to anyone who wants to leave home.
