5 comments about Frio Cooling Wallet - LARGE -Keep insulin cool up to 45 hrs without EVER needing refrigeration!.
- I bought htis recently for my parents and find this very useful. This holds cool for two days (believe me.. 48 hours full) despite out heat beat trip in our car. Amust for anyone who wishes to keep medicines cool and stable. I will recommend this for anyone.
- I have had nothing but good luck with my Frio. It has gone with me to Britain, Italy, and in the next few months will accompany me to Poland and Greece. I have also taken it camping with me in the North Carolina summer heat without any problem at all. It has always remained cool inside, regardless of the outside temperature, for at least 48 hours (usually longer) before I have to recharge it. It is now four years old and, while it takes a bit longer than ten minutes for the initial charge, still working as well as before.
- I've used this wallet in high temperatures. Keeping it inside a hot car with windows rolled up during very hot days. The inside of the pack always stayed cool. Been using it daily for around a year now. I don't use it with the outer cover though.
- Used as directed and lost 3 pens when the temperature hit 100 degrees. Foolish me, I kept thinking that the error was mine. We had a small and a large pack. The small pack was essentially worthless, the larger pack seemed to be large enough to keep for for last for a few hours. Works great as long as the temp doesn't go much over the recommended maximum temperature for your insulin and/or you keep it cool by adding some kind of ice pack. If you're expecting the answer to having to carry around all the stuff...this isn't necessarily going to be it.
- It's by far the easiest way to keep supplies cool for a long period of time. I simply drop it into cold water when it becomes smaller and it's reloaded to continue cooling. Great for work and traveling. I use it every day!

5 comments about Frio Cooling Wallet - INDIVIDUAL-Keep insulin cool up to 45 hrs without EVER needing refrigeration!.
- This product is awesome. I travel a lot & there is no more fooling around with ice & wrapping the bottles so they do not freeze. I've also had insulin freeze before while in motel freezers before because the setting on fridge wasn't adjusted correctly. Not a problem or worry now. I do volunteer trips to disaster areas & have had my ice packs thrown out or misplaced in the freezer by others....not knowing my situation. I can keep the Frio with my stuff until I'm ready to travel again. I just soak it in water & it's ready. There is no thawing on long car trips or flights!
- This is the 2nd pouch that I have ordered. It is the right size to fit in your purse and keeps the insulin pen cool. I purchased another brand (poucho) and was very disapointed...the cooling pouch only lasted for several months. The previous Frio pouch I had lasted over a year....the one drawback to these pouches is that when you need a new one you have to purchase the whole package, when the outer cover is still in good shape. This product should be offered as a package or as individual items.
- I spent 60 days on the road on my motorcycle. I didn't think I could go 60 days camping with out airconditioning. Shade and air flow were the key, I had no problems with insulin going bad, not one of the 2 vials and 2 pens I took with me.
- Used as directed and lost 3 pens when the temperature hit 100 degrees. Foolish me, I kept thinking that the error was mine because of all the supposed reviews about how great this item is in hot weather. - Was diappointed in how tight a Opticlik insulin pen fits in case, causes gell to seep from seams, needs to be bigger.

- Ignore the one star. I would have loved to love this product but unfortunately, it never arrived. I was very disappointed because I wasn't able to find anything like it on the internet or in the stores and it looked like it would be exactly what I wanted. Thankfully, Amazon was very quick to credit my account once I complained that I had been billed but never received the product.
- it's very easy to keep in the freezer and grab it when you need it, i wont be taking the time to get a small cooler together if i need to leave the house for a few hours. It does stay cold for about 8hours on an average 75 F day if you dont let it sit in the sun. very happy with it, especially for the price
- i purchased this product to go to flordia and i was overall stasified it did not keep as cold as i thought it says 8 to 12 hours but i think in flordia temps in august it is more like 5 to 8 hours instead but it did help us to stay at universal studios all morning then break in afternoon refreeze the pack then go out at night

- The case is a little big to carry around when You just want to carry a couple of needles and a bottle of insulin. It does keep cool for about 4 hours but not all day in hot weather. When the weather cools a little I'm asure things will improve.
- I take insulin before dinner, and use this case when I am leaving the house for an entire day, and need to carry a needle for the pre-dinner dose.
Pros:
1. The size of the case is great. It holds 100ml needles, and they fit comfortably even with the plunger pulled back pretty far. This was one of the things I was worried about, since the online info gives no hint about this.
2. The case is sturdy enough, and the needles are fit in with elastic, so there seems little danger of them being discharged while carrying them. I have had this case in my backpack for some pretty rugged hikes with no issues.
3. The "blue ice" packet that comes with it fits great, and keeps the hypo cool, but not freezing.
Cons:
1. The ice packet does not last long enough. On a hot day (mid-90's), I usually park in the shade, and keep the case under the seat. The ice pack keeps things cool for about 5 hours. I could really use another 3 hours or so to get me from when I leave the house to dinner time. I ordered an extra ice-pack, and with two ice packs, it seems to just make it.
2. The case has a separate compartment for the ice pack, which keeps it from coming in contact with the needle. This keeps the insulin from freezing, which is something to avoid. The problem is that if you use the second ice pack, you have to jerry-rig something to keep the second ice-pack from coming in contact with the needle, which will freeze the insulin. I had a friend sew a nylon pouch for me, and that works ok, although it is just not as elegant as it could be.
I also tried putting the second ice pack inside the case, and then putting the needles in their own container. A toothbrush travel tube works great. The only problem is that the needle can move around, and potentially discharge when the case gets bumped. I am sure you could foam-pad your way around this problem, but again, that is what I bought this thing for in the first place.
Overall
Overall, it provides good mechanical protection, and is in a reasonable form factor. I am a little disappointed with the thermal performance in that it seems to fail what would be a fairly typical real-world trial. On the other hand, it is $15.
There are several other compartments and straps designed for insulin pens and other thing-a-ma-bobs, but I don't use them, so not sure how well they work.
A holder for id and emergency info would have been a nice touch.
A meter, logbook, or a copy of War and Peace are not likely to fit. A tube of glucose gel, or a pack of life-savers fit just fine.
As discussed above, consider ordering the spare ice-pack with the case.
