5 comments about Kaito KA404 Emergency Hand Crank Dynamo 5-LED Flashlight with AM/FM radio.
- It seems to work just fine, although the charge on the LED light doesn't last too long. Still, it's just a hand-crank away from shining brightly again. The 3-LED and 5-LED option included on the same flashlight are a nice way of being able to adjust the level of light that is needed. I've also had the "shaker" model of flashlight and it just seemed like it was more effort than the crank type of flashlight and that they often couldn't come equipped with additional features such as a radio due to the rapid shaking required for them. Also, I like that the crank feature is easy for a child to use. This is not a very expensive item so it makes a good gift, but you do get what you pay for which means this is mostly lightweight plastic and I think I had one of the knobs unscrew after a short while. For the price, you get a lot, though, and it's cheap enough to warrant purchase for the home and the car.
- This product is okay for an emergency, and it is convenient to not need batteries. The light could be brighter.
- Great product. I mainly use it to hang in my tent and read under. This is very light weight and lasts. The radio actually picks up stations even in some remote places. I'm looking forward to finding the right adapter to charge my cell phone.
- Since I got it, I left it in my car, only one night I felt it is absolutely a need on the road ! It helps me when I crank it and light the area I need to see...
It is a great flashlight and great radio !
- This is a mediocre product. The idea is great but the actual product is poor. The LED is very dim and blue. The cell phone charger is a good idea but without the right tips, not useful plus according to the instructions you may only have 5-10 minutes of charge. And only China would make a product for which you have to actually scout around to buy the electic adapter.

5 comments about American Red Cross ARC1006 Auto Heater/Defroster.
- For $12.14 I think this is a great little heater. It will not give you a blast furnace rush of heat like some seem to expect, as if it would replace your cars heater core. If you want that kind of heat then spend the big bucks and have it fixed. I can't afford to, so I plan on getting 2 of these since my heater core is on the blink in my truck. For poor folk like me its a bargain!
- Plug in for instant heat! It has just a fan or both fan and heat. Defrosts quickly and takes the chill out of the old VW Pop Top Camper quickly. It is also pretty quiet. Mounting bracket it simple. Great For what I need it for.
- It certainly warms my van without the engine being warm like it advertises and in ten minutes...Just give it a chance to work for you..it did great when the Bay Area in Northern California dipped in temperature just this last winter...it does everything it says it does and just one bad review of this product did not stop me..give it a chance...the vendor(do not know the vendor name} is FAST and reliable-it came in less than a week...
- Although small and not having high heat output, provides good backup for the money. Can assist for Rear Window Defroster when placed close to glass. -I used 2 units, one on each side, for backup heat. Small size makes installation location easy; Fused, low power drain allows for continous use.
-
The heater is not very powerful. It only defrosted a small 8" - 10" circle on the windshield. It does knock off the chill inside the vehicle, but does not warm it by any means.

5 comments about First Aid Only Outdoor First Aid Kit, Soft Case, 205-Piece Kit.
- The First Aid Only Outdoor First Aid Kit was great! Everything that's needed for an on-the-go preparedness kit. I kept it in my van for use in emergencies. Thank goodness there weren't any, but to know that it's available made me feel better. My wife and daughter will be taking it on a class field trip...just in case! I would highly recommend this first aid kit to everyone!
- My husband goes camping a lot and he has training in first aid. When I got this first aid kit he said it was very complete and is a very good kit to keep in the auto or to have along when you go camping! Great product! And I loved the handy carrying case
- This is a great outdoor first-aid kit. I was impressed with how comprehensive and compact it is. The small pouch has many compartments to keep the contents organized and easy to find. It's a great first-aid kit to keep in the car. I like the fact that it is geared for outdoors. It contains all the essentials such as band-aids, antiseptic wipes, and some extras that are nice to have -- such as sunblock and lip ointment. It also contains an easy-to-follow first-aid instruction book. I also like the fact that it's packaged in bright colors to make it easy to find quickly in an emergency.
- This is a well thought out first-aid kit. It comes in a blue waterproof pack. Very sturdy. It's filled with everything that I would need in an emergency: ice pack, scissors, plastic tweezers, bandages, creams, ointments, gloves, etc... Things that if I were packing, I'd forget. It also comes with a first-aid guide for quick reference, just in case. I recommend that everyone have a first-aid kit available.
- This first aid kit is a must-have for everyone. This kit has everything: first-aid guide, bandages (all sizes), cold compress, scissors, tape, safety pin, rubber glove, etc... All of these are stored in a very nice zipper bag. This first aid kit would be nice to keep in the car or in the house. If you have small children, like I do (or even grandchildren) this item is a must-have. I'd highly recommend purchasing this first aid kit. It's awesome!!

- I hope I never need it but after much research I decided this is the best hemostatic agent available.
- I have added this to my emergency car kit. Hope I never need it but will be thankfull if ever needed.
- I have not had the chance to use this product personally in the field. However, the feedback from others has been very positive. This gives you the advantages of quickclot without the side effects.
- Shell-based blood clotter works without heat
By Kelly Kennedy - Staff writer
Posted : Saturday Feb 10, 2007 13:21:15 EST
A scientist walking down a beach in Washington state noticed lots of crabs with no legs -- but none of them showed any signs of bleeding.
Most animals that lose a limb tend to bleed again after the initial injury, so the scientist wondered why the crabs had such clean wounds.
The answer: Most animals don't have shells.
"It was the chitosan in the shells," explained Limor Shemer, spokesperson for Celox. "It stopped the bleeding."
The crustaceans' natural body armor now serves a similar purpose for soldiers and Marines in Iraq and Afghanistan through a new quick-clot agent, Shemer said.
"The feedback's been very positive," she said. "It doesn't heat up."
Unlike other quick-clot products troops have been using in the battle zone, the seashell product -- called Celox -- doesn't depend on the blood's natural clotting agent to work. Instead, the seashells bind with the person's blood to create a clot.
That's important, because other blood-clotting agents, such as QuikClot, can heat up to temperatures of 230 degrees Fahrenheit -- enough to cause a second-degree burn. However, Z-Medica, the manufacturer of QuickClot, released a new product in September, QuikClot ACS+ -- a clotting sponge that does not heat up enough to burn the injured person.
Celox also can be used on heparinized blood, or blood that has been treated so that it won't clot on its own.
While HemCon -- which is standard issue for troops in combat zones -- also uses chitosan, studies have shown it doesn't work as well to prevent bleeding because it is a dressing. Celox, which comes in granules, is poured directly onto a wound, and therefore works well on deep or arterial wounds, Shemer said.
Scientists at the Portsmouth Naval Center, N.H., applied Celox granules, HemCon bandages or QuikClot granules to pigs with severed blood vessels in their thighs after letting the animals bleed for three minutes. The study found that Celox reduced bleeding to nothing, HemCon to 33 percent and QuikClot to 8 percent, as opposed to a standard dressing, which brought bleeding down by 50 percent.
"Although all three agents were superior to standard dressing with regard to re-bleed, only Celox improved survival in a lethal hemorrhagic groin injury compared to standard dressing," wrote Lt. Cmdr. Buddy Kozen in a letter about the study.
Celox was approved by the FDA in June, and has been used in the war zones by Special Forces medics since September, Shemer said.
Studies also found that even if Celox gets wet or is kept in humid conditions, it may get clumpy, but it still works. It can also be easily rinsed from the wound, Shemer said.

2 comments about AAA 121-Piece Road Trip First Aid Kit.
- The AAA 121 kit has the basics that you might need while on the road: scissors , tweezers, vinyl gloves, a whistle - but not loud enough to be an emergency whistle, some Q-tips, sting relief pads, antispetic and alcohol wipes, 2 triangular bandages, a 5" x 9" dressing, a mix of bandages, a small collection of sterile gauze pads, and a roll of gauze with tape. It comes in a nice hard shell case that zips up around the edge.
If you're really going to carry it on the road for emergencies, consider supplementing it with a few additional items including: pain killers, a SAM splint, a heavier pair of scissors, a cold pack, and a few trauma dressings.
Overall, it's is a decent low-cost first aid kit that gets you started on having useful emergency supplies in your car. I include it in the Disaster Preparedness Auto Kits that I sell.
Written by Arthur Bradley, author of "Process of Elimination" - an intense thriller that pits a martial artist against a world-class sniper out to shape the next presidential election.
Please be kind enough to indicate if reviews are helfpul.
- While you get a lot of product for the price and a convenient bag, I was disappointed that it does not come with an ice pack (they stuck a little sticker on the outside stating that due to shipping, they are unable to include the ice pack and instead added a few more ban-aids). There is a lot of stuff.

5 comments about Adventure Medical Kits Pocket Survival Pack.
- This product is really great, I own three now - one for the backpack and 1 in each car. The quality of all the items is really excellent, and at $21.25 (for subscription customers) its a smokin' deal.
I would recommend this for anyone who wants to spend time in the woods, including boy scouts on "great adventures", kids who like to explore, and of course for more serious people like myself who like to get away from civilization on backpacking trips.
Buy this, and spend 15 minutes getting to know the parts and how to use them, and it could really save your life. Of course, you should add a small flashlight, small knife, and it would be useful if you were carrying a metal pot to boil water when you are out there in the woods...
But with this kit, you've solved 90% of your problems.
- As a Volunteer Search And Rescue team leader and someone who has spent a lot of time of in the field, I recognize good gear when I see and handle it. The selection of items Doug Ritter personally picked (and in some cases worked with companies to have made) is incredibly well thought out and, almost more important, it is all of high quality. Perhaps the best thing about this kit is that you might actually have it with you when you need it - that part is up to you, but carrying this is no imposition. If you do need it, you can count on what is there to work.
You should consider also carrying a small first aid kit (into which you've put any personal meds). One of the Adventure Medical Pocket first aid kits will fill the bill for this purpose. With only minimal additional gear (knife, map, water, something to eat as a start) you'd be pretty well set for an active day hike - perhaps more.
But anyone can carry at least this small kit basically everywhere. Do your local SAR team a favor: don't get lost without these items! If you can be heard, stay warm, and attract attention you make it much more likely that you'll be found. This kit make all that -and more- possible!
- I think this survival kit deserves another 5-star review. At 3.9 oz., this kit is small, and that's a good thing to me. It's amazing how much stuff is in this little bag. All of the items are of the best quality. The signal mirror is beautiful. The inclusion of a lens magnifier is something I haven't seen in almost any other kit (great backup for fire starting). I know the firestarter that comes with it is normally about $8 just by itself. I just tried out the Fox 40 Micro whistle, and it's so loud, my ears started ringing (be careful). For a complete personal kit, I would recommend adding a knife, light, survival blanket, water purification tablets, wire saw, and a water bag. For the price, you can't get a better survival kit than this. I am really impressed by the quality here. My only minor complaint is that I wish they made the bag that the items come in a little bigger. I have trouble fitting everything in there properly and keeping it closed after I've taken items out and tried to get everything back in. That's almost not even worth mentioning though because this kit is excellent. I've bought other kits before... the kinds that tell you they have a signal mirror until you find out they mean the inside of the tin can the items come in. Not cool. This AMK Pocket Survival Pack is the best.
- Doug Ritter and his foundation, Equipped to Survive, has come up with a very economic method to equip yourself and your family with an emergency kit. It is small enough to carry unnoticed in a pocket, yet fully functional.
Although you can control the amount of certain items if you put together your own kit (something of a rite of passage among the survivalists/emergency preparedness folk), I spent twice as much putting together a comparable kit. The military issue sparklite and tinder-quick, Fox-40 whistle, and Rescue Flash signal mirror alone could cover the cost of the kit and they are all top notch gear. This pack is extremely high quality through and through, from choice of equipment to packing and instructions. I recommend looking at the ETS website at the slideshow of how such a kit is put together and what Doug Ritter himself recommends that you add to the kit (the pouch can hold a few more small items such as water purification tabs).
The Pocket Survival Pack is an amazing value. I've purchased all of the items separately, and just the shipping or driving to pick up 3 or 4 of the items probably covers half the cost! If you are lucky enough to get everything at one store, you'd be hard pressed to get the entire kit as cheap as this. I know people who have purchased this kit to take the parts for their own self-built survival kits! That's how economical it is. Plus, if you buy this PSP, a portion of the proceeds goes to the ETS non-profit group which gives free survival consulting to deployed troops and is actively involved in improving survival equipment and standards. In fact, Doug Ritter is the only consumer advocate working with the governing body on personal locator beacons used in marine, aviation, and remote travel.
The kit itself comes in a waterproof container. I found it to be a bit tight when closing back up, but there is actually some room for more items. All components are of the highest quality. It's lightweight and I never notice it in a pocket. With the recommended ETS or similar keychain LED flashlight and a good pocket folding knife, you have a complete survival kit that rivals ones costing $100+. These are cheap enough to get one for each car and any camping/hiking/marine/aviation gear you might have. I highly recommend this PSP. I'm not affiliated with ETS, but I've come to appreciate their no-nonsense advice and forums. And if this was a bad kit, I'd still say so. I give it 5 stars, great value for the price and it really could save your life.

2 comments about Motion Eaze All-Natural Motion Sickness Relief.
- I suffer from motion sickness when sailing in ocean swells. Looking for an alternative to traditional seasick pills, which always make me very drowsy (even the "non-drowsy" type), I decided to try Motion Eaze. My first time using it I got sick twice on a three hour sail, so it doesn't seem to work for me. I will give it one more try, however, since the last time out I allowed myself to get hungry, which can enhance the feeling of motion sickness.
- My husband rarely gets motion sickness and I always do - car, air, sea - all of it! Motion Eaze has allowed us to both enjoy over 10 years of traveling and bare boat sailing. I've tried it all - wrist bands, ginger, dramamine, bonine. Motion Eaze is by far the best! Wonderful to have a natural product that works! I wouldn't leave port without it!
