5 comments about TomTom ONE Portable GPS Vehicle Navigator.
- I just purchased the TomTom One portable GPS system. I have a very good internal sense of direction and I can read a map just fine but in New Jersey traffic, who can be bothered with that? I hate getting lost on busy roads and I often take long road trips to other states. This is a great device because it will talk you through your route, when to turn, it shows the names of the roads, etc. Another feature I love for road trips is when you get tired and need to stop you can push a button and the TomTom will show landmarks of all the local hotels and gas stations along your route (like if you only want a Marriott hotel it will tell you where the nearest Marriott is and how to get there). It will also show you local attractions and places of interest if you choose. If you are stuck in traffic and want to get off the road you're on you can hit "alternate route" and it will tell you where to go at your next turn off to get to your destination. I use it all the time, even at home. The funny thing is that we just built our home last year and because the development is so new it does not pick up on the GPS so when I turn down my road it just shows me driving into a dirt field! LOL. Other than that it is my most favorite new electronic device.
- A good unit for the money. If you want basic navigation with a few bells and whistles, this unit will do the job. I haven't made a wrong turn yet.
- If you want a good product stay away from Tom Tom products. I have used 3 different products from tom tom and maybe I'm a slow learner or tom tom has bad products, just stay away from tom tom so many better gps units to buy that are better. Not worth the money, bought a download and it turned out to be the wrong one and they will not fix the problem or give a refund. STAY AWAY FROM TOM TOM
- After one year of use. My tomtom one has a problem of charging. It is a problem of the device itself not the charger. I tried with new charger but not charing. I tried to solve the problem through customer support and experienced the worst custumer service. I will never buy tomtom again`.
- i bought this for my grandmother, who can't find her way to her next door neighbor's house. it works very well if you know the address; it's easy to use, it reroutes if you miss a turn, etc. my one (big) gripe with this unit is the terrible point of interest database. major stores (lowes, home depot, bealls dept store, etc) were not in the database--while i might expect some local restaurants, etc, to be missing, you'd think big boxes would at least be in there. it's possible to download some of them if you search for them individually on the tomtom database, but this is a real pain for me, never mind my 82 year old gm. it would be nice to d/l all of the poi's at once, but this doesn't seem possible. other than that it works very well though. i'm not sure if other brands have better databases. the object was for my grandmother to be able to plug in "walmart", and have it direct her there. while it wouldn't be a big deal for me to go to google maps and get an address, this is too big of an extra step for some people.

- Good case for my TomTom One 130. An adjustment for the suction cup (rotate to the corner of device) has to be made so it'll fit in the case but it's minor.

5 comments about TomTom ONE 130S 3.5-Inch Touchscreen Portable GPS Navigator Bundle Includes Case and Charger.
- This GPS is a very good navigator. It's the perfect size for me and fits in every place in my car. It's exactly what I was looking for, and it's very easy to download the actualizations from the computer.
- After weeks of researching GPS devices, I finally decided to buy a TomTom. The price is better, TomTom includes Canada at no extra cost, and it is fast and easy to set up. So far, this device has been very accurate and I live in a very rural area. I am very happy with my purchase!
- This is one of the best products and/or gadgets I've ever had the pleasure of using. From the day it arrived I turned it on (it was fully charged), and noticed how easy and intuitive it was to use and play around with. I thought maybe there was a problem with the contents when there were no user's manual that fell out when I opened the package. It didn't matter -- it was very easy to use. I knew that I could download the manual from the TomTom website.
I bought this GPS for planning our trip up to New York City. I did some searching and reading about a few different GPS's, and eventually ended up getting a low-priced but a newer model from TomTom. What finally helped me decide was:
1)portability (fits in shirt pocket).
2)support available on the Net.
3)simplicity of use.
First use:
Going to checkout the local parks near our home became so simple and nice, that otherwise would have been a difficult and time consuming task, with the unfolding and folding of maps, looking out for street names, or printing them out from Google Maps.
Extensive use:
Before the trip I entered all the restaurants and places we would like to visit as "Favorites". This is a trip from Virginia Beach to NYC (Manhattan). Never been there before, but with this gadget we weren't afraid to go just about anywhere we pleased. We followed the GPS to Delaware, caught the ferry to New Jersey, and reached our hotel with ease. This route was modified. The original route was given by TomTom to use the I-95 area, but we modified it to go our way which was very easy to do using the "Find alternative" icon.
Basically, we stayed in New Jersey going to Manhattan via the Staten Island Ferry (which is FREE), and back to our hotel in New Jersey. And we did this for a few days with the help of this GPS. We didn't bother driving in Manhattan, looking for parking, etc.
The hardest part about this whole trip was figuring out how to use the subway system. We even used our GPS to help us find out which way to go from time to time while on foot (thus the small size and portability). And it's great for a map reference. But I have to mention here that picking up the GPS signal while being surrounded by tall buildings out on the side walk is a little difficult. And I have to guess that it'll probably have the same effect while driving here.
Next, there seems to be some concern with the volume problem that I kept reading about. Ours was o.k. This GPS is very loud at its default of 70%! And clear! We had to turn down the volume while driving on the freeway -- it has a "Link volume to car speed" feature, which I think is ingenious, so it was louder on the freeway, then it gets down to its lower volume at lower speeds. The suction cup is nicely designed, and it's simple to take the whole assy. on and off to put away from vandalism.
There were fancier ones that mention the street names aloud, and ones that give you traffic information, and other things. But all I wanted was something simple and straight forward (turn left, turn right, stay on the left lane, etc. -- TomTom ONE 130 is perfect). Also I thought about getting the bigger 4.3" wide screen, but after using this it's not necessary.
Minor complaint:
One minor complaint is that when naming your "Favorites" it doesn't let you tap the cursor to any of its area, instead you have to erase the whole thing that has been highlighted or put the cursor at its very end. And when you want to give it a name and the address together, the number portion automatically gets inserted at the beginning which is annoying.
My solution: enter the name, and when entering the number portion, precede it with a special character like an asterisk then the number, then follow it by another asterisk, then the street name but without any space before it. Also I found it convenient to include the phone number on this whole line.
- I drive all over the place because I work in promotions, and getting this GPS was the best decision I've ever made. It has vastly increased my productivity when it comes to errands and easily directs me around Boston, a city in which I used to hate driving with a strong passion. The text to voice is a very important feature, especially at intersections with a few roads coming in and I highly encourage getting a GPS with this feature. I've noticed that sometimes it has trouble connecting to satellites, but plugging it in to charge usually corrects that problem immediately. The volume gets very loud and though it's difficult to adjust sometimes, that small problem doesn't reduce my wholehearted recommendation of the 130S!
- i am sure TOmTom will upgrade its website to have us all the updated maps as early as 2008..well it doesnt have the MP3 play back option in the unit .. i find many pros while 2 cons.. it doesnt support a SD card slot and its mem is 1gb..however it should have street spelling option instead of calling the turns..well its the price that makes it worth..

- This product did not charge my Magellan GPS. It works with TomTom, as I learned at Circuit City, but not with Magellan. I ended up buying another power cord from Circuit City (actually a Garmin cord because they did not have any Magellan cords). Was a hassle.

5 comments about HP iPAQ rx5915 Travel Companion.
- Typical Hp IPAQ quality combines the ease of a Tom-Tom GPS navigation system with full mobile office capabilities. Easy to set-up and use. I upgraded the Mobile Office for Office 2007 interface with ease. Comes with handy window mount and AC and auto charger adapter. Also charges through USB port on computer.
- After having and using this unit for 4 months, here are my thoughts:
The HP iPAQ rx5915 works OK as a GPS. It sometimes aquires a fix in seconds, other times it takes minutes. I find that if you enter the address that you want to go to before you are where it can obtain a signal, it seems like it will never get a fix. I usually shut down TomTom and restart once I am in the car. If I then enter the address it will get a fix fairly quickly.
But I mainly bought this to replace my aging Casio E-125 which had it's own Mobile Calendar and Contact software. This unit, though over 7 years old, typically responds to alarms and input more quickly than the brand new HP iPAQ. The HP has more memory, a MUCH faster processor, etc. But I guess that the software is more bloated or something because when the alarm goes off, it stutters like it's struggling to get the sound out and launch the reminder pop-up. VERY annoying! I didn't like the basic calendar and contact software that came with the unit, to I purchased and installed Pocket Informant 8 which is highly configurable but is still sluggish in responding to commands and alarms. It's a real shame that something so much newer and more sophisticated does the basics so much worse. Also, I usually have to push the on-off button 2 or 3 times to get it to respond. Not sure if this is hardware or software related. But also very annoying.
The wireless portion works OK, but trying to browse the web on a screen that size is an exercise in frustration. It has come in handy a few times, but other than that, I find it to be little more than a gimmick. I guess that if I used it for email it would be OK, but again, I don't usually have to, so I don't.
I would say that the only things to recommend this unit are the brightness of the screen (my old PDA was impossible to see outdoors) and the fact that it is slimmer and lighter than the Casio. Other than that, not much to recommend it and I wouldn't buy it again.
- I have owned this unit for 1 month and have to say I am very pleased with it. I have read alot of reviews and the ones that I have read that were bad are no surprise to me. The people who complained are not technically savy. Their are 1,000's of free applications out there to make this device almost the ultimate tool.
This unit runs Windows Mobile 5. Granted it doesn't have all the nice features of Windows Mobile 6, but you can download just about any application for it and most of them are free! Ex: I have installed MS Live search mobile, very cool app. that gives me the directions, movie times, traffic reports, etc. all via the internet. Another nice app. is Yahoo2go... I get syncronized email and contacts, weather reports, news headlines etc. And finally for video I have a blast with Youtubeplay!
The only reason I give it 4 stars is that it does not have a phone. But I purchased this mainly for the GPS and the Windows Mobile features. The GPS does take alittle while to acquire the signal initially. But you can purchase an optional antenna to speed up the acquisition time (approx. $19)
If you are going to purchase a GPS, my thought is you should get more for your money, and this unit is a perfect match.
- Powerful, convenient, value for money PDA/GPS package. Slightly big and heavy for use as a PDA to carry around everyday, though large enough to display sufficient features for a GPS to be functional. It seems to take a while for the GPS signal to lock in and hold a signal and occasionally the signal is lost while driving despite clear skies and the GPS having a clear view of the sky. The interface is fine, though I think Belkin's GPS software is slightly better overall. I do not like the fact that it does not tell you whether your destination is on the left or right hand side of the road. I also wish the input keyboard was in qwerty format and had an auto-complete feature to save time when inputting addresses. I also wish that it would at least pronounce names of freeways when giving directions. Overall though, it has no competition because of its excellent PDA and above average GPS functionality in an affordable price.
- I have owned this product for almost two years now. It was a very wise investment. If you want a pda/gps/mp3 player all in one, this is the product for you. The only compliant I have is the need to do a soft restart in the midst of do something (notorious for Windows Mobile). Although I have never had the GPS software cause the PDA to freeze. The installed TomTom software is great, but I have had it tell me to make a U-turn on the interstate. Just use common sense while using. Don't mindlessly do whatever the GPS tells you. Merely use the GPS as an aid. I have not had any problems, so I can not tell you if the technical support is good or not. All around great product.

- I LOVE MY PAD VERY MUCH A GOOD REASON I LIVE IN CALIFORNIA CANNO'T USE A SUCTION CUP ON WINDSHIELD.
ALSO WORKS GOOD ON THE CONSOLE
- This GPS pad works great. I use it for a Magellan 4000 GPS and it holds it securely on the dash of my Honda van and also on a Nissan truck. It does not slide around or move even when breaking hard or stopping suddenly. It is easy to set off the dash into the floor when I need to get out and leave the vehicle. I highly recommend this mounting pad if you don't want to have a GPS mounted to your windshield.
- It's hard to believe that your GPS doesn't go flying off the dashboard when using this weighted beanbag mount, but it absolutely doesn't. And it's much easier to use than a suction-cup mount, particularly if you live in an area where you need to remove or hide your GPS.
- Great. The square shape fits perfectly in the square inlay of my Jeep Grand Cherokee. It has a firm friction grip and doesn't tip over from the wight of my TomTom One XL (which is a large gps). The only thing with the product is that the suction cup from my TomTom usually has a firm suction to the windshield but did not stick well to this bean bag mount. I used the plastic adhesive disk that came with my TomTom and stuck it to this mount and now the suction cup holds perfectly.

1 comments about TomTom Go 720 Auto Navigation System (Refurbished).
- I own some Nuvi 760/770 before I rate this Tomtom. Physically its shape is not so sleek, i.e. thicker and less stylish than the nuvis screen. The on-screen directions while driving require some getting-used-to, though they are Not bad at all. The cable hookup and ports are not the most desirable. searching for addresses require some backing up of screens, which is less straightforward as the nuvis (even the Garmin C340 is more direct). But it is evident than the nuvis cost more... more than you would be willing to trade for. Overall, this is a very decent product if you never have the pleasure of the elegant operation of a Nuvi. Satellite signal capture (like speed) is comparable in both Tomtom and Nuvi. this Tomtom is given 4 stars (but marginally so)

4 comments about TomTom Car Charger for GO Navigators (9A00.001).
- It does what it is suppose to do. What more can I say about a low tech device?
- This item was advertiesed as working with a TomTom One. I selected it from the TomTom One "accessories". It DOES NOT work with TomTom One. Wrong plug style. Probably works fine for the appropriate device.
- This product is advertised as if it will fit every GO Navigator out there. I had to return mine because it was not compatible with my 700 GO. However, I must compliment Amazon on how they handled my return. They sent me an email with a return postage pick up and instructions on how to return it at their expense. I received a full credit to my credit card account. From now on, I will have no hesitation to order from Amazon because of their customer sensitivity and service.
- THE CHARGER IS GREAT BUT WE HAVEN'T BEEN HAPPY WITH THE TOM TOM RIDER 2 SICE WE GOT IT. WE GOT IT IN THE WINTER AND DIDN'T USE IT MUCH UNTIL THE WEATHER WARMED SO WE THOUGHT IT WAS JUST A LEARNING TO USE PROBLEM. AFTER ALL SUMMER IT STILL SUCKS!

5 comments about Mio c230 3.5-Inch Portable GPS Navigator.
- I have only had my Mio for a few days but I am quickly learning how to use it. It is my first GPS experience and I love it. The only negative I can see is that updates are not available and some new addresses are not coming up.
- I don't what some of these 5, 4 or even 3 star review people are using or where they are using them, but this thing is terrible!
It constantly shuts down and restarts in the middle of a trip, usually at the most complex point of the directions.
The directions it provides make no logical sense whatever. The Fastest setting is a joke. Google directions routinely save me 10 minutes per hour.
It has directed me to turn the wrong way on one-way streets, driven me into dead ends and wants me to turn where there is no street.
The time feature doesn't work. It is four hours ahead of my time zone in the Synch mode. If I manually set the time, the map color scheme still turns from day to night and back by the GPS time- not what I have configured.
The spoken directions are annoying, repeating a turn constantly.
Once I arrive at my destination, the unit does not know it. It even says "You have arrived at your destination." But then when I get back in the car and drive away, it recalculates my new position and keeps directing me back to the destination. I have to go in and manually delete the route.
When driving in complex areas (an interchange with many options for example) it has no idea where you are and if you miss the option you should have selected you may as well pull over to the side of the road to wait for it to recalculate. Otherwise by the time it does give you new directions, you will have missed the next option and it has to recalculate AGAIN.
It commonly has me turn off a main road and then directs me back on to the same road a block or two further on.
Don't buy this!
- I got this before a trip to Las Vegas. I had four address's to find, it located 1 out of 4. I think navigating by the stars would be more accurate. This thing can't even find my home address, it directs me six blocks away in town. I had a Niko GPS but broke the screen it was about the same price and 5 times the GPS. I got the Mio because of text to speech and that is good, but only for correct directions and that doesn't happen very often. Take a look at the Niko, you'll be smarter than me.
- I purchased the Mio C230 to replace an old Magellan system that I had. The reason that I replaced the Magellan was because Magellan had stopped supporting my model with new map updates. I chose the Mio C230 because it was the least expensive model that would speak street names (rather than simply, "take the next right," for example). What a disappointment this has been!
First, there is a software glitch in the C230 that doesn't allow you to enter an exact address for a destination. The "fix" according to Mio customer service is to add an address that is "close by" and the C230 will bump up or down the address so that, if you play with it enough, you can eventually get the system to find your desired destination. For example, if I'm looking for 224 Main Street and I enter that address, directions to 222 Main Street will come up. So if I really want 224 Main Street, I have to try 226 or 225 or 223 Main Street, and if I'm lucky, I'll get the right destination.
Second, the map for my C230 was out of date right out of the box. I wrote Mio and was told that it was the most current map that they had, and there were no plans to update it. This device has been around for a couple of years now, and still no map updates!
Third, if you go to the Mio web site and try to find downloads for the C230, this model is not to be found in most of the Mio pulldown menus. According to most of their support pages, the C230 doesn't even exist!
Fourth, the image and information about your vehicle on the display is off from real time by about a second or so. So if it tells you to turn right in 500 feet, you probably should have turned right because you've already missed your turn.
Fifth, I mapped out a return route from Raleigh to Winston-Salem recently. I requested the shortest route. What the C230 gave me would have taken me over ONE HOUR out of my way! What I eventually did was to pull out the free paper map from AAA and find my own route.
Finally, I was in Radio Shak today and noticed that they were selling map and driver updates for the C230 for over $70!!! Had I known that the only way to get current maps and fixes for the many glitches in this thing was to shell out another $70 bucks, I would never have bought it in the first place.
What a waste of time and money this thing has been!!! It's too late for me, but not for you! DO NOT PURCHASE A MIO PRODUCT!!!
- 1. Screen goes black 3 to 4 times a day and then it displays "FATAL ERROR" it then takes about 25 seconds for it to reboot and recalculate.
2. Its accuracy is 950 feet. When I miss a turn I travel 950 feet before the GPS realizes I have missed the turn. All Garmin models are accurate to 35 feet.
3. The turn-by-turn voice stutters. She cant spit out a street name.
4. The time zones don't make any sense at all. Apparently my time zone is in Bolivia... (when I live in D.C.) but every night at nine o'clock Bolivia's time zone goes forward three hours. So then I have to set the time zone to Eastern Europe.
5. The compass is completely wrong, when I am traveling east, it says I'm going west. Whenever I'm traveling west, it says im going south, and whenever I'm traveling north it says I'm traveling west.
6. When I turn it off and leave it off for more than a week the battery runs out and I have to let it charge. And while its charging it constantly tells me that my battery is low.
7. I liked the POI feature a lot on this gadget. That is the main reason why I bought it. But in the millions of points of interest it says it has It cannot search for the following; Wal-Mart, K-mart, Gold's Gym, YMCA, Giant, Food Lion, Bloom, Chipotle, Ace Hardware, Quantico Marine Base, Rayburn building, Cannon Building, Longworth building, Verizon center, Verizon stores, VER, KFC, and target.
8. Finally the stupid thing takes over three minutes to pick up satellites. Even when I am out in the middle of an open field.
