  1. This is a great product, the mount the Tom Tom came with I did not like, as I drive a large SUV and can not mount anything to my front window and it was difficult to see. With this mount I can adjust it for the lighting, with the navi mat it is perfect for my dash and it is great. Highly recommended.

  2. The original mounting kit for the TomTom 720 is too short. This one, on the otherhand, is a little too long. This is seen in a vibration that sets up once the car is underway. Too bad there isn't one that is about half the length of this one. That said, I still like it much, much better than what TomTom supplied. This one has a much superior window clamp than the one supplied by TomTom. Once clamped, it is there. Not so with the TomTom kit.

  3. this mount is great. put your tom tom in comforable reach. a nice addition to make mounting the tom tom beter.

  4. I lost my Windshield Mount and bought this one.
I thought flexibility will be nice but it vibrates too much!
    It's annoying.
I agree that suction is much better than the one that came but I just can't use a gps that makes me have to focus on it more time that I should because it is vibrating.

  5. Definately an upgrade from the standard, short mount.
Great suction power (make sure to activate the lever on the base).
A bit of vibration but that also depends on the car's ride.
Finally, I can see the screen in good detail!

  1. I purchased this because the plug on original dock that came with my TOMTOM broke very quickly and easily. This one was designed better and included several removable prongs to accomodate travelers to different countries. This one is MUCH better~

5 comments about TomTom ONE Portable GPS Automobile Navigator (Refurbished).
  1. I ordered a NEW TomTom One GPS from Amazon on October 2, 2007. I was sent a refurbished unit. I emailed Amazon 4 times starting October 3 to resolve the issue and had one "I am sorry" reply. I called and was told nothing can be done on the phone. I wrote a letter to Amazon on October 8, 2007 with copies of their ad advertising a new unit. It is now November 4, 2007 and I have had no reply of any type. The unit was charged to my card within within 8 hours of the order.

I have a unit I can not review because I can not open the box without losing my ability to be able to return the GPS. I have no GPS that I can use and my money is gone.

Amazon has made no attempt to reply to me in a month. No real service available. Careful what you buy - they do not reply.

NO REAL REVIEW OF THE UNIT AFTER A MONTH AS I CAN NOT USE THE UNIT UNTIL THIS DISPUTE IS RESOLVED.

    EWB

  2. TomTom One is an absolute delight to use in the Northwest area. Its fast, accurate, very easy to setup, and intuitive to use. But, I had to return the first two units to get one that worked. Despite the issues noted below, I would buy a TomTom again. They are really very good at what they do when they work.

The first one locked up. After two hours of online trouble shooting, TomTom sent a replacement. This one worked but had to be reset after each use or it would not start. More online troubleshooting, and finally a replacement that worked.

My online search indicates that about 15% of users experience the lockups and reset problem, even on new units. One gets the impression that failed units are being recycled with little or poor refurbishing. (Perhaps their repair work is outsourced?)

Very well trained & friendly online support, but other than reloading faulty software, there is little they can do but authorize a replacement.

If all you want or need is a simple to use get from here to there navigation without add-on frills and entertainment, you will love the TomTom One. It makes for a fun trip.

However, be prepared for frustration with refurbished units. It would be smarter and much less frustrating and very worthwhile to search for a new unit at discount.

  3. This GPS unit works fairly well if plugged into power, but it has unacceptable battery life. I charged the battery overnight twice but it still only holds a charge for about 10 minutes. The GPS functions are good, not great. If you don't arrive at your programmed destination, you are constantly alerted to keep moving unless you program a new destination. To end a destination early, you have to go several screens into the interface - very inconvenient. I ended turning off the voice directions most of the time. I bought a refurbished unit, and I have read several negative reviews of model One refurbs since, so I suspect Tomtom dumps their inferior refurbished products back on the market. Very disappointing. I will avoid refurbs and Tomtoms from now on.

  4. I bought mine retail before X-Mas, so this is not a refurb review, but as far as the unit goes, it's great!

I have been using it regularly in Texas since purchase and it has always given 100% accurate directions. Easy to use, love the voice navigation and the screen is easy to see in any light (including bright sunlight).

We took it on the first big family trip last week and it performed like a champ. Took me straigt to every door we asked it to. We had paper directions as a backup but never had to pull them out.

I have never used the traffic on it, but for navigation it's a winner in my book!

  5. This is one of the most featured-packed portable GPS system one can get for under $200.00. I did a lot of research and decided to buy a used or refurbished One rather than get the 3rd edition which lacks a lot of features like advanced trip planning and multiple via points. I have only been using my refurbished TOM TOM One for a week but so far so good. I highly recommend it for someone who wants a simple GPS with some advanced features that may come in handy for long road trips. It is definitely a better bargain than the Garmin Nuvi 200 or Maegellal Maestro. If you can't find a used/refurbished TomTom One or One (LE), go for the Tom Tom One XL. It is the same exact device but with a wide screen. My one complaint is that the suction cup mount arm is too short. When mounted, it is quite a stretch for me to interact with the device. I think I will have to buy a ProClip mount for it and my Jetta.

  1. Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R18FI2ZHR8FB56 You will see how this system works in day time and night vision mode in this demo video. Wonderful concept, great product.
This product has been selected by G4TV as "latest must-have tech gadgets" feature product. See link below.

  2. Great concept if you don't want to add a 2nd screen on your dashboard for your backup video. Great value considering most backup cameras and video sell for around $150. Your get a nice GPS for another $100. Text-to-speech feature works great, and the GPS also dims automatically at night. You usually find these features in higher end systems. I had trouble getting the video. There are 2 channels (for an additional camera). I've sent an email explaining my problem and within the hour I received a response with instructions in how to fix the problem. That's great customer service!!! All I had to do was change the channel. Sounds easy, but that part of the set up menu, was in Chinese. That's why I never figured it out on my own. One thing I would like to improve on, is on the "status bar" at the bottom. The characters are a bit small, that includes the directions, next turn, speed and time remaining. Most GPS use a dark bar with big characters that are easy to read. Maybe in the future with a software upgrade this may change. I would definitely buy this product again. Besides, most of the popular GPS don't offer the backup camera, so there aren't many choices out there. One more thing, the camera works great in the dark.

  3. I waited to write this review to make sure this product was as good as it seemed. We bought a 2006 Tacoma that had no navigation or backup camera like our Pilot does that is built in. I researched alot of GPS's as I did not want separate monitors on dash. I also needed to change the setting to get the backup camera on the screen after we added dual headset DVD's and hardwired XMradio it no longer would show image on screen..I e-mailed Joe and had an answer within hours. The navigation has been as good as the one in our Honda..it has been really reliable..the hardest thing is hearing the speech as it is not like a built in that cuts off the stereo sound but you can still see the screen just fine. I can even tell how fast my husband is really going when not using the mapping feature :)4UCam 4.3-Inch Widescreen Portable GPS Navigator Touch Screen with Wireless BACKUP CAMERA Day & Night MP3, Image Viewer, Video Player

  4. I've only been using this a few days, but so far, disappointed. The installation was pretty straightforward, but not perfect. In CA the camera blocks part of the registration stickers on upper lic. plate. On some trucks you may not be able to use the lower lic. plate mount. The camera signal seems verrrry sensitive. Sometimes the screen flickers so much it is almost useless. This is my first GPS, so I don't know how they compare. They use DESTINATOR7 software. Seems like there are still bugs in it. Not all screen controls work and not all directions are accurate. I'm still fine tuning, but so far DOESN'T seem WORTH THE $300 (?)

  5. PROS:
    1) You will not find more responsive customer support - ANYWHERE. I got very fast responses and where help was to be had, they provided it - first class.

    2) Good value - a backup camera and GPS together for less than $300! I figure the GPS cost an extra $100, and it is worth that.

    3) The suction mount is STRONG. I have my mounted up near the mirror. You don't really see the device from head-on.

    CONS:
    1) Installation TOTALLY frustrating. I used the electrical connectors supplied. These did not provide an adequate connection and the camera was useless. The screen would flicker so much and go back and forth from the camera to GPS that it was useless. I thought there was something wrong with the unit. I went back to the wiring... The connectors had actually cut through the trucking wiring. The metal part of the connector is much, much, much too small. I soldered the connections and things improved a LOT. DO NOT use the included connectors. They should not be included with the unit. You get the idea that they will work. Trust me, they don't.

    2) Interference - If you are around other devices (I think 2.4 GHZ) you will get interference. If I am out in the middle of nowhere, it works well. A disadvantage of a wireless unit. A hard-wired unit would probably eliminate this.

    3) Unless you want the unit on all the time, you must turn it off when you get out of your vehicle, then back on again when you get back in. Garmin has a nice feature that senses when external power is stopped, and the unit turns off automatically. Then when you turn on the vehicle, it senses this and turns back on.

    4) If you use the screen-dimming feature, it does not come back on when you put the vehicle in reverse. The camera works, but the screen is dimmed so it is useless. So, if you want it to work whenever you want it to work, you cannot use the dimming feature, and you can't turn it off between trips. (A lighted GPS on the dash is just inviting people to break in at night.)

    5) The GPS can take several minutes to start working. The manual says 3 minutes. The Garmin I use works almost immediately.

    6) The GPS is not accurate. It will tell me I have reached my destination about 300 feet before I have. If I make a wrong turn, it takes 300-400 feet to realize it before it recalculates. It will actually show that I am traveling down the route it suggests after I have turned on to another street! (I tried recalibrating the GPS - this did not help.)

    7) You will need a 4-wheel drive amphibious vehicle! I got directions to a rural address. Fortunately I have 4-wheel drive. It directed me to drive section lines (the space between sections - usually a dirt path between two fields - sometimes not even that.) A few times I came up to sloughs (sort of like a lake but dirty and slimy) and it wanted me to drive through. I decided not to. It did recalculate as I kept driving. I finally got there, but I think I surprised a few hunters along the way.

I had hoped for better GPS - and the installation could have been easy if the manufacturer had supplied accurate instructions, or better connectors. (The problem is that the camera wires are very small gauge - maybe 25% the size of the truck wiring.

I WOULD BUY IT AGAIN. What I was really looking for was the backup camera, and the GPS for $100 was a nice addition. It will get me close enough if I don't expect it to take me right to where I need to go. The Garmin takes me right there - even tells me which side of the street!

  1. Excellent mount, even more duable than I could possibly require. I use it on my bicycle. Can be used to add a host of other product mounts made by RAM. I added black electrical tape around u bolt to avoid any scratching. I highly recommend this product and will look to RAM first for future mount needs.

  2. The mount works great on my harley ultra. GPS is held tightlyand is easy to see. Great product!

  3. As expected with a Ram product, this mount is well designed and secure. We've owned other Ram mounts for other GPSs and have never been disappointed in their quality.

  1. RAM mount was a shock to me. The ease of putting it up and the flexibility after installing it is amazing. furthermore, you can use the same parts with other acc. such as my motorbike and my car!

RAM recomended for serious mounts... otherwise, just get an ordinary one.

  2. This RAM mount has great quality overall but unfortunately no provision was made to allow power to be connected to the GPS while it is in the cradle!
