5 comments about Mio C520 4.3-Inch Widescreen Bluetooth Portable GPS Navigator.
- This GPS unit came ready right out of the box. The first time it was turned on, the colors on the screen were vibrant. The gps oriented itself in just a few seconds. All the nearby streets were identified. This was my first personal gps unit, so ease of use was important and the Mio C520 unit did not let me down. I ordered this unit and received it within five working days, this was important to me since I was traveling from Longview, Tx. to Detriot Mi. a week after ordering. Thanks Amazon. The day after receiving the Mio C520 I typed in the Detriot address and began my trip. It took me right to the address in Detriot. What a stress reliever as I darted through traffic like a local not having to worry about if i'm in the right lane for the next turn. This unit comes with all the bells and whistles, Touch screen, text and speech, Mp3 player, picture viewer blue tooth and a million POI. The point of interest feature was great for finding hotels and restaurants on the trip up to Detrioit. It found a couple of museums and shoping malls in Detriot.
- I bought the C520 in Jan 2008 and found it to be pretty easy to use, although the interface can be maddening at times.
The biggest complaints I have are (1) Re-boots frequently and (2) Maps hopelessly out of date. The re-boots occur when the volume on the text-to-speech is muted - after a while I get really annoyed at the 'GPS babe" announcing that I'll need to turn in 700', 400', 200' etc (it's like having my wife giving me directions!) Oh, then she announces for me to turn left at the next turn - after I've already passed the turn (again, my wife...) The unit will run for a few minutes and then re-boot, not a good thing when you're traveling in traffic and need to know where the next turn will be!
The maps are very out-of-date; however, I was willing to pay the $80 to update the software. Unfortunately, after going through the web form on their online store, I was informed that "this merchant does not accept this credit card." I had selected American Express from the drop-down box, but they don't accept Amex??? When I wrote them asking what the problem was, they ignored me for two weeks, and when I wrote again, they indignantly responded that "the problem has been corrected." Well, it hasn't - I wrote to tell them that about a month ago and have never heard back. I don't know what country these guys are in, but when I can afford it, I'm buying something "Made in the U.S.A." - this is a waste of my time.
- Great product. excellent usability.
Works great as blue tooth connector for talking in cellular while driving
- I read a lot of product reviews on this and several other brands. If you take them all seriously, most likely you would never buy a GPS. The C520 works just fine and probably equal to all others in its price range. The most difficult thing is in deciding which options you need or want. I choose this model as an upgrade from the C230. I wanted the wide screen. I like the Mio brand because of the unlock and options you can add if you have some computer experience. It now has more games and gizmos than I will ever use. It has always locked onto satellites in less than a minute and never yet lost a signal while traveling. It seems to be accurate within 20 ft. The voice is very robotic and some street names are mispronounced. If you like gadgets then this is a fine choice. For grandma or grandpa that don't use a computer or a cell phone maybe a TomTom would be a better choice. I commute 150 miles a day and my Mio C520 sure helps.
- After using the Mio C520 for over 3 months now I truly regret I bought it. the device performs poorly in route calculation choosing the most bizarre routes you would ever imagine.
Fortunately also owned a Garmin 200W and the TomTom One. both outperform the Mio in suggesting much faster and more logical routes. THIS IS THE MOST BASIC FUNCTION OF A GPS DEVICE!
The bluetooth speakerphone is useless as there's so much background noise. besides, you have to pair the phone each time you turn the Mio on.
Overall nice feature/function but poor design, stay away!

- We own a Garmin Nuvi 350, Garmin Nuvi 750 and a Magellan Maestro 3200 GPS receivers. We have been looking for an AC Adapter to charger our units. We were surprised to find this Gilsson AC Adapter capable of charging all three GPS units. I love this AC Adapter, because it uses a nice and compact right angle miniUSB connector, smaller than those available from Garmin and Magellan. This Gilsson AC Adapter appears to be very high quality with UL certified parts, unlike other generic AC Adapters. I have referred several friends and colleagues to Gilsson for this AC Adapter and they are all very happy with their purchase. I first learned of this Gilsson AC Adapter, because Magellan Technical Support recommended that I call Gilsson to order this compatible AC Adapter, as it has been tested to work with Garmin, Magellan and TomTom GPS Receivers ! It is very rare for a name brand GPS maker (Magellan) to recommend another brand name (Gilsson), but apparently Magellan has enough confidence in endorsing Gilsson products for their GPS users. Why pay more for OEM parts, when you can buy a high quality replacement at a lower price ? Happy Navigating !
- I wouldn't order this, at least not from Amazon. The third party vendor sent it in a padded envelope but otherwise unwrapped, with no manufacturer packaging or any other indication that it is a new item. I'm not going to plug my device into it, under the circumstances. Still waiting to hear from the seller about getting my money back.
Edit update on grievance to seller: the seller did exchange emails with me and defended themselves, saying this was a new item they had unwrapped for ease of shipping. They offered to accept a return, though refunding only my purchase price, not shipping. The cost of shipping it back will just about cancel that out, so I am probably not going to bother to return it.
My warning still stands: there's just no way to tell, other than the seller's word, that this is indeed a new item intended for the use described. Without the packaging, the seller's claim cannot be verified.
- works great. nice to have the option to charge and use the unit in the house or hotel room
- Once again, Amazon.com will be my very first on line company I trust.
The item is working like a Swiss clock.
Good job

- I was considering purchasing this product, but the features described here at amazon.com do not match what magellan shows on their product manual and product features description. I don't know who's right, but the manual and megallan site does not mention bluetooth or voice command.
- Just to clarify: I own this unit and while it's exactly what I was looking for (needing neither Bluetooth nor Voice Command) I can clarify the inaccurate information stated above - the 5310 has neither of these features. The Magellan Maestro 4050 4.3-Inch Widescreen Portable GPS Navigator has both features available for those who are interested. It is possible that we'll see Voice Command came out as an upgrade for the 5310 as it did for the 4050, but it's not there now. That said, this is a great little unit with a large, easy-to-read screen, great AAA extras, good maps and a very intuitive user interface. I'd highly recommend it and at $350 Amazon has one of the best prices I've seen (it's $500 elsewhere).
- My first gps was a 5310, Not doing my home work I found myself looking at the gps units at Best Buy, not a very big selection when you look at all the ones available online. I wasnt intrested at the time in bluetooth, voice command, mp3, msn ect. just wanted a good gps and decent size screen, and I selected the 5310 for $499. Really should have more features for that price.
Thats what this unit was 5" LCD screen with great POI, traffic and easy to use. Used it right out of the box for seveal stops on the way home and played around with it that day. Really nice unit. Plugged it in that night to charge and the next morning it kept turning off, didnt take a charge, touch screen stoped working, I turned it off and on with no results. I looked thru the manual, which wasnt very good and should have told me at least it has a reset button. It didnt. So I took it back to the store and got a refund.
Thats when I started reading reviews online, realized maybe the reset button MAY have fixed the problem and I would still have it today and loved it. I also found all the other gps units available the store didnt have so I researched for a couple of days and for the price options ect I really liked the 4250, its the same unit as the 5310 plus bluetooth and voice command for about half the price, It does have the 4.3 WQVGA screen instead of the 5" LCD, but its just as good and easier to carry.
See my review of the 4250 but to sum it up I really love it works great. Hasnt frozen or needed to be reset. Found I use the bluetooth and voice command on occasion and like I said half the price for the same unit.
I Did stay away from Tom Tom on recommendations from the store to friends to family and many reviews, bad maps routing you down dead end streets ect. Never really heard anything bad about Garmin just more money with less features. Magellan and Garmin use the same maps, Tom Tom's are different.
I have downloaded the new firmware 4.6 for my 4250 and would recommend that. It does help the bluetooth and overall operation runs smoother.
- I got my Magellan Maestro 5310 today and tested it thoroughly. This is my first GPS Navigator and I liked it a lot. It works with no problems.
Pros: It talks a lot: the actions you take, the street names, warning for approaching turns, etc. and bells/chimes at the turning points... Route recalculation takes about 3 seconds. Big screen is awesome. Satellite connection is perfect in Texas. The accuracy is about 4-5 meters. And it is full of POI.
Cons: So far the only con can be the difficulty to connect the cradle with the swivel mount. It's not easy to push the cradle all the way down until it locks in place with the swivel mount. Don't force it, it will break, or don't mount the Magellan Maestro 5310 before having those two pieces lock perfectly. What I did was to put some soap on the tabs and the holes and then the cradle slides and locks without forcing it.

- This product is phenomenal. I bought the Magellan Maestro for my 74 year old father for Father's Day. He is, to say the least, non-computer savvy. However, he was able to use the GPS with ease. The instructions are easy to read, and the on-line help was fast and reliable. He is currently off roading in Nevada using his new navigation system and having a great time.
- I have used my Magellan with great success.
Not being the one for great written directions
it has helped me a great deal.
My only complaint are the instructions with the package
need to be more informative re the need to download
or to upgrade.
- We prefer the TomTom because it has an easier to use (and more thorough) 'points of interest' and 'maps' program. This Magellan Maestro became a headache when we had to utilize without any addresses ...especially when many streets were not listed on the map function. As a sidenote, never leave your GPS in the car...don't even leave it in the glove compartment!
- Magellan is a very accurate and helpful item. I use it very often, out of state, and never get lost when looking for difficult destinations. It gives pleanty of time when notifying of upcoming maneuvers. It was a wise purchase.
- I have had this GPS for a month and just took it on a long trip. Save your money because you get what you paid for. This is an inexpensive unit and leaves a lot to be desired.
I named it Barbara after my mother in law (she is always giving directions) First, the maps are not up to date and do not have many current roads, at least where I live. On this long highway trip Barbara was mostly quiet except when you come to a major crossroad, then she tells you to stay on the current road at least three times, and sometimes more.
In my case I had driven most of this route many times and know the best way around some major cities. Barbara always wanted to direct me through the town and not give me the best route. In one case she had me going north when I needed to go west. Looking at my atlas I could plainly see that there was no way to get where I needed to be if I followed her directions. This happened many times on roads that have been around for decades. I felt that I could not trust the unit!
If you are in a strange area in the dark and there are not any alternate routes, Barbara would get me there every time. And I can say that that was a big help. But this was at the end of the route is a very rural area.
Next the display, if you can afford a larger display, buy it. This one is small and even with my small fingers I had trouble with some on the buttons. This is a heads up display with two nav bars at the top and bottom on the screen. They display the current road you are on and the one where your next turn is. My logic says the top bar should be the turn you are going to (heads up). But no, that is the road you are on and where you are going is on the bottom. Yea it's a minor thing but annoying.
OK, now try to find a point of interest while you are on a route. Food, Rest Area, etc. Your only option is to exit a point of interest. Now why would I want to exit if I was looking for one? I pushed the button and got a screen that would give me small icons with a distance from my current location. This was not any help at all, especially if I wanted to know where the next rest area was. To find that you must canx. your route and then pick the point of interest button. Barbara will then give you a list of categories to choose from. Alphabetical order, NO WAY!! Try pushing the little down button to find what you want, while driving. This makes you an accident waiting to happen. This unit should be classified in the same hazard category as cell phones!
I could go on and on but I think you get my drift. When you buy a cheap product, you get what you paid for!
Jim

- This is my Tomtom review:
I brought this as an upgrade to my Magellan 2200t, and even through it had more features than my 2200t the directions were terrible. I know that any GPS device is not 100 percent on the money and in a lot of cases it is off a little. The Tomtom was often trying to make me take turns onto roads that I didn't have to take to get to my destination. One time I followed the directions to see where it would take me. I made a right and then just a little while later it told me to make a left. That left would have put me in a ditch and into the woods. And the deal breaker was the way I had to access the Point of Interests (POI). I now have a Magellan 4210 and while driving if I see a POI on the screen all that I have to do is tap the screen to view a list of all the POI in the area. Now with the Tomtom I would have to work my way to the menu screen to see something or find something of interest. Also in bright sun light forget about looking at the screen. And my Magellan screen changes from a daytime screen to a nighttime screen. But I will give them credit for a few things, free map updates, and you can customize the voices. I'm very happy with my Magellan 4210 and even happier Amazon allowed me to return the item.
Short but sweet Magellan 4210 review:
Brought a Tomtom to replace an old Magellan 2200t big mistake because the Tomtom sucked in my opinion. This 4210 works great and is as accurate as any other, I'm grateful that I was able to return that piece of crap Tomtom. I would highly recommend this GPS to anyone looking for a great toy for the car. Get a Magellan it will not disappoint.
- I can't begin to say how disappointed I am with my Magellan purchase. But let me try. After 10 months the plug for the car charger broke. After 45 minutes on the phone with customer service I am now being asked to ship this in to the repair center in Texas. 10 Months and the unit breaks and now I will have to wait 2 weeks for the unit to be returned. I must say that a GPS is a great tool for a driver. But, if you are looking to buy a unit then you should consider looking at TOM TOM or Garmin or any other company that may build a better unit.
- I've been using various types of GPS units over the last nine years and the Magellan 4210 is my latest model. I first purchased the 3250 but only used it for about a week before switching to the 4210. The major differences between the two are the voice recognition commands, the bluetooth connectivity, and live traffic compatibility. The voice recognition on the 3250 did not work very well as it was very finicky in recognizing any commands. The car had to be as quiet as possible, no radio. The bluetooth feature worked well enough but callers on the other end said calls sounded strange. Traffic is not an issue in my locale so this feature wasn't going to be used. Once I saw the 4210 was on sale locally for less, I made the switch and I'm very satisfied with the 4210. All the features function very well and I don't miss anything from the 3250. The larger screen is a must-have.
I also spent some time with a TomTom XL One recently and prefer the 4210. I like the flow of the menus better and find the Magellan easier to use. I especially like the ability to find a restaurant by type of cuisine, something you can't do with all other GPS units.
Another plus for the 4210 is its size. Very compact and easy to carry around if you don't want to leave it in the car.
I didn't use to be a fan of Magellan products but this unit has swayed me. I've even bought the same model for a gift to a family member.
- Phew, I'm so glad I didn't listen to the negative customer reviews for the 4210. If you read the item description correctly, you'll see that this system does not have the text to speech capability (the 4250 and other higher end models do), but I'm not willing to pay an extra $70+ to hear the name of the street read aloud. This system has what I wanted: widescreen, thin (0.7"), a lot of Points of Interest (6 million should do), and helpful screen guides (I really like the ETA function). I'm glad I waited for the prices of GPS systems to go down a bit, and I'm very happy with what I got for my money.
- this product was use on our trip to Florida and worked great. i would recommed this to all travelers.

- I recceived the Magellan Maestro 3200 for Father's Day and it was the best gift. This unit is easy to use and simple. I would highly recommend it. My wife did a lot of research on GPS systems and this one suited our needs.
- My old car ('04 Honda) had DVD-based routing system. New corporate vehicle does not. While this thing is certainly better than having to print out directions every time I travel, it is still quirky. Many times, when turned on, it shows me in my driveway...even if I'm 200 miles away from home. After a few minutes, it seems to reorient itself. Has gone into a "recalculating route" loop a couple times, too. Like I said, better than nothing.
- I used a Nuvi 260 for a few days before it got some bug in it so when returning it I decied to try the Magellan 3200.
Compared to the Garmin I had just returned, I hated this GPS. It has a tinny speaker which sounds cheap and is so high treble that it's hard to understand if your windows are down. The annoying lady voice got to me, she sounds like a 40 year old smoker bar maid. lol
The map display is cheap looking, like the type of resolution I saw in old windows video games. The roads aren't drawn smoothly, they look like vector graphics, which are a series of straight lines to make a curve instead of drwing a curve.
But the worst part is that it's often confused about where I am or which way I'm facing; if I miss an off ramp, it takes a while for it to notice. And sometimes it thought I was facing the opposite way than I actually was, sometimes it thinks I'm on a different street adn it will go wacky in circles until it figures out where I am.
It doesn't have as many points of interest, which are sooo valuable.
And its bigger and bulkier than the nuvi.
Finally, I really don't like the way that the miles to your next turn is a tiny number at the bottom, I refer to that often. Oh and the cigarette lighter plug has an annoying bright blue light on it that distacts me at night with it's brightness.
What I do like is that it tells you what road you are on all the time. And it lets you enter addresses with zip code or city, where as the nuvi doesn't. It does seem to pick good routes to places
Bottom line, try a gps before you buy it -- only by using it for one night will you realize you can't stand anything about it and want your old one back!
- Magellan Maestro 3200 is a great GPS. It worked right out of the box and had less menus to get through to tell it where you want to go. Just need to trust the little system and listen to the directions. Very easy. Also easy to adjust to shortest distance, fastest time, or no highways or no toll boths. really easy to work with and see what is coming up.
Would recommend to a beginner for a GPS. Points of Interest were really fun as well! Can search by name or category.. never failed on our trip to NC then on to Myrtle Beach.
- I bought this unit a few weeks ago because I was going to a wedding on the other side of the state, and I have no sense of direction.I was concerned that I would get lost in the middle of nowhere.
So,never having used a GPS device before,I read reviews and decided on this one.
I'm very glad I got it.I got to and from the wedding worry-free.
The screen is very bright and colorful, and the"voice" is clear and loud enough to hear with the top down on my Jeep.
The set-up took about two minutes. After the co-ordinates were established from my house,I programmed the address of the wedding, and it mapped out the route clearly and easily.
I have since used it to see if it ever messes up,but so far it has not.
I really like this thing.I love all things electronic, but, living on a retirees budget,I had to get the best I could for the money I could spend. And I did,and I love it!!

- I bought this for my In-laws and they love it. It is very simple and very easy to use, even for the technology challenged. I love the POI for upcoming exits and the ease of use.
- I was looking for an inexpensive nav unit and liked this one. Nice features for the price and works well. Would be better if it spoke street names. Sometimes picks goofy route that you know isn't the shortest/fastest way. All in all, I'm happy with the unit.
- I have a Magellan Maestrol 3210 for our use and am so happy with it that I have purchased a second one as a gift. Great product !!
- I like this little thing. It has helped me get to a couple of places that were hard to find. However, I took me off the highway a couple of times only to put me back on the same highway just a few miles later. The map/software revision is almost two years old, so a new revision of the software and maps would probably fix that problem. It's still a nice piece of equipment and is leaving with me on vacation today.
- I was super excited to use this GPS after getting my parents a Magellan Maestro 3140 with great results months before. To it's credit, the unit was packed with more than 6 million Points of Interest, a ton of AAA hotel information, and camp site locations and info for the US and Canada! Amazing! I truly will miss access to that, but even that couldn't make me put up with this units major faults.
With trust built from my experience getting around San Francisco with the earlier Magellan model, I set out on a trip to Carson in Los Angeles. Not only did the Magellan Maestro 3210 lead me off the freeway extremely early, it claimed I had arrived 15 minutes away from my destination in Carson! After that, we left it on for comedy sake only and used a map to navigate to various places in LA.
I tested it closer to my hometown and it told me to turn in the opposite direction from my destination once I got off the freeway. I could have driven for hours in the wrong direction had I not wrote directions prior to leaving.
Beyond the fact that this unit led me astray many times, (which could be because that specific unit was defective), I found typing in addresses difficult. Depending on what zip follows the city and state you enter, you may not be able to enter the correct street number, regardless of everything else being correct. Quite annoying when you just want to program it and hit the road.
I would not recommend this model. My experience makes me want to try another brand altogether--though I may be tempted back to Magellan by all the camping and hotel info listed in it.

- I like it. This is awesome...takes me wherever I want to go accurately. I like the built in AAA Trip feature...great buy....five star rating.
- I've had the Magellan 4250 for about a month now and really like it. I have had some of the problems that others reported like a couple of times the voice has activated when not aked but not anything I would consider a problem.
The one draw back is the audio it isn't nearly loud enough.
Overall I really like it a lot and have found all the features voice and traffic alerts extremely helpful.
- This little device has already paid for itself in the month we have used it. No more guessing when your turn is coming up or which lane to be in. This little baby gets you there.
- I had a MIO C230 that I loved, but I dropped it and it broke, so I bought this through Amazon for $250, about $100 less than it was selling for at my local stores.
I have been very pleased with it. Works just as well as the MIO. It took a little time getting used to it. But now I don't have any problem. I just signed up for the 1yr traffic alerts, don't know if I like it yet. I was on a road that was closed for construction and it didn't warn me. It may only be good on highways.
Also, the voice command is very limited unless you just want to go home.
Quick tune in to GPS
- Amazon had the least expensive price on the Magellan 4250. It came with everything I needed included a carrying case. The Traffic notification was free for 1 year. I used it on a 633 mile trip. Road construction was taking place on 3 exits in Knoxville, TN, and the Magellan directed me through the detour without my having to reprogram or do anything, both toward my destination and on the return trip home. I used it to get to a second destination and it worked great there as well. It gave me plenty of time before getting to my exit, and told me which lane I needed to be in for the correct turns. It recalculated my route with each stop for gas or bathroom break. I can't say anything negative about my experience with this product, and would recommend it to anybody who travels.
