  1. The unit started to send error messages when I was loading the state maps off of the CDs. All data was lost (I spent several hours loading the data at that point), and then it wouldn't take any data off of the CDs at all. I ordered a different brand, and am much happier with it.

  2. I bought this item as a suprise for my husband, he uses it every day for work. He no longer has to print out maps, he just types in the address and it takes him right to his destination. Good product for the price.

  3. Worked well maybe once! After that I couldn't get a satellite lock no matter what. I live in sunny Florida. No reason for it to have such a hard time locking on. Too bad the actual GPS part didn't work well because the graphics, user interface and shape were quite nice.

  4. I have owned the product for over a year, and it has always performed wonderfully. Gets a GPS fix in 30 - 45 secs the first time you turn it on each day, and if you shut it off during the day, it fires right back up getting its GPS fix within 15 seconds. I have the 2005 Smart ST maps, and they are very accurate. I have only noticed a few incidents of mapping errors (telling you to make a turn that is illegal, house number range off, etc...) No major mapping problems though. I have tried the Magellan 360, and looked at others, Garmin, Tom Tom, and for the price, this is the best way to go. Get a fast SD Card, so you don't get lockups in the software - I had made this mistake initially - buying a cheap SD card, and it would freeze during route calculations. Picked up a 1GB Sandisk Ultra II, and it works great, no more freezing, and I have about 1/2 the USA loaded on the card. I absolutely recommend this to anybody who wants a quality GPS System at a reasonable price.

  5. NAVMAN iCN 510 Vs. iCN 520 Portable GPS Navigation System

My original purchase was a iCN 510, After about a year I bought the software upgrade that now ships in
the newer model, the iCN 520. with the new software installed, my older iCN 510 now has the same specs
as the iCN 520. Only the color is different.

Both on my bike and in my car, I can give a more robust review, after having used this unit for several
months in addition to testing it with its original software. My updated review is in the works now.
Below you will find my first review.

Both units should display every road you come across using clear and robust graphics.

It's easy to use as a "where am I now" indicator. However, trying to set it to take you to a destination using
the iCN 510 seemed to often be impossible to program. Very difficult. It can be done, perhaps, if you study
the manual. I don't have the patience. The iCN 520, however seems to have addressed this problem using
updated software. The new software makes it MUCH easer to input the address of your destination.

It color codes roads so you know if a road is a main road or a secondary road as you approach it.

It talks when you use it to lead you to a destination. This feature does work well.

For use in your car you can just use the supplied suction cup. While I was testing it on my motorcycle I first
tried using it unit under the clear map area of my tank bag so I could just glance down at it (when was safe
to do so) to choose a new road or to stay on my present road. With the 3D angle I can tell if a road approaching goes a distance or just loops back onto the road I'm already on. More recently I used several nylon restraints (the type used by the police for instant handcuffs) to secure the suction cup shaft to a flat surface just in front of my instrument cluster. Now I can see it at a glance without having to look down too far. I strongly suggest that you get a good mounting platform from a third party and mount the device securely under your fairing or to your handlebars if you intend to use this unit on a motorcycle.

This unit is intended for use in a car or truck it has not been optimized for use on a motorcycle. The button placement does not work well while wearing gloves. This unit is much less expensive than the made for motorcycle GPS units. I use it as a cross platform device (car & motorcycle) to save money and because at the time I bought it GPS units for motorcycles were selling for $1000 and were not cross platform.

As with most, if not all GPS units, you will need a windows PC to install the software and maps.

These GPS units come with software CDs with maps for Canada and the USA and regional maps for the East,
Central and West of the USA and you store the maps on a SD card.

The new model (iCN 520) has a new color scheme, comes with a SD Card and most importantly, comes with
    new improved software.

Also good news, if you already have a iCN 510 you can buy the new software and just upgrade the unit to
the improved software, essentially having a iCN 520 for the cost of the new software.

The iCN 510 may be available at discounted prices now! Also SD Cards are getting cheaper all the time. A 512mb SD card is supported by Navman and is big enough to get the job done.

Street price is about $325 to $500.

I will be posting a updated review in the next few weeks.

(This review is from my motorcycle / consumer electronics product review website ezrider.info)

5 comments about Navman iCN 320 GPS Navigator.
  1. I was really pleased to get the Navman iCN item, but getting it to work is a real problem. The first problem, if I set off for a new address I could drive to it, about 5 miles, without it establishing a GPS link. In other words no life except it saying "testing". The second problem, it seems to have a problem working out where it is, then when it does these appeares to the brain inside the box, an intersection, which gets no response at all. Still, it does make sense on longer journeys than short ones.

  2. Got an ICN 320 just before the Labor Day weekend and got to use
it for our trip to Wisconsin. This was our first road trip
where I did not bring a map, I had to put our full trust on
this product during the entire trip.

Happy to say that it did not let us down. The missed-turn navigation is also useful since there were a couple of times
where I missed a turn (both intentional and unintentional). It
automatically redirects us to the new turns within a few
    seconds.

Overall, there are still some features missing from this
product. But if you have a limited budget and all you need is
a basic GPS (plus some additional features) then this is
    definitely a good buy.

Pros: Easy to use, quite accurate, missed-turn navigation

Cons: Turn-by-turn navigation does not include the street name (e.g. just says: turn left in 1 mile), limited POIs

  3. I used the Navman 320 on a 900 mile trip. It worked perfectly. This is an amazing GPS unit for the price. Screen is clear and bright and it is very easy to program. It picked up the smallest details on turns and routes. I looked at the Tom-tom and Garman which were much more expensive. I'm sure they are good units also, but I can't see how they can provide a better GPS experience at 3x the price.

  4. I bought this just before the holidays to see if I really needed a GPS for my travels, thinking that if I really needed a good GPS, I would spring for a more expensive model.

I found that there is really no need to update to a more expensive model! this is a great no-frills GPS. Sure, it doesn't have a hard drive or an .mp3 player, but it does everything a GPS should and pretty well at that. The unit is light and intuitive to use. It comes with a suction mount and lighter adaptor, along with an SD card loaded with maps. A nice touch is the built-in battery, which is nice for shorter trips, where you don't want a lighter cord cluttering your dash. the display, while not the latest or greatest, is crisp and legible in varying light conditions. The voice is easy to understand and is easy to pick-out in when I'm listening to moderate volumes on my stereo. Another review complained that the voice guidance does not tell you what street to turn onto, but I think that is a plus. Besides, the next turns are clearly displayed on the screen. There are several different map views as well, pretty much offering a street level display or a zoomed-out display, plus you can preview your route with a Mapquest-like turn-by-turn lists. Rerouting is also fairly robust, immediately re-calculating your route if you miss a turn. Sometimes, the unit does not provide the quickest route, but that is common with many GPS navigators.

My only complaint is that the SD card needs updating; I was driving on the West Coast of Michigan on a highway that was completed shortly after the maps were created and the GPS thought I was driving to corn fields (lol). Also, because of the card, POIs are a little off as well.

As for complaints about the GPS acquiring satelites, this is clearly explained in the manual:

How long does it take to establish a GPS fix?

The first time a GPS product is used (known as the first fix* or factory start), it can take up to 15 minutes to obtain a GPS fix. This is due, in part, to the following:

    * The GPS product will spend time looking for the satellites it expects to be above its last known position, which may have been a factory in another part of the world. Only once it has realized it has been relocated, will it begin searching the entire sky for satellites.
    * Depending on how long ago it was manufactured, the GPS product may need to download the `GPS almanac' (data that tells the receiver the approximate orbit paths of all 24 GPS satellites for the coming months), which may take up to 12 minutes.

The next time you use the GPS product, it should take less time to establish a GPS fix, as it knows the location of the GPS satellites.

*A first fix also occurs if the GPS product's internal battery has fully drained, or the GPS product has been transported a large distance since last being used.

  5. This product was defective and never worked properly. It wanted us to turn left when right was appropriate. The directions popped up and were easy to use so I think if the product was working properly, it would be a great buy. We sent ours back and chose another brand.

  1. This thing is a peice of junk and buy dot com wont take it back after 20 days, it locks up with fatal application error and the maps are terribly out of date.ASIN:B000K2DHQW Sanyo NVM-4030 Navigation System]]

  2. I returned this piece of Junk.
    1) Maps are old
    2) If you are looking for good customer service, there aint any.
    3) Quality of GPS receiver is no good. Does not connect most of the times.
    4) If you switch off and switch back on, it wont find the satellite. You would need to exit the navigation mode and come back again.
    5) Bluetooth works well
    6) No voice conversion

  3. I used this unit to drive from NJ to conn. not only was it easy to program and use it was very simple to pair with my cell phone, it was clear and easy to use.

  1. The unit is very good when it actually worked.

For all the North American units, the settings on this GPS cannot be saved due to a software bug. So, every time you power off the unit, all your settings will be gone and need to be re-adjusted.

The ASUS service rep knew about it and said the patch is in work...when it was three months ago.

Total pain...I think ASUS should just stick to their motherboard business

  1. I purchased Nuvi360 for just more than 900USD, features and other things are good, but during Thanksgiving i got GPS from Mio for little less than 200USD. Both GPS worked well, i used Mio GPS in NY downtown under highrise buildings but there was no problem of finding signals, when we travelled via Lincoln tonnel we lost GPS signal (which is quite normal) but once we came out of tunnel GPS acuired signals in less than 30Sec and recalculated the distance and map.

I also used WALKING mode of Mio GPS to roam in NY and it was quite exciting.

I would recommand people to go for Mio (unless u want to have Traffic alert which is not in Mio but is part of NUVI 360).

  2. It is a valuable tool and has already saved me time. It comes in handy when you are in a new area or need an alternate route idea.

  3. VCery happy with this purchase! I bought the 360 over the 350 for the Bluetooth. So far it is a great unit: very accurate and fast. At Pricegrabber.com I found the best prices delivered. I would recommend this unit to anyone who travels. It is very easy to operate and attaches easily to the windshield or dash with a sturdy suction mount. It can also be set to play MP3 files and audio books.

  4. This is the first review I post for any product but I had to leave word. Nuvi 360 has it all: ease of use, thin, bluetooth, bright screen, accurate within a few feet. Optional traffic receiver sounds good but does not offer analysis of detour. Overall, I am extremely pleased and haven't left home without it.
