- This GPS is the same case as the Delphi GPS 200. My delphi completely quit after 1 month. If you look at other GPS models, you will see that many use this inferior case, NO RESET button? Excellent satt reception though, but longevity questioned, especially if it bugs out
- The GPS352 does not support text to speech. It will not call out the street names of the turns or exits. It only calls out the distance and the direction of the turn.
The maps are out of date. Roads that have been in my subdivision for 3 years are not on the map. As well as well known grocery stores. I would not trust this unit in unfamiliar areas. Of course that is the only reason to buy a gps unit...
The routing determined by the unit is very poor. It directs me to take local 2 lane roads the cross several railroad tracks (which are always busy) instead of the main 4 lane road which leads straight to the main highway. The unit ignores the fastest route and prefer highway selections.
The unit also replaces saved routes which are painstakingly created to avoid certain roads with the original calculated routes.
The windshield mount allows the unit to vibrate and shake making it difficult to read. When not shaking, the display is good.
- The item itself is very nice and helpful tool, however for a young person of 75 years, it is more than I need. I liked the product, but not who I purchased it from, as they would not allow me to return it because I found that it was too complicated for me when I opened the packaging.
- This is the 4th Uniden GPS-352 that I have purchased - and it was purchased for a friend of mine who had seen the operation of one of the others which I own. I like the product, compared to others on the market, due to it's increased capability to Zoom in and out with the switch buttons on the face - as opposed to requiring a touch of the screen (which it also has) which can be difficult when the vehicle is in motion. Improvements could be made in the mounting of the unit, the mounting arm is rather bulky and window mounting is illegal in California.
- This is email I received after asking about updating MapTraxx SD card. Sounds like present GPS352 units are out-of-date and will never up-to-date.

Uniden America Corp. has a development team focused on bringing new, innovative GPS products to the market. Recently we began developing software internally and plan to provide our own map updates for future GPS products. The GPS product you have does not have any map updates available and there are no scheduled updates for the future on that particular model. Uniden GPS units with updated maps are targeted to be available to consumers in 2009.

- This is a good basic unit and a reliaable GPS
The good points are:
auto-recalculates directions quickly
good size
easy to read display mountes on windshield
good battery life
can work in 'pedestrian mode' and carried in your hand
got satellite fix in a few seconds
good voice prompts as you approach a turn
You can select features to show on the map; ie. rest stop, gas station
Bad points:
seems to be no way to access the SD card from the unit - still working on it
not sure how to update maps from the Destinator web site?
if you delete a map it's gone No backup, no install disc
it includes a stylis but no place to store it
no way to disable the U turn fuction - it uses U turn sometimes to often if you go another way
no technical support and I still have not found a way to contact the company
also after several months the car charger broke and now I have to use a power converter and use the AC power adapter util I can find a replacement car adapter.
Over all it has been reliable and helpful and I consider it a good basic unit for the money
- The price is good, but you will never get the maps updated.
The preloaded maps are in 2005, and I found several locations in the map are incorrect in the first month of using it. So I was trying to update the maps, but there is no driver/software for the GPS. I have to read the manual very carefully to find a link (printed as a tiny line), where I can find a software to connect the GPS to computer. But, it turns out that the software is just a general synchronization program for portable devices. Also, the website mentioned in the instruction for map downloads does not support the Nortech GPS.
I have to contact with the costumer service to ask about how to update the map (which took me quite a while to figure out which one is the real costumer service for the GPS). After one week, they mailed me a CD, containing the "latest" (in 2006, some in 2005) maps they have.
I thought I could finally update the maps, but I was wrong again. I was so wise that I didn't update the local map for my state immediately, instead, I tried to update a map for another state. The update failed, with the map file corrupted. The reason was that the memory space was not enough. However, when I tried to delete some map (the map in Alaska), some other error prompted out. So, that means I cannot delete, therefore cannot update maps without adding SD card.
I haven't tried to add additional SD cards, and I won't try anymore, since the update is EXTREMELY slow anyway (it took >3 hours before complaining disk full in a 140MB update). Also I am afraid to mess up the map files, since it has passed the 90-day warranty period. So I will just get used to the map with some errors.
- I can't figure out why no one knew how to update this product. The detonator update is on the bottom on the product itself, right under where it's manufactured!
I entered my code and my detonator software doesn't expire until 2102.
My device will die before then, lol.
The only problem people have had with this product is software that can't update, if they figured out this...
3.5 inches is perfect for a 28 year old. I dunno who people were buying this for, 80 year olds? If so, get off the street and stop kiling people, gramps.
- Purchased from Sams club. Aftrer 2 months power cord broke could not find replacement. Looked on net for Web page for Nortech with no luck. I would not recommend this unit.
- My wife bought this through Sam's Club and the car charger broke. Sam's says it was a closeout and doesn't sell cords and the ferros - the distributor says the GPS is no longer made. I have looked on the net for hours and been to Radio Shack, Best Buy, and Circuit City and the car charger insert is a unique size and cannot be matched.
Don't buy this one. I bought my son a GPS (garmin) for 1/2 the price and it works twice as well.

- I purchased this unit to match an existing depth finder by Lowrance so the electronics would match on the helm. However I did not expect the SD card you really need to purchase to make this GPS usefull in the marine environment to be as expensive as it was. So expect to spend and additional $150 plus depending on your area of coverage.

5 comments about Navman iCN 510 32MB GPS Navigator.
- ******************************************
UPDATES: As of 2008, this unit is outdated. Navman no longer supports the icn510, and Garmin currently provides much better GPS units priced at about $[...]
******************************************
I was very reluctant before purchasing this GPS, since it is a "PDA-based" unit, and My Toshiba 740 is notoriously unreliable and prone to lose data. I ended up buying one used on EBay for $[...] and have been *mostly* happy with it since.
Even though this review might sound a bit negative, please be assured that I DO like my ICN-510 and would recommend it to others. I wanted a GPS because I get lost all the time and - just like any other man - never think in advance to get driving directions.
THE PROS:
- IT LOOKS GOOD: Both hardware and software. The main reason I bought the Navman - besides its price - was because I liked the look-and-feel of the maps and touch-screen. Compare it to some of the TOM-TOM models, which have cheap-looking plastic casings and a horrible screen interface.
- Great battery life: I mostly operate it on battery mode, only in a couple of instances I had to plug it in with the car adapter during long trips, but that was not a big deal at all. You can continue using it while it charges, if you don't mind the cable connecting it to the cigarette-lighter.
- It is VERY affordable: at around $300, I think it was a good investment. Since this is my first car GPS, I was not ready to spend seven hundred dollars on it, "just to see if it would be useful". Maybe next time.
Additionally, it is very easy to move it from one car to the other. It has a windshield attachment that works really well.
THE CONS:
- OUTDATED MAPPING: I live in Orlando, which is always growing, and some of the newly developed areas have huge holes in coverage.
As of jan 2006 I have tried to find updates for North America and have not seen any available. Mapping is provided by TeleAtlas.com, and their website really SUCKS...
Outdated mapping seems to be the most common complain amongst Navman users. Too bad...
- EXPENSIVE UPDATES: Even if TeleAtlas DID release an updated mapping base, I'm not sure if I would buy it. Why should you have to spend $100 bucks or more in mapping updates? It is a tough sell...
- YOU WILL NEED A MEMORY CARD. Not a big deal, since these things are so cheap nowadays. 30 or 40 dollars will solve your problem.
- ADDRESS-MATCHING COULD BE BETTER. Again, another problem related to poor mapping. Sometimes it is hard to find a certain address, even though you know it is there.
- POOR BUILT-IN SPEAKER: This is one of the few hardware-related flaws on this system. The voice guidance has a volume system that goes up to about 6 or 7 levels, but anything above the third level is above the capacity of the tiny PDA speaker, and it will become "crackly". If you have a noisy car environment, it will be hard to hear the spoken directions.
- THIS IS A CAR NAVIGATION UNIT. This is an important point, since you can only navigate through the ROAD NETWORK. Why is this important? My sister-in-law lives in a new side of town - which happens not to be mapped - and therefore I cannot "bookmark" her home or get any routing directions. The software will show my position, but it will not let me add a "waypoint" since "there are no roads around"
- Also, don't even think about it if you are trying to use it for things like geocaching or hiking. This is an automobile GPS only.
BUT HAVING SAID ALL THAT, I'm actually quite happy with the unit. I use it mostly for driving and finding alternate routes to bypass traffic, and for that it works great! The re-routing tool is very nice, and it helps me a lot when I do get lost, which happens very often.
So I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS UNIT:
- If you only want to spend about 300 to 400 dollars.
- If you are getting it for driving directions and quick re-routing.
- If you have no problem with the mapping coverage gaps in newly developed suburban areas.
Hope this helps, and good luck!

- I have had this little unit for two years and think its pretty darn good for its size and money. Its directed me to Yellowstone park from Bozeman airport with no problem. Its directed my girlfriend back from a camping trip with no problem..Its a neat little unit that works very well..I like it alot and im glad I bought it. I seldom use it but its nice to know i have it and it works.
- I've had this for about a year, and I'm fed up enough that I plan to purchase a new device. Some of the problems I've experienced:
-Completely useless for any kind of road trip, greater than maybe 100 miles. It sends you one way, recalculates, changes its mind and then tells you to go back the way you came, recalculates again and tells you to go the first way again.
-Absolutely refuses all toll roads, even if you don't have "avoid toll roads" selected.
-Plans U turns (not for corrective action, but actually desired) in inconvenient places, such as major freeways. Even if they're undivided, it ain't gonna happen.
-Every once in a while, you'll be on the route that it tells you to take, and it'll pop up a message saying "cannot get to destination". It refuses to recalculate, until you pull over and reset it manually, at which point it's fine.
-Completely useless in downtown Boston. Understandable, but highly annoying.
-Sometimes refuses to navigate to an address. It has a destination point marked on the map, there's a clear way to access it, but it decides to navigate somewhere else instead, usually a couple of blocks away.
-Requires zip codes. The interface is terrible, you can enter a neighborhood, and it'll pop up a list with 5 choices, all with the same name. If you choose the wrong one, it won't recognize your address. If you enter the zip code, usually works.
- I've had one of these for a little over 2 years. Slow start up, crash prone, outdated maps even when new. Frequently locks up and requires reset and re-entry of route coordinates. Buttons difficult to use-multi-function button extremely sensitive and tough to control. Many better choices on the market.
- I bought my Navman ICN 510 in 2005. 3 months ago I decided to upgrade the maps, because even for 2005 the maps were old.
I bought the software from Navman Australia, because I couldn't find it here in the US.
After 3 months of constant calls and e-mails to Navman I still cannot update my new software!!! Unbeliavable!
In the mean time I bought a Garmin 250. I didn't buy it in 2005 because I didn't know that Garmin was the best brand. I can tell you, my Garmin GPS is easier to use, comes with all maps from US and Canada and has a better interface. You just plug it and use it!
If you are wondering if you should buy a GPS, don't buy Navman, buy a Garmin GPS. http://www.amazon.com/Garmin-n%C3%BCvi-3-5-Inch-Portable-Navigator/dp/B000NW0Y9W/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1204621036&sr=8-1

- I got this GPS unit last week, and for an entry price range unit, I was really blown away by the performance and functionality of this unit. This unit only takes about 5 to 10 seconds to acquire satellites and locate my position, and I love the ability to select major road as a route option and the ability to navigate by higher level view or zoom in to local streets.
In the high level view, I really like that every street is named so I really know what's around me, and I can really see where I'm going. When I pull off route into a McDonald, the GPS recalculate my route in seconds when I get back on the road. I haven't tried out the MP3 player or the photo viewer yet, I am sure it work fine but I really don't need this unit for those function anyhow.
I've owned and use other navigation products from the Tom Tom One, to Mio C220, and even the Garmin Nuvi 360, I like this GPS unit the best. This product really exceed my expectation, so I highly recommend this product.
- I got it from staples, which has a very bad reviews. From my personal view, I found that this unit is reasonably good especially when you look at the text to speech function which is really nice at this price tag. It receive the GPS signals in about 1-3 mins, while the first time you use it may take longer time. The directions are clear and accurate.
One common problem one may encounter is that this unit may automatically shut down. However, after you change the setting for the sleep time, the problem will be gone. Some guys in the staples review give this unit a poor score due to this, while they don't know /change this setting.
The turn by turn and text to speech function is excellent. Some other guys in the staples review found that the battery maybe poor, however, for me ,it may last about 2 hours. This is reasonable for me since most of the time you will drive you car. Another good thing is that you can charge the battery by directly connected to computer.
Some minor problems with this unit is that it may not respond very quickly (compared to MIO C220) when you touch the screen. However, it is good enough to handle.
Anyway, this unit is a deal especially when you can get at a sub200 price.
- Bought one, had to take it back because at full volume I couldnt hear it. Got another and still had the same problem. Now I have a Garmin and can hear it fine.
- I loved everything about this unit. It was super-easy to use. Quickly responsive. Provided street names. Had all the features one could want. But we regretfully had to return it after one short trip. We soon discovered that when traveling at a faster speed on the open road, the volume, even at maximum, could not be heard over the normal road noise in a Honda Accord. If you're alone in your vehicle, no music and just in-town traveling, it would be ideal.
- It's 3-in-1 product. gps, mp3 player, and picture viewer. I did not use other than gps. It's a great product other than
1. It can be slow to update. On road it can be annoying, if your turns are within 200 feet or less. By the time gps's done saying, I've already missed the turn at the speed of 20miles/hour.
2. It does not get gps signal that easily.
good value for the price overall.
