  1. I can't RAVE enough about my Garmin StreetPilot 2610! I have been over 10,000 miles with this GPS and it works great all of the time! It has never been lost or confused (like my Honda in-car navigation, it stinks), it tracks well with my vehicle and it ALWAYS is within 2 minutes of time it shows I will be there. If I start a 300 mile trip and it shows my arrival time at 5:30 PM, you can bet I will arrive at the door no later than 5:32 PM! It is truly amazing! It seems to even take into account short potty breaks for the kids!

If I am driving down the road and I get hungry or need gas, I click "find" on the remote and select the food or gas category and viola' it shows me how far I am from what establishment, then I click the one I want and it routes me there. That simple. :)

I know it's an older product, but it still works great! The remote is VERY handing, but the touch screen works well, too.

It isn't very often these days that I am so COMPLETELY satisfied with a product, but this has been one of those products. I am one of those people who like the latest electronics, but yet I am still satisfied with OLD Garmin StreetPilot.

If you buy one, you will need the newest (08/2006) mapping software for it, version 8, to get the most out of your new GPS. A 2GB compact flash will store the entire US and all POI(points-of-interest) for you. Garmin will also let you use the software on up to 2 Garmin GPS's, so you could buy 2 used ones and upgrade the software.

That's all I have for now. Did I mention that it works great?

  2. Paid more than $600 for 2 year of usage, it was great for 1-1/2 year. After I realized the satellite signal was getting weaker, I saw more satellite drops even in the wide open area (rural area), like HWY-5. Now even for more than 10 minutes after power up, no signal at all, I updated the latest firmware, it doesn't get any signal at all. The GPS never been dropped, always put it back in the bag after usage.

  3. We received this product in great condition and within the timeframe expected. The product met expectation and functions properly. We appreciate the service Burlington provided us.

  4. I love this product and use it all the time. I wonder now what I would do if I didn't have my navigator. Continue to get lost I guess.

  5. When I first bought it all I get was misleading route.
I got lost more than 10 times. Not too precise in turning and very confusing route.
Now, I have the Navigon 5100 which I am very happy with my purchase.

  1. I would not recommend this product unless you want to be frustrated. The DVD instructions did not work in any DVD player I had. Then I discovered I must use a pen stylus for inputting addresses but there was no place on the unit to store the stylus. I guess they assume you are going to buy your own velcrow to keep from losing it. The idea that you need a stylus is very bad as with a Garmin your fingers do the work. I had a hard time trying to figure out how to input correctly on this unit. But without instructions on their DVD that did not work I wanted to call their customer support. It was Saturday morning and I called. They told me they have no Saturday or Sunday business hours and to call back Mon-Friday 8-5. This is my working time so that does not work for me. I guess Delphi has not figured out they are selling a customer product which requires some support and their customers would like support when they are not at work themselves. In any case, I returned the unit to Delphi and purchased a Garmin from Sams Club. I needed no assistance on the Garmin and quickly had it taking me to destinations without a stylus.
I paid a little more but there is no comparison. I suggest Delphi get some real marketing people working with their engineers in the future.

  2. I was disappointed to find out that if you are wearing sunglasses, you can't see the screen. While the NAV300 works great, I was also disappointed with the voice commands. They are hard to understand and don't have a TX drawl. I think a cheaper model would be a better buy. I like the Bluetooth, but the MP3, video, pictures, etc. are wasted features. The speed alert is very helpful on major highways and POIs are a great addition to plain roadway signs.

  3. I bought this GPS around Christmas - 2007 for $150. It lists for $399. I had originally ordered another GPS but the store, where I made my purchase, lost my original order. I agreed to accept the Delphi NAV-300 because it was supposedly of equal or greater value.

The good, the NAV-300 does what it is supposed to do. Punch in a destination and it gets you there, as long as the destination is on the GPS map. I was able to find a particular place in Boston, MA that I would never have found without it. It worked well under a mile of road tunnel.

The bad, I noticed a few quirks right way. For example, when driving on the interstate, right in the middle of the highway with no exits approaching, it will tell you to, "Now turn left," making it necessary for me to turn the volume down. Another problem with this particular unit is that I have not seen a single map update since I purchased the NAV-300. I noticed recently that the NAV-200 had a map update through a third party vendor for $99. The other day, I went to Gray, Maine and it could not find a road. When traveling a stretch of newly built highway, the GPS went off the map. I am guessing I will have to eventually pay for a new map if I want improved service.

This GPS works fine, most of the time, with the existing map but it certainly is worth no more than the $150 that I paid for it, especially if I have to pay a high price for future map updates. I would strongly recommend another brand because it seems that Delphi does not offer maps for any of their GPS units and the NAV-300 is supposed to be a higher-end model.

Buyer beware - do not purchase a GPS unless the manufacturer promises, up-front, free map updates for the life of your unit, otherwise, you will be paying down the road (no pun intended).

5 comments about TomTom GO 300 Portable GPS Navigator with Maps of US Pre-loaded on SDd.
  1. I used it around my city and even took it to Hawaii and it was a lot of help. People forget that the idea of the GPS is to help you find where you are, where you want to go and how to get there but like everything else, it may not be 100% correct -what really is?

What I didn't like about it was the windshield mount broke so it no longer sticks on the windshield.

The biggest thing is that the maps are out-dated. I live in an area where they are building a lot of new homes. Even developments that are 2 years old aren't on the map!

I don't mind paying for updates - I realize that someone has to get paid to update the maps - but I will not pay several hundred dollars to buy a whole new set of maps!

  2. This GPS comes with US map on the SD card and Canada map on the included CD but never the twain shall meet.

By car I'm a few hours from Canada and several days from the eastern US but I can't swap out the faraway eastern US part of the map on the TomTom Go 300 for a nearby Canadian map. It's either all Canada or all contiguous US. This is a major functional flaw if you live near the US/Canada border or live further away and like to take cross-border trips.

Oh, and if you do decide to swap out the US map, be sure to save it on your computer first - TomTom doesn't bother to provide a backup on the CD so if you don't first make your own backup before changing to the Canadian map you can't later get the US map back.

  3. Hi,
I'm a TomTom addict. I've been addicted ever since I first plugged in my TomTom 300 and found a new way to work. Ever since, I've relied on my tomtom to get me from point A to point B.
The user interface is easy to use, intuitive and clever and allows me to find nearby restaurants, hotels or even train stations nearby.
My tomtom is so great, I've even let friends borrow it at work when they have a meeting with a client they have never been to before.
There are some problems: anytime I find my way somewhere using my TomTom, I can't find my way home without the Tomtom. That's why I'm addicted.
It's reduced my frustration in the car and made me really happy.
    Thanks TOMTOM.
    Your friend,
    NEver Lost Drew

  4. I first saw the GO 300 in action in Europe during an extended visit/tour with my son, who was living in Austria. The system guided us to sites in Austria, Germany, Czech Republic, Hungary, Italy...flawlessly, despite some recalculation of routes (it guided us to some very arcane locations in the Czech Rep., as well as Croatia and Italy). I bought one in June, 2006, and have used it extensively for travel in the USA, and have not been disappointed. I am very impressed with the speed with which a new route is calculated, for whatever reason.

I have found the customer support, both online and via telephone to be excellent in solving any problems. For the price of the GO 300, it is a true bargain, although it was not the first unit I bought, based on spotty reviews - the first was a Garmin C340, but after a short time, I grew very tired of voice commands to change direction, or "turn here" after I had passed the intersection.
I know the GO300 has been superseded by improved versions, but TomTom gets my vote for reliability and intuitive ease of use. The only complaint I have is the instructions which accompany new software, or downloads from the internet - they don't always work, but phone calls have always solved the problem.

  5. First of all, I love having a GPS. My job requires me to travel most of the state of New York as well as other places, and it is unbelievable how much time a GPS saves vs using MapQuest, Streets & Trips, etc. The problem with the Tom Tom GPS units is that their maps are woefully inaccurate! I would say 90% of the time they are right on, but the 10% they are off is costly (and can be dangerous if you wind up in the wrong part of the wrong town!) I called their technical support several times and was assured I had the latest maps. I recently stopped in their Boston headquarters and found out I could "Buy" the "real" updated maps for $49. Since my unit was less than a year old, the tech service rep felt guilty and updated my map and software for free. I now own one up-to-date unit, and two out-of-date units which I refuse to pay $49 each to get maps I should have had in the first place.

3 of my friends bought Garmin C330's and have NEVER had an issue with their maps. I just bought my daughter a GPS, and guess what... I bought her a Garmin. I've seen similar complaints on-line about Garmin charging for updated maps, but so far none of my friends have needed them.

My advice...try the Garmin, and buy it from a reputable dealer where you can exchange it if you're not satisfied.

5 comments about Nextar 3.5-Inch GPS Vehicle Navigator (Black).
  1. I received the P3 for Xmas 2007. I was very impressed with the accuracy and ease of use for the first week while driving to and from work and stores. On my first long trip (3 hours) the unit kept freezing and had to be turned off and on around 20 times during the trip. On most reboots we had to wait 3-4 minutes for it to pick up a new signal. Twice it came up with a "Fatal Software Error" on the screen. I called Nextar and they said my unit was defective. I returned it to the store for a full refund.

  2. I bought this gps expecting very little given it's unknown name and low price. What a surprise! It is very well built and works right out the the box. This is my first gps and I found it very easy to use. I have it working in less than 10 minutes and it acquired the signal right away. There are some features that you will not find in this unit like real time traffic etc. that would have warranted only a four star. However, given it's price and what you got, it is worth a five star.

  3. I trusted some positive reviews and took the plunge and got it. Wow what a mistake. The first problem is that it makes a horrible sound when you plug it in to charge it and when you unplug it. The other part is that its not upgradeable and only comes with the USA map. The mp3 player is pointless as you would need to change sd cards out beefore you could use it. The software is glitchy and doesn't work when hooked up via usb to your computer. The points of interests are poor as well with very limited info. It boasts 1.6 million but doesn't even find a walmart, costco, or some other local stores that have been in business for over ten years at their current locations. Nextar wants you to pay for updated maps. Many name brand competitors give you upgrades for free. My suggestion would be to buy a tomtom for about 50 bucks more and at least in a year youll be able to find the places you need. I paid 114 and believe i overpaid, 50 bucks is more like it for a throw away gps.

  4. This was a gift and did not work out of the box. The GPS could not read map data from the SD card. Tech Support couldn't do anything so they referred me to customer service. I placed 5 calls to customer service and was never able to speak to a live person. None of my messages were returned. If you read this string of reviews, they are critical of Nextar for a reason. Nextar has no consideration for YOU - their customer. I don't recommend buying anything from a company that operates like this.

  5. I bought this GPS unit from Bed Bath and Beyond with a 20% off mailing, even after reading the reviews here. (there's also a $30 rebate on it additionally at BB&B).

I was very skeptical, but the price was right. I noticed that I originally had trouble getting a satellite signal... *until I read the manual* ... and I have had NO PROBLEMS since! :)

I have used it on several trips -- battery life wasn't terrible, but definitely take a charger on trips over an hour.

Also, the car charger for unit included fits my blackberry phone (extra bonus, in my book).

This is a great, inexpensive GPS unit. I enjoy it very much, and I think you could too!!
