  1. Be careful. Model Number says PC 10 10-Foot power cable. Got package and it says it is a 6 foot cable, same thing that comes in the box with the Hummingbird GPS/Fishfinder unit.

  1. I got the 276c for my truck and boat. I love the portablility of the unit. Rather dissapponted, however with the basemaps.

Adding the auto kit has breathed new life into my GPS. The beanbag mount is very sturdy, the new maps are quite detailed and the data card allowed me to upload way more maps that I'll use in the near future.

    I didn't think I'd ike the voice prompts, but I gotta admit - it's kinda cool :)

I found it a little cheaper online, but three times (not through Amazon) there were issues with filling the order. Amazon shipped that day, and I got it two days later.

Do yourself a favor - buy the auto kit, and buy it from Amazon. Saves time, tax and headaches.

  2. This is another product that displays the Garmin marketing scheme -- sell a bare bones base unit and then get you with the accessories that you really need. If you have any intentions to use their GPSmap 276 or 376 on the road, this kit is a mandatory buy. Otherwise, the 276 or 376 can only really be used on the water. The bean bag mount is okay, but the swivel doesn't provide the ability to tilt backwards, so it doesn't work if the unit is below eye level. Take a look at the Lowrance Iway 600c, all the automotive pieces come in the box.

  3. Ordered Garmin Automotive Nav Pack - Amazon process, billing, shipping went great. Problem arose when I tried to use the online unlock process from Garmin to download the CD into my laptop. I could not get the unlock code on line so I phoned Garmin three times and was told I would have to wait on the phone for thirty minutes. Finally I got through to Garmin on the phone and was told yes they were having problems with the online process. They gave me a "long" code which worked fine. Security is important but Garmin made the unlocking process a real chore. Why not include the "long" code with the product in the box? Mike T.

3 comments about GARMIN 010-10309-00 Etrex Holster.
  1. Don't buy this holster if you own any of the eTrex color Cx versions. The units are too thick to fit in the holster. This is Garmin's misrepresentation, not Amazon's. Garmin doesn't make a case or holster that fits the Cx versions. Buy a camera case that fits your unit at Best Buy or Circuit City and you won't be stuck with this pricey and useless Garmin product like I am. If there was a "0 star" rating available, that would be more applicable.

  2. I have used this holster for my Garmin Vista C for over two years now and this is an excellent solution, particularly for hiking. The unit fits snugly into the case and the flap protects it from damage on the trail. Yet when you need to look at the unit, it's quick and easy to pull out with one hand. It's also a comfortable way to carry the unit in a backpack, car glovebox, etc. The case has solid sides so the unit is well-protected, even if it gets knocked about a bit. You don't have to worry about it getting dinged up while in this holster.

I have no idea what the previous reviewer is talking in saying this case doesn't fit Cx models because this holster absolutely DOES fit the eTrex Vista HCx. I recently ordered the Vista HCx and, because I was so happy with this case with my older Vista C, I ordered another one. Later, I saw that review and was quite worried about it. But it had shipped so there was nothing to be done but to wait for it and see what happened.

I received the HCx and holster from Amazon today and the Vista HCx slid into the holster exactly like my older Vista C did. Sure the fit is tight. It's supposed to be. And yes, you have to give it a good tug to get it out, but that's just because the sides and back of the Vista are made of rubber so it grabs onto the material of the holster. Folks, that's a good thing (unless you like the idea of watching your expensive GPSr falling out and bouncing over the side of a cliff)!

I can also tell you from my experience with the older one that the holster and eTrex adapt to each other and they go from tight to nicely snug very quickly. Yet the case never lets the GPSr actually get loose so you never have to worry about the eTrex slipping out.

Anyway, take it from someone who has used it for a couple of years now. There is no better way to carry your eTrex (new or old) than this. Now if Garmin would just make one of these for my GPSMAP 60CSx, I'd be all set.

  3. I agree with Crocuta. This holster fits my brand-new Vista HCx snuggly and perfectly. It may be overpriced, but it will hold your Garmin far more comfortably and securely than some generic camera case. The only issue I've come across is that I cannot put it in the holster when I have the dash mount clip on it, but if I take the clip off the GPS, it fits great.

5 comments about Tom Tom Navigator 6 Software with Maps of the US and Canada (DVD) and Bluetooth GPS Receiver.
  1. Tomtom maps and application is not a reliable product that you can count on when you are traveling and do not have access to your PC and the disks. This is the second time that the application has stranded me and I am writing this review for others interested in purchasing this program not to get in a situation like I have, and Tomtom staff to read and fix the problem.

I purchased a Tomtom with an HP PDA to travel through Europe (mostly Italy). I installed the software and got an authentication code from the site they specified and started using the device. After about a month of use, and feeling confident that I did not need a paper map, we took a trip to Florence, following Tomtom's direction. After about 20 minutes, the program froze. It would not even respond to a soft reset. I had to take the battery out to get windows CE up and running. After the operating system restarted, I started Tomtom program. It asked me for an activation code. Have in mind that I am in the middle of Italian countryside and not sitting in Silicon Valley. I had to call my office and they went to my office and found the original CD's, went to the authentication site and got the activation code. I found this to be just unreasonably senseless. I appreciate copy right protection, but the people who thought of this scheme must not go out of the office much. I thought of writing a review but did not and latter forgot about it.

I recently bought a cell phone/PDA that has a built in GPS. To avoid having a phone and GPS I tried installing the European map on this phone (it already had the US maps on it). I went through the installation which took for ever and went to the website and got the activation code and tried entering it and it says that the activation code is not valid! So, I call Tomtom support in UK from Germany. The first customer service person was very nice and gave me some advice on how to get an update. I followed the advice and it still did not work. I called the support line again, this time a Mr. Rick answered. This person needs to be assigned to a different department. He basically spent 30 minutes lecturing me on software copy protection. He then asked me to do a hard reset. I told him I did not know how to do the hard reset. He spent another 10 minutes telling me that he is not an HP specialist and that I need to contact HP for support. At this point, I realized that this person was not able to help resolve the problem and asked for escalation to a supervisor. Rick (customer service rep) said that the supervisor would not take my call because I did not do what he was telling me to do (which was not exactly true, because I asked him to help me with the reset and he would not).

I got off the phone and went to the HP site and downloaded the user's manual and did a hard reset. This caused everything to be erased (including my addresses), and Tomtom program to be deleted. And guess what, I call the customer service number again, and they did not know what to do. So, they asked for more time to research the problem and to call me. In about 4 hours not having heard from them, I called again, and this time they told me to download another program that would resolve the problem. I downloaded and it did not solve the problem. I got an email a couple of hours latter telling me to use the original SD card (which is back home) to resolve the problem.

So, to make a long story short, this is not a reliable device and for anyone who has traveled in unknown places, it is a nightmare.

  2. I wasn't to activate over the phone's wireless connection, but otherwise the install went fine. Great product, use it everyday to handle Los Angeles traffic (loves how it generates new routes when you have to abandon the original one).

I have connectivity issues with Tom Tom Traffic, and it doesn't always seem to know about the delays, so I'm not sure I could recommend that added feature.

  3. This product simply does not work on either the Treo 700p or the Treo 700w, despite any claims that TomTom makes to the contrary. (The box lists both of these as supported models.)

Let me preface my review by saying that I write software for Treo phones for a living, so I know these phones inside and out. However, that knowledge did not help me get this GPS to work.

I was excited to receive this GPS as a Christmas gift. However, when I installed the software on my Treo 700p, the installer displayed a message that this was an incompatible device. The 700p is listed on the box as a supported device, so this didn't make any sense. I tried updating the ROM on my 700p to the latest 1.10 ROM that is available from Palm, and that did not help. I also downloaded an update for the TomTom software for the Treo 680 (available on Palm's site). That did not help either.

After messing around with this and searching the web for 2-3 hours, I gave up and started over on my Treo 700w, which is also listed as supported on the box.

This time, the software installed and looked like it was working except that it couldn't detect the GPS. I followed the instructions very carefully for pairing the Bluetooth connection and setting up a COM port to communicate. (By the way, this process is ridiculously difficult for the average customer, but it is doable.) I tried several different COM ports and configuration options, and nothing worked. I was following word-for-word the instructions on TomTom's website.

I tried to contact TomTom at one point, but their website thwarted me. First, their website was ridiculously slow, taking up to 5 minutes to load each page. Next, you have to create an account to submit a support question. That seems like overkill, but I did so. Finally, once you find the support page (which is well-hidden), if you type too much in your support question, you get an error message that tells you to press the Back button and update your question. When I pressed the back button, I was upset to find that it had lost everything I had written.

At this point, I gave up, and I am asking the gift-giver to return this awful product for something that works.

I have used TomTom stand-alone GPS units in the past and really liked them. But this experience has really soured me on the brand.

  4. The software doesn't play nicely with Apple computers or Nokia. TomTom has made a more Mac friendly program available through its website, but after downloading that it wouldn't install on my phone. I have a Nokia E62, and the TomTom software makes it so that I can't access the numbers on my phone, so I'm unable to put in the product code properly to access the maps. TomTom has designed its software in such a way that it's a complete waste of time and money for certain devices.

  5. While it is very cool having my palm centro act as a GPS map aid using a keychain bluetooth GPS receiver, I have to give this product the lowest rating for one major reason: tom tom doesn't provide map updates. Even if they did, updates for four regions would end up costing 150% more than the this software which includes dozens of maps.

  1. Setup is easy, but they want you to share out your device from your computer for additional updates. The first time we used it was to a city at the top of a mountain. It routed us from the main highway thru a street up the side of the mountain. I guess it was supposed to be the most direct route, but it wasn't even a paved road. The road didn't even show up on the Google maps. Battery life seems to be short and te car charger didn't work very well in the car outlet.

  2. The case was nice and strong protect but the zipper part hard to pull up and down and too weak.

  1. This is a great little case. I use the velcro loop to attach it to the handlebars on my bicycles and it keeps the GPS nice and clean even on exceptionally muddy mt. bike rides. The clip is nice for hiking or attaching to my camera bag. My only gripe is that it is almost impossible to press the power button on my Geko while it is in this case, forcing me to pull it out to power the unit on and off.
