4 comments about Garmin compatible PC Interface Cable with Cigarette Lighter Power Adapter for StreetPilot III, 60C, GPSMap 60C & 60CS, 72, 76, 76C, 76CS, GPS V, etc. (4-pin connectors).
  1. the cable is great and works perfectly. i paid for 3 day shipping and it took over a week to get here from the shipping notice i was emailed

  2. Product works as advertised, build quality seems good. This cable set allows use of 12 volt DC power with any Garmin GPS that has the round 4-pin DIN connector. I purchased this cable for use with a 60CX. The 9-pin Serial connector provides RS-232 connectivity of the GPSr to other devices, typically a laptop computer. On my 60CX, the RS-232 connection is used only for NMEA-0183 communications, all other I/O is via the USB connection.
NOTE: NMEA-0183 allows your GPS to send navigation position data to devices like a Marine autopilot or chartplotting software. This cable would be a good choice for using a 60C series or similar Garmin GPSr on a boat or RV where the owner is running real-time navigation software on a PC, or wants to connect a 60C to a marine autohelm or tiller autopilot device.
This cable can also be used in a automobile or RV to provide 12 volt power only to the GPSr, without using the RS-232 connector, although there are other low-priced power-only cables available for this purpose are are less bulky.

  3. The cable works flawlessly. I used the cable on a long trip (14+ hours) with no problems. I have also used the data adapter to provide data to an APRS beacon radio and that worked fine.

  4. This is fairly bulky, but it works great. I wish it had a USB instead of serial port. The connections fit securely which is appreciated since the last one I purchased for a diff't model had very loose connections.

  1. I own three car type GPS's and the one I use the most is my Tom Tom. Well, as many of you know the Tom Tom does NOT come with a decent mount. The mount with the Tom Tom literally is a piece of junk that doesn't stay "connected" to your dash or windshield. So, I searched for a replacement mount and thought I would try this one. It is perfect! It has a suction cup type base with a latch that literally locks it to the windshield or your dash mount. I have had mine mounted with GPS attached for weeks and it has not come off yet. It has two separate adjustments for positioning and it extends about 8 inches or so which puts the GPS closer to you for viewing. I cannot say enough about this GPS mount! You won't be disappointed with your purchase.

  1. A finding, so good, I was short on selling my nuvi 200W, just called to garmin's customer service, good advice, great product, no regrets.

  2. I am very happy with it, easy to install it, no problems,
At now I have no tested in really life but im planning a trip and I Will do it, I think it will be a great product as his "twin" City Navigator North America, the same kind of info and tools (routes, POI, Details)

Note : This DVD provides more than 2GB info, and you can't store it in the same card, the Garmin 60 CSX only accepts 2GB in the same card, don't pretend to buy a 4 GB card in order to store all the data, instead of that, prior your trip, select the regions you will need.

  3. My family and I recently went to visit my daughter who lives in Austria. We used our Garmin 550 and the recently purchased downloaded CD map information. We put the maps on an SD card rather than load up the unit itself. The directions from Munich Airport to her home in Austria were wonderful and got us there without a glitch. We had been awake for 42 hours by the time we arrived and were glad we did not need to try to follow paper maps in the car while enroute. However, there was one glitch. We decided to drive one day from her home in Austria to Chesky Krumlov, a small and beautiful are in the Czech Republic. Evidently I had forgotten to change my unit from the shortest route to whatever would have gotten us there via a BETTER route! We traveled for miles and miles over twisting and turning roads (unlike the route we had taken a few years ago without the GPS),through areas which we had never seen before (interesting and beautiful but not when you only have so much time. At last our GPS unit announced we were arriving at a ferry!! Only there was no ferry operating. Perhaps during the summer season there is, but the unit did not tell us that! We then had to back track for miles, again over hilly and winding terrain while the unit did some "recalculating", again traveling up and down roads that resembled a corkscrew. We eventually came upon the route which we had traveled a few years ago (pre GPS days) and were more than happy to finally reach our destination at noon. We did not use the unit for the return trip back to my daughter's as we were sure it would again head us towards the ferry! At the end of our vacation, we used the GPS European maps and they got us back to the Munich airport wihout any problems. I am not sure how to avoid errors such at the one which took us to the ferry, but I would again use this CD to get us to destinations on future trips, perhaps checking a paper map along the way as well!

  4. Dont travel to Europe without it. I drove in the past without GPS and its way to stressful. They all have quirks but not many with a Garmin NUVI

  5. Great product...would recommend to anyone with a Garmin going over to Europe. I installed it on my computer and found it very easy to use and being able to select the actual area I wanted was nice because it saved TONS of memory space on my GPS.

  1. TomTom GO 720 4.3-Inch Widescreen Bluetooth Portable GPS NavigatorI am very happy with the purchase of this GPS. It does everything it says it will do except for the bluetooth connection to a phone. I have the Motorola Razer and have the Bluetooth connection on but the GPS doesn't see it. If that's the only problem, then I don't have a problem.

  2. Very well thought out product.
The cord seperates from the body of the charger to allow you to hook up to your computer. The power adapters are a nice touch if you are in europe. Works fine and lets me keep tomtom charged up and NOT in my car.

  3. recieved this product quickly ; I also thought it was reasonably priced, and it was exactly what I needed for my TomTom one xl since I had misplaced my first one and we were going on vacation. thank you!

  4. Fast delivery of a good product. Would be better if it was packaged along with original product tho.

  5. On the subject of the optional TomTom charger, if you're traveling abroad (as we often do) connecting your TomTom to a laptop might not be convenient, and you dare not leave your TomTom in the car to charge, so having a charger with the appropriate adapters will allow you to charge your TomTom in your hotel room (perhaps at night while you sleep). I have to agree with "Robert Joseph Martinez Jr. "D70S Guy", these options are not necessarily meant to deceive but rather to simply offer more choices depending on your situation...

  1. I now have their latest TOPO! 4.5, but cannot use it with my California State series maps. I've been exchanging e-mails with their customer support and they basically just recycle cut and paste's from their web site. At first I took their instructions (often contradictory) seriously and did everything they said, but none of it works. To make sure I tried it on a different computer. No go. The software often hangs up for long time, so anything you try kills a lot of time. I think it is just a very badly written code with no backward compatibility. I'm going to start looking for another product.

  2. With TOPO, it makes a big difference if you copy the maps from the CDs to your hard drive. That results in a much faster and better experience. Directions for copying the maps to your hard drive are on the Topo web site. Some reviewers do not realize that.

The digital maps are an extremely good value compared to paper maps!! Live Map Updates is a feature of version 4. You can download the current maps and street overlays for the quads you are interested in! And that is free.

I have used versions 2, 3, and 4 of this product. Version 2 was excellent. Versions 3 and 4 are incremental improvements. On Amazon, it isn't always clear which version you are buying. Go by the dates -- version 4 was released in 2006.

The software is excellent. My only complaint is that it is a bit complicated to install. I don't think it has ever crashed on me. I use it a lot, and discover new features all the time. It is not hard to learn. GPS support is great, in my experience.

  3. Do not waste your money on this horrible software. Even on a 2.4 GHz, 2 GB RAM MacBook Pro, it staggers to run. It takes an average of 20 seconds just to change zoom levels and pans incredibly slowly. Try drawing a route and half the time the whole thing freezes and crashes and you have to start over. I'll say it again - DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!

  4. TOPO! has the worst user interface ever created. It doesn't follow the standard user interface designed by Apple, Adobe, and Microsoft.
    - There's no hand tool to move around the map--rather you have to move your cursor to the edge of the screen and click to push the map around. Hard to control and creates lots of cursor movement
    - The tool to draw routes is hard to control

  5. this product (CA version) is listed for $149 at Amazon and at $99 at the National Geographic website and at REI. What's up with that? 50% over the MSRP?

  1. I was puzzled before purchasing this item, because no where in the descriptions does it explain how this device attaches to your car or if the bottom of the unit is a large rubber suction cup or what? The photo doesn't answer that question either.

So now that I purchased one, and know, I will answer it.

The bottom of this mount is just a flat plastic bottom with four holes so you can attach it with screws to something. (or you can attach velcro to it, and velcro it to something)

I was not about to screw this device into the dash of my car!

I also don't like the idea of sticking velcro to the dash either, so I was holding it all around the interior of the car wondering where I was going to put this thing...

And then I saw the cup holder!

The cup holder in my car slides in and out of the dash, and when it is pulled out, this device sat on top of it and I could hold it to the cup holder with one big rubber band and it didn't fall out or move around all day driving with it holding the GPS in place. Then I got another idea...

Why not attach this device onto something that can slide in and out of the cup holder like a cup does.

You can take any plastic cup or small jar that has a top that attaches securely or screws on. Then bolt this device onto the lid with 4 screws, and screw the lid onto the jar or cup, and then you just slide the whole contraption into a cup holder when you need it. This device allows you to position the GPS at every possible angle so you can have it looking right at you no matter where your cup holder is located.

If the four holes in the bottom plate of this device are too far apart for the lid you are using, you can always drill new holes closer in. Or expoxy the whole thing to whatever you have that fits in your cup holder nice and snug.

There are many cheap heavy duty plastic car mugs you can find with thick plastic lids that are wide enough for this device and the cups taper off to a smaller diameter at the bottom to fit into car cup holders that can be used for this project.

  2. The Magellan eXplorist Swivel Mounting Bracket works as advertized. Not a massively robust unit by way of construction but well designed. It does the job it's intended for with few problems. I would have given it 4 stars if it were built stronger.

  3. Mount was built decently. I also have the windshield mount and an atv handlebar mount. They are all based off of the same "clip style" mount.
