1. We bought this GPS unit back in 2004 for cross country. It was great then. Then we did a software upgrade last year (2006) ,and this year the unit is basically non-functional now. The unit freezes upon processing data/destination route. This is really disappointing for a company that sells the unit (originally new for over $1K). We expected to get more life out of this unit. Additionally, we inquired about the unit repair--we would have to fork over another $200 to get the unit fixed after last year's upgrade, which cost us about $200 then--to find out the warranty for the upgrade is only for 3 months. What kind of warranty is that? What company would have so low confidence in their product to only offer a 3 month warranty? $200 is no small amount. Recommend buying a GARMIN. Magellan people have a lot of problems to fix!



2. The maps on this remanufactured GPS were so old, it was useless without an update.



3. Bought one of these a year ago. The speaker went out and I sent it in (with RMA) for`warranty repair. A few weeks later Thales sends me a Roadmate 2000 (with 90 day warranty) and says that they are sending that model because parts for the 700 are in short supply. Cute, they send me their bootom of the line model, mediocre-reviewed, with a smaller screen and fewer features because they can't fix the 700 that had no business failing in under a year.
   
   
   Np more Magellan trash for me. Garmin all the way.



4. At 70+ I no longer fear venturing to any road accessible no map address, particularly at night. This item (and I) have performed consistently as new at far below store prices. Bargain !



5. Have had the unit for awhile and it is still "ticking". Slow starting-very slow, but then it does a good job of getting you there and back. Has even given us some pretty neat "short cuts". Will drive you nuts with the "Make a U turn when legal" (or like verbage) if you deviate from its' planned route. What ever, we use it with confidence on every trip. Good pricing and delivery from Amazon.

1. One of the things I was really looking forward to as a new Palm owner was having maps on my Palm. I found Solus Pro 2.0 at a nearby store and picked it up, thinking it was just the thing. Well, I'm a bit disappointed, and here's why:

   First, reading a map on your Palm is a lot harder than reading a printed map, for some reason. Expect to be disoriented a lot.

   The maps on the CD work pretty well (I was using the San Francisco map). I could find places to go reasonably well. My biggest gripes are the speed (slooow), and the fact that street names don't always follow the street. For example, if I look up a street that runs the length of the city, and then zoom in on it, it's name is not necessarily displayed any longer. This was very frustrating when zoomed far in, as few if any of the streets I was looking for were labelled.

   ... I downloaded a map of the city I live in, and found it fairly useless. Zoomed out, it displays no streets. Zoomed in, many streets simply have no name. The size of the map is also very limited, and no location (businesses, restaurants, etc.) data is included.

   Overall, this is a decent product for the maps that are included on the CD. I'd hesitate to recommend it's use outside of those areas. And I'm still looking for that ultimate mapping software package...




2. before anyone orders solus pro program they need to read about it and see what delorme maps will work with it after it is install into your pda. all of their maps does not have zoom support

1. Awesome product.
   The ability to see individual topo sheets is very useful, as is the ability to create custom seamed maps.
   Dowloads of GPS waypoints to the computer, and the upload of GPS points fron the computer to the GPS unit is easy.
   Customer support is phenomenal! They resopond quickly and personally answer your questions and even take recommendations on what might be nice additions for future updates (such as a Baja map set, or the addition of other datums besides NAD27)

   I can't say enough about this product! The best mapping software out there




2. This version is VERY OLD! The maps are from 1985 and do NOT include trail data. Get the Trails Illustrated maps instead, you'll be MUCH better off!



3. Allows you to export tif images with GIS/CAD world files for easy upload into Programs such as Petra. Downside is that if you are looking at a large area, you have to continuously change out disks (there are 5 or 6 of them).



4. The maps were useful and plenty detailed, however not all of them were current or up to date. It served as a starting point, however, I still had to purchase more current versions of the areas I needed from BLM and USGS
