1. Compared to other bluetooth receivers I've used, this is the most usable unit with the longest lasting battery life.
   
   From the product description and the documentation found on the web this Sony bluetooth receiver sounds like a unit that only works with Sony devices, but that isn't the case. The receiver is actually a standard bluetooth GPS receiver that will work with any PC, PocketPC, or smartphone that support bluetooth and the serial port profile.
   
   The device has a built in battery and comes with a power adapter for charging that happens to be almost identical to the adapter for the Sony PSP. There are three lights on the unit; power, bluetooth, and GPS. These lights are enough to let you know when the adapter is on, when the batter is low (the power indicator changes color depending on battery status), when a bluetooth device has successfully connected to the receiver, and when the receiver has a fix on some satellites.
   
   The battery in this unit last longer than other bluetooth receivers that I've used. It's rated at 10 hours of operation in best conditions. And the unit comes with a secure yet easy to remove belt clip for securing the device if you need to walk while using it. The underside of the receiver is ruberized preventing the receiver from sliding around in the car when it is placed on the dashboard.



2. I'm no fan of Sony's products. I bought this with the expectation it would be a great looking paper wieght, like most of my other Sony products. I was stunned when the product actually worked! I tested it with two different Thinkpads with a Socket Compact Flash Bluetooth card, Linksys Bluetooth USB Adapter and my new BlackBerry Pearl 8100. It is far more useful than is described in the manual or sales literature. It is stunning to see my BlackBerry maps work seemlessly! I recommend this receiver for most Bluetooth applications. I gave it four stars because the manual leaves out a lot of useful hints that would get it working more quicly.



3. This GPS receiver works great with my Sony UX-380N. Easy set up. Great combination (UX Series micro PC and GPS receiver) when used in my vehicle (or rental) or walking about while traveling.



4. I bought this to replace the Garmin GPS 10 device that I had for a while and in the manual it disclosed that it' s mildly radioactive. I threw away that Garmin piece and I hope the Sony GPS isn' t.



5. Totally dissapointed with the GPS performance. Lacks power, very limited capacity to perform as a GPS and as a navigator. I wasted most of the battery capacity waiting to connect to a satellite signal. If you do not have the streets & Trips software it gets even worse. My opinion buy a GPS or a navigator from Magellan or Garmin there performance is outstanding.

1. This piece of software is what I have been hoping for for since I bought my machine. It is the most elegant and detailed mapping system that I have used. With the Garmin Vista Cx it works flawlessly. You can download any or all of the map data from the disks into the "Topo" file and it runs very well on my powerbook G4. It will upload all waypoints, and routes. It will download all waypoints, routes and tracks! The maps are gorgeous! The interactive web feature is cool but young. It has a geocaching feature. The 3d maps are sweet! It downloads updates and new map layers almost perfectly (had to manually download the software update). I only wish that waypoints symbols would transfer to and from my unit but I can easily live without them. Load the Mapsource maps to your device (Garmin "x" series saves to swappable memory microSD cards) and use Topo! from your laptop.



2. I've used TOPO! for eight years and it's the best there is for mapping software. I own software for 10 of the western states and use the program almost daily. I use the program in my laptop and when hooked up to my GPS, I have what amounts to a super detailed car navigation system with a 17" screen. As new maps become available, you can download them free into your computer as needed and it's a very easy procedure. Also, free upgrades are available on-line and that's an easy procedure too.
   
   To make the state series most useable, you need to add Back Roads Explorer, which gives much more detailed up-to-date street and street name information.
   
   The only caveates with this program is that you need a relatively fast computer and lots of memory so you can copy the whole program to your hard drive so you don't have to constantly change cd's. Also, expect to take some time to fully get to know this program.



3. I bought this software because I am a grad student and I had to survey alpine sites around the state of Colorado. I thought it would be great. It was not. The biggest problem is that the maps are out of date. For example several hiking trails are missing. I drove up at least ten roads that had locked gates that were not on the map. Many roads are not labeled or not labeled correctly. It was good for putting waypoints in my GPS, but that is all it was good for.



4. The PC version works ok but if you own a Mac, you are out of luck. Major glitches of very basic uses (such as unable to upload waypoints from a spreadsheet to your GPS!! Both upload and download buttons and pulldowns send you to a download only option). It is one of the few Mac apps that will lock down your computer and not respond to force quit.
   
   The interface is bizarre. Want to find a place? - go to "Edit". Want to find a coordinate? - go to "View". Want to find customer support? - go to the back of the room.

5. GPS Compatibility...
   
   As advertised, TOPO! works well with GPS units. I use it with a Garmin Vista Cx GPS frequently. Other people's negative reviews concerning GPS compatibility probably stem from their assumption that they should be able to download the maps themselves to a GPS device. No, you can't do that with just TOPO.
   
   As advertised, you CAN download waypoints or routes before a trip, which becomes extremely helpful when you feel lost. And you CAN upload waypoints and tracks after a trip, which is very interesting to map where you've been.
   
   General Comments on the Software...
   
   This is an excellent product which I always use before going exploring or mountain climbing. I discover new features in the software all the time. I don't think the program has ever crashed on me, and it is not hard to learn. 5 stars!!

1. This is a great GPS mount and is very useful if need to transfer GPS between different cars.



2. I have an Iway 500C GPS that I move between our two cars. Because the 500C is so heavy, that was not an easy task when I had to take the mount off the windshield and remount it (with the 500C on it so I could position it correctly). Then several times the mount broke loose and the 500C tumbled to the floor. This mount is much more convenient in that you can just plop it on the dash and reposition as desired. It is easy to pick up to move to another car. Unfortunately, on rough roads it does slide around the dash some, requiring occasional repositioning. Part of the problem may be that the mounting ball is directly in the center so the GPS itself is off center. I would prefer a bracket that was off center so the mounted GPS would be centered. Still, I much prefer it to the windshield mount. Of note is that the photo of this item does not show the 3-lobed base that it is attached to.
