5 comments about Garmin GDB 50 MSN Direct Replacement Receiver for Nuvi 680 and StreetPilot c580.
- I had this receiver for almost a month now with my NUVI 760. It somewhat helps me through traffic jams but not very useful many times. Here are my complaints:
1. The FM signal coverage is usualy poor in areas that are not heavily populated. I live in a less populated area. I have to do long commute to work everyday. By the time I get strong enough signal for the traffic update, I can not change my route already. So make sure both your work place and home are covered with GOOD signal strength otherwise you will get nothing either coming out of work or home.
2. The live traffic is usually 20-30 minutes delayed. Unless the traffic jam is a real bad one that will last for more than an hour, otherwise you may get a warning of traffic jam that is not there any more or you may run into traffic jam without any warning.
To be fair with MSN direct, that TMC traffic report is also delayed usually. While MSN direct also have weather report, movie time, and nearby gas prices, TMC traffic only has traffic report, not to mention that TMC traffic cost $60 per year and MSN direct only cost $50 per year to maintain.
So it is useful to some extent, but definitely need more improvement, although I dont know if that is possible!
- Works great. Easy to use, just plug in and then activate on your pc. A little on the expensive side though.
- This Garmin product is worth every penny. I use it daily to get traffic updates and avoid slow routes. After a short download, everything you will need on the road is available. I use it to find the local gas stations with the lowest prices. The weather feature is great- both for the current day and the extended forecast. There are too many other additional features to mention. The potential gas price savings alone makes this an invaluable Garmin accessory.
- Well, I've read many reviews on this cable and the TTN cable that came with my nuvi 760. I have coverage for both in my area and also in the mountainous areas we drive into. I have had good luck with both. Neither did alert me of the pending construction in the mountain town however.
I used this cable in NYC and as soon as I planned my route, it detected traffic on the route and asked if I wanted to avoid it. What I like best about this cable are all the extra features that it provides. Especially the weather. TTN has nothing but traffic.
I've used the stock reports and the gas price alerts. Each time the gas prices were accurate. This is very helpful everywhere you go.
- We got MSN Direct with our Garmin 750 and are very glad we did. The weekend we got our Garmin, the area we were in experienced gas shortages due to Hurricane Ike. When we needed gas at a reasonable price, we just used MSN to find a station close to us that could supply. The price wasn't 100% accurate, but when you consider the market was selling out of gas we did all right.
Movie times are accurate. It's great to shop for a movie before you hit the parking lot.
Weather was accurate as well. I think that feature will be very useful in the more volatile spring and winter weather.
Stocks, we don't use as much, but who knows? Again, in a volatile market having timely information is good.
Very much worth the price and one of the best accessories you can get for your Garmin.

5 comments about Garmin nüvi 250 3.5-Inch Portable GPS Navigator (Silver).
- This is the best instant map to find your way around big cities.
esp. when detours occure almost everday, and sometime the road turns out to be a one way street.
- First of all, I can't begin to explain on how amazing this little GPS is. I am not afraid to admit that I'm HORRIBLE with any sort of directions, but this Nuvi helps me out so much. Its so simple, easy to see, and the color pink adds some girlyness to it.
Cons: It takes a little while to acquire the satelites, especially when you first turn it on, and sometimes you need to switch between the Fastest Route and Shortest Distance because the directions are kinda weird.
But other than that, anyone who isn't looking to spend a fortune on a GPS, this is definetely the one for you.
- For a simple GPS system, it works well. It doesn't have Text-To-Speech, which means that it says "turn left in 300 feet" not "Turn left on Main Street in 300 feet". For me, that works fine as the less it talks the better. Selects good routes, is simple to set up and use and is easily updated from the web (which i would recommend doing right away as there were numerous updates available, including GPS firmware updates). If you want alot of bells and whistles, you will be disappointed. If you want a simple, trustworthy GPS device for a low cost, this is for you.
- I purchased the GPS as a last minute birthday gift for my daughter who was leaving for college for the first time....500 miles away. Not being familiar with the area, I thought a GPS would be a perfect gift as well as giving me peace of mind knowing she will never get lost. The over night shipping was essential as we were leaving the next day. I was able to track the package and was relieved when it arrived in time. She was so excited when she opened it and we were able to take it straight from the box to mounted in her car. Thanks Amazon.com!
- We have used our Garmin quite often and had never failed us in finding our destination. It is easy to put in address.

5 comments about GARMIN 010-10457-00 Auto Mounting Bracket Suction Cup.
- You have to position it so that the bottom will rest lightly on your dashboard, otherwise the unit jiggles too much while the vehicle is in motion. But that's a very small issue. The grip on the windshield is excellent and I like the way the bracket piece swivels so that I can get the GPSr on and off easily.
- Im not disappointed in buying this item, however it does have its flaws. Just as any suction cup holding unit would do, it looses suction and comes undone. All and all, its worth its weight in gold.
- I enjoy this item, but it should have a slider slot that you can make it longer or shorter. Some car windows are sloped different then others. It just fits, but the antenna is right against the windshield, its not a bad thing it holds it in place but its hard to read the screen sometimes.
- The item was received in good condition. It does work as reviewed by others here. It adheres very well to the windshield. I agree with the reviewer who wished it had sideways rotation. That could be a benefit when using only reflected light with the GPSMAP 60CSx.
I would like to see the technical specs include the construction material for these products as RAM MOUNT does for theirs. That would help in the decision making process.
- This bracket works great in both of our cars. The GPS comes off of it easily, and you can position it on the windshield where ever you want it to go.

5 comments about Garmin GPS Carrying Case, Black.
- If you want to keep all the parts together and available at a moments notice, this case will do the job. Small enough to take with you and large enough to locate easily, this part-specific case will store your GPS and all accessories until you need them. Other cases/containers will do the same but this one has a little flair to it. Another Garmin must have.
- I have the forerunner 405, heart rate monitor, and foot pod. I was hoping the case would be large enough to carry these along with my charger. They all fit, but it is very cramped. The case isn't quite long enough for the heart rate monitor, so it needs to be folded a bit to fit it in. On the positive side, the case is very solid and well made.
- Great carrying case. Perfect for holding the Forerunner, charger, and USB cable. I just had to replace my Forerunner because I came home one day and found it in a thousand pieces on the floor. This time I purchased the case to go with it and the case seems to be perfect for puppy protection. High quality and very durable.
- Definitely keeps it in one place. I carry one small bag to the gym and it's easy to grab it all without hunting around for all the pieces.
- The Garmen GPS carrying case has worked very well for me. I use my watch when I run, which is 3-5 days p/week. I also run with an I-pod nano. The Garmen case carries both (as well as a cell phone and blue-tooth device) with the two halves of the case divided into mesh sections which keeps the items separated and helps them not to bump into each other which sometimes causes the I-pod or the Garmen GPS watch to inadvertantly switch on, wasting valuable battery life.
The vents on the top help the Garmen GPS device to dry quickly after a long run in the sun. The case looks good and is strong yet light weight.
It was a worthwhile purchase for me.

5 comments about Garmin Deluxe Carrying Case for StreetPilot and GPSMap 176 (010-10231-01) systems.
- I love my Garmin Nuvi 760 and I travel often so I wanted a bag to hold the Garmin Nuvi, the friction mount (bean bag like mount), the wires and the suction mount. This bag could not even store the Nuvi without issue and the wires wouldn't fit either. Why Garmin does not offer a bundle package of carrying bag and case is beyond me. If you have a small unit, this bag may be ok for you to store your GPS only. If you have a 4.3 inch screen GPS and want to pack your wires and accessories up too, don't waste your money on this tiny bag!
- Good product. Its size tucks easily in to other bags, under the seat, and is easy to carry with me as needed. It could be slightly larger to accommodate the windshield mount in addition to the dashboard mount. A separate pocket inside to carry the instruction manual would be helpful. I would buy again.
- This is a so-so product (does not match current photo). SMALL and not much room for the price. This should be $10 -$15 and no more; you'd be better off with an alternate item!!!
- Good case for you Garmin GPS. Well built and has pockets for accessories. Not a LARGE case, so be forewarned.
- The bag is too small - GPS hardly fits there and any mount and anything else will not fit

5 comments about GARMIN 010-10563-00 12V Adapter Cable.
- I used this item for the first time this last weekend. It was nice feeling that I was not using the batteries up before even getting to our activity center. No need to carry a bunch of batteries along. Good to go.
- Works fine with my Vista HCx, just way overpriced!
But, it allows the use of the GPS in the car without using your batteries, and is great for turning up the brightness, as others have noted.
Garmin really does need to think some things through however. Both their AC and DC adapters are just that, adapters. The Vista HCx GPS I use accepts rechargeable batteries, but neither of their adapters are designed to charge batteries, but only to supply voltage to operate?! Kind of short-sighted on their part.
Good product, but I'm deducting points for price, and being unable to function as a charger.
- The trouble with Garmin it charges way to much for all of its add ons. If you were buying this for a cheap radio you could buy it in the dollar store, but because of the interface you have to buy from them.
- Purchased to save batteries while travelling. LED is a plus letting you know that the unit is working.
- Works as advertised on my 60Cx, I was wondering after reading a review that it didn't, it does. Using on a motorcycle so I wouldn't go for the USB power because it seems like it will create a weatherproof seal whereas the USB won't. It's a must have for me. 4 stars because of the price, yes it's steep.

5 comments about Garmin A/C Charger for StreetPilot C Series.
- I have never used the USB cord since I first set up my Garmin C340, so this is perfect to put a charge on my Streetpilot whether at home before heading out or when traveling. The price is great! Add it to the Garmin carrying case to get the free shipping. Awesome combo.
- i have the garmin streetpilot c320. i've had it for almost 3 years now. but the other day i left the stand on the windsheild, in over 90 degree heat. so it was even hotter in my car.
the ac adapter in my car was still plugged in to the stand, and when i pulled it out, the charger part of the stand broke off when i pulled it.
i love my gps, i dont know what i'd do with out it, so i had to get a replacement.
i decided to get this, so i dont have to mess with cords in my car. i can just bring the gps into the house when the battery is low. its really nice not have to wrap the stiff ac cord up when i put my gps away when not using it.
- I don't know why you would need this. We ordered it and only used it one time. After figuring out how to use our Garmin we discovered that our model does not hold a charge, thus we cannot carry it around and use it. To use it as a GPS, it has to be in a car and plugged into the outlet there. You wouldn't really have a need to have your GPS plugged in at your home, because it isn't moving and cannot function.
- 010-10618-00 for StreetPilot c310 c320 c330 c340.
010-10747-04 for StreetPilot c510 c530 c550 c580.
010-10723-00 for StreetPilot i2/3/5 and all Nuvi.
GPS may charge via USB. It's slower, but save $! :-Deal
- I misplaced my original charger for my Garmin GPS and could not find a charger anywhere else but Amazon.

5 comments about GARMIN 010-00256-00 Etrex Legend GPS Receiver.
- I bought this to take hunting and hiking. The downside is the time it took to learn all the features I wanted to use. This is not a car level gps but isn't intended to be. Others are correct that under trees, if not holding it level, you'll lose signal, but it was quick to pick it back up. Gets me to with in 10 feet of the points I marked. I'll get a lot of use out of it.
- I bought this used here on Amazon back in Oct 2003 and has worked without problems.
This GPS I use for Geocaching and it works great. I added the MetroGuide Map, I believe, and get nice street level detail unfortunately the 8 Megs of RAM is not enough to hold all of the LA area but it does hold quite a bit.
This is NOT a GPS that you really want to use for driving. There are many other GPS that have Turn-by-Turn, Color diplays, Touchscreen, ect... But it does very well for hiking, walking and bike riding, ect...
- I wanted a GPS to note down the lats and longs to the places I visit (places of birding importance). I am in India and the default US maps are of no use to me. I am not bothered about it. The Garmin serves its purpose in recording lats, longs and elevation. It has additional features such as speedometer, odometer, etc, which is not my need. It shows your position with the best accuracy of 11 metres radius (as far as I have tried so far).
I knew that this particular Garmin model does not accept Google Earth Pro. However, I thought there should be other means of uploading maps to it. This is something I am yet to explore. But, the major draw back is the computer connectivity. It comes with a serial port, which my laptop does not accept. I have to now find out some adapter for this.
Other interesting features of the GPS are marking waypoints, tracking your route, and panning the map after you record your track/waypoints. The instrument has a joystick which you can use to pan, or jump menus in the "Main Menu" window. It's been just three weeks I got this GPS, and the joystick has stopped working in one direction. I can not pan the map down. I haven't used it roughly, the poor mechanical thing appears to be too sensitive.
Overall, it serves my purpose of getting the co-ordinates and elevation. If you want something more, like compatibility with Google Earth Pro, good computer connectivity, etc, then this is not the model. You may be interested in Garmin eTrex Legend CX or Vista.
- It's not about the GPS, or that it only holds 8MB's of memory (not a stick upgradable option but built in#, or it only locks onto a satellite if U R standing still in the middle of a foot-ball field, BUT most computers today come with ONE #9 female pin# serial-port plug/outlet for PC to a major/vital peripheral hook-up or 4 get your printer/scanner or fax and use it for your GPS hook up and buy their map disks at $100+ ea. But don't buy them ALL or your memory would have to be in the GB's range! If U have a PC with any peripherals like a printer that ONLY port is USED so no luck d/l-ing Garmin © software. Most newer PC's come with several USB 2.0 ports, or a cheap hub turns 1 USB outlet into many outlets/inputs, so why is Garmin selling a GPS kit for around $130 with the ONLY way to get Jack from your PC is thru a SP connector? If U want a USB that works to d/l maps think around paying $60 more for this: 'USB to RS232 converter cable' which it should have come with for the price but didn't. So I have a cute hand held GPS that only shows me MAJOR roads has a menu that takes days to figure-out and set-up, then lacks memory, has no way to up that memory with a 1GB card and flogs an ancient SP hook-up with NO CD map disk #teasers# to Joe Public. Clearance time or PP planning? My buddy saw my frustraion and asked me why I had bought a Garbage GPS, he is a pilot!
Spokane, WA.
- I bought this unit for Geocaching. I have grown tired and frustrated of losing satellite signal under any sort of tree cover. We are finally decided to sell it for a better unit.

5 comments about Garmin nüvi 205 3.5-Inch Portable GPS Navigator.
- Garmin nuvi 205 3.5 " GPS
What a great tool and great value! This is a great basic system that met all of our needs. If all you are looking for is a GPS to keep your eyes on the road and out of a map while keeping the cost low...this is your baby.
-
The Garmin nüvi 205 3.5-Inch Portable GPS Navigator is one of several updated models in the 200 series. It's funny to admit this, but using some of the higher end versions has actually made me like this model more. Sure, this doesn't have the 4.3 inch widescreen of the 600 series, or the W models like the Garmin nuvi 205W and Garmin Nuvi 255W. And it doesn't give you Bluetooth like the 600 series and others. But what it does give you is a GPS unit that covers the basics very well, is very affordable, and has been updated with a LOT more features than entry level models from the competition. So if you need a starter GPS, this is probably the daddy of them all right now.
Pros:
+ Great performing unit for a starter GPS unit
+ Comes with all the things you need, GPS, window mount and car power adapter
+ Updated Garmin features including HotFix to speed up satellite acquisition
+ Included compatibility with MSND traffic service (though not great in all areas)
+ Improved pedestrian mode
+ Improved interface with slick look and feel
+ Cool extras like photo navigation and cool web features
+ Nice pricing
Cons:
- Still some software issues to be worked out with updates
- 3D view still needs some work
- Not the least expensive starter unit on the market
- Garmin still overcharges for map updates
- Traffic services not great in all areas
Pros
The updated interface is very nice, though many of the changes are subtle in terms of functionality. The look and feel are definitely slicker, but there are also extra directional markers. In order to really access all the extra info, you have to change your settings to display "most detail." Either way, those who've used the 200 will definitely notice the improvements.
The main complaint that all GPS units have to overcome is the dreaded delay in finding satellites. All models and all brands have this issue to one degree or another. Now with the Hotfix, the 205 and other updated models do find satellites a little faster than before. You will still have issues locating satellites indoors, but under standard use outdoors you will see it find satellites faster.
The other feature that is aided by the update is pedestrian mode. This feature is not used too often. In fact, it's somewhat hard to find in the menu settings. But the problem that was often encountered with the older generation of products was that in cities like NY with tall skyscrapers, it was very hard to find and hold a signal long enough to use pedestrian mode. Now, it can still take a while but is noticeably faster and more reliable.
Some of the newer Garmin features like photo navigation and send custom location info to your GPS unit are really slick. You can go to the Garmin website to access these things and more. Still, those are all true extras. You don't need those things to enjoy the main function of this guy, which is to give you directions via GPS navigation.
You will also need to consider accessories such as the Garmin Portable Friction Dashboard Mount for Nüvi Series. The included window mounting suction cup may not be enough for your needs.
Cons
There are some things you should know about the MSN Traffic Service. For some people, this is going to be a great service. For others, not so much. Garmin should be given extra points for integrating the functionality. This service has been offered with other models for a while I'm very familiar with it. The shortcomings are not totally the fault of Garmin. The bottom line is that the MSN traffic data may be stale depending on where you live. You need current data to reroute around rush hour jams or accidents. It's not ready for prime-time everywhere yet. And when the service improves, believe me I plan to use it full time.
The 3D terrain maps are the result of people clamoring for altitude data. Well, the data is now there, though it seems somewhat limited. These 3D maps are not very useful and it is difficult to display the information without zooming out to distances that are not ideal.
Certainly, Garmin isn't the low cost provider when it comes starter units, updated maps and POIs. But those cons are all minor. Overall, this is a nice improvement and a great starter unit.
Conclusion
If you are looking for an upgrade for your Garmin nüvi 200 3.5-Inch Portable GPS Navigator, you are probably going to want to step up to the Garmin nüvi 660 4.3-Inch Portable GPS Navigator or better. If you need a starter unit for yourself or as a gift, the 205 definitely needs to be on your list of models to consider.
Enjoy.
- I decided that I wanted a GPS for my car. Mainly because I had seen a friend use her TomTom to find a place to eat. That was something I didn't know they did.
Usually I am a major researcher. I research everything from cars to coffee pots before they are purchased. (let not even talk about the length of time it took to purchase a house and looking at upwards of 5+ a day!)
But my husband and I went to Best Buy to get a new TV. I let him do his thing and traveled the store playing with the newest gadgets when I came up to the GPS counter. I started playing with them seeing which would do what. So fun! When a sales man came over I ask to borrow his computer to get on the company website and read reviews, he laughed but allowed it. All 3 units I was looking had had a 4.0 rating or higher. So back to the devices I went.
My husband came over as he hadn't seen me in an hour, I told him I was going to get one of them but wasn't sure which. So he started messing with them also. We finally came to the agreement on the Garmin nuvi 205 only because he said he wanted one for his truck also and since they had different colors He wanted black and I got red.
After placing them in our vehicles, learning them was a snap. There are directions but I found I didn't even need them. Setting up took no time at all for it to connect and locate me.
I am going to get my boss one for Christmas as he goes places all the time and carries map books. He also knows nothing beyond checking email on a computer but I am sure that he will have no problem with this little gem!
- I had to give the Nuvi 205 a 5-star rating because it's better than the Nuvi 200, which has an average of 4.5 stars at Amazon. All in all, I'm glad I got the 205 vs. the 200. Not in any order are the following improvements I appreciated most:
The faster screen refresh is noticeable. There's a YouTube video where the 205 is compared with the 200. You can see a huge difference.
The redesigned display is more intuitive with arrows vs. "left"/"right". Personally, I think the screen design looks better, too.
The ability to import addresses on the computer from Google map is very nice since entering the address via the touchscreen is a bit cumbersome.
BTW, the documentation is very, very light. There was no mention of how to use the map importation feature so I appreciated the Amazon product page including the link to download the plug-in. Also, I didn't know I could download more vehicles till I dug around the Garmin website.
About text-to-speech, which this unit does NOT have, I don't think I'm going to miss it. Usually I have the radio or iPod blaring, and my car is pretty noisy anyway, so it would be hard to hear the street names called out. In fact, I keep the volume down and rely on the very intuitive display. You clearly see the upcoming street name to turn on and even if there are a bunch of streets bunched up together, the main map would show them all and it would be easy to differentiate the one you want.
- My family and I visited New Orleans for the first time. We had just bought the GPS and are ecstatic. Don't know how we could ever have vacationed without it. We have bought 3 more for our extended family.
