- I have a discontinued Garmin GPS and I needed the maps program. I did my research before ordering this and it worked perfectly. It was shipped fast and arrived in mint condition. I enjoyed this transaction.

2 comments about DeLorme Earthmate Street Atlas USA 2008 + Holux M1000 32 Channel MTK Bluetooth GPS Receiver (M-1000)(32CH, WAAS)(Free Vent Mount).
- I purchased this product to use with my Samsung I730 phone. It has the Windows Mobile 5.2 operating system. The Holux M1000 works very well. It was fairly ease to use with my phone and with a lap top via bluetooth. The DeLorme software was disappointing though. Downloading the routes to the phone isn't easy. The map and route information is limited by the size of your phone's internal memory. DeLorme has a work around for manually loading map data on to the Storeage card but not routes. Routes must be small enough to fit on the internal memory. On my I730 that means we are limited to very short trips or must be creative in the way that you handle routes (i.e. just loading the portion of your trip near its destination and turning the tracking on when we get close) The software also has a habit of crashing the phone requiring a reboot. IMHO it is not quite ready for "prime time" on a Windows Mobile device.
We decided to use the DeLorme package with a laptop to avoid the hassle. Seems to work fine with the laptop. However, since I purchased this package to use with my I730, I have to say that I am disappointed. DeLorme tech support has told me that there are no plans to update the Pocket PC software to enable transferring routes in such a way that they can be saved to the Storeage card. If they do, I will probably be satisfied.
- This is an excellent bundle at a great price. I've used the Holux GPS with a Bluetooth USB dongle and kismet on my linux laptop adding the free GoogleEarth download so I was able to "WAR drive" for Wi-Fi hot spots and see the results on a 3D map. I've also set up Streets 2008 on my XP Pro laptop with built-in Bluetooth, which also worked perfectly.
Compared to the several to many hundred dollars one has to pay for a Garmin or Tom Tom - this is tremendous bang for the buck!

1 comments about GlobalTop G66 Touch Bluetooth GPS (51ch, WAAS, 5hz Update Rate, Auto Off) (Free Universal PDA/Smartphone Mount).
- The G66 obtains fixes quite quickly, locks onto a lot of satellites, and sends coordinate information an amazing 5 times per second to GeoNiche or other GPS software.
It's incredibly small, measuring about a half inch shorter and a quarter inch narrower than a standard business card. The whole thing is only a quarter inch thick, which is about half the thickness of a Palm Tungsten TX. It's quite easy to tuck it away somewhere, such as a shirt pocket, or the bill of a baseball cap.
The G66 has no moving parts or obvious LEDs to interfere with its high tech black and white stylish exterior. The standard three indicators (power, GPS, and Bluetooth) can be seen only when the unit is on. They appear about halfway between the button-sensor and the logo at the top (see picture from the link above).
It charges through a standard mini-USB plug connected to any USB port on your computer. A car charger (which can also charge other devices that charges through a standard mini-USB plug) is included. Even though it does not come with a wall charger, these are readily available.
There is a recessed pin-activated reset button (that I hope I will never have to use) and an anchor point for a lanyard. The unit is so tiny and light that I hardly notice it when worn around my neck.
It doesn't appear to have a changeable battery. But I haven't had to replace the batteries in my other Bluetooth GPS receivers and I am hopeful that this one won't need changing by the time I move on to something else.
The manual is full of amusing bad English (it is the most thinnest!) but it's not so bad that the meaning is lost.
The G66 comes bundled with some software that I cannot use. But, I use it with GeoNiche and it should work with most any other GPS software. I hope bundled software didn't increase the retail price I paid.
They claim a battery life of "up to" 20 hours of continuous use per charge. It will be a while before I can measure this for myself.
