   Very practical accessory for use in the outdoors. Batteries do not last more than 24 hours, less if user is inexperienced and needs more time to operate GPS unit.

1. I am an avid hunter,before buyýng my gps a did an extencýve search for the best suited one for my needs.there is no question
   that the eTrex Summit has all I ask.the electronic compass is the
   most important future.When I hunt I always go deep in the forest.
   I used to have some terrible lost instances,I tell you getting lost in deep forest is no joke at all.now with my summit in my pocket I am the kýng of forests.the poiter page future is also extra advantage the summit has.Any hunter or camper should own one for hýs or her securýtýy.

I've checked this GPS out in the toughest test and I guess you get what you pay for, this model can display the profile for up to 25 miles on the screen , but when you download the data the profile is very hard to re create on the PC, I've tried using several kinds of download software and then Harvard Graphics or excel , with the same result, a horizontal scale problem.

   Every check I have made on its accuracy shows no problem , just this end of the line processing, perhaps I'm the only user trying to print off the profile




3. This GPS is a great help for any kind of GPS work you would need to do that didn't require you to be any closer than about 20 feet. Within 20 feet is is inprecise.

   I've found that the altimeter needs regular calibration to be accurate as well.

   Too bad it doesn't come standard with an A/C adapter. You'd think with all the money you're paying the least you would get is an A/C adapter!




4. I use it when I go sking, so I see how fast I can go, I use it for biking, so I can tell how far I have gone. I can be in the middle of my two story house and still get a signal (It takes about 10 minutes though) Outside it will pick up a signal in under 30secconds. Its Great!

5. Just keep in mind that if you buy this product, you will not have the capability to load any Mapsource data, or any map data at all. The unit does not come with even a rudimentary database, and although there is an optional (and riduculously overpriced) PC interface cable, you won't be able to upload anyting into the GPS unit. No street maps, no topo maps,... nada. Other comparably priced units have this capability, which seems to me to be absolutely essential if you actually want to use a GPS unit to be able to navigate, which, let's face it, is the only reason that you would buy one.

1. I have an older streetpilot colormap. In order to be compatable with this card you have to make sure that you have updated firmware (just download it from Garmin), and a current copy of mapsource. Upgrades are available on Garmin's web site(mine was way old).
   It turns out that you can load more than 8 metroguide maps. You can have as many maps as space allows. Since they aren't all 8MB this is a real plus. My unit limits you to 50 maps, but you can get a lot of Roads and Recreation maps in since they vary from 64k to 400K. Garmin has very good phone support.

   I am having issues with my card though. Depending on where I am in the map set the unit will hang and sometimes shut off while navigating a route. I might just have a defective card. I will find out how Amazon handles these issues soon.

   Oh yes downloading nearly 64MB takes nearly four hours. The USB interface is looking very attractive (even if it is expensive).




2. I have had two problems with this card that may or may not affect others. I had an old version of Mapsource that did not recognize the 64MB cards. A call to customer service pointed me to a free update. I had difficulty with the card in my unit. The unit was acting very flaky. A call to Garmin customer service resulted in getting a in Warranty repair for an old unit. Some specific older units (the StreetPilot Colormap) do not properly handle cards with greater than 16MB capacities.

   Why didn't I rate 5 stars? It take 4 hours to load the card over a serial link. The USB programmer is a bit pricy but would really make life much easier. I think for my needs I can get by without it. If you need program the card often you will want it for sure.

1. As recommended by friends, the garmin is one of the nicer gps' on the market. It's easy to use and accurate. However, if you plan to use the asian languages for speech be aware that text to speech for announcing the street names in English or the asian language is not supported, "only directions!" Contacted tech support and the claim is that there is no advertised statement that says this feature is supported when asian languages are used for speech. So if you select American English -Jill {TTS} it works great, just no other language. You can make a request to have them implement this which would make this product AWESOME! So please do so!

1. The unit arrived in good order. Am still working on the operating manual. This GPS has many options to set up and different ways to connect to a vehicle. It will take some time to take advantage of all it has to offer.



2. Loaded with lots of information. Would be easier to use if touch screen. Marine lake detail did not include my favorite lake which is the second largest in its State (44,000 acres). Bummed since I could not find a list of the covered Lakes at the Garmin site.
