5 comments about Garmin nüvi 370 3.5-Inch Bluetooth Portable GPS Navigator with Text-To-Speech, North American and European Maps.
- bought for wife, she simply cannot navigate or follow directions. she loves this unit, and so do I.
- I bought this thing over a year ago, it is my only GPS to date, and works smooth (and better than some models friends have).
The nice thing is you can take this to-go, and plug it into a friends car. Or bring it with you on a place and put it in the rental car. I went to Brazil, and aside from having to get the Brazil maps loaded on in advance, worked very nicely, with Points Of Interest there too.
The fact that they made the traffic antenna a seperate thing is a bit ugly, hopefully that part is integrated into the devices soon (if not in the newer models allready).
- This is in addition to my Garmin 350. Received in excellent condition. Everything I have ordered from Amazon has been very good both in service and delivery.
- I bought this rather than rent one with the car when I was traveling to Scotland (the price was barely more than it would have cost to rent it for eight days from the rental car company) and just got back from my trip. It worked perfectly - helping me navigate my way on the wrong side of the road. We found our way through big cities and also crossing across the country.
I've used it for about a month at home, too, and it is useful, not just for the ability to map out directions - but also for finding parking and fuel.
It was simple to use when I switched countries - picking up Scotland automatically. No complaints so far.
- This Garmin has many great features and if you register it in the first 60 days you can get the most current Euro and N. America maps for free. Easy to use and very functional. The battery life has not felt like 8 hours, but maybe 6. The Garmin 370 doesn't show when the unit is fully charged, which I understand this was a known problem. Bluetooth works very 'echo'ey but if you ran an fm modulater or headphone jack to a car stereo you could do a better job of hands free calling by way of the car speakers. My Lg vx8550 chocolate phone through verizon did not function with transferring the phonebook to the Gps via Bluetooth; so I don't know who is calling on the 370.

5 comments about Garmin GPSMap 60CSx Handheld GPS Navigator.
- The Garmin 60Csx unit performs very well. Its reception of satellite signal is outstanding. It even tracks inside buildings. The case package and belt clip is durable. The display is bright and clear both in bright light and darkness with its back light. The user interface menu is a little awkward but navigate able once accustom to. I purchased this unit with Garmin MapSource U.S. Eastern Parks Topographical. I am very happy with this hiking GPS.
- I originally had a old Magellan Explorist 500 that I used for geocaching and hiking. Unfortunately it just became a little to outdated and I wanted to upgrade to something with the new SirfIII chip. I first purchase a Magellan Triton 400. That was a bad move. Although it was a nice unit the functionality was just not there and the unit lacks a lot of features. I then purchased the 60CSx from Amazon and have been incredibly pleased with the unit. The unit has quick satellite acquisition, good battery life, great accuracy and a very impressive feature set. On top of that the unit is versatile and works well for trail hiking, geocaching and driving so long as you have the required maps. The unit has a very rugged design and has taken quite a few falls and still works great. Negatives are all minor - purchase a screen protector, electronic compass needs constant recalibration and geocaches can't be loaded directly onto the unit via GPX files. All in all a great unit and top of the line if you are going to be geocaching. If you don't want to spend the big bucks on one of the underdeveloped touchscreen models this the tried and true GPS of choice.
-
As everyone else here has said, the unit is great.
I just wanted to highlight that it uses
A) standard AA (or NiMH) batteries
B) MicroSD memory
(mine came with a 128 MB card, but for $8 I bought a 2GB)
C) MicroUSB cable
Pretty much anything you will ever need to replace is available everywhere for cheap. It's as if the heavens above smiled on Garmin and the perfect GPS was born.
I even like the turn by turn better than my TomTom.
- This was revolutionary 3-4 years ago, but with new handheld devices like the iPhone, etc showing how a handheld interface should work, this begins to feel ancient.
+ Great reception
+ Rugged (get a screen protector)
+ Reliable
- Hard to remove memory card, which makes the next negative even worse.
- For the US Topo Mapsource CD set, you can only can transfer 2026 of the 7000 US map segments per memory card. This means you cannot simply load the entire US (7000 segments) on a memory card. You need 3 512MB memory cards.
- The Mapsource data is OLD. The 2003 Mapsource Topo CD set is missing streets that are 20 years old in southern St Louis. The new 2008 Mapsource DVD is missing streets that are 15 years old. Google/Yahoo/MapQuest find these streets easily. Don't surprised if the forest you are hiking thru leads to an undocumented MegaMall.
- Poor UI for driving directions, etc. This is a hiking boating device, DO NOT buy for exclusive use with your car.
- Searching for POI is very difficult.
- Map Management is TERRIBLE. If you have multiple maps, good luck figuring out how to change the map in use. An example, if you install City Navigator, your topo will disappear bc the City Navigator covers the topo maps. You have to turn off City Navigator, but it's buried deep in the menu system.
- Worst designed bike attachment mechanism ever. It is too small for almost all handlebars. :(
Overall, I love it for hiking, find it occasionally useful for biking (prevening me from getting lost), and dislike it for car use, city exploration. Google Maps on an iPhone or Windows Mobile is much better.
- This is the my third handheld gps unit and without a doubt it's the best I have used or seen on the market to date. I primarily use it for recording fishing spots and water-related waypoints. I also use it to download my many other personal POI files. I'm extremely pleased with the unit's overall performance and would highly recommend it to anyone. On the con side, to fully take advantage of the unit's extended features you must purchase additional expensive mapping software. It's fast when acquiring-refreshing, accurate and reliable and integrates nicely with related Garmin Mapsource products.

5 comments about Garmin StreetPilot c580 3.5-Inch Portable GPS Navigator with MSN Direct.
- I've owned a c530 and was exceptionally please with the way it performed
so I upgraded to the c580. This unit is just as accurate but it does have
2 quirks that bother me. It takes a little more time to pick up the
satellites than the 530 model, and the text to speech voice seems fuzzy.
- Using these units for our fleet of trucks. Works well and easy to set up.
- Garmin StreetPilot c580 3.5-Inch Portable GPS Navigator with MSN Direct
I've bought many gps's and this is the best so far not too many needless bells and whistles Just it gets signal almost indoors and speaks well bluetooth is great It is the best in it's price range. Just buy it!
- I ordered this before driving halfway across the country. This is a fantastic deal, I had my reservations buying it because it is a slightly older model & I prefer the look & size of the NUVI product line. Putting that aside, this model has all of the features I wanted (and a couple more) for an absolute bargain price. I love the gas price feature of MSN Direct, I was able to avoid the just-off-of-the-freeway high priced gas stations and find the best deals on fuel.
The POI is very good, and the text to speech works better than many other GPS units I have used. Overall, I am very happy with the purchase & would recommend it to anyone looking for real value.
The c580 did send me on a couple of wild-goose chases, I am not sure if the unit was at fault or the map program. One example was that it kept telling us to exit and enter the same freeway for several miles. Another example is that it took us on some tangents through residential streets when there was a straight road that it should have directed us to.
I have noticed that the MSN Direct when used where I live, the movie times it shows are for theaters 40+ miles away. Since I live in a metropolitan area of Los Angeles, this service seems lacking.
The touch screen on this unit works very well comapred to other units I have used, it is very easy to use and is very accurate.
Aside from some rare occasional glitches, I am still very happy with this unit and would buy it again & recommend it to anyone.
- This is everything I expected it to be! Even though it is a discontinued model, Garmin updated the map database and the O/S. It was a great deal, and that, combined with a great company made it a great Amazon.com purchase.
UPDATE DECEMBER 1, 2008
The unit crapped out last Saturday. No screen, nothing. And my return period ended 12 days ago! Now I am stuck with a worthless paperweight!
Buyer beware!!

- This thing is amazing! It met all my expectations and then some. I won't leave home without it! I purchased the extra kit with the wall charger as well... it all works great! Go Garmin!
- This GPS is the best purchase I did ever. It helped me a lot on my firts trip to Miami. Driving and moving was a piece of cake.
The dealer was excelent, the product was delivered faster than I was told. Their Customer service is fast and clear when you ask a questoin.
I strongly recomend this dealer.
- I bought this for my service truck. Talk about taking the stress out of finding things. I personally don't use the voice feature at all since the radio is normally on. I picked this unit because it has a banner across the top with the name of the next street to turn on. I strongly recommend a rubber case for around the unit. I bought a tough skin for it. The suction cup works really well but occasionally it will come off (Florida Sun). I've used it on trips to find food and gas stations. It recalculates quickly when i decide to go my own way. Sometimes it takes a few minutes to pick up satellites initially, usually when I'm trying to pre-program a location at the house. I've never had it take more then a couple of minutes while in the Truck. After it finds the satellites i never have an issue. I find that the footages to next turn are a little off when it gets to the lower numbers. I've found using common sense works a little better then going buy strict footage which seems to be at the middle of the intersection or beyond. Fortunately the name of the street is in the banner. I brought this on our last trip to visit our son at in NC. Driving from the airport was a breeze since i had the address of the hotel already programed in. I love the touch screen and the way you can scroll around a map.
- my wife has one and its great. simple and easy to use. perfect size. not big or small. so i recommended my friend to get one for his wife as a gift. i placed the order for him. i received the package early from the shipper. no complaints. good deal with the 2 added accessories from the shipper.
- I purchased the Garmin NUVI 200 for about $125.
This is a great GPS for the money. Does what it is supposed to do and does it very well. Not sure what bells and whistles this unit doesn't have but gives me great directions.
I would recommend GARMIN over all others based on my experience.

5 comments about Garmin nüvi 770 GPS Navigator and Personal Travel Assistant.
- I would highly recommend this product. My father is the pickiest driver I know. There are two things he absolutely hates: being lost (he won't admit it!) and traffic. So when I saw this awesome GPS for an amazing price I knew what I had to get him. Not only does it announce the directions out loud, you can also have them tuned into your FM radio; meaning you won't ever miss a turn! In addition it came with traffic support, which redirects you right around the traffic, which is genius!
Aside from it's great features, I also set it up for my dad. Set up took about 30 seconds, the satellite found the location straight away. When we purposely passed the exit the nuvi wanted us to take, it took all of 15 seconds to reroute us to the correct exit. Very intuitive and very easy to use. Wish it came with a case and an A/C power cord but this is so minor comparatively. I would highly recommend the Garmin Nuvi 770 and will be looking to get garmin products once I have a car.
- a better line of the Garmin GPS, well thought out, easy to use. screen is nice with lot of features. Good battery life. A bit off in terms of finding address especially in Metro NY area. It was not the satellite but can't even find a street address, fine tune is needed manually.
- I purchased the nuvi 770 as an upgrade from tomtom. The nuvi never i mean never wanted to direct me using the fastest route which all the time included highway. I email and call garmin international with no success at all. Garmin international never got me around the problem. I ended up returning the product and upgraded to another tomtom 930T. The garmin has excellent display and many useful features. It just didn't work for me. It just didn't work for me.
- Garmin, as usual, is tops in GPS market. The 770 does everything as advertised. I use GPS in the car, on the trail, and in the air as a pilot. Hands down, Garmin's are the best. I switched to the nuvi after retiring a streetpilot and my only complaints apply to all of the Nuvi's, not only the 770, and essentially: I miss the remote when driving, the streetpilot had more shortcuts, but also had 4 buttons/softkeys on the face. I think the gps market is just geared toward new users with less experience. All in all, read features carefully and choose NUVI that has the ones you want for the price you want. YOU CANT GO WRONG!!!!!!
- After I started using my Nuvi 770 I kept noticing that I was about 200 feet ahead of where the unit thought I was. It can be confusing when places to turn are close to each other or when on the freeway. I checked for product updates at [...] and found mine was up to date.
So I emailed garmin customer services about this and this is a direct quote from them. "Thank you for contacting Garmin International. We are aware of a software issue on the Nuvi 700 series, that is causing this to happen and our engineers are working on a fix. Hope this helps"
It would help if they provided a target date for the fix!
Other than this the unit works well including the FM transmitter and the bluetooth. I just had more faith in Garmin before I received this response.

- I love this product. It give me streets names and exact times for arrival. Very very nice!!
- I was so impressed with it that I bought one for my sisters birthday. She loves it too.
- I find this product to be incredibly easy to use. Unlike my old tom-tom it has excellent satellite reception and takes me to my destinations accurately. I especially like the feature that tells the user which side of the street the destination will be on. Overall I would say this is an excellent GPS for the price and I highly recommend it!
- This has got to be the best device that I have ever purchased.....I travel extensively and I never leave without my friend GARMIN......Once you purchase one you will understand.....Nothing is worse than being in another State in a strange City and have no CLUE as to how to get to your destination.....I have never been lost since I got this unit....Also you do not have to worry about all of those pesky paper maps.....
You will be totally satisfied with this purchase.
Bernard
- This GPS is perfect for my needs. It is easy to navigate even if you are not very electronic savvy. I would recommend it.

5 comments about Navigon 2200T 3.5-Inch Portable GPS Navigator with Text-To-Speech and Free Traffic Alerts.
- The Navigon 2200T gives me what I need to navigate around anywhere I go. The 3.5" screen is plenty to see what is being displayed. I like the lane assistance and the street names announcements. The POI is limited to local area; however that is OK because if I am looking for restaurants, shops, gas or anything, I will need around where I am anyway. It works well and the directions it great. The traffic report capability is very handy and it is free.
It only has the 48 states in the US main land. Following instructions, charging the unit before using is recommended. Before using, reset the GPS by pressing on the reset button. The very first time it will take a little longer to acquire the signal, but after that, it is very quick, less than a minute, unless you are around tall buildings or high mountain area.
It works well for me and my needs and in my opinion it has all the necessary features a GPS requires.
- I had the 2200T in my cart and just before purchasing compared it to the price of the 7200T (same Amazon website). The difference was so small I jumped at the 7200T instead for the extra features including the larger screen and Bluetooth, among other things. Either one is a best bet. You can see reading some of the bad reviews of the newer Garmin Nuvis, which I looked at initially. The routing is much better on these newer Navigons. They corrected many of the minor problems from last year's models, and the
unit operates much quicker also. Navigon has been making in dash navigation systems since 1991, so they are not new in the industry.
- Like the other reviews, I like the design and its 3 D maps. I only have 1 problem with this unit. Its antenna is so poorly designed. It takes a long time to find the GPS signal. Everytime I turn it on, and try to use it, I have to wait 2-5 minutes to find its location. That is if I am not driving. If I am driving and then turn it on. It takes forever to find the GPS signal??? This is a software issue. Even with 1 problem, I will return it because it is unacceptable.
- I first of all chose this particular GPS becuase of it's stylish look; secondly because of the overall positive reviews that I read about this unit; and thirdly because of the price. Once I put it to use, I really love the projection and the voice instructions are crystal clear. I will however agree with previous reviews as to the time it takes for the signal to lockdown my location, but overall I give it two thumbs up!
- This is my second GPS. I started out with a very basic Mio Digiwalker 310x. The Mio had no bells & whistles, no frills, no text to speech, no traffic, older maps. But it got me from Point A to B.
I wish I could say the same for the Navigon 2200t. The biggest problem with this unit is the inconsistent times it takes to lock onto a GPS signal. In my test drives, sometimes it took mere seconds, yet sometimes it took much longer. Once it didn't lock on for an entire 35 minute car trip. What good is a GPS navigator if it can't be used consistently? When I'm lost, I won't have 35 minutes to spare.
There are other problems with this unit. The main one is the map display itself. I don't know whose bright idea it was to put white roads on a light gray background, but whoever it was should be let go. I don't mind a simple display. (Garmin's rainbow of colors looks too much like a videogame to me.) But on the 2200t I find myself squinting to discern the difference between the road and the ground. Night view is better, but not by much. Also, I've noticed some of the routing is not very good.
I'm giving this GPS two stars (and I'm being generous) because it does do some things right. "Reality view" is a great feature, and I have found it to be accurate where I've been able to use it. Also, the text-to-speech voice is clear and pronounces names correctly. And it does seem to have correct traffic data.
I never appreciated how great my simple Mio was. It does almost everything better than this unit. Better touchscreen, better window mount, but most importantly, it was RELIABLE. I cannot depend on my Navigon. I should have listened to the negative reviews regarding signal lock. Buyer beware.

5 comments about Garmin Etrex Venture HC GPS Receiver.
- Really liked the performance of this unit, but it quick working completely in less than a month. Very disappointed in the quality considering the reputation of Garmin!
- We bought this for our family's new hobby: geocaching. Works great! Easy one-hand operation makes it very convenient, and the readout is very clear and intuitive, so that even my children can use it. Looking around the menus on this thing, we are probably only using 10% of what it can do. We are not doing any intense hikes, so I'm not sure how the more advanced features might compare with other GPS's out there, but we're very pleased.
- Got this unit to start geocaching with my kids.
PROS are: It seems to be very accurate, screen is easily readable, color is good, seems well made and durable. The unit is also able to obtain a satellite when indoors near a window which was very surprising.
CONS are: no built in compass which makes it very difficult to get to the geocache when you get very close. If you stand still it will confuse you and point to a different direction. The unit only points toward the destination when you are moving. So when you get close to the cache you need to constantly walk back and forth to figure out where it is. If you stop walking the display will point toward screen-north and not the destination.
Also, the Garmin operating system was a little less than intuitive causing me to read the manual more than I would usually need to for other small electronics. After much searching the manual still does not tell you how to manually enter a waypoint if you have the coordinates. It makes mention of the possibility then fails to explain how. (By the way, you use the "Mark" feature and then edit the info to do this).
Despite the fairly major limitation of not having a compass we have still had success in finding our destinations. However if I had known about what trouble lack of a compass would bring I would not have bought it. My kids (9 and 6) are not able to find a geocache without the compass and get frustrated walking in circles when near the destination.
I can see a unit with a compass in our future.
- I upgraded to this from my old Etrex for better satellite lock, and I got it. I can sit in my cabin and pull 8 sats through the roof! No more looking for breaks in the trees so I can get my bearings. It's got a lot more goodies than my last Etrex, but I haven't even gotten around to using them yet. All I wanted is something that would acquire quickly and keep giving me data, no matter what was overhead. The Venture HC delivered it.
- It's a very good product, I would buy it again.
The only thing that I don't like is that it takes a lot of time to acquire the satellites. But it's ok anyways.

5 comments about Garmin nüvi 205W 4.3-Inch Widescreen Portable GPS Navigator.
- It's supposed to be faster than the previous line of products (thanks to a faster processor) but it doesn't feel that way. I had a Nüvi 350 (hated the flip up antenna though it seems it really helped with the reception) and a TomTom One (2d generation) and I don't remember them being much slower than the Nüvi 205W.
My other grip with it is that it will act-up when I am stopped (at a Stop sign or red light for instance). The screen shows the car making incoherent movements and this forces a route re-calculation. Everything goes back to normal when I resume the driving.
Further, it takes a pretty long time to acquire a lock on satellites signal It really pisses me off. My only device slower than this is my Nokia E71 cellphone (sucks at GPS).
Last, I would recommend the widescreen over the regular screen size to the ones who are hesitating/ wondering whether it's worth the extra money.
- For the money, this is the best GPS navigatoron the market. It is absolutly easy to program and operate. Directions are clear and undestandable. Places of special interest are loeaded nad ready to go. It even gets you around out here in Montana on very lonely roads and remote locations.
- This GPS works great. Tons of features for the price. Yes voice announcing of the road would be nice but it's also rather annoying. The GPS graphically displays each street as well as the next street that you turn on. So for me this GPS was fantastic. Love the feature of finding stores, gas stations, ... Only reason for not giving it 5 stars is that they did not include Canada and Alaska for the road database. I had to purchase that database separately and I felt that if they had North America roads then they should have had all of North America.
- I've never used a GPS unit before, but with a two-week driving trip to the UK coming up, I thought it would be a useful tool. I was wrong; it was an INDISPENSIBLE tool. Seriously, if I could give this thing 10 stars I would.
It saved my life on numerous occasions and lowered the stress level of driving in an unfamiliar country (on the left side of the road, with roundabouts instead of intersections, driving late at night and on rural roads!) to a minimum. We also purchased the UK map add-on, popped it in and we were ready to go. We changed it over to the British voice for fun and was a god-send.
Especially helpful was the ability to download locations and addresses directly from Google Maps into the Favorites folder. We did this each night as we planned the next day's journey. It allowed us to be spontaneous.
We ran into an issue with our rental car where the aux output failed and even though the Garmin was plugged in, it was not getting any charge. This, of course, was not the Garmin's fault but it left us kinda stuck until we could get the car fixed. But we simply turned the Garmin off when it would tell us there was a long stretch of driving (five or more miles) with no road changes and then turned it back on just before the change (using the trip meter) We also turned down the brightness. Each time it required the signal quickly with no effort and we were able to get over 8 hours out of the four hour battery charge. But once it was plugged in and getting a charge as it should, there were no issues. But it was good to know that in an emergency, with a little tweaking, you can get several more hours of use.
One time we ran into some emergency construction work in Cardiff and we were unable to turn where it was directing us. However, it recalculated quickly and we arrived at our destination only a few minutes later.
I especially liked how easily it found gas stations as we were in rural areas for the most part. We never lost a signal, although on occasion in a dense and close city like Edinburgh it took some time to acquire the signal when first switch on, probably because of the very tall buildings. But once acquired, it never went away.
The voice was easy to hear, we had no problems even in loud driving conditions (radio on, noisy road, rain). The screen was plenty bright, even in daytime. The touch screen was very easy to use and very easy to change. Having the volume right on the first screen was great because we didn't have to go hunting for it when we did want to turn it down.
It was easy to dismount, pop in my bag and take with us. Apparently, these little gems are stolen a lot in the UK, when we entered Stratford, there was actually a sign that said Welcome to Stratford, be sure to take your SatNav out of your car if you don't want to lose it!
Upon my return to the states, it's functioned perfectly with the US Maps.
I don't write that many Amazon reviews, but this product was so good and such a life saver that I really wanted to tell others. This particular model suited my needs perfectly and while I know there are fancier editions available, for my purposes, I didn't need Bluetooth, to pick up email, an MP3 player or anything else like that.
All I just needed something to get me from A to B in one piece with a minimum of stress. This did the trick and then some. Considering that without the Garmin we would STILL be wasting our vacation time arguing over maps and missed turns and trying to figure out the unfamiliar UK road system this little guy was worth twice the price I paid for it.
I love it and I'm going to buy a couple as Christmas presents.
- I am quite Satisfied with this GPS. It is pretty good with accuracy. But it sometimes hangs up or gives wrong directions in Cities.

- Once you have the USB plug(USB plug doesn't come with the update maps) and the update maps its easy to update your GPS.
- I have 2 units and it's.....lets just say really weak for lack of a better phrase that I can only use it to update one of them.
- Garmin Map Update of 2009 City Navigator North America NT
Shady Grove Lane in Kathleen Georgia is still miss-identified. The road that appears is a driveway off of Sanderfur Rd. The real Shady Grove Lane exits Sanderfur Rd. about 0.5mi. southeast of the shown location.
- No instructions with the cd. Upon downloading to Garmin, a menu appears and at that point there is no instruction as to which you should choose. After emailing Garmin a few times with this question, no response.
- If I pay for an annual update, I want it to be reasonably recent. There are completed road construction projects near my home and other places in in the Southeastern US that are not included in this update. For example, an interstate 40 bypass around Greensboro that was complete in February 2008 is not on the DVD. Also my computer has a hard time reading parts of the DVD - I am no tech expert, but I wonder if it should be a 2-disc set.
