3 comments about Garmin 010-10998-00 Foot Pod.
  1. The foot pod looks a little cumbersome, but works well. I have it paired to my wife's Forerunner 50.

  2. I have my Foot Pod paired with my Garmin Forerunner 305 and am very satisfied. The Foot Pod has a plastic bracket that fits under my shoe string, while the Foot Pod fits over my shoe string. It can be a little difficult to get the two pieces to click together, but when they do they form a secure arrangement. I followed the instructions in the Forerunner manual and paired the Foot Pod with the Forerunner on the first try. Once this is done it does not have to be repeated since the Forerunner automatically detects the Foot Pod from then on.

The Foot Pod measures my pace in strides per minute and also measures my distance traveled. I am a little disappointed that the Forerunner allows the distance measured by the Foot Pod to over ride the distance measured by the GPS in the Forerunner. I suspect the distance measured by the GPS is more accurate, but I can not find an option to force the GPS distance to be used while the Foot Pod is in use. Walking the same course results is a measured distance of 3.26 miles using the GPS and 3.30 miles using the Foot Pod, which I feel is good agreement. I did not have to follow the calibration instructions to achieve these results.

Overall I have found the Foot Pod a great addition to my exercise equipment, especially when I am inside and out of range of the GPS satelittes.

  3. I recently got a Forerunner 405 and love it. I wanted to work on my cadence, and realized I could do that with this product. Quite simply, I put it on my shoe and can see my cadence at all times, just like my heart rate and speed. I've found it to be a great training tool for my running.

I have not tried using this on a treadmill or anything like that. I exclusively use this for cadence, and if you've been wanting to work on that, this is a great way to do it.

5 comments about Garmin Suction Cup Mount for Nuvi 660 (010-10823-00).
  1. We lost the Garmin suction mount, and since you need it to attach the car charger to the unit, we couldn't do without it. The original unit has the suction cup part permanently attached to the charger adapter. With this new adapter, the suction cup part detaches from the adapter-plug part, making it easier to use in the car (we let the unit hang onto the dashboard ... the window mount makes the garmin difficult to use). I am very happy with this adapter.

  2. I purchased the Suction Cup Mount for the Nuvi 660. It was exactly what I expected. I had one with my original purchase but in the vehicle to vehicle transfer it was misplaced. I love my Nuvi, but I dislike the fact that the screen carrying case does not have a pouch for the Suction Cup and mount. I also think the arm "pops out" to easily even when adjusting angles on the window and then is hard to re attach while it is on the window.

I received the Dashboard "bean Bag system as a gift and almost always use that now.

  3. I bought a Garmin suction cup mount. There were no mention it would not come in a Garmin hard card plastic packaging. Instead, it came in some plastic bag. The item is truly new and I got what I wanted. I didn't got the Garmin packaging. It would anyway have ended be recycled and I saved some money.

  4. Garmin has changed the mount type so that you must attach the specially fitted (non industry standard plug-end) car charger in to the mount itself rather than the unit. While it makes it easy to remove the GPS itself it is more cumbersome to plug in and out which is necessary if you want to remove the mount when parking in a public. Suggest pairing this with an easily removable dash pad rather than attaching to your windshield. Would like to see Garmin improve the overall quality of their mounts to that of TomTom.

  5. mount is fine but the rubber of the suction cup wears out a little fast

5 comments about Garmin Hard Carrying Case for Colorado Handheld GPS Units.
  1. This case does just what it should, and does it well. My only caution -- be sure you need and will use it. I ordered it when I ordered the Garmin. The Garmin came with a very stout and secure carabiner clip on. The Garmin itself is sturdy, and I just haven't felt the need for this semi-hard case. If I had it to do over again, I probably wouldn't get it. Again, that's not because it's not a very good case; it's only because I don't find myself needing or using it.

  2. I figured after the money spent on the Colorado from Garmin, they would have had a sweet hard case for this. I guess being an Otterbox user, I was expecting more. It was a hard case, but seemed cheaply made.

  3. Other than acting as a hard case to prevent bumps to your GPS, this case offers no additional protection to a very expensive investment. I expected the case to seal around the edges, but it does not (the only thing keeping the case closed is that little clip in the picture... I mistakingly thought it also zipped around the edges). So there's nothing preventing dirt, water, etc, from going right into the sides of the case. I use my GPS for fieldwork, and this case definitely wouldn't cut it. I returned mine, and certainly would not recommend this case to anyone.

  4. I like this item, it provides good protection from bumping your gps into things. I would really like it to be air tight to keep sand out, it has a gap in the seem that will let in dirt and water. Not good for Iraq.

  5. Very good carrying case for the Colorado GPS. It gives good protection for the unit and is easy to use. My only complaint is size. It will hold only the unit and has no space for the carabiner that comes with the Colorado. It would be nice to have a slot or two to store regional microSD cards, too. Minor points so I still recommend the case.

5 comments about Garmin Automotive Mount for Nuvi 660 (010-10823-02).
  1. I cannot rate this item because I never received it. When tracking it thru Amazon it showed that USPS had delivered the item. Since, I never saw the item Amazon immediately refunded my money.

  2. The temporary adhesive that comes with this unit is MUCH too weak to hold the Nuvi 660. The mount starts giving way almost immediately. I can't understand how Garmin can sell this for the Nuvi 660.

I want to be able to move the mount between vehicles, so I can't use the permanent adhesive. I am returning the mount.

  3. Just what I needed after I lost the cradle for my Garmin. This was a great price for this item, delivery was fast.

  4. We used the Nuvi 660 driving throughout northern Arizona in the summer of 2008.

The provided suction cup mount was abismal, failing to stay put during most of our 8 day SUV trip. I'd highly recommend the dash-based mounting kit.

As far as directions went, we generally found it reliable, with caution.

We did experience at least 3 wrong directional turns on our trip, however. We also found it prone to mis-directions anytime we deviated from the path it plotted. "Recalculating, sometimes meant: "Uh Oh!"

    Randy Hoff

  5. It does not mount anywhere in the car very safely, because nothing is flat. I mounted it on the re-view mirror, not the safest place but I sure could see it all the time.

5 comments about Gilsson UBM Portable Car Non-Skid Friction Beanbag Dashboard Mount.
  1. Good product, god price, fast delivery. I just wish it was not so bulky. It would be easier to pack in the glove compartment.

  2. I had the greatest hopes for this product and I wasn't disappointed! It really defies the laws of physics and I'm still amazed that it works. I use it mainly for my Magellan GPS and now I can't imagine being without it. No more struggling to mount the GPS on my windshield and having it drop off 5 minutes into the trip. And I don't have to fight getting it off the windshield when I leave my car. I just toss the whole thing into my trunk after a trip and I'm done. Great little device. I recommend it highly to anyone with a GPS.

  3. This is my second attempt at getting a non-skid beanbag friction dashboard mount (or NoSkiBeFriDashMo as we call them in the GPS scene) that plays nice with my TomTom 920's stubby little suction-cup mount. The Bracketron UFM-100BL Nav-Mat GPS Friction Dash Pad does NOT work with the TomTom 920 (or any of the 700s or 900s, I assume) because the little arm on the TomTom's suction cup is so short, the GPS can't get over the big fat beanbag ring around the Bracketron mat. This means the GPS winds up angled almost straight-up, and you can't see the screen. Bogus!

But the Gilsson NoSkiBeFriDashMo, which I'm reviewing here, is excellent. The mounting surface (where you attach the suction cup) lies more or less flat with the rest of the pad, so I was actually able to see my TomTom's screen.

In order to test the Gilsson's NoSkiBeFriDashMo, I did some donuts in old man Cruthers's front yard, and I wasn't able to get it to budge. Glisson really puts the "Non-Skid Friction Beanbag" in Non-Skid Friction Beanbag Dashboard Mount!

It is a little big - about 7" by 7", so if you're driving an embarrassing car like a Miata you're going to be even more embarrassed when you can't put the pad in your microscopic glovebox. I suggest hiding it under the seat.

Finally, the bottom of the Gilsson, where the friction lives, feels really weird. I highly recommend touching it.

  4. Best thing I have bought in a long time. Works great and does what it supposed to at a very reasonable price.

  5. There's no question that this product works exactly as advertised. The price is reasonable (though, I was quite surprised at the amount of S&H charges). I have a Magellan Maestro 5310 that I use in my SUV and was looking for something that I wouldn't have to continually attach and remove from my windshield. The non-skid material works great. It's simple to place on the dashboard and just as easy to store away when not needed. When not in use, I simply sit the mount on the floor behind the front passenger seat. And no suction cup marks left on the windshield!

The only problem I had - and this is more personal preference than a problem with the product - is that when the Magellan GPS (w/swivel mount/suction cup) is attached to the bean-bag dashboard mount, the GPS sits up very, very, high. It more than clears the upper edge of the bean-bag portion of the dashboard mount (and, since the power cord plugs into the side of the GPS, too little clearance was never a concern). However, with the way the Magellan swivel mount adjusts, it's not possible to angle the arm down and then angle the GPS back up so that it's both viewable and flush with the beanbag at the same time. Again, that's no complaint with this product - just the combination of this product with the Magellan swivel mount is not practical. (You get the feeling that every car you pass - or that passes you - can see your GPS just as well as you can.) Not wanting to spend more money on a suitable swivel mount, I decided to try an alternative.

With an SUV that has so many ledges and angles on the dashboard, I decided to use velcro strips instead - color-matched to the dark gray dashboard, of course. I simply (cut them to form and) attach one velcro strip to the underside of the GPS and another to the backside of the unit. Then attach the opposite velcro strips to the corresponding desired portions of the dashboard. Ouila!! A semi-permanent attachment, at the same level as all the other dashboard gauges, and not within eyeshot of any other vehicles. Easy to remove, easy to replace, and surprisingly simple. It works.

5 comments about Garmin Forerunner 201 Wrist-Mounted GPS Fitness Computer.
  1. This product is great! It makes it easy to know exactly how fast and how far I'm running as I train. I'm following a training schedule, which is very specific about the distances and pace I'm supposed to run, and this tool makes it very easy. I'm glad I purchased the one with the rechargeable battery. The batteries only last a few days, so it's convenient to just be able to plug it in and recharge it.

  2. I went through three of these units--one was replaced after about 3 hours on the phone with technical assistance. That one broke shortly after warantee. On a Sunday day condensation appeared beneath the screen and hours later the screen went dead. The new one suffered the the same fate after a rainy day. They're supposed to be waterproof to 10m. A third was gifted to me and now that I'm two months past warantee it won't charge. In all don't bother.

  3. I love this watch. It has improved my running so much. I work harder to beat my time but I love it. I would never have thought I would work so hard to keep my pace. IT is excellent. And, battery life is great too.

  4. I am absolutely addicted to my Forerunner 201. After a year or so, the contacts became worn off, so it was difficult to charge. I owned mine for almost two years and it has died completely on me. I miss it.

  5. Worked well in wide open spaces but easily lost GPS signal if running on trails or in city. Also, battery stopped charging after 11 months. Would've expected more longevity but not a bad product for someone trying a GPS for the first time.

  1. I love my Garmin Nuvi 760 and I travel often so I wanted a bag to hold the Garmin Nuvi, the friction mount (bean bag like mount), the wires and the suction mount. This bag could not even store the Nuvi without issue and the wires wouldn't fit either. Why Garmin does not offer a bundle package of carrying bag and case is beyond me. If you have a small unit, this bag may be ok for you to store your GPS only. If you have a 4.3 inch screen GPS and want to pack your wires and accessories up too, don't waste your money on this tiny bag!

  2. Good product. Its size tucks easily in to other bags, under the seat, and is easy to carry with me as needed. It could be slightly larger to accommodate the windshield mount in addition to the dashboard mount. A separate pocket inside to carry the instruction manual would be helpful. I would buy again.

  3. This is a so-so product (does not match current photo). SMALL and not much room for the price. This should be $10 -$15 and no more; you'd be better off with an alternate item!!!

  4. Good case for you Garmin GPS. Well built and has pockets for accessories. Not a LARGE case, so be forewarned.

  5. The bag is too small - GPS hardly fits there and any mount and anything else will not fit

  1. This is the EXACT SAME suction cup model that came with my Garmin Nuvi 660. Delivery was faster AND cheaper through Amazon versus dealing directly though Garmin. Very pleased!

  2. Easy to operate, fits well. Initially I was afraid if it work. No regrets.

  3. Bought two of these for the price of one from Garmin directly -- arrived in 3 days with super saver shipping option. Couldn't have asked for a better service!

  1. If you want to keep all the parts together and available at a moments notice, this case will do the job. Small enough to take with you and large enough to locate easily, this part-specific case will store your GPS and all accessories until you need them. Other cases/containers will do the same but this one has a little flair to it. Another Garmin must have.

  2. I have the forerunner 405, heart rate monitor, and foot pod. I was hoping the case would be large enough to carry these along with my charger. They all fit, but it is very cramped. The case isn't quite long enough for the heart rate monitor, so it needs to be folded a bit to fit it in. On the positive side, the case is very solid and well made.

  3. Great carrying case. Perfect for holding the Forerunner, charger, and USB cable. I just had to replace my Forerunner because I came home one day and found it in a thousand pieces on the floor. This time I purchased the case to go with it and the case seems to be perfect for puppy protection. High quality and very durable.

  4. Definitely keeps it in one place. I carry one small bag to the gym and it's easy to grab it all without hunting around for all the pieces.

  5. The Garmen GPS carrying case has worked very well for me. I use my watch when I run, which is 3-5 days p/week. I also run with an I-pod nano. The Garmen case carries both (as well as a cell phone and blue-tooth device) with the two halves of the case divided into mesh sections which keeps the items separated and helps them not to bump into each other which sometimes causes the I-pod or the Garmen GPS watch to inadvertantly switch on, wasting valuable battery life.

The vents on the top help the Garmen GPS device to dry quickly after a long run in the sun. The case looks good and is strong yet light weight.

It was a worthwhile purchase for me.
